The Triad was truly a state of the art vessel that had been crafted by Demalia and her parents. It already could carry four people and had thrusters that made it faster then most other ships. It cut down the amount of time it took to hop from planet to planet by a significant amount. And of course, it had the gravity machine that she had built in it. They originally built it to test the affect higher gravity had on materials to see if they could handle harsher gravitational forces, among other things. Demalia was now using it for a completely different reason though.
She discovered that training under more intense gravity could make one stronger. While she did have the sense to start on the lowest setting, she sorely underestimated how strong the forces would be on her body. She was stronger than the average Tuffle, so she figured she could handle it, even while wearing training weights. Unfortunately the high gravity had forced her to her knees. Demalia’s arms were shaking, desperately trying to push her up. Demalia managed to get her knees off the ground, grunting with the effort of trying to lift her body up. She looked up at the control panel above, desperately hoping that she could make it up there.
How could I have miscalculated so badly? Of course the weights would make this much harder to endure. They reduce my physical strength by a considerable amount. So of course they would contribute to the forces pushing down on me. If I don’t learn how to deal with this weight though, then I’m never going to get stronger!
Demalia grit her teeth, managing to bend her upper body over the control panel. Fortunately it was designed so that her parents could easily access it, so it wasn’t too night off the ground. Slowly Demalia extended her arm, her hand shaking as she fought to move against the intense forces she was contending with. Demalia slammed her palm against a red button, and immediately the gravity returned to normal. Demalia panted with exhaustion, unable to move after what her body had just been through. When she was able to move, she practically lunged at a chair near the control panel, very nearly tripping over her own feet. She grabbed the arms of the chair, turning around and managing to sit in it. She slumped in it, breathing heavily as she wiped sweat off her brow.
Well, that’s another lesson learned the hard way. I did the calculations correctly and put in almost everything into account. Except for the lack of real world experience affecting things. You can do all the calculations and planning you want, but if you don’t understand what experiencing it means, then it won’t do you any good. I knew the exact values of the gravity and the weights, and thought I could handle it. The numbers themselves weren’t off. I overestimated how much my body could take. I won’t make that mistake again.
Demalia spent a good solid ten minutes in that chair, recuperating and thinking about how she should proceed. She definitely needed to get stronger, that was for sure. Although she was first going to have to get her body used to more intense gravity so that she could accelerate her training properly. She also had to learn to suppress her energy. A brilliant idea burst into life in Demalia’s head. She turned her scouter on and put it on the control panel facing her. It beeped, showing her power level on display. There was a way she could prepare her body more for intense gravity, as well as take care of something else that she needed to master.
If I sit right next to the control panel, then I can put myself through higher gravity with a minimal risk. I can always just turn off the artificial gravity if it gets too intense for me to handle. I’m going to work on completely suppressing my Ki now. It’s something I’ve got to work on if I hope to explore space as safely as I can.
Demalia reached out, and grabbed a bottle of water that she had left on the control panel earlier. She took a sip of it before placing it back on the counter. Demalia still had yet to fully master being able to control her Ki. It was something that she was going to have to get down though. Not only would it allow her to control her own power better, but she needed to learn how to hide her signature in order to take full advantage of one of her ship's features. The Triad had a cloaking device capable of making it undetectable by others. Although people could still sense her power level, since it wouldn’t hide that signature. Once she was able to control her signature though, she would be able to come and go anywhere undetected if she wanted to.
Demalia moved her hand so that it was hovering above the gravity controls. Despite positioning herself so that she could easily abort her training if she had to, she still was a bit weary towards turning on the gravity controls again. She didn't have anyone there who could help her if things went wrong, so if she screwed up again, she could end up in pretty big trouble if things did go south yet again. Demalia shook her head, taking a deep breath to calm her racing nerves. No, she couldn’t afford to show doubt now. She had to get stronger, or she wouldn’t stand a chance out in space. She slammed her hand down on the button, then quickly moved and sat up straight in her chair. She did have the sense to have a delay in the startup of the gravity machine. Demalia gripped both arms of the chair tightly, preparing herself for what was about to come.
Suddenly the artificial gravity activated, pressing down against Demalia hard in the chair. The pressure was still intense for her, but she wasn’t struggling to stand up like before. So it was a little bit easier for her to deal with. Demalia closed her eyes, focusing on her energy and trying to lower it. She would know that she had succeeded when her scouter no longer registered as there. She had made some progress, but wouldn’t consider things a success until she suppressed her Ki completely. This was how Demalia spent the next few hours. Training herself at a rate that rivaled the enthusiasm of a Saiyan. She only stopped when the scouter couldn't detect her anymore.
