Demalia was still a little puzzled by Twitch’s erratic movements that he was doing constantly. She was also a little concerned about his face going red. Although he didn’t seem to be feeling ill in the slightest. So maybe it was just a quirk that the scouter didn’t mention to her. She put all those thoughts aside again when Twitch started to talk about what he planned to do with his latest project. A frown spread across her face as he explained exactly how he had constructed his spaceship. This was something that wasn’t going to end well.
"You plan on traveling space in a craft you build from spare parts? That's extremely dangerous. I'd be surprised if you could get it off the ground. Even if you did, it wouldn't last long. A spacecraft has to achieve escape velocity while also dealing with the dangerous of space, and atmospheric entry while landing on any planet you travel to. You should travel in something much more stable. If you want to go somewhere, then you can travel in my ship. It's a state of the art craft. I tend on leaving Plant to partake on a journey off world. If you're interested I could bring you along with me."
Demalia wasn't planning on taking anyone with her originally. Although having another crew member would be welcome. It would get rather lonely if she just traveled the stars by herself. Besides, she couldn't have Twitch risking his life by going into a craft made from old parts lying around. Still, Demalia understood wanting to make things. It was something that she did all the time, as she was about to explain to Tweek.
“I make all kinds of gadgets. I made my own toys when I was younger. I’ve learned a lot from my school and mother respectively. I specialize in electronics, so I make all kind of things. The most recent being the stealth drive on my ship. As for why I’m interested in your work, it’s because I’m curious. I wanted to see what kind of inventions you came up with.”
Twitch then scooted closer to her, to the point where they were touching shoulders. He then commented on how tall she was. Suddenly, a switch flipped on inside of Demalia’s head. The awkward behavior, how red his face was, the fact that he was talking about her appearance…. was he interested in her? He did say that people tended not to stay around with him, so he might have gotten attached…. no, I can’t jump to conclusions. Maybe he’s just being really awkward about things.
Still, Demalia felt her face heating up as she looked down at the smaller Tuffle. There was a noticeable twinge of pink on her face, although it wasn’t nearly as pronounced as the redness on Twitch’s face. Demalia decided that it was best to leave that thought alone unless if things became more obvious. She didn’t move or attempt to push him away, letting him lean on her shoulder for the time being.
“Yeah... I’m tall, like you said before. It’s brought up quite a few questions from others and is a bit inconvenient sometimes. Tuffel’s design things to accommodate shorter individuals. I’ve bumped my head on quite a few doors. I’ve gotten a bit more careful about that though. I managed to get in here without giving myself a concussion.”
Demalia had no idea where the conversation was going to go next. Still, Twitch was okay physically, so she could leave anytime she wanted. If things got a little too awkward, she could always just say that there was somewhere she had to be before departing. Twitch seemed to need a friend right now though, so she would stay with him for a little while. He was often alone and not many people talked to him.
He scratched his head seeming a little confused if unsure about her offer and continued kindness. Offers and actual advice on his experiments was strange if not foreign to him. He thought on it for a few moments looking at the ship and several parts still strewn about on the floor. Most of it was built from the ground up from salvaged tech and antiques. "Why want company? Where do you go? Very different... Confused. Why would you do such things?... Whats wrong with ship..." He'd say pausing for a moment. Looking at some of the parts on the ground. Sure he'd rebuilt them properly. His mind for a moment racing as he considered the wiring and armored platting. As well as safety measures and a few pieces he was missing. His mind racing as he tried to back track most of his work in broken thoughts in his mind. Wondering if he'd missed something that was clearly obvious to another.
He tilted his head at the idea of a stealth drive. He knew of similar tech but such things were expensive to buy and difficult to make. It easily cut through his thoughts to gain a response. "Stealth? Why need stealth? What did you use? How did you make one? An yes.. I can make lots of things. Just need to know what... Need stuff to fix." Smiling a little enjoying the moment and the conversation and thought from it. Interactions with more normal people as some would put it was strange to him. He didn't understand certain social cues or emotions very well on a personal level.
He thought on her words for a few moment as to the down sides of her stature. His head tilting to the opposite this time. "Strange... Would seem to be a good thing though. Larger? Stronger? But custom building and tech could be a problem... Yes. But you can build stuff to help? Make stuff better? Bigger?" Not quite sure how to correct this problem. It wasn't tech and you can't exactly alter a entire world. He seemed to think on it for a long moment as if in a moment of concentration. But he couldn't seem to think of anything it stumped him and seemed to annoy him as he seemed to think on it quite heavily. He looked at her while thinking and when he went to look away in the glance as if thinking he stopped as if something caught his eye. Raising a hand slowly and a finger would poke lightly upon her cheek as the red faced boy seemed confused. "Pink?" Not quite picking up why she was turning a more lighter pigment. Perhaps not even realizing he himself had redder cheeks. After all such things were foreign to his understanding as of this time.
Demalia looked down at the ground, twiddling her hand with her thumbs. Like Twitch, she wasn’t very good at handling social situations. She usually kept her interaction with people to a bare minimum. Even when she went out of her way to help others she usually interacted only as much as she had to. Twitch was the first person she spent a good amount of time with. He was a strange person to talk to, but maybe that was why she found it easier to interact with him. She let out an awkward smile as he bombarded her with questions.
“It’s weird being on the other side of that for once. Usually I’m the one who asks all the questions. I originally planned going on a research expedition to other planets with my parents. Even though that is no longer possible, I still intend to travel to study other worlds. Recent events have given me other reasons to go up into space. As for why I do these things, I have quite a few reasons. One of those reasons is fairly obvious: scientific minds earn to learn and discover new things. There are still much we don't know about the universe."
Demalia paused to catch her breath, glancing over at Twitch. She noticed that he was inspecting the parts on the ground. She could practically see the gears turning in his head. He was already thinking on ways to improve the design for the ship he was building. He had a very scientific mind like she did. She felt a little bad for what she was about to say. But there was no room for error when constructing a spacecraft.
"I have no doubt you're capable of putting together a spacecraft that can fly. The problem is that the materials you use can be the difference between right and death. Even the smartest people in existence can't perform miracles that aren't scientifically possible. You're using spare parts that you've scavenged, from what I understand. Space travel is dangerous. You need to have a ship that can withstand all the harsh conditions out there. There's too many for me to count on one hand. The biggest problem is atmospheric entry. If your spacecraft isn't strong enough, it will be pulled apart by the gravitational forces and intense temperatures. If you show me what you've put together so far, then I can make a more accurate assessment. From what you've told me though, I don't think your craft would last long out there."
Demalia bend down, gingerly picking up one of the mechanical parts sprawled on the ground. She absentmindedly turned it in her hand, thinking about how to approach things. She didn’t want to inadvertently convey to Twitch that he was dumb and that he was doing things totally wrong. He was anything but dumb, despite his strange way of talking.
“Well, first of all, a stealth system is good for hiding from unfriendly eyes. Space has many dangers, like I said before. A stealth system is also the best way to conduct a study without interfering in ways that could influence how results turn out. How you build one…. I’ll show you sometime. The goals of a stealth system are simple, but the mechanics are rather complicated.”
Demalia stood up, setting down the piece of machinery down on the bed gently. She could tell that they weren’t going anywhere just talking about things, so it was time to actually observe the spacecraft. Besides, it would be a good distraction from the more awkward parts of their conversation. Better to focus on their projects rather than how embarrassing the situation was for both of them.
“Yes, I’m rather fond of the color pink. Why don’t you show me the craft you’ve put together? I can give a detailed inspection to it and confirm whether or not it’s suitable for travel.”
She seemed genuine enough but still a little strange. Not necessarily in a bad way though he thought. Quite the opposite actually as she'd been more pleasant company then he'd known for some time. He listened but his attention span came and went in waves. Some things sticking while others flowed through one ear and right out the other shortly moments after. She seemed to understand most things tech wise which was one detail that did stick though. Listening to her and observing her look over what he had as it were made him wonder if anything he had done in terms of repair would even impress or seem passable to her. While he was no amateur himself he didn't exactly favor the idea of stacking his skill against other more... formally trained possible of his fellow Tuffle race.
"Hmm? Inspection?! But isn't ready! Paneling is good but needs adjustment. Computer is...." He'd take a moment to look at the terminal in several pieces strewn about on the floor connecting on long cords and fiber wires stretched out along the way. But even as the ship stood with its guts pulled and strewn about. The terminal and other varies functions seemed powered but safely in a form of power saving. The terminal lit up with the functions and controls seen but several reading error as it was disconnecting from a few other things such as thrust and the engines. Not wanting to risk a hardware failure or accidentally igniting of the engines while just practicing with its software. He still had to fix several things in the software let alone the hardware as well. It was in all terms a salvage job and a bit of a hobby. But even as it seemed to be made out of only spare parts and scrap. It held together almost as well as a store cheap model. But as for long term functionality it was unlikely to hold for long. He looked to the ship and to her but didn't seem to object at all when she moved about with it or other tech. As if showing he was okay with most anything she may desire to do or at least not raise any complaints. "Feel free to look... Anything else you want to ask?" He'd curiously say staying close by with that curious bit to his step and expression that seemed to stick for the moment.
When she finally laid eyes on Twitch's craft, she was immediately appalled by the design of it. It was still under construction, but if he kept on building it the way he was, the end result wasn't going to be much better then this. All the parts he were using were fairly old, with the exception of the software he was using. That looked to be fairly new, although she'd have to get closer in order to investigate. Demalia's eyebrow was making a motion that shared its name with her new friend as she thought about how to proceed.
I can't believe that he has the courage to fly in something like this! This.... is worse then I expected. I can't tell him dangerous it is: he's worked hard on this ship. I can't let him fly in this thing either though. I think I can make it safe enough to travel without completely starting from scratch. This is going to be tricky though.
Demalia walked over to the the ship, reaching up with both hands and adjusting her glasses. She gave everything a good careful inspection, checking every part that she could. After about 10 minutes, she moved over to the terminal and starting typing in it. She pulled up the readings. She typed away, giving her diagnosis of the machine.
"You've done a surprisingly good job with what you've got. The wiring is all correct and in good condition. Most of the software is up to date too, although you're going to need to update a few things. As I suspected, you're going to have to make the outer shell out of stronger materials. I would also like to test your engines and vital equipment before you fly in this thing. Don't worry, I can get the materials you need. It's not that much trouble for me, since I know how to get them. Until this is done, I'll take you to anywhere you want to go to off world. It's not too much trouble for me, so don't feel bad about it. I'd be much more at ease seeing you fly up in a much safer vessel then take any chances in the current condition of this craft."
Demalia thought she managed to explain it very well. She was trying not to hurt his feelings while also criticizing him on the things that needed improvement. She also was only going to have to replace what she had to. Buying a new pod altogether would be the fastest solution to this problem. That was a little more expensive to do, and she didn't want to hurt Twitches feelings on it. If she told him to trash it entirely, he would likely feel bad about it. This whole "being social" thing was a new concept for Demalia. She hoped she was doing it properly.
He watched her closely remaining rather close for the moment. His yellow and green eyes looking her up and down studying her body language as well as here facial features as she seemed to rather seriously observe the craft he'd been working on for some time now. The best he could do with the resources at his disposal. It wasn't easy to find high tier parts or great tech everyday however. But he liked to think for what he did find he did well in salvaging and repurposing even most of it.
He seemed to scratch his head a little at the explanation however. Some of it still intriguing as it was confusing to himself. She was friendly still offering even rides around the planet or aid in getting and finding the parts he'd require to more properly finish the job. Although the more it came about the more it came within grasp of understanding only to slip through his finger each time he felt he was nearly able to grasp it. "Sure? You very nice... Glad you like it. Worked hard, really hard. But... Hmm." He seemed to sigh and look away briefly his shaggy green hair a bit of a bed head mess in style.
But as he'd turn back his hand rose slowly and placed on her forearm a little. He seemed confused if not sad perhaps with a look that while a little confused or in thought as well seemed to expect some bit of disappointment as if he partly had been considering to dwelling on some small thought within his mind of less then desirable ideas. "Why so kind really? Is nice... someone here. Usually alone... Always. Strange, happy appreciated! Just..." He'd rub the bandage on his head with his other hand. Only a little crimson visible upon it as the dressing had done well. His hands as well beyond a light natural shake had long since calmed. His body relaxed and no longer nearly as tense as it was from his prior accident. He even seemed to beyond small reactions to pain show much sign of needed further care. But he just seemed worried, Perhaps it was he expected some of it was... pity? Or given how he was... It was so strange to ever truly be given such help let alone from such a pretty 'tall' girl. Maybe he in some way just expected most things to come with a edge as they often did for him before long.
"It's very apparent that you've worked very hard on this. Given with what you had to work with, it's in better condition then I expected for it to be. I don’t think I could have done it much better myself if I had only the materials that you had at your disposal.”
Demalia was being honest with her compliments. Despite how ugly the craft was aesthetic wise and it's faults, he really did do a surprising job putting it together. When Twitch once again questioned why she was helping him this much and why she was being as nice as she was, she realized why he was repeating this question to her. He thought there was going to be some sort of catch to all of this. Not that she blamed him for having that train of thought though. There were people that would definitely try to take advantage of someone like Twitch despite being fairly intelligent, his speech pattern could give the impression that he was the opposite of that. Demalia reached up, rubbing the back of her head while tapping her heels together. It was something she sometimes did whenever she had to think really carefully about something on the spot.
"That's like asking someone why they like their favorite color so much. I just turned out as empathetic as I did. It helped that I was raised by kind, loving parents who had good believes and values that they passed on to me. I'm just like this in general."
Demalia walked over to the bed and sat down on it again, looking over at Twitch. She had managed to get him patched up physically. Now she wanted to help him get rid of any doubts or concerns he might have in his mind right now.
"I came here originally just to help you get better physically originally. I was going to spend a little bit of time here before leaving. But then you brought up your spaceship, and I had to check it out. I tend to carry away when something interests me. Before I knew it, I was running a diagnostic on your craft. Besides, it would be a shame if you got yourself killed in space after recovering from getting hit from a car. Might as well do all I can to make your journey a safe one."
Demalia gave Twitch a small smile, her face turning slightly pink with embarrassment. She couldn't believe she was in high enough spirits to crack a joke. Okay, it was rather macabre, but it was still a joke. Demalia reached out, squeezing Twitch's shoulder reassuringly.
"I'm not trying to get something from you, nor do I have an ulterior motive for helping you with your ship. I just want to make sure you don't get yourself killed, that's all. I like doing these kind of projects anyway, so it isn't any trouble to me at all."
Tomina lowered her hand from Twitch's shoulder, looking down at the ground while kicking her legs rhythmically. In truth, that was the best answer she could give him. She honestly didn't know how else to explain it. She hopped it was enough to convince Twitch that she wasn't up to anything. The conversation had gotten strange enough as it was. She wanted to be a bit normal again, and not focused on why she was doing what she was doing.

It was a interesting conversation to say the least. Let alone having someone actually enter is tech mess of a home. Twitch hadn't really expected any of this when he first set out this morning with a few commissions of work and the intention of simply vising the saiba's at work. But he'd smile up at her and think on her words. Perhaps she was right about this project... He'd be curious perhaps to hear more of her advice on it all. While he wasn't used to having someone over his shoulder reviewing his work. The company and opinions were more then welcome.
--- We can end this one here if you'd like. I'd take Zeni if so. Sorry for the hold up x-x
Demalia stayed with Twitch for a few more hours, talking about their various projects and other things. Eventually though, it did get fairly late and Demalia had to go. She gave Twitch her contact information though, so that they could stay in contact with one another. As she walked home, she played back their interaction in her head. It had certainly been a very memorable one. Demalia hoped that they would cross paths again sometime.
He’s certainly a very interesting guy. Hopefully he’ll stay safe and won’t do anything too dangerous. That was a bold project, but rather foolhardy. I'm glad I talked him out of traveling in that thing.
Demalia turned into an alleyway, then flew up over the buildings towards her house. She was going to go back to the lab and look over some things before going to bed. Or perhaps she would simply read a book. Either way, she would have a very nice evening.
