Deep within the confines of her mansion, Demalia was working away in a chamber of her laboratory. She was sitting at a table in a windowless room, with only a desk lamp illuminating things. She found it easier to focus on the task at hand if she focused things solely on her work station. Which was cluttered with boxes, wires, and jars and containers containing various chemicals and substances. She had a mixing bowl out on the table, and was pouring a powder into a metal cylinder.
<Alright, that should do it! This should be strong enough to sound, but not kill fairly strong opponents. It’s not something I should use on fellow Tuffles though. Most of them wouldn’t be able to endure it. God I hope it doesn't misfire in public. I'm sure I got this right though... I think...>
Demalia began screaming the top of the cylinder on, her thoughts turning to the Illusive Man. It was likely he was a fairly strong individual. As such, Demalia needed to prepare herself for him. She was going to stock up on supplies and learn how to fight properly. She didn’t like the idea of violence, but there was an inherent risk in tracking down someone as dangerous as the Illusive Man. At the very least she would learn enough to be able to hold her own in a serious fight.

The Red-Haired Kaioshin was fairly new to this Universe - having only been born for a short time. But in her time and reign as the Southern Kaioshin she had found herself fairly at peace with the status of the worlds below. Namek had been very kind from her brief visits and much of the Southern Galaxy was peaceful. Truthfully it seemed she had the easiest Quadrant of the Universe to watch over and guide with her natural born wisdom - which sometimes left the Goddess with some free time. She had heard about Onato's conversation with a certain mortal of interest in Universe Six. The Tuffles as a whole were an interesting race, seemingly growing powerful in the known Universe. It was estimated one of them might even surpass Onato himself should they continue to grow at such a rate.
It was time for Aurora to meet this mysterious mortal. She was bored after all- and this might serve as an amusing distraction from her. Surely Onato-sama wouldn't be too upset with her. "Hello? Can you hear me? Is this thing on?" she called out to her, trying to contact her with telepathy from the Other World. Truthfully she knew it would probably work, but it also served as an amusing ice breaker when contacting mortals for the first time.
Up in Heaven the purple skinned Goddess stood straight - her eyes closed as her mind focused intently on the Tuffle. Her voice was rather strong, a lovely soprano echoing out into her mind. "I heard you've already spoken to one of us already. I hope Onato didn't make a bad first impression. Not ALL of us are grumpy mean things," Aurora spoke with a nod, though she forgot that she wouldn't be able to see her.
"My name is Aurora. I am the Southern Kaioshin. What is your name, little dove?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. The Goddess waited for her answer, hoping to be able to address her by her proper name before they continued further in the conversation.
Using Dimensional Telepathy [WC: 342]
Thread PL: 60,000 OOC Note: Aurora is not actually here but is telepathically contacting Demalia from the Upper Worlds for the reasons listed above..
“Eep!” Demalia’s explosive fell to the surface of the table, and started to roll away. The Tuffle hybrid still had the presence of mind to grab it and set it upright. It wasn’t armed yet, but she didn’t want it falling off the table all the same. Demalia flung off her glasses and slid on her scouter, turning it on and trying to find the source of the voice. There were no other powers in her vicinity though. Demalia knew someone was communicating to her telepathically, an acquaintance of Onatto if she was to be believed. Gulping, Demalia did her best to calm her racing mind, and reached out to this presence.
<”I.. I can hear you fine your… um… omnipotence? Onato and I had a um… slight disagreement. It was nothing more then that though, um…. Aurora… madame.. I mean Goddess! Goddess. Oh! I’m Demalia. Demalia is my name.”>
Demalia was panicking despite the Kaioshin’s assurances. Her face had gone completely pale, her body shivering with fear.
<Calm down Demalia. She won’t be able to hear your thoughts unless if you direct them at her. You think more clearly in here anyway. There’s no such thing as a God, despite what they keep telling you. Play to her vanity though, just like you did with Onato. This calm demeanor is likely a way to catch you off guard. Some kind of strange bad cop good cop routine. Just calm down and try to get a hold on yourself. You’ve got to pull it together the next time you talk with her.>
Demalia wasn’t aware of all the abilities the Kaioshin had. If she did, maybe she would have tried speaking out loud instead. Or typing notes to herself on her computer. She thought her thoughts would remain hidden as long as she didn’t direct her thoughts at Aurora. Unfortunately, she was mistaken.

Aurora giggled aloud at Demalia’s reaction. Her introduction had been a mind-blowing success! She loved to mess with mortals a little bit like this - the purple Goddess finding it to be one of her guilty pleasures. It was harmless fun, but she was sure Onato-sama would scold her if he knew. Aurora was still getting used to her powers. She was not yet able to see what was going down in the world below unfortunately, just merely call out telepathically. She would need to learn a whole other technique for that.
Aurora raised an eyebrow at Demalia’s greeting. Her voice seemed so shaky… as if she was trying to be very careful with her diction around the Kaioshin. There was a sense of nervousness - was this girl afraid of her? Well that seemed quite silly. Onato really must have made quite an impression on the poor girl. Thankfully - Aurora had a much more gentle presence about her. As long as she was not angered then everything would be perfectly lovely and their conversation should be rather productive. The words that Demalia threw out… Omnipotence… Madam...Goddess.. She was being way too formal for the Kaioshin. “You may just call me Aurora, Demalia…,” Aurora stated calmly, her tone rich with warmth and sincerity behind every syllable. She did not care for such terms of gratification. Though she was a Kaioshin - that merely meant she was a guide for the Mortals to listen to as they made their way in the Universe. Her power was not absolute nor was her rule. Such was the purpose of their free will and all.
As Aurora listened to the girl’s thoughts.. She could feel her fear and her confusion. It was clear she was one of those “Scientists” that refused to believe in the existence of heavenly influence on the physical world. She could understand their skepticism. It was clear that Demalia believed she could deceive the redheaded Kaioshin with praise and false pleasantries. Truthfully those things actually annoyed Aurora - as she preferred honesty above all. But considering this girl had spoken to Onato… she would forgive this behavior. That old coot had a knack for causing as much trouble as he could fix..
“I would calm your thoughts, Demalia. There is much fear in you. You must understand that we Kaioshin are not all the same. Like people on your world- each person has their own personality, beliefs, and ambitions. You are not the same as any one person on your planet, just as I am not the same as any Kaioshin before me or presently existing.
Onato is of a different mindset than I am. You don’t need to treat me with feared respect, just because he himself expects such things from you. Onato has had… his own history and has lived a lot longer than I have.
Those things have shaped him into the Kaioshin he is today. He treats himself as an authoritative presence who must be respected and followed. I see myself as more of a Guide. A teacher. You can be at ease around me... I myself would much rather have an honest conversation with you. Deceptions and false pleasantries will only hinder us from having any real communication…,” she warned, though she tried to minimize the confrontational harshness of her usual responses to these types of issues. She was trying hard not to frighten Demalia. “Now... onto what I meant to discuss with you... I am curious why it is he contacted you. It’s rare for Onato to directly make contact with a mortal. He sees himself above such things...
Can you explain to me why he was interested in you? What did you two talk about?”
Demalia jerked back in her chair, slamming against the cushion. The chair toppled over, taking Demalia with it as it slammed onto the floor. She let out a small yelp as she toppled off the chair and rolled onto the floor. The Tuffle shakily climbed to her feet, her eyes darting around the room once again. The fall would have hurt a little bit before, but now that kind of thing was more embarrassing than it was painful with how strong she had become. She opened a drawer and got out there appeared to be some kind of scanner. She turned it on and sweeped the room. It came up negative though. <My place isn’t bugged. This Kaioshin had the right response to everything I was thinking. It was a little too spot on in fact. What if…..can she read minds? Telepathic beings are more likely to have that kind of ability. There’s only one way to find out for sure.>
“Okay um… Aurora then. I don’t know where you got the idea that I’m deceiving you from. Yeah, that’s the impression I got from talking to Onato. He wanted to know whyI was training so hard to get stronger. My power is far beyond the average Tuffle after all. I told them why I was training, and the conversation picked up from there. We talked about a lot of things. I learned quite a bit that day. It was a pleasant conversation.”
Of course, she was leaving some stuff out. The rest of what happened was in her mind of course. It was time to see whether or not Aurora could read her mind.
<Except for the part where he greeted me by teleporting into my garage and demanding to know why I got stronger. When I asked him perfectly reasonable questions for the situation, he went on about how demons like me always defied the Gods and then slapped me. He then went on and on from there, saying things like Demons had no place in this dimension. The whole conversation hated me, for the blood that runs through my veins. Is that how the Gods do things? Judge people by what they are as opposed to their actions?>
Even in her own mind, very clear tones echoed around in her head. She was clearly bitter and resentful of the treatment she had received. There was still traces of fear too, despite Aurora's comforting tone. She was still afraid of Onato, since he was so much stronger then her and could pop in at any moment. Not to mention there were some terrifying implications as to what her fate would be if she died. If the afterlife did exist, would she go to hell for being a demon?

Aurora let out a loud giggle telepathically as she saw Demalia’s rather clumsy fall. She found the response charming and amusing. Though the Kaioshin did have to admit that she was rather easily pleased. It would appear that Demalia was rather startled by the Kaioshin’s rather informative answers. The concept of someone who could read her thoughts to this degree must have been new to her. Though Aurora did not believe that skill to be limited to the Kaioshin. Though she supposed only they could reach her from the Other World.
Aurora grinned as the creature seemed so skeptical. This little test of hers was amusing. Though while Demalia spoke - some things came to light that Aurora found very interesting. Onato was threatened by her training? But her rise to power? Surely the Grand Kaioshin realized if he was threatened that he should get off his ass and start training again. Of course a girl overpowering him was also hurtful to his pride, she thought to herself with a huff. He’d get a piece of her mind the next time they spoke. “Tipping the line of corruption always… aren’t you Onato-sama,” she thought to herself with a sigh, though Demalia would not be able to hear it.
It hurt even worse when she had to listen to Demalia’s account of the Grand Kaioshin abusing and harming her. The stuff about the Demons especially hit her hard. She knew the story behind that, and though she understood his actions.. She could not find herself able to approve. “I’m sorry… Demalia,” the Kaioshin said softly inside the girl’s thoughts. “I wish I could justify his behavior… as I mentioned before - all of us Kaioshin are as separate as you are from any of your people. Each of us is shaped a different way on account of our experiences and our own predispositions…,” she began to explain, as she crossed her arms tightly. Black Eyes staring upward at the heavenly skies. “I cannot explain his past for it is not my tale to tell. But I can say that until a Kaioshin is assigned to your quadrant I will maintain watch of your planet. I will make sure he does not repeat this for the future. He is technically my superior, but I will not allow him to terrorize the people of the Universe!
And no. It is not we who decide where souls go in death. We have some sway ,if we choose to intervene, on who goes where. But it is not enforced. Actions, Morals, Even Dreams. These shape the path for your soul. Not your race, or who your parents were… Onato… he just.. Has an ancient grudge against your Demon Blood. I’m afraid I can’t say more than that…,” she explained in vivid detail. Aurora sighed. She really had to focus on her training more. She had to accept the possibility that one of these days… Onato would go too far and allow himself to be corrupted. Who knows what kind of chaos he would bring on Universe Six should that dreadful fear ever come to pass. “Strive to be good. Help your people. Make this Universe a better place, and you have my word that you will be rewarded for it on the day of your death, whenever that should be. Don’t let yourself be intimidated by the likes of us, for this is little influence we are supposed to have on you. We’re guides, we’re teachers. We’re not executioners, no matter what Onato may try to have you believe,” she said confidently, before a small smile appeared on her face. She wished that Demalia could feel it, but given their dimensional distance it was impossible. “Thank you for the information, Demalia. I hope to talk to you again someday. Perhaps it’ll even be in person,” she said cheerfully before severing the link. She had things to do, now that she knew what Onato had been up to. As long as she was around, Onato would find that he couldn’t do as he pleased. Though he was her senior, and her boss, she wouldn’t let him demean the position of Kaioshin with fear!
<You can actually read my mind?! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for saying all of that!>
Demalia was suddenly in a panic, her mind becoming a vortex of incomprehensible statements trying to form into coherent thoughts. This person could enter her safest of havens and know what she was thinking. The Tuffle had no idea how to handle this, no way from preventing her mind from being read.
Fortunately for Demalia, Aurora was very understanding about what she had been thinking. She told her that Onato had some kind of ancient grudge against her demonic heritage. Just how old was that guy?
Apparently they had a little sway over where you went after you died, but for the most part it was determined by what you did in life. Which was what to be expected. Demalia reached up and rubbed her headband, which concealed the horns growing up from her head.
<I’ve done nothing wrong… I can’t change what I am. I’m not responsible for what my ancestors did. It must have been horrible though for Onato to treat me the way he did.>
Demalia listened to everything the Kaioshin said to her. Aurora seemed to be a good person who had her best interests at heart. If she was willing to defy her superior if she had to, then she was sincere in everything she was saying. Besides, this person just sounded so gentle and kind.
<Thank you, um, Aurora. I'm trying to wrap my head around all of this still. I already planned on making the universe a better place. You-ve made me able to sleep a bit easier. And um.. come over whenever you’d like. I don't turn away visitors.>
The mental link broke, leaving Demalia alone in her lab. She looked down at her hands, raising them to eye level and examining them.
<I’m part demon, but I grew up a Tuffle. I’ll make up for what my demonic ancestors did. The afterlife… it exists…>
Demalia sat isn her chair for a long time, her mind still trying to process all the information she had gotten today. It was very tough to wrap her head around it all. She stayed there in her lab, alone with her jumbled mind.
