Welcome to Dragon Ball Universe! We sincerely hope that you enjoy your time with us and are all looking forward to role playing with you! This little guide will help you get started on your Dragon Ball Journey.
I. THE RULES
So, you've managed to find Dragon Ball Universe. Regardless of how you found it, first we would like to welcome you to the site! We hope that you enjoy your time here!
The first thing that you're going to want to do, aside from making an account, is check out the rules. They can be found HERE. They are fairly straight forward. However, if you have any questions, feel free to post in the FAQ or in the #Ask-Staff channel in discord!
II. MAKING A CHARACTER
The first thing you should do is take a look at the timeline and lore for the two universes, or at the least, the one you will choose to be part of. These pages will manage to help provide you a reference of the lore that has been established between the two universes.
Next up is the very first step of your journey here on Dragon Ball Universe: character creation! This is a fairly simple process, but also a fun one!
By reading through our wide variety of player races you will find many of the races seen throughout the Dragon Ball Universe are present as well as a few custom ones! The race you select is a major choice and it will affect your transformations, initial power level, and special characteristics. There are a lot of them, so find one that strikes your fancy! Be aware that the races are divided into MAJOR and MINOR races. Minor races are not as powerful as MAJOR races and are most commonly used for minions or allies. You are allowed to use them as your main, but be aware of this.
So, you've found a race that you like. You might be wondering what the next step is. First, you're going to want to locate the Character Application Template
Below, we will break the character application down into pieces and offer some advice when making your character.
But first, post it by creating a new topic HERE.
You'll want to make the topic subject your characters name. If you plan on working on this over time, go ahead and a [WIP] to the title. This will let staff know that your application is a work in progress and will help in the prevention of accidental archiving.
Now, I'll begin to explain each part of the application in turn.
Name: Your character's name! This is self-explanatory.
Age: Your character's age! Self-explanatory, but keep in mind that your race might age at a different rate than humans.
Race: Your character's race!
Gender: A fairly fluid subject, this is the gender of your character. Male, female, perhaps non-binary. Again, keep your race in mind. Non-gendered races like Namekians should say what their preferred pronouns are.
Universe: Which Universe do you belong too? Universe 6 is the main forum, Universe 7 however has it's own sub-forum which can be found HERE.
Faction: Your character's allegiance to the various factions in the world! You can also select "neutral", of course!
Homeworld: Where your character is from!
Height/Weight, Hair Color, Eye Color: Go into basic details of your characters appearance!
Appearance: What your character looks like! You need to do around 100 words, or roughly two paragraphs. I find it useful to describe not only their build and features, but also their usual style of dress. Get as complex or simple as you like.
Backstory: The background of your character. Again, you'll be doing at least 100 words here. I find it useful to talk about how they came to be, their childhood/formative years, and recent events!
Techniques: Possibly the most complex part of character creation. I will be going into more depth on techniques later in the guide, but for now start by opening the Techniques Mechanic page, which can be found HERE.
You'll want to begin by selecting a technique tree. This will determine how many techniques from each class, offensive and supportive, you can hold.
There are three trees, clicking any of the trees below will bring you to their limitations:

Utilize your many support techniques to give your teammates the advantage needed to finish the fight! |
Offensive, which favors offensive techniques, Defensive, which favors support techniques, and Balanced, which strikes a balance between the two. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses, so choose carefully.
As read through the technique mechanics page, you will notice that you will need to wait until you reach a certain tier of power to unlock certain levels of techniques. Techs like PT-2 and PT-3 or School Specials, characters can unlock as they grow stronger. Passive Techniques only cost however for their first slot when leveling them up.

There are also Ultimate techniques, but they must be acquired in-character.
You also want to check your race page to see if they gain any extra techniques at character creation. These techniques gained by their racials do not count against their limited slots.

III. Mechanics
Techniques:
I will now explain techniques in detail. There are three kinds of techniques: Offensive, Support, an Ultimate. Offensive deal damage, Support have various effects, and Ultimate are powerful techniques.Offensive Techniques
can broken down into five tiers: OT-1, OT-2, OT-3, VT-1, and VT-2. VT-1/2s stand for Variant Techniques, and they are offensive techniques that have an added effect, such as stunning or damage over time. A list of variants can be found HERE.Support Techniques
are techniques that do not do damage and support effects, like flight or solar flare. They break down into PT-1, PT-2, PT-3, ST-1, ST-2, and ST-3. A list of examples can be found HERE.Ultimates
Powerful techniques that provide powerful effects or massive damage. These must be created or learned under special circumstance in character. Such as by mastering all lessons of a school through in character lessons. However, school do hold limitations themselves as listed HERE.Fighting:
One of the main draws of Dragon Ball is combat! In time, you will fight plenty of people, and this will help you learn how to do it! The official rules on the matter can be found HERE. However, I will be attempting to boil it down to the basics.Combat is fairy simple and free form. Think of it like a turn-based RPG in which you describe your attacks. They can be simple punches, kicks, or the like, or you can use one of your techniques.
First, hold this page for reference, and then we will discuss stamina. You begin play with 3 points of stamina. Stamina impacts your ability to perform techniques, dodge, and block.
You spend your stamina to perform techniques, but watch it carefully! Letting it get really low can be dangerous. Now to establish the cost of certain techniques: Some techniques are passive, like flight, and have no cost. However, all offensive techniques and some support techniques cost Stamina. Stamina cost is fairly simple:
OT-1's Cost 0 Stamina (But Prevent you from Recovering Stamina)
VT-1's/OT-2's Cost 1 stamina
VT-2's/OT-3's Cost 2 Stamina!
ST-1's Cost 1 Stamina
ST-2's Cost 2 Stamina
ST-3's Cost 3 StaminaUlt's cost 3 or 4 stamina depending on their tag (Ex. ULT-3 = 3 stamina cost)
Next, let's discuss damage. Initially, your basic attacks that are not techniques will do 5% of your PL in damage. They also take no stamina to perform. You can improve this by increasing your melee finesse. This means you will need to master martial arts/fighting styles. You can read about melee finesse and fighting style HERE.
Basic Attacks = PL x Melee Finesse = Basic Attack Damage
Ex. Your PL is 5,000 and your Melee Finesse is 5% (the starting level).
Your Basic Attack Damage would then = 250 PLYour offensive techniques that cost stamina are your main means of causing damage.
OT-1= 25% Damage
VT-1 = 30% Damage + 1 Effect
OT-2 = 50% Damage
VT-2 = 60% Damage + 1 Effect
OT-3 = 75% DamageNow onto the matter of defense. There is blocking and dodging which is discussed in the Fighting Mechanics. However, there are other ways to defend yourself: barrier and dodge techniques. These are support techniques that allow you to avoid or reduce damage. It is highly recommended that you gain one of these techniques.
ST-1 Dodge = 75% Dodge, Can't Dodge OT-3/VT-2's
ST-2 Dodge = 150% Dodge
ST-3 Dodge = 225% Dodge
ST-1 Barrier = 30% Barrier
ST-2 Barrier = 60% Barrier
ST-3 Barrier = 90% BarrierTransforming is a large part of Dragon Ball Z. On this site, transforming is an instant action that cannot be interrupted. This multiplies your base PL by several times over. See your race page for the exact multipliers. Also, the first time you unlock a transformation, your stamina is returned to full.
Base PL x Transform Modifier = Transformation PL!After some time on the site, you may encounter individual splitting their power level such as so,
5000 / 10000
This is how users on the site show their offensive and defensive power level and is formatted as such.
Offensive PL / Defensive PLOffensive Power Level is the power level that will be used to determine strength of your offensive techniques and actions.
Defensive Power Level is what will determine the power of your Supportive Techniques, as well as your speed, health and defensive actions.
IV. Role-playing
Now that you understand the basics of combat and have your character ready, you're ready to role-play! It's fairly simple, so I willy simply point you in the direction of either joining an open thread, making one, or asking a member OOCly if they would like to thread! You can also write solo short stories for your character. Regardless of what you choose, when you finish you can post your thread in Threads To Be Graded and request your rewards: power level or zeni. This also can be done via the #Thread-To-Grade channel in the discord! Both rewards are important to the advancement of your character, power level being your character's strength and zeni being your character's ability to purchase various helpful items.
