Dalion "Do you think that there's a way, that we could one day live in a universe, where there isn't anymore suffering?"
|
Personality
Dalion, to begin, is a man of two genuine but distinct sides - although most will only ever see one side of him. This side in question is that of a polite, mild mannered priest - a man who is seeking to grow as a person, and tends to be a bit introverted, but is otherwise friendly and willing to converse with others around him. He is visibly devoted to his goddess, Din, and has an appreciation for reading, flowers, and quiet moments in a field or forest. Additionally, he has always shown interest in the art of glassblowing - though has never personally pursued it. Sure, perhaps he's a little eccentric and overenthusiastic for his worship of Din sometimes, but he otherwise seems to be a good person.
However, his other side is something else- his eccentrics showing a more malevolent side to it. His worship of Din is obsessive, and he shows an almost dangerous fascination with fire, as well as with a more darker side to his interpretations of Din; of her fire not representing only life regrowing from the ashes and creation like most Konatsians worship her for, but also the death that creates the ashes and destruction, and the cycle between the two sides.
He has a faint bitterness towards other Konatsians both due to them generally favoring the more positive side to Din, and his poor upbringing. He is jealous of those with happier home lives, those who take a loving mother and father for granted. And finally, he believes that the universe should be reset- set back to null to purge its flaws and the evil that lurks within in holy fire, so that it can be reborn anew from the ashes - brighter than before. However, he is not outright malicious to random people on the street; he does not believe in causing suffering just for the sake of it, and if he can fulfill this belief of his without taking a single life, he will.
Although, Dalion - even with his eccentrics and obsessions - is not an idiot. He recognizes that he is nowhere near the strongest - at least not yet - and that if he were to act upon his deepest desires now, he would attract the wrong attention from stronger individuals who 'do not understand'. Not that he even has the means now, as he is - though Dalion is always looking. But for now, he'll keep his head down, and continue to be the good, kind-hearted man that others - and he himself - believe himself to be. It is not necessarily false, though certainly not the whole picture of who Dalion truly is.
As far as strategy goes, Dalion is very much a ‘jack of all trades’; though he favors slinging magic from afar if he can help it. Otherwise though, he is not afraid to get up close and personal with his rapier, and will sometimes use his magic to enhance his blade mid-fight. He is generally much more keen on talking people into seeing his way, his side of things, though. When casting magic, he seems to have a habit of reciting prayers and scripture.

Backstory
Dalion, as a child, had been born to a Saiyan father and a Konatsian mother. His father was a retired mercenary - he was quiet, and perhaps had a bit of a difficulty with emotions, but otherwise meant well. His mother was a Priestess to the flame goddess Din, and was headstrong and highly devout - prone to sticking to her guns, often to a fault. The three of them all lived in a quiet, religious town on a remote planet - the town's population primarily being Konatsians who believed in Din as well.
When he was born, Dalion had been believed by his mother - and much of the town - to be a gift from Din, or at least to be special in some way. This notion came from both his somewhat unusual hair + fur color, and the signs of him having an affinity to magic as he grew. However, from this, tension between his mother and father began to form over conflicting ideas. His mother wanted him to grow up to become a priest as well, and was somewhat overbearing in this - having the other few Magi of the town teaching him to harness his magic. His father on the other hand was more lax, but wanted him to be able to protect himself, teaching him to fight physically just as much as magically; even if his father was a strict teacher.
As a result though, he was pressured from both sides - growing up dealing both with his parents trying to teach him in two different styles, the pedestal he was put upon to all the town, and the increasing bickering and arguing between his parents. Dalion would rarely find himself with a chance to make friends, or to pursue his own interests, and he felt the need to try and make his parents proud - to be capable like his father wanted, and to fulfill the role that he was being shoved into by his mother.
When his father realized that the different ways that the two of them were nurturing Dalion was doing more harm than good though, and that his mother was not going to change anytime soon, he had tried to leave with Dalion. However, his mother would not allow this, and thus began a downward spiral - convincing the town to ostracize and kick out his father, thus leaving Dalion with his mother. Dalion was still relatively young at this time - and thus had trouble coping with suddenly no longer having his dad, ending up coming to the conclusion that he just didn't do well enough; and though his mother did not confirm these thoughts, she didn't do much to clear them up either - which was perhaps just as bad in young Dalion's mind.
His mother grew increasingly strict and demanding, as the years continued on - and grew increasingly dismissive of Dalion's interests in things that she believed to be irrelevant, or otherwise opposed what she wanted him to grow up to be. Dalion, on the other hand, began growing bitter as he got older - both to himself, and to his mother - yet lacked the courage or means to stand up for himself, or to tell her that she was wrong. These emotions would be bottled up, and continued and continued... Until they finally burst one year, in a heated argument between the two. And when his emotions could take no more, lacking the proper skills to cope with them, he lashed out - using his magic to set the house ablaze, and fleeing from his home.
Dalion would end up leaving everything behind; hitchhiking his way to another planet entirely to get away from everything, and so that he didn't have to face the consequences of his actions. Left to his own devices, and without any proper emotional support to fall back on for everything, having no way to reach his dad... He instead withdrew inwards, as he stumbled his way thru learning of the universe beyond his town - having been quite sheltered for much his life due to his mother's strictness.
The passing years caused him to conclude that the universe was flawed - perhaps too flawed, with all the hardships everyone seems to deal with. Additionally, while he grew wanting to worship Din, it was perhaps for none of the reasons that his mother wanted him to, as he began taking interest in an alternate perception of the goddess - in questioning everything he’s been taught. He began to question, too - is there a way, that he could change this universe for the better? To foster something less harmful, less flawed...?
Fast-forwarding to now though, after spending much of the past years traveling, Dalion has come to join a small group of fellow travelers - a 'patrol' of sorts - after having trained alongside them. Though he does not share any particular bond with any of them, he believes it to be a beneficial way for him to grow and become stronger, and keep an ear out for the different goings-ons of the universe... Perhaps, to even find a way to fulfill his own desires...
