It felt like weeks, perhaps a month or more since Volta arrived on Sadal. He had explored the various nooks and crannies around the planet, avoiding the cities the best he could. Volta had still yet to grow accustomed to the species that inhabited this particular planet. They were boorish and particularly annoying, Although he had only encountered the three, perhaps he was being a tad hard on the Saiyans, after all, they still didn't quite fit the descriptions he had been given in his notes from the archives on the Metalman homeworld.
Volta was making his way through the wilderness once more, sticking close to the roads, but not directly following them to avoid any unwanted interactions with civilians. He was lucky that the beings he had run into were not the sort to freak out easily... but the metalman was sure that this was not going to be the case with every hug of activity he found himself in, rather just a case by case fact. Except for that encounter with Ezra, the poor demon launched himself towards the sky when Volta accidentally scared him. Even though there was no intent on the fact there, it was entirely Volta's fault.
"Where was it this road was supposed to lead me to again?"
Volta spoke to himself as he passed through the foliage, the trees encapsulating him as he did so. The grass beneath his feet rubbed gently against the metalman's cold exterior and the jovial sounds of nature at its finest brought a happy attitude to Volta, it had been what he yearned for on the metalman homeworld, but alas the planet he hailed from was merely a landscape coated by the materials he himself was made from, all his kind born of their home.
Taking a look around, Volta decided perhaps it was time for him to rest, pulling his notepad from his head along with a pencil, the metalman let his third, support leg loose as to rest as he prepped the notepad before him and began to write, taking notes on the plant life and animals, Sadal had already begun to take up a multitude of pages in his notebook but the planet was teeming with life that it deserved this much attention on its own. Perhaps he would need to get a new book or notepad when he finally leaves Sadal for wherever he lands next.
The Saiyan would whistle a bit to himself as he walked through the woods, going on patrol a bit to look for anything suspicious. In all honesty, he didn't expect to find much, it was more just another peaceful day for the Peacekeeper. He wasn't too sure what he wanted to do with this sort of alone time out in the woods like this, taking a fancy to the scenery like he did when he took a walk with his girlfriend. It was just so peaceful, he wouldn't take Sadal for granted ever. His little joyous tune would slowly come to a stop as he noticed something out in the woods. It was quite curious looking, so he decided it warranted checking out. To sate both his own curiosities and to make do with his actual job.
Slowly, the man would walk up to the Metalman, not quite sure what it was as he had never seen one before. He actually thought it was an unmanned machine of some sort, expecting it to not actually be sentient in any way. "I wonder who left this here... is it within my job to put this in the lost and found or something?" he would mumble to himself as he would set his hand on the rear exterior of the metalman, before noticing the notepad and pencil on its front half. "Eh...?" Rutaba would let out a bit of a confused sound as he noticed what it was doing. Was it.... was it programmed to do this?!
He wouldn't take a hostile approach for now, as it seemed to be doing mostly harmless stuff at the moment. With a bit of a curious maneuver, he would walk around to the front of the Metalman, looking it up and down and just staring sort of blankly, before pointing. "Is... is there a man inside of you? Or are you an android?" the curiosity in the Saiyan's voice was brimming, as he would wave a bit in front of the constructs supposed face. He had no idea of a race like this even existing, so it was safe to say that he thought this was a new type of android that somebody had made and left out here, it was the only explanation his mind could come up with for the time being. Passed that, he would make no attempt to interact with the metalman, rather trying to see if it would respond in kind. [PL: 54,719] [HW: 13,680]
Volta had taken a bit of a rest from his notes, unaware to the lifeform that was approaching him from yonder. Rather closing his eyes for a moment to take in the scenery and the sounds of the natural world around him. For a planet brimming with apes of mild intelligence, the untapped and unrefined landscape was still quite calming, it was the one thing that kept Volta from lashing out violently on that 'Shiro' he had encountered before. The poor saiyan hick had narry an idea as to the definition of a smatter of words he spoke to her after all.
The Metalman's magma nearly went cold as he felt the hand graze his steely exterior, breaking his moment of contemplation and well... listening. Taking a moment to collect his thoughts before making a movement, Volta thought as to what, or rather who could and would be interrupting his time here, alone, in the wooded parts of Sadal, merely a hop, skip, and a jump from a major roadway. Actually, as he thought that over, perhaps he hadn't picked quite the best spot to rest himself if he wanted to avoid saiyan, or otherwise, interaction. Letting out a mental groan he opened his eyes.
Bright teal-green light flooded the area in front of Volta, revealing any secrets not greatly concealed to all. Retracting his support leg back into his body, Volta turned to face his trespasser, the being having the general appearance of a saiyan, but there was something about them that drew his attention... perhaps it was the way they composed themselves. It reminded him of that saiyan patrolwoman who guided him to the capital city, was this being within the same vein as her?
"I'll answer all of your questions with a question. You ever seen a 'Metalman' kid?
Volta took a moment to sarcastically 'reveal' himself with his only arm as he spoke in a rather monotone and annoyed voice. Letting the being aware of the fact that this encounter was not the most pleasant for him. After this charade Volta would rest himself once more, standing idly while he thought of what else to say. The infinite possibilities flooded his mechanical mind, but nothing felt right at this time, perhaps he should wait for the being to make their case before he said any more to them, positive or negative. The thought of 'naw' crossed his mind as his mouth opened once more, revealing a set of sharp, silver-grey teeth lining the top and bottom of his cavernous mouth.
"Would you happen to be one of the Saiyans this planet has the 'pleasure' of hosting? Most of your kinda have not given me any reason to stick around lately... with the exception of maybe two. but that is a tough maybe."
The Metalman spoke, recounting his encounters with the few Saiyans he had met so far and how one encounter was... interesting while the others within themselves were quite the mixed bag. Perhaps this one would change things.
The Peacekeeper's eyes would flash open as he saw the construct begin to move and groan like it was feeling all of this, or was sentient. It most likely was to some capacity, if it was an android, but the part of its body that looked more like a face told more than he could understand. Once it began to speak as well, the Saiyan was quite convinced this was at least unoperated, but it just asked a question itself. Rutaba's eyes blinked a few times at the tone it was giving to him, rubbing the back of his head giving a bit of an apologetic look. "I'm sorry for intruding, er... sir...? But I haven't seen or heard of a Metalman before." the Peacekeeper felt fairly bad for interrupting whatever this construct was doing with itself, but he honestly had no idea that he was actually coming upon anything more than something left in the woods for a bit.
Once more, the Saiyan's hands just ended up rubbing the back of his head hearing what this supposed Metalman had been through regarding his own race, just being able to give a firm nod after it spoke. "I am a Saiyan, yes. I apologize greatly for the actions of any Saiyan's who have wronged you. On behalf of the Sadal Defense Force, I promise a good number of us would rather see you welcomed here." the Saiyan dropped to give the Metalman a bit of a bow, trying to show him a bit of respect. It wasn't his place to apologize for the actions of others most likely, but anything that tarnished the name of his race had to be shut down, especially if it was self-inflicted by the Saiyan's themselves. He had great pride in his people and their defense force that was set up for centuries, he felt despite their genetics they had the capacity for good.
Feeling he had given enough time to his own apology towards the Metalman, the Saiyan would raise his head to stare at it once again, still unsure if this so-called Metalman race even had any sort of pronouns to use for them. After a few more seconds passed, the Saiyan started to scan around them, just to make sure there was nobody else really around to jump in on them if they were to talk alone. "If I can do anything to make up for the interruption, feel free to ask. I'm a member of the Defense Force, so it is sort of my job to assist people while out on patrol. Be it for casual tasks or to help someone in danger. I feel like I owe you double for getting in the way of whatever you were doing." the saiyan's eyes began to visibly scan the metalman once more, taking notice of its mouth that it opened up so wide. Was that mouth even for anything aside from attention to detail for this race? Could it even eat...? If it did, what would it eat? Rutaba quickly shook that thought away from his mind as he decided to stand up fully in a more prepared pose for whatever the metalman could need to be done if it even could ask him of anything. That was, until he thought of one more thing to poke at. "Right... what... is a metalman by the way? Oh and uh, the name is Rutaba." his eyes blinked a couple more times as he asked, quite curious on the subject as he realized he practically bypassed it when saying he never saw one before, and even forgot to introduce himself, he didn't want to be rude.
All Volta could let out was a pained sigh as yet another of these Saiyans had not heard of his kind. It was like walking into a store and recognizing everything, but no one knowing what kind of currency you use. It bothered Volta some, but he was becoming rather used to it at this point, after all, he knew that his kinda had not left Metallica for quite a few centuries at the least, they were likely to have been forgotten after all. Perhaps it was Volta's job to finally change this fact.
"Your kind has less of a bother or annoyance so far, but more rather... a disappointment. I came to Sadal first expecting to see powerful warriors from a race built to fight. But so far none of your kind have lived up to my records. All of you being roughly a tenth of the power of the Saiyans of old."
Volta's words resonated coldly through the trees as he rose his hand to his mouth as if to imitate a yawning motion. The metal appendage mere centimeters from the sharp silver teeth that sat within his maw. While Volta was completely incapable of sensing powers like many others were, he had given the saiyan a rough estimate based on their surprise to how much he weighed. Based on this alone he assumed that the saiyans he had encountered were nowhere near as powerful as the ones that history had not forgotten.
What intrigued volta, however, was that fact that this particular saiyan claimed to be part of a defense force, much like that other he had run into some time ago. However, the difference here is that this one had an air of confidence to him like he was hiding a power from the metalman. A form of composure in a way. This highly intrigued the metalman, whose thoughts were then broken by the saiyan's curiosity into his kinda, this was the first being on this entire planet that inquired into the fact. It actually excited the metalman some, he finally got to talk about his superior kind for once rather than discuss these fleshy sacks of meat.
"A Metalman is what I am, a being composed entirely of metal and fueled by the magma of the planet we originate from, Metallica, based ion Space Sector 66950. It is a planet composed entirely of metal and rock, we are born of our home and many of us either return to the planet willingly or like myself venture the stars. I, Volta, am a scholar of my kind and I seek to update our logs on every species and planet in the universe as they are centuries out dated. Our kind does not age unlike you fleshies, so I can persist in my quest to a near infinity if I so wish. That, it a Metalman.
Volta allowed his words to ring for a moment before returning to his stance he had beforehand. He wove a tale of his kind that he hoped explained everything the saiyan wanted to know. Volta was curious as to how the saiyan would respond and would stand by quietly and wait.
Rutaba's eyes began to blink slowly as the metalman let out such a pained-sounding sigh, its words afterward causing him to rub the back of his head. "I uh... I do apologize for our... disappointment? What sort of power were you expecting exactly? Perhaps I could change that?" the Saiyan sounded kind of bewildered, not sure what exactly the Metalman was expecting out of the warrior race but perhaps that was something he could remedy. He'd pull out his scouter, remembering the last time he ran a self-diagnostic on his power progress. Then again, pulling out numbers like that meant nothing in the long run. What if this metalman came from a place that used a power scaling that had larger numbers overall? He'd drop that mindset right then and there realizing maybe it'd be better to show the Metalman first hand sometime.
The moment the metalman began to speak of his own kind, Rutaba's attention focused directly onto his words, trying to make sure to learn something from this rather than letting it go in one ear and out the other. Perhaps his race was bred for combat and fighting but that didn't mean he couldn't try to learn of the other races in the universe. First up, the Metalman would talk about how a Metalman was a man made of Metal, intriguing. He'd nod very firmly. "Simple, yet it has a nice ring to it!" he'd smile as he said this. Of course, Metalman wasn't the most creative name out there when it came to what the race was, but it was still quite fitting and sounded good to roll off of the tongue, no complaints there. Furthermore, they were fueled by the magma of their planet? That sounded pretty cool.
The Metalman kept talking a bit about his home, like where it was in the universe, its name, as well as how the race themselves were born of the planet itself. It honestly sounded like something out of a work of fiction, a race of robots being born from a metal planet, it sounded incredible though even that was an understatement. "I see... so just by existing you are bringing a bit of home wherever you go when traveling like yourself? Seems symbolic to me." Rutaba gave the metalman another little smile. He was trying to be kind and nice about their origin, but it actually did sound absolutely fascinating. He wasn't one for all of this stuff himself, but just hearing about it like from Demalia and others made him sort of happy. Demalia would probably have a field day with these people in fact!
At last, this Metalman, Volta, would speak a bit about himself as well. The Saiyan's eyes widened a little bit as he heard about his quest. "That sounds like a very noble adventure indeed for your people. I am sure they will be quite fascinated when you return to them someday with the freshly updated data, especially if you can do it as long as you want." he rubbed the back of his head as he said this now, sort of surprised that he was undertaking such a monumental task on his own and not getting others to help him out. The universe was a very wide place brimming with races and worlds to discover. Perhaps time was truly all that was needed for such an endeavor, but it still sounded daunting. "In any case, thank you a lot for teaching me about your people. I love learning new things about the different races out there, I feel like I meet a new one every month or so and it's pretty incredible. Though none have quite the detail yours does." at this point, the Saiyan would let out a very soft chuckle as he realized he had flown entirely off of the original subject he was going to go on with the metalman. He had been consumed by that little history lesson! But now, he had to get back on track.
"Well then, Volta? For teaching me about your race, I'll offer myself up as a member of the Saiyan race. I don't want my race to be known as a group of fighters who have fallen from grace to mere weaklings. As such, I want to see if I can push past that disappointment of yours, as well as see if I live up to those records of yours!" with that said, he'd push his fist against the palm of his other hand, showing that he was ready to have a bit of a spar if need be. Seeing as they were out in the middle of the first as well they could easily leave others out of the fight to make sure it was just between the two of them. That was, of course, if the Metalman even wanted to participate in that. "Or, if not that, is there any other way I can show you what I can do?" at that, he sounded more curious. He didn't even know what the metalman did to test the power of his race so far. Was he already judged to be in that weaker category? For now, he'd just wait to see what the Metalman responded with first.
Volta pondered the Saiyan for a bit, looking him over. The Metalman was not a great one at determining the power of a being without some sort of instrument, but this one seemed confident enough as it was, perhaps they would prove far more interesting than the others he had run into, who on their own were not exceedingly impressive.
"How about a spar, I haven't had a good fight since I came to this planet. I have to stretch my joints somehow after all, and you seem confident in your abilities."
Volta clenched his fist, popping the metallic joints in his hands before rotating his hand some and prepping it in place. Reeling his third leg in all the way, the blue in his eyes seemed to flare with a fiery determination, ready to see what this Saiyan could offer him, should they accept the offer for a spar. Volta personally hoped for the opportunity, to see what gaps in his data existed, there must be something that has changed on this planet since his people last recorded them after all.
Without a doubt, the Saiyan's blood began to stir as he was told that a spar would be a good way to go. Furthermore, this Metalman hadn't had a good fight since he came to the planet. While he wasn't so sure about a metalman stretching its joints, at the very least he'd put up as good a fight as he could without getting out of hand. The metalman commented on his confidence, where he would give a very firm nod before getting into a very popular battle stance on his planet, the one of the Sadal Fighting Academy.
"I'm one of the stronger Saiyans of the Defense Force so if I don't prove the might that my race still holds, very few ever could." Rutaba said that with a very firm tone, but with his weighted clothing pushing him down it was very possible that his bark wouldn't hold up to his actual bite. Of course, he could drop them but then the spar wouldn't be as useful a learning experience for him. Hopefully what he had at the moment would be enough to at least prove his worth to the metalman.
With that said, Rutaba's lips moved into a smile as he saw his opponent get ready for the spar as well, the determination lighting up in his eyes making it all the better. Even the Peacekeeper was getting all fired up over this. "I'll allow you the first attack, I am as ready as I can be." he said this with a softer tone, his feet sliding across the dirt in a bit more of a prepared fashion as he dropped into the battle ready stance.
