Loureil Mountainprowl "who needs ki when bullets do the job just fine?"
|
Personality
Loureil is a rough and tough wolfman, who isn't afraid to throw around his weight (or more appropriately, his weapons' weights) to make a point. He's somewhat vulgar in speaking, especially when angry or surprised, and he tends to put on a standoffish demeanor to other people around him - especially if they are a fellow Canidite. Though he isn't about to kill wily-nily, he isn't afraid to rise to a challenge or pick on someone- eager to defend his image of a tough, hardened bandit.
However, stroke his ego just right, and he tends to let down his guard - having an appreciation for those with shared interests in tinkering and guns. He has a bit of insecurity in his martial prowess, and thus compensates a lot in his weapons - liking the feel of a good gun in his hands. The smell of gunpowder, metal, and oil appeal to him as well - associating the smells with tinkering, upkeep, finding the activities soothing to him when he's angry or frustrated.
Overall, though he's able to appreciate time to himself where he can think, sort out his thoughts, and enjoy peace and quiet... He sometimes finds himself lonely, longing for companionship and camaraderie, people he could call his brothers and sisters in arms. The idea of associating himself with a pack of other Canidites that wouldn't understand his interest in guns and swords makes him balk, but if he found someone who could appreciate the smell of gunpowder and the kick of a gun, well... He may seem competitive and huffy, but he'd probably take the opportunity to join them in a heartbeat.

Backstory
Loureil was borne on the Canidite homeworld, with an older brother and their mother watching over them. Much like any budding pup, he was raised to be a strong warrior, and to carry on the traditions of his people - but unlike his brother, who took to it easily, Loureil had a little more trouble. He was a bit runtish muscle-wise, always lagged behind in practice and training, and tended to have his head in the clouds as a child - which led to him feeling inadequate in being unable to surpass any of his peers.
As he grew up, he oftentimes felt out of place among his pack-mates, and was sometimes teased for being weaker compared to them - even if he was one of the taller Canidites. This led to him feeling bitter towards others, and towards his peoples' ways, but he lacked the drive or strength to change it. And so, instead of remaining where he felt like a fish out of water - he left as soon as he was of age, and had the zeni to set off on his own.
In setting off, Loureil became a wandering mercenary-slash-bandit, doing odd jobs and picking on weaker foes to get by. It was in this that he found interest in swordsmanship and gun-slinging, and would gradually learn to pick both up - with a bit of tinkering on the side to keep his weapons spick and span. He quickly took to it, his previously underappreciated wit shining thru as he experimented and tweaked his weapons to make them perfect; his favorite and prized possession being an old handy shotgun he nicknamed Leadhowl.
Since then, he's been working on making a name for himself, traveling and picking up jobs or scavenging for new parts wherever he goes. He does secretly long for a group he can belong in, but still bears some contempt for other Canidites - and he bears suspicions that he's being tracked down by one of his family members. For what reason he's unsure, though he fears the possibility of him turning his back on his people, or his banditry or more questionable jobs, catching up to him.
