Thread PL: 31,080 Heavyweights ON: 7,770 Key Plain White=Action Regular Green=Spoken Word Italic Green=ThoughtsExploration. It was the way that humans learned about their world. They'd discovered new places, new animals, landmarks never seen by the human eye. Some would embrace these different cultures, but others would seek to conquer them.
Being part of a race known for conquering planets, the battle genius strategist Carva was all up for exploring this planet that he at one time called home. Now, he was completely healed from his battle with Mitsuba. He'd addressed a subject with Aphradite not long ago.
The day he stood at the very bottom of the tower, the weather was fair. It was about midday and the sun smiled brightly upon the world below. The birds were singing, a light breeze rustled through the trees, and here we had Carva standing below the lookout like a cat eyeing a bird stuck in a tree.
His shoulders felt extra heavy today, having thought about this task for a few days. He craned his neck as he looked up...and up and up and up. He could vaguely make out the shape of a structure. Carva shook his head, becoming lost in thought momentarily. "So these Earthlings have landmarks. I figured as much, but I had no idea they were so beautiful. That's a long damned climb though...and...who knows what I'll find at the top? The curiosity is killing me, but I wonder if this will even be worth it?"
He looked down at the moist green grass at his feet, raising a hand to his chiseled chin as he shook his head. He scratched his chin. "Tch...what self respecting warrior climbs rather than flies? It would be so much easier to just fly up there and find out what is up there...but...Aphradite said there was a chance to become more powerful, but only warriors who climb the tower can claim the power. Hrmf..."
Steel reserve. Most Saiya-Jin warriors had it, and Carva was no different. Though immature, the warrior had prided himself on being bull-headed and in possession of a never say die attitude. This was apparent in every battle he'd been involved in.
He stepped forward toward the imposing structure which jutted up from the ground like some obscene blade, seemingly staring down at the Saiya-jin elite. He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. "Alright...this is what it is, yes? Climb this monster and claim my prize...hrmf..." he clenched fist in front of himself, baring his teeth. "...so be it! This power will be mine! I will persevere!"
With what was perhaps an impossible mission in mind, Carva would lift a foot and place it into the first wedge of the tower. His left foot would set itself into the groove, and his right arm would move above his head, hand setting into another groove. He swallowed self doubt and began to pull his weight upward, fighting both his weight and that of his training weights.
It wouldn't be long before Carva would feel that he was making progress, thinking that hours had past. It was, after all, a hellish climb. But as he looked down he would notice that he'd not been very far at all. "Shite...this isn't so easy, is it? I'd known this would be difficult and thought I was making progress...but I suppose I was wrong...time to step it up a bit."
Step it up he would, pulling and pushing himself up the straight climb, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. Thirty minutes of climbing later, he'd grunt with each pull. He was getting sore. This Saiya-jin would bite his lip and press on, the midday sun pounding him like a boxer pounding the bag at the gym.
He growled low and panted, feeling the burn in his muscles. He knew this was a crazy endeavour, but having been beaten by that child he knew he needed to become stronger. "Dammit body, don't quit on me...it's only a few more miles...come on! Push! Push!"
He took in a deep breath and forced himself to climb, his hands beginning to bleed as they hit a few jagged edges. His eyes began to burn from sweat as it poured down his face, his hands stung from hundreds of tiny abrasions.
Pain. Pain was a four letter words, just like fear. They were both just that to him. Words created by mankind. Not real concepts.
Hours later, he clung to the tower like a cat climbing a tree. He knew that if he fell, he would be able to catch himself by flying...but deep down, his pride simply wouldn't allow it. Aphra's words rung in his head as he fought back the fatigue, the darkness already falling over the land.
"Grrrr...can't let everyone who doubted me be right. I have to do this. If I do not, what good am I as a Saiya-jin? If I give up, I'm better off dead!"
He exhaled sharply, pain shooting up through his body as he pushed himself further up the tower. He could barely hold his eyes open as he moved, but the fire inside him continued to burn brightly. As he spied a strange ladder leading up a dome, his curiosity heightened further. "What the hell?"
To say the transition was an easy one would be a bold faced lie. He struggled to turn himself around, bloody fingertips barely able to reach the ladder..."Ahhhh....come on Carva...you can...you can do this..."
With a grunt he hopped onto the ladder, legs swinging out from under him. Trembling, he'd hang there for a moment. With each movement, excruciating pain would shoot through his body but he'd climb and flip around...seven more rungs...then he'd be inside the structure...
One...two...he'd cough a bit, his vision blurring from the fatigue and pain clawing at him. Three four...he'd steel himself...four....five...six...one more to go...
He grasped the very last rung with a gasp, and pull his upper body onto the stone floor of the pinnacle of the tower. His legs would be next and he'd roar as he pulled himself onto the tower, falling onto his back...panting...his stomach growling massively like an angry lion...
How many days had it really been? He laid there, until he heard footsteps...and would call out weakly..."Who....who is there? Hello?"
[Thread Power Level: 132,975] [Ki Suppression On. PL: 5] [Using House Bonus]
Galen was tending to his usual chores when he sensed a power level approaching the tower. ”Uhn?” he thought to himself, focusing in order to better measure his capability. His power wasn’t very huge, it compared to Galen’s own when he was still living in his home village of Goddodin which left him quite nostalgic for a while. ”I don’t sense malice in this one… So, let’s see if he can climb the Tower. T has been a while since someone visited me here out of the blue, anyway.” he said, giggling in excitement. Galen wasn’t wearing his sword and, instead, it was leaning on a closet, near to the futon he had for a bed. The tower had plenty of stuff, but it was quite simple.
After hours, the person finally managed to reach the Tower and that made Galen get up from his chair and walk near the end of the ladder. The man, to his surprise, was a saiyan and he seemed rather exhausted. Galen, on the other hand, didn’t look like much: he looked like a rather skinny human male, with a feeble power level and a way too friendly smile on his face. ”Hello there! I’m… Master Galen, the Keeper of Korin’s Tower and protector of this land known as Korin’s Holy Grounds.” he said, bowing a bit while introducing himself; he wasn’t quite used to this whole “Master Galen” stuff yet, but Master Korin had scolded him in the past for not using the title, saying he was belittling the tower’s importance or something like that.
”And who are you, young man?” Galen asked. The human didn’t look old at all, most people would think that Galen was still eighteen or so, but in truth he was already twenty five. In any case, it was rather odd he called the much older looking Carva a “young man”, but he was a peculiar one anyway.
He lie there for a moment, panting, body racked with fatigue and pain. It would have been remarkable to Carva that he himself had climbed the massive tower if the room wasn't spinning at the moment. He would roll over onto his stomach and place a hand on each side, tail swaying behind him as he pushed his torso up. He'd pull one leg up at a time before pushing himself to his feet. He studied the younger human for a moment, tail sliding around his waist and thought to himself. "This young Earthling is the Tower keeper? He doesn't seem like much, but best not underestimate him. This world's children are more than meets the eye, plus I need his help if he truly is the keeper."
In realization of the position he himself was in, he would treat the young man with respect. Not only out of respect for his position, but he didn't perceive the boy as a threat. He would gently bow at the waist and greet the tower keeper. "Master Galen, it is a pleasure to meet you. I have heard great things about this tower and it's keepers but allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sir Carva, Saiya-jin Elite."
That was a sufficient greeting. He came here to receive what he thought was a blessing of power, unaware of any difference to the legend. He'd need to play this cool and professionally in order to be successful in his mission. He had to let the boy know that he meant no harm, more so he'd come seeking help. But...his stomach would growl quite noticeably and he'd politely apologize. "...*grrrrr*...Ugh...I apologize, Master Galen. I've not eaten since I started climbing this tower and I am not sure how long I've been climbing. I lost track of time..."
He made the last comment hoping that Galen would maybe have some sort of food and maybe know somehow how long he'd been climbing. Carva wasn't sure about anything at this moment.
Galen giggled a bit when he noticed Carva was studying him. ”When comparing to a strong looking saiyan, I guess I don’t look like much.” he thought to himself, with his kind smile on his face, unshaken. Still, to his surprise, the saiyan bowed to him and was quite polite, even going as far as to call him Master, which made him chuckle a bit in embarrassment. ”It’s even more weird when people actually call me Master…” he thought to himself, but he knew he had to get used to it; it was part of the job.
His name was Carva and he was a Saiyan Elite. It was funny how they categorized themselves into low, middle and elite class, and Galen didn’t even know why they had to do that, but that wasn’t something exclusive to saiyans anyway; some humans also liked to diminish people based on their birth and social background and Galen thought it was something quite sad. Galen kept his gentle and kind smile on his face and made a quick acknowledgeable nod when he introduced himself. ”Nice to meet you, Elite Saiyan Carva.” he said, but before he could say anything else, Carva’s stomach grumbled quite a lot and it was something very funny.
Galen couldn’t hold himself and started laughing loud. ”Hahahaha!” and Carva apologized and he shook his head, as if he was telling him that there was no need to apologize. ”It’s quite a journey, to climb this tower. But luckily for you, I’ve sensed you climbing and I prepared something. So… Come join me by the fire!” he said as he walked towards the ladder Carva climbed from, going down and towards a cooking pot in the center of it. Galen opened it and there was a large piece of cooked meet, which he put on a plate and offered Carva. ”Help yourself, Carva. I’m alright. I had my breakfast while you climbed the tower.” he said in a gentle tone, as he sit next to the cooking pot and waited the saiyan to eat to his heart’s contempt.
When Carva saw Galen, it wasn't easy at first to take the kid seriously. He expected the Guardian to be some huge warrior...probably covered in battle scars and carrying swords. But here he was now, standing in front of what appeared to be a very well spoken, nice young man. This, as you could imagine, was a high contrast to what Carva was used to. But one thing fighting Mitsuba had done was not to humble him but make him wiser. He'd not underestimate anyone. He'd study them. He'd grown wiser in a matter of weeks.
As Galen placed the food before the hungry Saiya-jin, his dark eyes became as large as saucers! Right now, he was greeted with a huge pile of bacon, about five slices of toast, and an indeterminate amount of scrambled eggs. His eyes went to the food and back to Galen. "This...this is for me? I...this is incredible! Where did you even find this so high up here?!"
He studied Galen a bit more, figuring that perhaps the young man had servants to handle such things. Surely the tower keeper wouldn't do such menial tasks himself? As he dug in, he forgot himself, bacon crunching between his sharpened teeth, fork clinking the plate before him. Of course he'd wash it down with a huge gulp of orange juice. He was making a pig of himself, and like most Saiya-jins, he didn't care.
He did have a few questions for Galen, and between bites he'd ask the. "So what does the keeper..." he munched on toast, crumbs flying through the air. He was a saiya-jin, not known for table manners. "...do exactly? I've heard legends that warriors have climbed this tower..." he gulped his orange juice. "...better for it?"
He didn't wish to press on too much, as it may anger the young tower keeper. But he needed to find a way to supplement his power before he met with the leader of the Empire. He needed to prove his worth.

"You claim to know the definition of "pain". Allow me to show you it's true meaning!"- Carva
Galen couldn’t help but to chuckle a bit more when Carva asked him where he found all the food. The human shrugged a bit before answering. ”Well, I’m a farmer’s son and I learned with my parents how to tend to the soil and harvest its goods. I hunt from time to time too, though, lately, the people of the Karinga Tribe offer quite a lot of food.” he sighed, feeling slightly embarrassed. ”I refuse most of it though, since I like to get them on my own merit, but it kind of hurts their feelings, so I end up taking some too, and they are pretty good with both the vegetables and the hunted meat, that I can’t deny! Hehehe!” and truly it was a blessing to be in such a good relationship with the native folk of the Korin’s Holy Grounds; they now looked up to Galen as their protector and spiritual guide and, although that was quite a big responsibility, the human embraced it wholeheartedly.
The saiyan began eating with quite some passion and Galen was glad he was actually enjoying the food. That or he was just starving to death after the climb. Galen remembered about the time he climbed the tower himself and just how exhausted he was back then and that made him giggle quite a bit. ”Feels like a lifetime ago already…” he thought to himself, daydreaming a bit. He was brought back to Earth, though, when Carva asked him what was the true job of the Tower Keeper. Galen stared at him with curious eyes and then, with a gentle smile, he began explaining.
”Well, that’s an interesting question. My main job is to act as a middleman, guarding this portion of the tower. Up above, like… Another whole tower climb, only a much harder one, is the Timeless Lookout, the place where the God of this planet lives. I’m one of his guardians and I’m here to put everyone looking to reach him through a trial, to see if they are dim worthy.” he said, chuckling a bit, as it would probably lead Carva to feel something with the idea of having another hard climb. ”Other than that, I overlook this whole forest land known as the Korin’s Holy Grounds and, as I said before, I’m the spiritual guide of the Karinga Tribe, so it’s also my job to assist them in any way I can.” he said, pausing a bit. ”Last but not least, I’m the only one alive capable of cultivating the senzu beans, magical seeds capable of healing any injure, even lost limbs and deadly injuries.” he said, pausing to let Carva process all he had said.
This human was extremely forth coming with information, considering Carva's obvious species. Though to be fair, the Saiya-jin was acting in stark contrast to the way he normally would. Strangely enough, this human had shown Carva more kindness than any other had ever shown him. He would lean back in his chair and grunt, holding his stomach as he burped quite loudly. There was no "excuse me" uttered, as Carva didn't feel he owed those things to anyone. But he would have the etiquette to wipe the food from his mouth, listening to the young man as he spoke. He arched a fine, black brow. "Karinga Tribe?" He asked, his thoughts moving back to the village of monks he'd slaughtered on his arrival. He wondered. "Tell me, is this tribe a tribe of men with bald heads? Wore orange robes?" He didn't want to admit that he'd killed those men. He felt no remorse for it. It was a different time. Rather he had a desire to better himself, as he felt a sense of honor would make him a better warrior. "Either way, they sound quite kind. Worshipping you as a God. You don't seem like the type to accept that, Master Galen." The Saiya-jin chuckled.
So in all of his explaining, Galen had let the Saiya-jin know that he had no special powers. No way to unlock his hidden potential, no desire for war though. He'd be slightly dissappointed, crestfallen even. He stared at Galen for a long moment. Sometimes, silence could be deafening. It could speak louder than words, and most times, these words were nightmarish in Carva's case. But as sad as it made him that Galen couldn't supplement his power...as angry as that made him...he exhaled deeply. "Ah. I had heard that those who climb this tower could claim a great power. It appears my sources were incorrect. But, Master Galen...your senzu beans sound very useful. How long do they take to grow? Do they take a lot of care? You seem quite patient..." he laughed. "...if it requires patience, I myself would certainly fail!"
The Saiya-jin guffawed, large fist shaking the table. He laughed at his own joke, at his own expense. But his curiosity had now been turned toward these magical beans. After all, who knew what benefits they would have in a battle? For a warrior of his caliber, they could be quite beneficial.

"You claim to know the definition of "pain". Allow me to show you it's true meaning!"- Carva
Galen was quite curious when Carva asked him if they were the bald men with orange clothes, not because they weren’t anything like the Karinga Tribe, but because Galen knew the man Carva was describing: they were the monks of the Orin Temple, the ones responsible for Galen’s introduction to the world of martial arts and to the whole concept of ki energy and its use. ”No, that would be the monks of the Orin Temple, but they live quite far from here… They are actually on the extreme East of the continent. Very close to where I was born, in fact.” he said in a casual and polite tone, still, something was bugging him quite a lot. ”How does he know them anyway?” he thought to himself, but before he could ask, Carva mentioned that they seemed to worship him like a god, to which he frenetically waved his hand and shook his hand in denial.
”No! No, no! Far from that! I’m no God! Hahaha! Not even close! Nor I want to be! Hahahaha! I’m just a caring friend. That’s how I prefer to see it.” Galen was a very humble guy, and to think that he was being compared to a god was something quite uncomfortable. Then, Carva said that he heard that people could acquire a great power by climbing the tower and that made him chuckle a bit, and then he proceed to talk about the senzu beans. This guy surely knew his handful of things, and he obviously wanted to learn more, and Galen could relate to that. ”Alright, calm down and I will try to explain things…” he said, pausing for a bit.
”First, you obviously grow strong by coming here if you climb the tower! That’s quite a lot of effort and, with that heavy armor of yours, it should be a hell of a task! But there are ways to further increase your power with this trial, but it’s something extremely risk. By risk I mean, it will kill anyone who doesn’t have a pure heart. I wouldn’t recommend the risk, unless you are quite sure of where your heart stands. But if you are willing to try, then you will have to continue climbing and ask for Kami’s judgment.” he explained the first part. ”As for the senzu beans, they are quite a lot of work to cultivate! They take a lot of time and dedication and even with that I can only produce a few of them at a time. So they are quite rare.” he admitted, shrugging a bit; he truly wished he could produce more, but things weren’t always like we wanted them to be.
”And yes, I’m quite patient. Like I said, my parents were farmers, so… It’s just like homework to me! Hehehe! But hey, there’s something I want to ask you…” he paused briefly, keeping the gentle smile on his face. ”How do you know the bald man in yellow? And how are they doing? They were old friends of mine, the Orin monks. I would be happy if you could share this information with me.” Galen wasn’t a slick person, and even though he was curious about them, he decided to reveal his relationship with them to the saiyan.
He listened to the Tower Keeper as Galen spoke, his ears perking to take in all of the knowledge. He'd mentioned the Orin Temple monks, the very same ones that Carva had thought he'd met. But one thing that Galen had said...it differed from the men Carva had seen. The men Carva had seen were wearing distinctly orange robes. They couldn't have been the same, could they? His expression would become noticeably thoughtful as he sat there, putting together the puzzle pieces in his mind.
Carva slowly pushed his chair up and exhaled deeply, moving over to the edge of the lookout. Placing two hands on the rail, he would look down at the world below. The animals, the people...they were as insects to him all the day down there. The waves of green would sway slightly in the wind. It was a peaceful and beautiful day, something Carva wasn't used to. His gaze looked upwards, toward what he thought was the edge of a the lookout of which Galen spoke.
So what would his answer be? Would he tell Galen that he'd murdered those men in cold blood? It could be very detrimental to his quest for power. He could only assume that news from the surface rarely reached this tower, especially with as far away as that temple was. He resolved himself to do whatever he could to preserve the integrity of his mission.
Carva turned, black hair flowing amongst the light breeze. After a moment, he'd smile slightly and answer. "They are doing quite alright. When I first came here to Earth, they welcomed me with open arms, making sure I had nothing to want for. Quite the welcoming party, to be honest." "To be honest". He wasn't being honest, but he was more maintaining diplomacy. To him, this was a young boy with a good heart who would likely not need to get any undue stress. Besides...he needed his mind on those magical beans. He had no pure heart, but if he could procure a bean then that would have an advantage in the future.
He walked back over to the table and sat back down. "Last I left them, they were fine. But that was one night, so there is no telling what happened between then and now."
The Saiya-jin was slick, that much was for sure. He had goals and he knew how to attain them. Yes, lying had it's disadvantages as well. But a soldier does what a soldier must to win. Come to think of it, having eaten, Carva did feel a bit stronger from the climb. But as Galen explained that only the pure hearted could survive further training, his expression darkened.
"Master Galen..." his tone became very serious, as if a sinner confessing to a priest. But this would be something that he would be perfectly honest about. "...you may have guessed that I am not exactly what one would call "pure hearted". Quite the contrary to be perfectly honest. Galen, I've killed men. I've destroyed them, in the name of war. And this "game" that we call "war" is a deadly one. You should know that as seen by this armor I wear."
He indicated his black battle armor with the silver trim. The very same armor with the weights sewn into it. He'd point to a few nicks and cracks in the armor, and hold his arm out to point to a large burn wound going down his left arm. "War is hell, kid. It's a Hell I have thrived in since I was six years old when my Uncle took me from my parents. He trained me to become a "true saiyan" as he called it. He beat me mercilessly to toughen me up, didn't feed me for days...no water. No...sleep." he growled a bit. "And he taught me that it is in our nature to Kill and destroy."
Carva leaned and looked Galen in the eyes. "I couldn't take much more. I needed to be out on my own, because he just had me kill for the sake of killing. I was young and knew no different..." he shook his head. "....so one day, I killed him in a rage. I'd been beaten, starved, sleep deprived. I felt like a Pitbull...so I acted like one and tore him to shreds."
This was the first time Carva had ever confessed this to anyone, and you could almost see a tear forming in his eyes. The traumatizing childhood had been quite a painful subject for the maturing Saiya-Jin warrior. Galen would see it if he looked closely enough...he could tell the dark past had affected the warrior.
Carva went on to explain. "Rubega, my Uncle...he killed my mother and father in front of me. To say that didn't affect me would be a lie. But when I came here, I ended up fighting a young girl by the name of Mitsuba, a hybrid like myself." He actually cracked a smile. "I was winning...at first. But then, her hair turned golden and she kicked my ass. But in the end...it stopped me from wanting to simply kill. I want to be a true warrior...fight for the thrill. Be powerful for a purpose. What that purpose is, I am not sure."
The Saiya-jin's story had ended there, and there would surely be an awkward silence. He would stand up from his chair once more and turn, heading toward the edge of the lookout before looking back at Galen. "I mean you no harm, Galen. You've shown me nothing but kindness and respect, but I will understand if you ask me to leave. My heart is stained with blood, and unpure. So there is no way I can survive the next level of training, regrettably."
This would be the only remorse shown by the Saiya-jin who was set in his nature, for the most part. He half waited for Galen's response and half got ready to leave.
Galen was glad when he said that the Orin Monks were doing fine, he was relieved really as he nourished quite fond memories of his time in their temple, while training very hard into learning to harness the power of his own ki energy. It was a good time in the distance past and maybe, whenever he found the time to do so, he should pay them a visit and check on them himself, but for now it would suffice to know they were doing alright. ”That’s very good to hear, Carva, I’m glad for that, thank you for sharing.” he said in a kind and grateful tone, giggling a bit.
Then, Carva started saying he wasn’t quite pure and that he had killed people. Galen’s expression became more serious, focused on what the saiyan was telling him about war being hell. Galen knew that quite well and, although he hadn’t been into an actual all-out war, he had been present when his village was butchered and when Komatsu turned into a Golden Ape and destroyed the citadel. Those experiences were good enough to show him just how bloody and vile war was and that just further motivated him to work hard and become a protector of his beloved planet. It was funny though, that he called Galen a kid, and he took a mental note of that, but chose to remain silent as he continued to speak, informing he had been in war ever since he was but a child. It was a sad life, really, and Galen could definitely feel empathy towards the saiyan.
”I understand your feelings, Carva. I have seen my share of chaos and death in this life. I may not look like it, but I’m not a kid anymore. I’m twenty five years old, so… I’ve been around for a while. But we are not what people make of us, we are what we choose to be and we can always choose to change, to become better, to polish ourselves.” he said, with a subtle and caring smile on his face now. ”Seems like this girl was a super saiyan. I’ve seen some of those. They are amazingly powerful and I’m happy it taught you something, but you should never stop learning. Look for yourself, try and find your own heart. Because when you do, you will have it for yourself and your true personality will flourish.” he added.
Although Carva was right: he would definitely die if he drank the Holy Water, Galen held no ill-will towards him and then he shook his head. ”I don’t want you to leave, you are free to stay if you wish. I’m not here to judge people, but to help them and guide those who want my help to move towards the light. But that’s a choice I’m not to impose on anyone. If you want, I can help you, if you still aren’t sure, then I suggest you walk across the world and try to find your answer. Only you can do it for yourself. No one else can.” and there he was, being as kind and gentle as he always were, always willing to help people and never pushing his own beliefs and ideals onto others who weren’t ready for them.
What was this? It had caught the Saiya-jin by surprise, though this entire encounter had caught him off guard. Carva? He wasn't used to such a reaction, especially from the inhabitants of this world. The Saiya-jin shook his head as Galen's caring tone hadn't changed one bit, even as the warrior had told him of his horrible actions. Deep down, did Carva WANT that combative reaction? He looked down at the stone floor beneath his weighted combat boots. His thoughts would then wander back to his father, who was...like Galen.
His father had allowed Rubega into his home. Treated him as family, because he was. Fed him. Clothed him. Trained with him, made him better. But his mother and father, they always were mind hearted people. They helped a lot of people from what Carva could remember, but this one turned out a bit different. Rubega's plans would soon come to fruition, and the moment he had healed, he would murder the Saiya-jin's parents before his eyes. Just as he'd told Galen.
He elaborated. "Master Galen, your kindness...it surprises me. Also...I had no idea that you were older than me. Is that too a perk of being the Tower Keeper? Eternal Youth? But..." he looked at Galen, going to to explain his own situation a bit more. This was the first time he'd ever really talked to anyone. "...my parents showed this same kindness to my Uncle before his betrayal. As you can imagine, the whole messy situation had it's affect on me. However..." he steeled himself. "...I will not betray you. I've learned a lot since I first came here to Earth, and one of those things? A warrior's honor. Pride and honor should go hand in hand, do you not agree?"
The Saiya-jin would relax a bit as he realized he was safe. To him, this was neutral ground. He wasn't in war...there wasn't a commander. He had no need to kill outside of battle, not under orders. He may not be pure good, but he is not pure evil either.
Maybe he was just a damned good soldier?

"You claim to know the definition of "pain". Allow me to show you it's true meaning!"- Carva
Galen chuckled when Carva mentioned this eternal youth thing and just shook his head. ”No, no! Hahaha! It’s just my genetics! My father looked younger than he was back at the day! I think I look like him in a lot of ways… Except I don’t have a beard… Dunno why… It never grew!” he said in a rather casual and light-hearted tone. However, the situation became far more serious and Galen’s smile faded away when Carva shared his story of how his uncle betrayed his parents trust and killed them and how it affected him. The Tower Keeper sighed in sadness as he realized how most people dealt with such tragedies: by turning themselves towards violence, instead of fighting against it. With a more serious, yet compassionate expression, he stared at Carva and gently touched his shoulder.
”Let me share something about me with you…” he paused briefly. ”When I was very young, my village was constantly attacked by a bandit group. Because of that we were constantly harassed and robbed. The Orin Monks took pity on us and selected a few young people to train, the one’s they recognized had potential to develop their ki energy. I was among them. For a long time we trained and when we were back, for the very first time we managed to drive them away. We defeated them but didn’t kill them.” he explained, exhaling sharply. ”After that, most of my training partners relaxed and gave up on continuing their training, except for me. After some time they attacked again, stronger than ever and they killed a lot of people in my village as revenge and I was the only one capable of actually fighting them. In the end, all of the bandits died, but their leader and I dueled against him.” Galen’s eyes watered a bit as he was reminded of the pain of his friends and family.
”In the end, I won. But only me and my sister survived. Everyone else died. Part of me kept on blaming myself because, if I hadn’t spared him the first time, that tragedy wouldn’t have happened. But, in the end, I would become a bit like the bandit I was facing so… Wouldn’t I be a hypocrite by becoming the very person I was fighting against? “ he asked of Carva, even though it was more of a rhetorical question. ”After that I decided to dedicate my life to protect people. Sometimes we have no choice but to kill our enemies, but… If I can avoid it and help them change their ways… That’s where true victory lies, Carva.” and that was what he truly believed. The tears rolling down his face were sincere and carried the very core of the ideals of his heart.
The difference between Carva and Galen was that the young human had handled his grief over his family differently. Whether or not Carva was meant for a life of violence, by the age of six he was well on his way to becoming a living, breathing weapon of destruction. Another difference would be quite obvious as Galen would only see rage burning in the hybrid's eyes as he spoke of his parent's murder. He didn't tear up, his lip didn't so much as quiver. His expression was that of as battle hardened warrior, though he and Galen appeared to be very close in age.
Carva showed just an ounce of sympathy for the young man. It would be a rare occurrence to be sure. He patted the human on the back very apprehensively. "I regret hearing about your family, Master Galen. And you are right...one must dedicate their life to something, but I believe that my purpose is to continue learning, constantly. To be the greatest warrior in existence."
He was being civil though...peaceful. He would slowly decline his head as he regarded Galen's own pain, at the very least realizing that humans were different than Saiya-jins. The very thing that made Carva different was that he was seemingly more intelligent than most. But one thing bothered Carva. He sighed. "Honestly, I can't say that I was sure anyone would be here. It's embarrassing to say, but since my scouter was destroyed, I can't get a reading on any life. It's more like "we'll see what's there when we cross that bridge." He'd force a chuckle out and exhale deeply. "Yet, you speak as if you knew I was coming. I've had others find me due to my ki signature as well. What I don't understand...is...how?"

"You claim to know the definition of "pain". Allow me to show you it's true meaning!"- Carva
Galen wiped the tears off his face with the back of his forearm and sniffed a bit, as he slowly got back to his light-heated expression, with the gentle smile on his face. When Carva said that his goal was to become the greatest warrior in existence, Galen chuckled a bit and nodded. ”Then you have to work really hard, Carva. There are a lot of strong people out there… It’s quite a road to follow, but if that’s truly your goal… Don’t give up!” he said, supporting the saiyan in the way he could. In a sense, Galen was trying to become stronger too, not because he wanted to be the best out there, far from him, he didn’t even think about it that way, but mostly because he wanted to be really useful to the planet and someone actually capable of protecting it and not getting defeated outright, like he was the last time he got into a serious life or death situation.
Then, Carva asked him a question that made him chuckle yet again as he was reminded of his earlier days when he first arrived on Korin’s Holy Grounds and met most of his current friends and allies: Galen couldn’t sense ki energy at all and it was all but a mystery to him. ”I understand you entirely… When I first arrived here I couldn’t sense ki energy either… But it’s quite a handy skill to learn! Well… If you want I can teach you, but first I should stop suppressing my power, otherwise you will have truly nothing to sense!” he said that chuckling a bit more and, although nothing seemed to change, Galen let go of his ki suppression.
”Now… Carva, you should first try and meditate, try to feel what is around you with your mind and ki energy alike. Try to touch the world around you not with your current five senses, but with your ki… It may be tricky, but I’m sure someone of your level of power will be capable of accomplishing that!” he said as he waited Carva to try.
Even though it was something that he himself would never show, it was refreshing to see Galen's happy-go-lucky attitude. Not something that was very common in Carva's experience, that would be for certain. His goals weren't at all like those of the human he was now speaking to, but at the core they both wanted to become stronger for very different reasons. He smirked. "Now what sort of warrior would I be if giving up were even considered? Oh, I am well aware that their are stronger warriors out there but rather than fear them I know to learn from them."
Galen would sense a pure conviction in the words of Carva, and the warrior definitely meant what he said. His pride wouldn't allow such a petty thing as fear to cloud his vision of his goal. He'd been told so many times by those of pure blood that he wouldn't amount to what they could, yet he'd surpassed most his age. He leaned back against his chair, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
As Galen answered his questions concerning his abilities to sense the Ki of others, the astute Carva would listen closely. He stroked his chin as the human spoke to him, and little did Carva know that this would prove that the most battle hardened Saiya-jin could learn anything. He would comment on his understanding of what Galen had told him. "So, you just put any other sounds or smells? Basically focus and "feel" the area with your ki?"
He'd think about that for a moment, hrm'ing to himself. After careful consideration, the Saiya-jin would close his eyes slowly, trusting the human not to try and take him out or anything. At first, he would hear the gentle breeze sweeping through the tower. The smell of the bacon, eggs, sausage...he could still smell the grease. But soon...
Thump thump...Thump thump...he'd hear only his own heartbeat as all would fade out before him, and soon...he'd feel the vacuum of ki within him as it pulled at the energy keeping him alive. He'd visualize the sight of his red ki seeping outward for a moment...tendrils of power seeking like energy.
At first...it didn't seem to work, but suddenly...he'd feel a foreign energy across from him. Then his ki would reach out and touch those in the world below, finding a few signatures. All unfamiliar to him, but keep in mind that he is learning. He'd speak as he began to get the hang of thus technique. "I can feel something strange...it feels like a hundred pulses, but...not exactly like heart beats. More like...energy fluctuating everywhere...it's hard to describe, but I can feel them...people...some Saiyans? You..." his eyes would open. "...you're quite powerful for an Earthling, Master Galen. Yet you spoke of suppressing your power and that sounds like the counter technique to this one. The next logical thing to ask...how do you do that?"
