Some encounters are just random, but others seems to be directed by fate, and fate is something interesting. You can’t predict your own fate and, while people have their own free will, sometimes they are guided through a path that they didn’t even know they had to. So… In a sense, there’s no telling on just how much you are actually choosing in your life, and how much you are predestined to. Galen didn’t believe a lot in fate, but he believed people had duties do fulfill and he never ever slacked off or denied any sort of responsibility; ever since he was a child he was always doing his very best at everything, be it rice farming with his parents and siblings, or training to protect the old village of Goddodin from the bandits trying to harm it, or even with his regular daily trainings under the Kikoukenjustu Sword School Teachings, ever since he found the tomes of the grandmasters Goten and Trunks, when he left the village of Bermia, near the Fortuneteller’s Desert. Still, for a time, after he had finally met the person he had been searching for years, he doubted himself for the second time in his life.
Was he capable of protecting anything? Was he needed? Did he have a role to fulfill? Could he truly help people and the planet Earth? Could he redeem those who had lost their way? The Lone Swordsman, for a while, couldn’t really find the answer to those questions and that left his spirit in a shaken state and, because of that, he needed to clear his mind of his doubts and fears. During one of his little strolls on the forest, he met a demon named Baalbatos, with whom he talked quite a bit. They had different views of the world, but due to this conversation, Galen could remember his beliefs and his faith and that lit once again his fiery determination and will to change the world into a better place. And, with that renewed drive, he decided that he would take responsibility fitting his own skill and power: if he couldn’t look over the whole world, he would at least be of assistance to those who could and, in his own limited ability, he would try to protect whatever he could.
The Korin’s Holy Tower was a place that was guarded by the towerkeeper, a person who would dedicate his life to protect the world and assist those who could fight the great evil forces who threatened the peace on not only the planet, but on the whole universe. After the talk with Baalbatos, Galen went back to the Timeless Lookout and went to the library, where he began to study a lot about the role of the towerkeeper. He learned about his role in cultivating the mystical senzu bean, a bean that could heal the worst injuries and also prevent a person from starving for days, a very useful tool for the protectors of good and peace. On top of that, the towerkeeper would be a spiritual guide for the Korin’s Tribe and one of the assistants to Kami, and that was way more than he could ever dream of. The more he studied about it, the more he got interested in it and the more his resolution would increase. After a couple of days, when he had finally learned enough and decided to take on the mantle of the towerkeeper, Galen flew down to the base of the tower.
If he wanted to be recognized as the person who would be watching over those grounds, he had to go through the trial, even if he had already done that: he would climb the tower without the aid of his ki and his ability to fly. Once down there, Galen approached the tower and touched it with his right hand. The human swordsman stared at it, unable to see the Korin’s Tower Base, high up in the skies, and then, he chuckled a bit, feeling shivers running down his spine like crazy and his heart beating so fast that it almost felt like it was about to pop out of his chest.
– Here I am… Can you see it, mom, dad, brothers, sisters, people of Goddodin, monks of the Orin temple… This is how far I’ve got all thanks to you. And, yet, I’m nothing compared to the great warrior’s I’ve had the privilege of meeting! Still… It does nor sadden me. Everyone has a role, and I think I’ve finally realized what my role is… If I’m worthy of that, I will climb this tower and become it’s keeper! I will do so with righteousness and goodness in my heart and, forever, I shall dedicate my life to the protection of this lands, of this planet, and offer my assistance to those just defenders who will protect the goodness of this world. – Galen was making his oath and then he paused, staring now to the pillar in front of him. – I have no fear… And I’m certain of my decision! So… Judge me, spirit of the old towerkeepers! Judge my heart and soul! And you, Korin’s Tower, judge my determination and my body! I will not give up, nor will I nourish in my heart any frustration in case I fail! But I do not intend to! – he said, making a brief nod.
Some of the members of the Korin’s Tower, all already familiar with Galen, had approached, staring at him with curiosity in their faces. They were commenting, wondering if he would become the towerkeeper; some of them even cheering on him. Galen stared at them and smile with kindness. – Thank you, guys, for trusting in me! I will do my best to be worthy of that! I promise you all! – he said and then, without wasting any more second, Galen jumped and started climbing the tower. Little by little he began climbing it with his eyes burning with determination.

Baalbatos was flying back. Back to where he had met the human boy, Galen. Back to these so called holy grounds of Korin. He was curious. Curious about not only these supposed holy grounds, but about the boy as well. If the boy's story were true, he had come a long way since his time as a rice farmer, a long way since the loss of his village. He was powerful. Very powerful, and Baalbatos would do well to keep tabs on the young man. And besides, he'd taken a small interest in the boy on a personal level as well. His views on morality were certainly interesting to see the least. If he were to say more, he would call them foolish and overly idealistic. If he were going to be mean about it, he would call them moronic. But he did not seek to berate the boy. No, he simply sought to try and help him learn. Baalbatos was ninety seven years old. His naivete had been crushed the moment he was able to see. Being born in the Demon Realm would do that to a man. He sought to help the boy understand the world for what it was.
The demon locked on to the boy's energy signature. It was not hard to do. The boy did not make a habit of hiding his energy. Another lesson to teach perhaps. Power attracted those who would test it, see it crushed. But Baalbatos was not seeking to do the crushing today. No, he was simply going to go ahead and visit the boy.
The holy grounds came into view, and interestingly enough, so did a large tower. Baalbatos focused, his eyes squinted with intensity. So, he thought, that's where the boy's energy was coming from. Quite the piece of real estate, thought Baalbatos. He flew closer to the tower, and slowly Baalbatos spotted the figure of a person shimmying up the tower. What in the world, thought Baalbatos, was that? Was that... Galen? Baalbatos closed his eyes and focused... Yes, it was. What was the kid doing? There was only one way to find out.
Baalbatos flew up beside Galen and shouted, "Galen, what in the world are you doing?" He flew alongside the boy as he climbed, looking for any indication at all. Galen had claimed he could fly, so why was he doing this? Was it just something else he did for enjoyment?
Galen was progressing rather quickly. His body was strong and well trained and his resolution was steel; he wanted to claim that position as the towerkeeper, he wanted to do his part in defending Earth and assisting the Z-Fighters and therefore, nothing would be able to stop him from reaching such a goal. Still, the tower was absurdly tall and reached far above the clouds to reach Korin’s Place alone; the Timeless Lookout was much further up. They boy kept on climbing, with his resolve like a burning flame. ”I can do this! I’ve already done this once! And now I’m much stronger and more determined than ever before! I will show the spirits of the Towerkeepers that I’m worthy of filling into their shoes! I will show humanity’s value! I’m proud of what I am! I’m not better than anyone, but I’m also not worse! Humanity has its value! It does!” he kept on repeating to himself as he managed progress little by little. He wasn’t nowhere near getting tired and he could do this for quite a while. The ground was far below now, but he was still miles away from the clouds.
Surprisingly, though, when he was climbing, someone approached and he could feel it. It was an absurdly large energy signature, greater than his own by a considerable margin and, yet, not even close to the energy some people he knew possesses, such as Ayami, Cambia and Kami herself. Galen looked towards the direction of that energy signature and, to his surprise, he saw the demon he met on the road, Baalbatos, flying towards him. Galen arched both his brows as he realized just how much more powerful than before he was. ”Oh my! His energy! It’s impressive! I wonder if he was suppressing it or using those weights a lot of people use…” he mused for a second, also wondering what the demon was doing around these parts.
When he approached, though, he spoke to Galen, asking him what he was doing. By his tone, he seemed rather confused by his action, and Galen couldn’t help but chuckle in a roguish tone. – I’m climbing the Tower! Hehehe! – he said in a sly tone, laughing a bit, enjoying the expression Baalbatos was showing. It was a rather odd scene, indeed, to see someone climbing such a tower, especially when they knew how to fly and, considering that Baalbatos was flying, Galen wondered if that was what was crossing his mind.
So, the boy was climbing the tower. That much was obvious. The demon almost wanted to say, 'yes, boy, I can see that. I have eyes,' but instead the demon elected to bite his tongue. No, snark would do him now good here with the boy. In fact, the lilac skinned demon wondered if the boy could even comprehend snark. He did not seem the type too. Which was a shame, because Baalbatos quite liked snark and the only person who seemed to give it back to him was his human associate Xun Sun. Lord Qrowen was too serious for snark, and Reaper did not seem the type for it.
But that was beside the point. Baalbatos's curiosity had still not been sated. He wanted to know why the boy was climbing the tower. That was always the question with Baalbatos: 'why'? Why were things the way they were? Why were people the way they were? Why did people do the things that they did? Like, for instance, climb large towers in the middle of the forest. Yes, thought Baalbatos, that was a good question. A very good one, indeed. He looked at the boy and sighed. "Well, yes Galen," said the demon as he flew along side the climber, "Indeed you are. I can see that quite well. And I suppose you're only answering the question posed, so let me ask a better one: why are you climbing this tower? Is it to clear your mind? For exercise? Your religion?"
So many questions and so many potential answers. What was the purpose of this? He supposed it could very well be religious. They were on holy grounds, after all. And, he knew little of the intricacies of human worship. They tended to be a little of the strange side, from what he understood. They did, after all, tend to worship most things more powerful than themselves. In fact, he'd heard of demons like himself coming to Earth and starting cults in their own names. Perhaps he could try that himself one day. It would certainly keep him entertained in the coming months. But he did not have time to think of that now, his burning question still had to be answered.
The boy had said nothing about climbing towers when they first met. And the boy had practically spilled his entire life story to the demon. How odd, now that he thought of it. It seemed that Earthlings were eager to confide in strangers about their lives. And it was not as if Baalbatos minded. No, for him, it was akin to gossip. And he loved gossip.
It was somehow funny how Baalbatos reacted to Galen’s simple question and, while he was well aware that it would generate another question, the human boy was actually having some fun with the demon before actually explaining things. When Baalbatos sighed, Galen chuckled a bit, showing he was indeed horsing around a bit and he chuckled a bit more when he said that he could see quite well what he was doing and then proceeded to ask why he was climbing the tower. The reasons Baalbatos considered were indeed interesting: clear mind, exercise, religion. Indeed, they were all valid reasons for someone climbing such an absurdly high tower, but none of them were the reason Galen was doing so. He remained silent for a short while after Baalbatos stopped speaking and then, with his kind and large smile on his face, he finally started explaining.
– For duty! – he said, leaving it at that for another few seconds. – But I won’t tease you anymore! Hehehe! I will explain! – he said, pausing yet again. – I’ve finally realized what I could do in order to help people and the planet. Since the dawn of time, there has always been a Towerkeeper, someone who helps people and watch over this land. They have a sacred duty to aid Kami and his assistant in everything, but they have a really important task: they grow the senzu bean, a magical seed that allows one person to heal from the most serious injuries. – Galen explained, but stopped at that. – Anyway… It has been a while now since the last Towerkeeper was alive and I’ve decided to take on this responsibility! I’m not as strong as the Z-Fighters, but I was once a farmer and doing that would be fitting into my abilities! On top of that… I’ve came to love this Holy Grounds and I would be very happy to become it’s guardian! – he added. Then, he stared back at the tower and got back into climbing it. Yet, he wasn’t ignoring Baalbatos, and, after a few seconds of climbing, he began speaking again.
– As for why I’m actually climbing it. It’s a trial from the towerkeepers spirits. If I’m to be deemed worthy of the position, the first thing I should do is to climb this tower without the aid of my ki! Therefore, flying is considered cheating! Hehehe! It’s quite thrilling, to be honest, and a hell of an exercise too… So… In a sense, I could say that I’m doing it mainly for duty, but also as a mean of exercise, mind clearing and a bit of religion too! You were right in almost every aspect of it, mister Baalbatos! – he said, once he realized that he was doing a little bit of all Baalbatos referred too. ”It’s so interesting when I see it that way!” he mused to himself, chuckling lightly.
The purpose of this was duty? Duty is what drove him to climb such a tower instead of simply flying up it? While Baalbatos did not understand the point of it at first, he could respect the idea of duty. He often lived the virtue of duty himself. All of his work for Lord Qrowen was his idea of duty. After all, someone had to pay the bills, buy equipment, organize movements, examine logistics, ensure that the soldiers were fed, ensure that soldiers did not eat one another, ensure that the civilians were fed, ensure that the soldiers did not eat the civilians, or even outright murder them. Yes, he thought, it was a thankless job. But it was his job, and somebody had to do it. It was, to bring it back all around, his duty. But for all the respect that Baalbatos had for the concept of duty, he could not help but wonder what climbing a giant tower had to do with Galen's duty.
But the human would explain it soon enough. It seemed that Galen wished to help the people of Earth, in his own way. Yes, thought Baalbatos, that was all well and good, but how did climbing a tower come into this all? But he went on to explain that there was something called 'the Towerkeeper'. Baalbatos raised an eyebrow in interest and nodded for the boy to go on about the occupation. Apparently, the position assisted the Kami of Earth and there assistant. Not quite as interesting as the demon had hoped, but it seemed that the Earthling was not done explaining it yet.
The Towerkeeper also grew the magical Senzu beans. And this caught the demon's attention. Apparently, they could heal the person who ingested them from any injury. Now that, thought Baalbatos, was something worthwhile. He would love to have something like that at his disposal. It would make his life so much easier knowing he could come back from the brink of death should something ever happen. Baalbatos, after all, like to have plans in reserve.
And now Galen intended to fill the vacant position of Towerkeeper. Fitting indeed, thought Baalbatos, for a rice farmer. Funny how people always seemed to come around right back to where they started in life. It was as if life was a circle, a wheel that was always spinning. Hopefully, for the demon, it would not spin back around. He had no desire to return to his old station in life.
Galen went on to explain that the climb was a trial from tower spirits. Spirits, thought Baalbatos, how quaint. He'd dealt with spirits before. Amusing little things, but ultimately not worth his time. And, he thought, not worth Galen's time either. But this was Galen's choice, he reminded himself, even if he thought it a waste of time personally. In fact, flying was cheating. Baalbatos gave a small smirk. Well, that would not stop him. After all, this was not his trial.
"Well, Galen," said Baalbatos, "I think you've explained it well enough. And I say, best of luck to you. You've got my encouragement in this matter, and if you don't mind, I think I'll stick around and see where this goes. I'm quite curious to see the new towerkeeper rise."
Baalbatos gave the young man a small smile. Yes, quite interested indeed. Especially if he already had a connection to the towerkeeper. "So," said Baalbatos, "Tell me more of these senzu beans, of yours. You said they can heal the most grievous of injuries. But I have a hard time believing that. Even such feats can be difficult to accomplish with magick, and I consider myself an expert on that matter."
Galen felt happy when Baalbatos wished him luck. The demon was even kind enough to offer himself to accompany Galen through his trail, and that pleased him; climbing the tower could become rather lonesome after a while. Not that loneliness particularly bothered someone who was also known as the Lone Swordsman, but sometimes we need a break from it. – Sure! It will be great to have some company! Hahaha! I still have a few miles ahead of me! Talking will make time pass faster! – he said in an honest and kind tone as he continued to conquer the tower, block by block, climbing restlessly. Then, when the demon asked him more about the senzu bean, telling him he was finding troublesome to believe they could actually do something like that, and Galen chuckled.
– There’s plenty in this world that we don’t know! No matter how educated, wise or old we are. And the senzu beans are mystical seeds from the dawn of time, granted as a gift from the gods of creation to Earth. The reason I can only guess but… To tell the truth, the Z-Fighters from the past did save the whole universe… So I’m inclined to believe that Earth is the cradle of heroes for more than a generation! And maybe that was the reason… - but that was only his theory anyway. – Still, the senzu bean can heal any injury, even lost limbs! It’s the most potent medicine in the world. Still… It cannot heal you from natural diseases. Oh! And I almost forgot! Hahahaha! – he paused, laughing a bit as he remembered of another interesting trait of the beans. – A single bean can make you satisfied for nearly forty days! Meaning… You won’t have to eat for nourishment for over a month! That’s how amazing they are! Still… They are very hard to grow, and they need to be harvest carefully in order to keep their magical properties. On top of that… There’s a limit of how much we can produce at a time… At least, that’s what I’ve read, but, again, I have no reason to doubt it since the books I read were in the Timeless Lookout, far above the Korin’s Tower. – he said, staring at the skies above.
– Far beyond the clouds, near the edge of the planet! It’s an impressive place! One you cannot reach by climbing! Only flying! – he added. Although he wasn’t done yet, the duo could already see their destination above them. A few more minutes and Galen would be getting there. The sight of the place made his heart race. ”I’m getting there!” he thought to himself in excitement.
A few miles, thought Baalbatos, how droll. The boy certainly had dedication. The demon himself would have grown tired of the climb before long and simply allowed himself to fly up the tower. But he supposed that is why the boy was attempting to become the towerkeeper and not someone like Baalbatos. It could also be because that someone like Baalbatos had larger aspirations than becoming a glorified, magical farmer and assistant, but that was besides the point. He supposed that it came down to a respect for tradition, a respect that the boy had and the demon lacked. No, Baalbatos was far too pragmatic to let tradition get in the way of anything. Tradition, he thought, was a roadblock in the way of advancement and it be moved aside.
The boy claimed that there was much in this world they did not understand. Baalbatos nodded, yes, this was true. But it did not mean that they had to accept it. They were alway learning, and Baalbatos believed that, given enough time, eventually no more mysteries would remain in the world. The combined might of science and magic could unveil any amount of things, even the supposed power of the senzu beans.
But the boy went on to explain more of their magical properties. Any injury could be healed, it seemed, even the restoration of lost limbs. Amazing, thought Baalbatos, if what the boy said was true, the little beans were just as potent as the strongest of healing magicks. And what was more, the boy claimed that the beans were potent enough to give sustenance to a person for forty days. The demon considered such power. If this were true, why were they not farming these beans on a massive scale? They could feed entire armies on these beans, they could feed entires nations and planets. They could end strife in the poorest parts of the worlds. Or, he thought, a savvy businessman could turn a profit with these so-called miracle foods. Degerminate the beans, he thought, before selling them and they could go for a lot of money without having to worry about the risk of a competitor picking them. For a gift from the gods of creation, they sure were not using it to its fullest potential. These Z-Fighters, these heroes... Did they not know what kind of power they were sitting on? It was ludicrous to think that no one had tried to harvest these for their great potential yet.
But it seemed that the boy had an explanation for even this. Hard to grow, he thought, and they needed to be harvested with great caution. And, supposedly an imposed limit on how many there were, if the books at this 'Lookout' were meant to be believed. Baalbatos looked up, and saw it rising before them. So, he thought, that was their destination.
"I look forward to seeing it," said the demon, "And perhaps, if you'd be so kind, you'd allow me to see these senzu beans at a later date. I'm quite interested in their magic, as a bit of a sorcerer myself."
Galen stared at Baalbatos with his kind smile on his face, happy that the demon was excited to see that. Of course everything would only happen if Galen managed to be accepted by the spirits of the towerkeepers, who would need to see him as a worthy vessel of such a huge responsibility; the senzu beans played a major role as an aid to the Z-Fighters plenty of times in the past and to bring them back to existence was something he would be thrilled to do. On top of that, there were other things too, such as the Flying Nimbus and he couldn’t wait for that either, but, for now, it would be best for him if he didn’t share that much of information anyway. Although Baalbatos seemed like a decent person to his standards, they were still getting to know each other.
– Sure! I don’t know how long it will take for me to grow them… But I can show you and maybe even give you on, if you are truly a nice person! Hehehe! – he said in a very casual tone, as if he was talking about giving a meaningless thing to someone; in truth, Galen respected the senzu beans and the position, but he wasn’t fond of thinking absurdly highly of anything. In fact, he believed that every creature was worthy of its place in the world and should be respected and cared equally.
Finally, after a few more minutes, he reached Korin’s place, the middle of the tower and the home of the towerkeepers. The entrance to the place was through four large holes near the tower itself. Galen gathered some impulse and propelled himself through one of the roles until he found himself in a large house-like place. – Wow! – he exclaimed, amused with the place. It wasn’t much, and probably a person such as Baalbatos wouldn’t even bother with it, but, for Galen’s standards, it was absolutely stunning! It didn’t have much. It was a large circular area with plenty of jugs filled with seeds that could grow into senzu beans near a place filled with dirt, where the beans could be cultivated. Near that there was a futon styled large purple-colored bed, a desk with some drawers and plenty of books, some jugs of water nearby a bathtub and potty, and finally a large wardrobe for him to put the few things he owned. In between the wardrobe and the bathtub, there was porthole, leading to a set of stairs.
– T-this place… Is amazing! – he thought to himself for a second, with a quite impressed expression on his face.
The boy said he did not know how long they would take to grow, and Baalbatos nodded to that. He could wait and see. The demon was nearing a century in age. And while that might seem like a short time for many demons, for most of the races in the universe, it was a rather long lifespan. And, in his lifetime, Baalbatos liked to think that he had learned a little bit about patience. And when the human boy spoke of possibly giving him one, Baalbatos offered the boy a small. Such kindness, thought Baalbatos, he truly is quite virtuous. Or ignorant, thought the demon.
They flew along for a few more minutes, before finally reaching their destination. About time, thought the lilac skinned demon, he had been starting to get impatient. Where in the world was the entrance to this thing, though? Baalbatos looked about him and watched as Galen disappeared through one of four holes in the tower. With a sigh, Baalbatos followed after him, working his way through the tunnels. Before long, he came out after Galen, into the abode of the towerkeeper.
So, he thought, this was it. Not a bad place, he told himself, certainly quite... airy. It was not his style of course. But, it would do nicely for somebody who wanted to live up here. It had the basic amenities, it seemed, plus it had quite the view. He turned to Galen and eyed the boy appraisingly. It certainly seemed like it would be an upgrade for the boy.
"Well, well, Galen," said the demon, "This is quite the place. Perhaps not the fanciest, but it certainly is unique. Though, I've got to wonder how they decided they were going to build a house all the way up here. Not exactly the most conveinant place, but certainly interesting."
He paused a moment. "So," continued the demon, "You'll be living up here from now on?"
It was curious of how quickly he had taken the decision to depart and yet, he was already regretting it. He missed his life on the blue marble among his friends and comrades, even worse was that he had no idea of what was going on-- what if the Demons had conquered the planet? He knew no one had blown up the planet, in the past few days he managed to learn how to reach out to the planet and pick up on the aura of its inhabitants.
He couldn’t really sense any major conflict but it didn’t really help at all to reassure him of the situation. Although, he knew there were more than just a few people he could; Bernael, Cambia and a few more. There was also Galen! He was not as strong as other Z-Fighters but the kid really more will than anyone else in the Earth’s Special Forces. Speaking of, he wondered how he was keeping up with his training, he had promised him to lend the Earthling a hand whenever he needed one his training but unfortunately, many things happened and had no time to even speak with him since that time.
Arion was sitting on the ground, his legs crossed and his mind stuck in a meditative state. He was trying to center himself within the universe’s harmony until he came up with something.
“If I was capable of reaching out to the Earthlings.. can I actually speak with them? I can sense them, so I’d be skilled enough to connect with someone’s mind and have a telepathic conversation!” - he thought to himself, cracking a smile as he exhaled sharply and extended his sense outwards, reaching out to the blue marble planet. It was difficult at first but he was getting the hang of it, what made it even easier is that he was familiar with the Earthlings' signature, so he could tell it was theirs straight away.
"There are definitely a few strong ones, but... I can only speak with one of them at once. I can also sense... Saiyans? I guess Nasu and company decided to stay there for the moment, not sure why but I doubt they'll threaten the planet again. Not after what happened, and unfortunately, I still can't sense Kami-sama... dammit." - he thought to himself. He could pick up on several individuals’ auras but among them, he chose Galen’s, and then he concentrated as hard as possible on linking their minds, more than he ever did. “Galen? Can you hear me?” - he asked telepathically.
“Don’t worry, I am Arion. I am speaking to you thanks to my Telepathic Abilities. I can sense you’re way above the sea level there. Are you on the Lookout or?”

Galen was still awestruck by the place which was possibly going to be his new home and he was giggling quite a lot. Still, when Baalbatos spoke to him, he stared at the demon with a quite distracted expression before shaking his head and scratching the back of his head in embarrassment. – I hopefully will! It’s an amazing place! Not even in my best dreams I’ve thought about living in such an amazing place! And look at the view! It’s absolutely marvelous! – he exclaimed, sprinting towards one of the windows to shout a “wow!” out loud as he chuckled in joy. Suddenly, though, before he could say anything else, he sensed a familiar presence reaching for him. His eyes became quite surprised and curious, yet happy when he heard that familiar voice in his head.
– Master Arion! It’s you! Wow! You are truly amazing! I heard you were on another planet, and, yet, you can reach me! I’m not in the Lookout, I’m actually on the Korin’s Place! I’ve decided to try and become the Towerkeeper! This way I can help everyone, even if I’m not as strong as they are! – he said in a sincere and determined tone to Arion.
But then, out of nowhere, a spirit manifested itself on the place. It was a spirit of a cat holding a staff. It was quite short, not taller than one of the jugs of water nearby and its fur was pure white. The Cat approached Galen and Baalbatos, staring from one to the other and, with a snap of his finger, Arion’s presence also manifested there, almost like an astral projection, so that he could see everyone that was in the place. Galen jumped, startled by that and shouted another “wow!”.
– Welcome boy! My name is Master Korin and I was the last Towerkeeper! Welcome to you too, Kami’s Assistant, Arion. Glad you could join us, otherwise this wouldn’t work! Hehehe! Now… Tell me, boy! Do you really want to burden such a responsibility! – the cat asked. Galen immediately dropped to his knees and lowered his head in a very respectful gesture.
– Master Korin! Such an honor! Yes, Master! I want to! I want to protect this planet and aid the Z-Fighters! I’m willing to commit my life to such a task! – he said in sincerity and humility. The cat then licked its paw for a second, before speaking again. – Very well, then! Follow me to the upper floor! – and, with those words, his spirit vanished once again, leaving Galen even more impressed. – I can’t believe it… Master Korin… Really did come to speak with me! – he said, in awe.
3k words met! Deadline ended! Towerkeeper position claimed! With that, the house bonus applies to Galen in this thread!
The boy seemed glad to be here. Good, thought Baalbatos, at least someone was impressed with the place. And at least he would be happy living here it seemed. Hopefully, he'd get started on growing those senzu beans once again. Baalbatos was intensely curios about those, and if they boy could provide him with one, that would be ideal.
Suddenly, the boy spoke aloud. He referred to a man named 'Arion', talking to him about his ambition. Apparently the man was on another planet. What in the world, thought Baalbatos, had the man gone mad? No, he realized, perhaps someone was reaching him with telepathy. Baalbatos shrugged. Whatever worked for them. If the man saw fit to talk to people in thin air, that was his business. Though he had to wonder who this Arion was, to be able to reach Galen from another planet. Surely, he must be a powerful man in his own right.
And now things got even stranger. The spirit of a small white cat manifested before them, along with the spectral image of a Namekian, who was now revealed to be the assistant to Kami. Well, he thought, what was one of Kami's people doing off the planet? Not that it mattered, he was more interested in the strange spirit of the cat. He claimed to be the spirit of the last Towerkeeper.
The cat spirit questioned Galen's resolve and Galen reassured the cat that he really wanted it. Baalbatos watched in interest. This was taking a turn for the very interesting, and... slightly strange. The cat beckoned for Galen to follow him, and Baalbatos looked at each of the people in turn and sighed. This is certainly not what he expected. "Well, Galen," muttered Baalbatos, "It seems you were not lying about these tower spirits of yours. I suppose you've finally done what you set out to do."
The Namekian cracked a smile as he received a positive response from the young swordsman, not only that but he had succeeded in his attempt to communicate with someone on another planet. The best thing to learn new skills was to try first after all, but either way, the Human spoke of becoming the new Towerkeeper and such made Arion raise a brow. “It’s been a lot since we’ve had one.. if I remember correctly there wasn’t one even around the time of the previous Kami.” - he thought to himself, his smile widening across his face.
“The new Towerkeeper? That’s fantastic! It’s a position that’s been empty for ages, it’s good to finally have someone to fulfill it.” - he said in a proud tone. What he remembered was that the Towerkeeper was responsible for growing the Senzu Beans; mystical beans capable of healing the worst wound. “I see... that’d help the Earth’s Special Forces a great deal! He’d also guide those who come to climb the tower.” - he thought to himself, his smile growing into a grin.
All of a sudden, he could not only sense Galen but even see him, he could see Korin’s Place and furthermore… Earth?! Arion blinked slowly before he shifted his gaze at the cat, offering him a polite bow of his head. “Korin-sama, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” - he said, smiling slightly as he listened quietly before the spirit vanished.
Arion looked at the demon man for a brief moment, he was somewhat concerned in regards to his identity but he shrugged the matter off after all, the two seemed to know each other. He looked at Galen once more, chuckling a bit. “Indeed! I admit I’ve never had the chance to meet him myself but this is a special occasion. So, what about we reach him to the upper floor now?”
Galen just mischievously giggled at Baalbatos when the demon finally realized he wasn’t lying. – Hehehe! – he teased him. Arion seemed also satisfied that he was claiming such a position and that filled his little heart with pride; it was good to be useful for the Z-Fighters and to be recognized as worthy by the Kami Assistant himself. Then, when he suggested they should go to the upper floor, he nodded immediately and walked at a fast pace towards the second floor of the Korin’s Place. After going up a set of stairs, they reached a place that was almost completely empty. When Galen reached there, he saw the spirit of Master Korin standing in the middle of it, near a water fountain.
– This, my boy, is the fountain of the Sacred Holy Water. It’s really lucky that the Kami Assistant could come, otherwise we would need to wait before allow you to take up my mantle. In order to test the purity of your heart, you need to drink it. If you are evil, it will most certainly kill you, but if you are good, you will become stronger and clean of the darkest part of your soul! Now… Are you willing to take this chance? And are you willing to allow him to drink the Sacred Holy Water, Arion? – the white cat asked.
Galen’s eyes became filled with determination and he nodded, putting his right clenched fist at his heart. – I’m not afraid, Master Korin! Nor will I doubt myself on this trial! If I’m evil, then it will be no shame if I die! But I’m determined to burden this responsibility with all my heart and soul! – he said, and the cat nodded, chuckling a bit. Then, Galen turned his gaze to Arion. – Master Arion! Please, allow me to take this trial! I promise with all my heart that I will always act in a rightful way! I won’t bring shame upon you or Kami! I will always do my best! – he said. The human swordsman truly wanted that and that much as obvious. He didn’t even care if it would make him stronger or not, the only thing he wanted to do was help people, and that much was clear in his eyes.
