Calla seemed to be quite interested in Galen’s little place and that made him giggle a bit. It wasn’t much, but he loved it anyway and felt really at home in his high tower among the clouds. When he offered her food, she said she wanted steak and that surprised him because he was betting on Ramen as it had a much more refined flavor and used plenty of ingredients. Truth be told, Galen was kind of looking forward preparing it, but he had to be nice to his guest and would do as she pleased. He chuckled a bit and nodded. ”Steak it is then! I will get it ready in no time!” and with that being said, he opened one of his jars and a cold breeze came magically out of it. The jar was enchanted by ancient magic to work as a refrigerator and from there he grabbed three large pieces of sirloin and with the power of his ki he defrosted it in an instant.
The human fired a tiny bit of energy form his index finger and lit the grill, then he carefully placed the steaks in that and they started grilling it. From another jar he grabbed some pink salt, which was far more healthy and tasty than regular salt and carefully put them over the steak, allowing it to melt with time and give it some flavor. ”I know saiyans have an appetite much bigger than humans, so one for me and two for you. Sounds good? If you don’t think it’s enough, I still have another two pieces that I can grill.” he said with a kind tone, with his eyes focused on the steak he was carefully preparing in order for it to be tasty and perfect.
When she spoke to him again, saying his name, he replied without turning around. ”Uhn?” Calla asked to visit him again and she sounded quite unsure in her tone. The human turned his face to stare at her, with that kindness he had and, with a light chuckle he nodded. ”You are always welcomed here, Calla. I would love to have you here anytime you wish to come by.” and with those words, he took the stake, putting it on a plate and offering it to her. ”And I truly hope you like my steak! Hehehe!” he laughed a bit, sitting near the grill and getting ready to eat his meal.
Wait what - did he just pull three slabs of meat from that jar, but, they look fine delicious even! There's even a slight chill in the air now; I'm not aware of any manipulation of Aura like that. Probably another perk of being the Keeper, still that's a rather strange storage place for food. Though, it's true I haven't seen a refrigerator around his home either.
When the grill lit up, Calla stepped towards its warmth - partly because of the heat put off, but mostly to watch the steaks cook. Her tongue slipped across her upper lip briefly, and she sniffed rather heavily at the smells that radiated into a satisfying aroma. The salts Galen thereafter added only increased the anticipation, so when he spoke, she almost missed it entirely. However once she replayed it in her mind, a flash of appreciation became a soft smile across her face. Tail twitching rather furiously against her navel, she let it loose once more so it could dart about behind her.
Calla grew up as a human, so appetite was one of the many things that had to be adjusted to suit their culture and sensibilities. Often, she would have to stifle herself from eating what she actually desired in order to 'fit' in. In most cases, the portions weren't enough to sate her hunger, but peer pressure - among other things - insisted that she conform to their standards. Never would a young girl be offered two steaks instead of one, let alone a third or forth cut! Like most of her kin, she couldn't help but be excited by the promise of a great meal, and while nurtured on Earth, sometimes nature would win out; this would be one of those moments.
"As long as you don't mind, I'll have a third cut," she stated quickly averting her gaze from him in case he decided to turn 'round and stare at the brief blush on her face. Thankfully, he seemed to be completely engrossed in his task. Granted, she knew she hadn't a reason to be embarrassed, but everything she had been taught growing up, said what she asked for simply wasn't proper of a teenage girl. It's the main reason she had become sort of a youth chef - making her own meals ensured she could divide up the amounts any way she wanted. In short if she could cook, she wouldn't starve.
When Galen offered her the plate, she nodded as if it wouldn't be possible not to 'like it.' Sure, he might be a terrible cook, but she highly doubted that, and besides, to her steak was steak, and it would always be yummy. She did restrain herself for a moment, quite happy that he would welcome her on the Tower (his home) beyond tonight. After that point though, she quite literally dug into the flesh of it - not bothering with utensils that she may have used in practically every other situation. She simply chewed around the fat (broke it apart with her hands), and left the remnants rather neatly on the plate over the course of the meal.
"Amazing," she blurted out with contentment while stealing a peek to see if Galen would indeed prepare her another slice as he had said he would earlier. Not that she would be annoyed otherwise or anything like that; quite the contrary, it seemed she lost herself for bit just enjoying the meat in the first place. She started to lick her fingers, in part to clean them, but truthfully to get every last morsel left. And, as she savored the taste, she wondered just how many visitors he happened to entertain. It couldn't be many, given that this Tower of his stood so far to the East - void of much of the more modern portions of civilization that sprung up.
"You don't have many guests do you?" Calla asked as she brought a hand across her face to wipe away some of the mess that caked there. "It would be challenging for a lot of persons to climb up - if they couldn't fly." She set the plate casually to the side for a moment sighing as she waited patiently for the last portion. She glanced over at the plant that drew her attention when they first entered. "Are those the 'magickal' beans?" She added to lighten the mood somewhat, and to draw his attention from her less appealing traits. "Would you tell me of why they're so special - I don't prefer them; they're never too tasty?"

Galen chuckle lightly when she said she would have a third cut if he didn’t mind and promptly he put yet another one at the grill; he didn’t mind at all, he had more food than he could eat since the members of the Karinga Tribe would always offer him some share of their hunt and harvest. Once he had finished and offered the plate to her, he sit down to eat his own piece of meat and, just like her, he didn’t use and silverware to do the job and instead ate it with his own two hands. Truth be told, Galen was the son of farmers and he grew up in the land, near animals and the dirt, so he wasn’t that keen on using such fancy stuff and, most of the time he would eat with his hands, spoon, or chopsticks, but that was pretty much it.
She ate quick and they finished nearly at the same time, even though he was eating a third of what the girl had on her plate. ”Saiyans are incredible.” he thought to himself, feeling a little odd when he compared his race with the tailed warrior race. It didn’t even seem like a fair comparison and, even though Galen was doing his very best, he was far weaker than most of his friends who started of like him and that made him feel a little bad, but he would quickly shake his head and restore the kind and friendly smile on his face. That was when she asked if he didn’t have many guests and he nodded.
”It’s not the most welcoming of places, so it can get quite lonely. Still, some people end up here from time to time and it’s always an amusing tale.” he chuckled, remembering about people he met as the Tower Keeper, such as Baalbatos and Carva, all odd figures. ”But climbing the tower is one of its challenges. I did it twice.” he felt it was important to fill her up with that information. Then, Calla stared at the senzu tree and asked about them. They didn’t look like much, that was a fact, but when she asked why they were so special, he chuckled and smiled proudly. ”I’m the only one who can grow them in the whole world! Maybe in the whole universe!” he said, pausing briefly. Galen grabbed a bag tied to his belt and opened it. From inside of it, came to the palm of his hands three beans. He grabbed one of them with his right hand and handed it over to Calla. ”This one is for you, as a gift.” he said in a gentle and caring tone.
”The senzu bean… Well… They are special in many ways. A single one of them keeps a person full for ten whole days! I don’t know if it works like that for a saiyan, but it should get you people full for at least two or three days. Hahahaha!” he laughed in a light-hearted tone. ”But that’s just the bonus ability they have! Hehehe. The real magic in them is… They can heal you from any wound. I mean, literally any wound, in an instant should you eat them. And even if you don’t eat them and, instead, make an ointment with them, they can still heal, although not as efficiently.” he said, sighing briefly as he remembered when Cleopatra took care of him and made such an use, rending him a deep scar in his solar plexus, but she saved his life and he would be forever grateful. ”Being impaled, losing a limb, being blasted in half. This can all be healed by eating a single one of those beans. “ he explained, waiting to see her reaction to that.
That is an unusual challenge: climb this extremely tall totem tower and seek your reward in the clouds. Okay, it's a little adorable, but still, you'd have to be nuts to attempt it once - let alone twice! I'll admit though, it's a rather impressive feat. Personally, I'd stick to flying up here if I visit.
While Galen told of the magick in the beans he grew, Calla finished her delicious meal; even still savoring the taste as she slipped her tongue around her face quickly - in a spare moment of course when he happened not to be glancing in her direction. Mostly her manners went out the door if she allowed them to, but that didn't necessarily mean she wanted to be perceived as a type of vile beastie. Instead she poked at the remnants on her lips and thereafter wiped the rest away. Her hands were not in the most pleasant of states however: sticky from meat rubbings and grease, but at least they appeared clean as she began to lick each of her fingers one by one. She lingered there as well, enjoying the lasting flavor.
Thankfully by the time her Human friend had decided to extended a gift in her direction, she finished tidying her hands up. Slipping both her palms down she casually cleaned them off against herself, and patted the excess gently afterward. Then, she opened one of them for him and caught the bean offering. Peering at it, she studied for a moment before her head tilted back in the direction of the Senzu Tree. It did appear as kin to the plant, and likewise didn't seem all that special: just another not yummy vegetable. She tested its health, applying light pressure to the bean with a squeeze between her fingers. It felt, firm and crisp, and more weighty than she expected. Then again, this tiny morsel was supposed to keep someone fed for over a week! Not only that, but Galen also claimed it could heal any wound.
He hadn't lied to her yet, and the Saiyan Youth doubted that he would ever wish to do so. Still, she couldn't find the words to respond right away, and instead stared at the impossible bean for several moments more. It occurred to her, that if all the magicks this little thing possessed were real, then she could never really hope to match the gesture in return. She had nothing impressive to part with; the best she could do would be to provide her company. And with the pressure from her mother reining her in, even that could prove difficult. She figured eventually she wouldn't have no choice but to attend school again. Sighing, she closed her palm around the Senzu and held it tight - it would be wise if she left it in a safe place tonight
It can stay off death huh. That's pretty damn awesome! But, I can't help but worry - is there a reason he is giving this to me now? I hope I won't have to use it underneath the full moon tonight. That would be such a waste, as I can't believe he would ever willing do me so much harm. I'd prefer to save it, for when I'm at my darkest point, and I have nothing else to lose.
"Thank you, Galen," Calla uttered quietly rather stricken by a gift of such value, especially when she had absolutely nothing to offer him in return. "But, I believe it's best if I leave it here for the night, at least until after we see the moon together," she explained keeping her voice steady and true as she gently strided over to the plant itself and placed the Senzu with it. "I wouldn't want to damage it, or lose it in the chaos of the 'eve to come." Facing him once more, she walked back. "Do you know how, or uh, why it possesses such amazing regenerative properties? It seems an awful lot like 'real' magick to me. That can't be true, right?" And she laughed softly at her own words as she joined herself beside him.
Galen paid no mind to Calla licking her fingers. Truth be told, he did that quite often since there was usually no one around him to judge his manners and stuff. The saiyan girl thanked him for the gift and he just shook his head. ”No need to thank me for that. It was my pleasure. Save it for a dire situation, to when you really need it. I pray that you won’t ever need to use it, but if you do, it will save your life.” his tone was casual, but he was genuinely concerned about her well-being and he wanted to advise her to the best of his abilities. When she said she should leave it there, he made a brief nod agreeing with the girl; he had no intention of hurting her during the night, so it would be quite alright.
Still, he couldn’t help but to laugh a bit when she asked about the senzu beans, saying they did seem like magic of some sort and then he nodded again. ”Because they are indeed magical. They are very special beans that came to Earth as a gift to our Guardian, the one I help protecting. It is a gift from the upper worlds. The afterlife, some may call. Heaven others would say. They are divine beans, meant to protect people and make sure righteousness will endure.” Galen knew that by studying for his duties as the Keeper of Korin’s Tower and, even though he had never been to the afterlife, he knew it to be true since, after all, he had the opportunity to meet a God of Destruction and a Kaioshin, meaning the gods did exist.
”Magic is real in this world.” he added, pausing briefly as his gaze aimed at the setting sun. ”And so are the gods. I’ve met them myself not a very long time ago. And I must tell you, Calla, this world is far bigger than our little and beautiful Earth. Still… I don’t think I would trade it for anything else. No… I would give my life for it if needed.” and then he sighed, pausing yet again. His hand touched his solar plexus, where he had a dark scar hidden by his clothes, a memento from his fight with Durendal, a battle that almost cost him his life. ”I was once saved by the very same senzu bean I gave you…” he said, cracking a subtle smile and then staring back at her. ”But I don’t regret it. I was fighting for truth and justice.” he added, chuckling a bit.
He's serious - at least he really believes that the Senzus are magick - a gift from the Afterlife though? I'm unsure what to think about that. Divine. If that is the case, does that mean I was always meant to come here; to meet Galen and to be gifted something so extraordinary? This is just a lot to take in. When I left home today, I just wanted to resist the urge to cry.
As the sun started to set, so high in the sky as they were, its brilliance stretched across the horizon. Piercing the clouds, the last remnants of beamed rays flickered through at various spots; the rest colored each grand puff of white in hues of orange and faded reds. It seemed as though the sky had been set ablaze. And, the shadows of things were cast wildly - nearly dancing while the bright orb slipped lower and lower into the horizon. Taken aback, Calla turned towards the scene, listening as Galen's words of magick, gods and worlds beyond Earth, reached her ears.
Honestly, he expected her to believe a lot in one sitting: in legends and gods, and things that to a certain extent she thought to be utter fantasy. Yes, as a Saiyan, she knew of what potentials she could reach and all of the frighteningly amazing feats she could achieve, but that stemmed from centuries of biological evolution, rooted in science. Her own Aura as well was a manifestation of herself in the form of Ki. Real magick, something that she couldn't explain, but existed regardless, brought a rush of tingling excitement up her spine.
Her tail swayed, swiping at invisible currents of air that swept about in a breeze. The sight of the sun's descent though, brought the reality of the coming twilight back into perspective. How long would it take for the Full Moon to rise to its peak at the top of the horizon? She didn't know; never really cared to study the skies like that. Suddenly though that information would have proved rather useful - now that instead of stowing herself away she'd allow her body to absorb enough Blutz Waves to transform. A tremor ran through her tail, as though it anticipated the event itself tonight, and she shuddered turning her back to the setting sun. It never occurred to her, that she could be so scared of herself until this moment itself drew near.
She peeked down at her hands - they were trembling. Clasping them together, she inhaled deeply, and addressed her friend. "It's beautiful isn't it - the sunset?" The young Saiyan asked as her tail wrapped back around her waist. "I've never seen it from so high up," she made slight small talk, trying (and rather poorly) to distract from the issue at hand, but really to no avail. Shaking her head, she faced it again, daring to look as it sunk further and further down fleeing her gaze. Without speaking she walked towards the Northwest edge of the Tower, and leaned forward to watch the rest of the sun's departure.
Briefly, she looked back to see if Galen followed, but continued speaking, knowing well enough her voice would carry across the breadth of his home anyways. "This might sound a bit odd, given that I'm a Sayian," she began stumbling a bit over her words while resting against one of the open-air windows. "But, I don't really know what it feels like to change - uhm transform. Do you think it'll be painful?" She naturally felt nervous earlier, but now that the rise of the Moon was so close, the anxiety hit her in full. "Mrgrr, never mind, you couldn't possibly know. It's just, I've lived with humans all my life, this wasn't ever formally explained to me."
All he was saying was a little too much for anyone who wasn’t used to this magical side of the world and he knew that. Galen was just way too sincere to sugarcoat stuff, and he would rather just pour all the information down on her and then allow the saiyan girl to slowly digest everything he had told her about. Still, he couldn’t help but to find her confused face cute and he giggled a bit on his natural carefree tone.
The sun was setting now and Galen loved the sight of it. The rays of the sun touched the clouds, that were below their level, painting it in a pure golden hue, almost as if they were in the fields of heaven itself. ”This world… Is amazing…” he thought to himself and, almost as if she was capable of reading minds, Calla commented on how beautiful it was. Galen chuckled a bit and made a single nod. ”Yeah… It’s my favorite time of the day…” he commented and when she added that it was her first time seeing it from so far up into the skies, he made another nod. ”On my first week here, as the Tower Keeper, I couldn’t help but to watch every second of every sunset and sunrise. I was completely awestruck by it. And I still am. I guess I’m lucky to be chosen for this role after all.” and he was truly glad fate had smile upon the human, even if his past was filled with some very cloudy days with plenty of sorrow and loneliness.
After that, silently, he watched her go to the northwestern part of the Tower, to watch the sun setting and he slowly followed her, watching it too. She was nervous about transforming and that much was clear and when she asked if it hurt, and shortly afterwards told him to forget the question, he felt an urge to comfort her and so he gently touched her shoulder. ”I’ve witness a few saiyans transforming… One of my best friends is a saiyan… Well, half-saiyan, but very much saiyan-like… And he told me there’s no pain to it… It’s just… Freeing… So freeing it’s maddening. That’s probably why you people lose control when you turn. But worry not. I’m with you and I won’t let you get hurt.” he said, with a caring tone. Then, after another brief moment, he started floating.
”Let’s get going. To the fortuneteller’s desert. There no one will be hurt when you turn. And you can go all out. Let go of the rage you have in your heart.” he invited her.
