About one day after he had finished his training near the hut, on the borders of the Fortuneteller’s Desert, Galen finally managed to reach the end of the desert and get into the new green area. The sight of the grass and trees was a true delight that made him laugh in relief. – Oh boy! How I missed it! How long have I longed for this! The weather is so much better now!!! Hahaha! And look! An apple!!! – the excitement on his tone was crystal clear and, as soon as he spotted the fruit, he quickly leaped forward and reached it, grabbing it with his right hand and swiftly landing back on the grassy ground. He giggled a bit and gave a large bite on the apple, tasting that sweet flavor! The dried fruits the villagers of Bermia gave him were good and saved him during his stay in the desert, but they couldn’t even dream to compare themselves to the amazing taste of a fresh fruit from a fertile land.
After he finished eating it, he threw the seed on the ground; maybe it would become another apple tree one day, and then continued walking slowly around the place. – If my map is correct… This is Korin’s Holy Grounds! Home of the Korin’s tribe! – he said to himself, checking the old map he acquired when he was still roaming around the Southern Islands, about a month ago. ”If the information was correct, the place where Kami lives should be around here somewhere… But… This place seems to be quite huge! I bet it will still take me a while to find it… But… Not like I’m in a rush or anything! Let’s enjoy the place for a little bit! Hehehe!” he thought, feeling rather giddy, and giggling a bit.
Back when she had fought the demon known as Masato, she had thought her life would go back to being normal, once she went back to East City. And for the most part, it had. After hearing about what had happened in the Southern Islands, her parents had changed her training methods.
The game of Hide and Seek they've played, where no longer in familiar environments she was used to being around. Something about it eventually preparing her not to be at a disadvantaged. Which meant that she actually got to travel around outside of East City. It was only for a day or two, sure, and time occasionally had her missing some school days, but she didn't mind. Nothing would ever have her complain about spending time with family.
School had also been the same to an extent. School work had kept her busy, as well as extracurricular activities. But it was the latter that had eventually brought her life away from normal again. A school play in Satan City, had turned into an eventual vampire fight, that she was forced into.
That part of her life had been settled now, and once again she hadn't encountered anything unusual. Still, this kind of adventure was more than what she actually wanted to have this year. Part of her disliked that her life seemed to be changing, while another part of her enjoyed the new places she's been.
East City was her hometown, and as a highschooler, exploring past the city usually wasn't on her list. She wasn't even sure if she wanted to move out of her hometown after university, like Haruto wanted to. But now wasn't the time to be daydreaming. She had to find her mother.
It wasn't an easy task however. Korin's forest was full of life, and the amount of power levels she was feeling, made things difficult. When she had first heard about the place, she had mistaken it to be a forest that grew the snack food, Korin. Her mother hadn't confirmed or denied that it was, part of her training.
She felt a power level stronger than the forest animals, and followed after it. Usually her mother would giggle if she had thought her daughter had found her, and rarely just let her sense her ki, like her father did. But when she had followed the ki signature, it wasn't her mother, but a man.
The map in his hands suggested that he was a traveler. Either that, or a treasure hunter. It was impossible to tell what exactly kind of map he was looking at from here. And whatever he was looking at, he seemed to be happy about it. She wanted to laugh too. Curiosity got the best of her, and with great speed, she had snuck up behind him. Like most people, he was taller than her, so she had to stand on her toes to really get a look.
"Mister? Saeko wants to know what's so funny. Saeko wants to laugh too."
[Power Level is suppressed.]

Galen wasn’t capable of sensing ki energy nor suppressing it. In fact, he had only recently found out that it was something within the realm of possibilities. His training at the Orin Temple had been pretty basic and, hopefully, he would be able to learn a little bit more after he reached the place where Kami lived. Anyway, he kept on walking around the place, enjoying the environment and suddenly someone sneaked behind him, unnoticed until she spoke. Galen’s neck hair bristled in surprised and he widened his eyes quite a lot, quickly turning around and stepping back in alertness. ”Sweet Kami! I didn’t even hear this person approaching!!” he almost gave in to the urge of holding his sword hilt, but he didn’t; he still didn’t know what kind of person she was and grabbing a sword wasn’t the most diplomatic way to say hi.
When he finally turned around, he saw a pink creature that looked like a little girl. During his travels he had met some pinkish folks. ”Oh, yeah! What is it that they call themselves? Majin? Yeah! That sounds about right!” he remembered as he stared at her in surprise. ”And she looks like a little girl!” he thought. Anyway, his brain finally processed what she had just said, and he relaxed a bit more, scratching the back of his neck, slightly embarrassed for his initial reaction; he had been alone for far too long on the past couple weeks, he needed some social activity.
– Oh, sorry about that! You startled me! Hahah… - his tone was kind. – I wasn’t laughing about anything in particular, just felt extremely happy to be in the woods again, after weeks in the desert! Hehhe! So… I guess Saeko is your name? – he asked, with a gentle smile on his face. Then, he pointed at his chest with his right thumb. – Name is Galen! I’m a traveling swordsman from the East! Pleased to make your acquaintance, little lass! – the young man introduced himself in a highly spirited tone. He seemed like a really nice guy despite his above average power level. And, other than the fact that he carried a Broad Sword on his back, he didn’t seem dangerous at all.
Like the other humans she met in her life, he had jumped back. Though the interesting thing was, this one hadn't even taken a look at her, before doing so. Was this what humans meant, about some people having eyes in the back of their heads? But he was wearing a bandana. How was that possible?
When he turned around to face her, he had started to scratch the back of his neck. According to media, that was a sign that either he was nervous, or hiding something. Although thinking about the eye thing, both kind of came together. It couldn't have been because of her. They were complete strangers.
"Eh?! How come you didn't just fly through the desert?"
Even though he was clearly an adventurer, she didn't get why anyone would put themselves through that much heat. And he had apparently been in the desert for weeks, when it would take less time if he had just flown through. Though maybe it was a human thing.
She had recalled during her fight with Masato, how Haruto-kun had told her it took forever to find her. Could that be what happened when you didn't train your body? She wasn't sure, but she was learning a lot.
"Mmhm. Saeko is Saeko."
That was another thing she didn't get about humans. They kept asking for her name twice, even though she had already told them it once. The only exception had been that Kold Demon she had fought maybe a couple of months ago? It definitely felt that long.
"You're from the East too? You should come see Saeko at one of Saeko's plays sometime."
She had forgotten all about that map he had been looking at earlier, as well as her original intentions to find her mom.

Saeko’s initial question made a hell lot of sense and that just made Galen feel a little more embarrassed. He continued to scratch the back of his head as he gazed away from her eyes. – I… I just think that flying all the time makes us lose sight of plenty of wonderful things and… - he paused, staring back at her. His embarrassed feature gave its place to that gentle smile once again. – On top of that, by walking I get to meet plenty of places! And some of them need some sort of assistance! So… I could say that walking gives me enough time and opportunity to meet and help people, and that’s one of my goals in life! Hehe! – he was definitely in a good mood, and whenever he talked about helping people, it always helped getting him on high spirits.
Then, the young pinkish girl said that she was also from the East. This statement made him feel a little homesick for a short while. He misses his home, he missed his family, but he knew he couldn’t be with them anymore. What is dead is dead, and the only thing the living can do is keep their memory alive in their hearts and move forward, honoring the dead and helping people in order to prevent other people from suffering from the same fate. Galen chuckled a bit and folded his arms while staring at the girl. He couldn’t help but to notice that she was wearing a school uniform.
– Yeah! Maybe one day! But I have a goal around these western lands right now! So… I will have to take a rain check, okay, Saeko? – he paused for a bit. – Changing the subject for a little bit. This is a school uniform you are wearing, right? Aren’t you supposed to be in school, then? – he asked, with a kind but slightly reprehending tone.
Seeing him scratch his head like that, she had to wonder if it hurt. He didn't seem to be in pain. Or maybe it felt like scratching an itch on your eye? If he didn't want to keep that part of himself a secret, she would definitely ask. She didn't question why he had looked away from her. It wasn't an unusual sight. In her perspective, he actually looked like he just needed to sneeze.
"You're so lucky. Saeko wished Saeko had that much time."
He had a point about the sight seeing thing. Earth was a beautiful place, but most people just didn't have the time to look at it. There was also the kind of money involved with traveling. Her vacation to the Southern Islands awhile ago, had proved that. The place they stayed at certainly didn't look cheap.
Galen sounded like he traveled a lot. It was obvious he liked what he did, and he must have had lots of stories to tell. If she didn't have to leave this forest early, she wouldn't have mind hearing some of them. Which reminded her. She was supposed to be finding her mom.
But she couldn't just leave in the middle of their conversation like this. She was actually enjoying learning a bit about him and where he came from. Though he did say he liked helping people. Maybe he could help her find her mom? Adding another player to their game wouldn't be against the rules.
"It's okay. Saeko understands."
Even though it wouldn't be for awhile, she was happy she would have one more person she knew who could attend her plays. And not the type to really focus on one thing for so long, especially with someone else adding to the conversation, it didn't take much for her to forget about the play thing.
"Saeko's been excused from school for a couple of days to spend time with Saeko's mom. We're a military family, so Saeko can only see one of them a week."
Despite telling him something others might consider grim, she didn't seem remotely sad about what she had brought up. And she wasn't. Why would she spend time being sad about her weekly routine, when she could enjoy them while they're here.

That girl was quite odd, but Galen thought she was amusing at the same time. Seemed like a simple minded girl that didn’t have much concerns in her life. Well, she did think flying was a normal thing, so, even though he was incapable of measuring people’s potential by sensing their energy, he could at least tell that she wasn’t an ordinary person. She also mentioned that she didn’t have much free time, what made him wonder. ”Maybe it’s because of school… I bet those schools take a lot of time. Haha… I wish I had been to school. Seems like a very cool place to get to know people and make friends, while learning about a bunch of stuff… Well! But I can’t complain! My folks taught me quite a lot of things! And I’m pretty much sure they don’t teach people how to plant rice in school! Hehe!” he giggled a little bit with his own silly thoughts. After that, the young Majin told him that she came from a military background and that surprised him again, and he was completely unable to hide that from his expression.
– Military?! Wow! I wouldn’t have guesses that much. – he admitted, still quite impressed. To think such a chill and seemingly distracted and casual pinkish girl came from a military family. ”You can’t really judge a book by its cover, Galen!” he reaffirmed that mental note, nodding to himself briefly. Galen didn’t feel bad for the girl only being able to see her parents in just a few occasions. To tell the truth it was a gift to have parents alive and well, and it was better than many people had. – The important thing is making the most out of the moments we have with them, not how much time we have! Hehe! – he said in a rather happy tone; Galen’s parents’ death didn’t bother him anymore. What had happened happened. There was no use crying over spilled milk and he knew that very well. But then, something stroke him, and a curious expression took over his feature.
– Since you mentioned it… Where is your mom? I didn’t see anyone around here other than you, Saeko. – he said, looking around again just to make sure. But he couldn’t find anyone on the surrounding area. As far as he knew, the two of them were all alone.
She was confused. Was it that surprising her family was involved in the military? As a kid, she had been introduced to a lot of Majins who worked for the earth's army. That's just the way she had always known things to be. And one day, her future would reside in the military too.
It wasn't really a personal choice of hers, but there wasn't a way out of it, as far as she could see. You couldn't really escape being enlisted if the earth really needed your skills to defend the humans. Other than frowning, she hadn't really said anything else about it. Though it was a brief frown. She had nodded to his statement about focusing on making moments with her family. That was exactly what she and her mom were doing right now, with this training session of hers.
"Hee hee. Saeko needs to find her as part of weekly training. But it's hard sensing her with the animals around."
What was he looking around for? Did he hear her? Or maybe felt her presence? She didn't hear any giggling, and the only strong power level she could feel besides his, was likely a bear or something. Maybe he was just mistaken. But then, she had felt it. It was faint, but her mom had stopped suppressing her ki for a second. Excited, she had briefly stopped suppressing hers as well. Haruto had once compared their ki sensing game to a radar.
"Saeko found her! You should play too. Saeko needs to find her before our break, or Saeko loses."
The Majin girl had frowned a bit and Galen didn’t fail to notice that. ”Did I say something wrong?” he wondered, but since there was no other body signals from her, he couldn’t hope to understand why she frowned. Then, she spoke again, explaining that she was taking part in some sort of training right now, and that it was hard sensing her mom with all the animals around. Galen couldn’t help but to feel impressed again. ”This little girl can sense energy?!” he thought to himself, surprised. After this feeling of surprised, he felt his cheeks burning as he blushed, ashamed of his lack of sensing skills. He once again scratched the back of his neck and gazed away from her for a second.
Before he could continue feeling embarrassed, though, Saeko spoke again, saying she had sensed her mom and invited him to tag along in their training. Galen stared back at her with curiosity in his eyes as she explained that if Saeko failed to find her mother before her break was over, she would lose. – Well… I can definitely help you but I can’t really… And she ran off… - before he could even finish his sentence, she sprinted off towards somewhere where she may have sensed her mom. Galen quickly leaped into the air, using his flight ability to follow her for a higher height. He hoped to find her mom with his sight, since sensing her was out of the question. ”Shouldn’t be hard to find her… She is pink, right? She isn’t very likely to be camouflaged… I hope…” he thought to himself, feeling rather uncertain.
She could be fast when she wanted to be. Between the time she had ran off, and when Galen had flew into the air, she had gone a pretty good distance into the forest. Some of the wildlife around were curious enough to poke their heads out, stopping to look at this pink girl running pass by.
It was only after a moment or so, did she stop running, having lost the trail her mom had left behind. One thing about this new training method, was that because of the other ki signatures in the area, she couldn't really fire off an energy blast, unless she was careful.
Usually, she did that as a warning that she was hot on their trail, and would likely get another hint again. There were too many trees in this forest though, and she didn't want to disturb any of the wild life, more than beings like them passing through, already cause for them.
With no other lead to really go off on, she had continued onward. The subtlest movement in the bushes would catch her attention, but always ended up being a squirrel, or deer passing by. There wasn't any sign of the pink flesh she was familiar with seeing, nor did she hear any giggling.
"Mr. Galen? Do you see anything up there?"
Although she had been busy before, she did remember that she had asked Galen to tag along. He had decided to fly above her, and with the two of them searching for her mom like this, they should be able to find her before lunch break. That was usually around the time when the sun started to set.
While Galen searched for any sign of pink from above, Saeko searched for it from the grounding and also searched for her mom’s energy signature. ”She is actually quite good at hiding… Guess that’s one of the skills of the military!” he thought to himself, as he frenetically looked from one side to the other, in hopes of finding her; it wasn’t easy at all and the young man was starting to think that it would take them quite a while to find her. ”Hopefully we will find her before this break she mentioned about… I don’t want her to lose on this training. I know just how important training is. And, jeez… I wish I could sense energy! I would at least be able to measure her energy power! How strong is this little pink girl? This world is far too big! There’s plenty of people, and everyone is special on their own way!” he was thinking about lots of things, but this didn’t distracted him from his job, and he kept on looking for her mom.
Saeko asked him if he saw anything down there and he answered her in a loud tone, so that she could hear him from the distance. – No! Still nothing from up here! Do you think she would be concerned if I raised my power a lot? Maybe this would drag her out of hiding! What do you think, Saeko?! – he asked her. This idea wasn’t all that bad. Her mom couldn’t possibly have taken into account that Galen would join. She also couldn’t possibly know what kind of person he was, so, maybe, if his power became high enough, she would need to be careful and take a peek on what was going on, and maybe that would allow them to spot her as she left her hideout. It was a plan at least. Maybe not the best, but still something!
It was a good idea, actually. It really was. An unknown power level would have her mom worry enough to stop suppressing her ki. But she didn't want to scare away the animals to do it. Just look at them. They're so cute. She had actually stopped searching for a moment, just to squat down near one of them.
Even though they couldn't actually talk, she was sure they were smart enough to understand when to flee from an unknown source. Having them all run around, scared, would have been sad. And besides, they would still have to catch her mom, even if they had actually found her. She wasn't going down easily.
"Even if we did find her, we would still have to catch her anyway!"
They played by the "If I can't see you, you can't see me" rules. So as long as she had enough stamina to run, it wouldn't be over. She soon got up and went back to searching, although it was all for naught. Besides the animals, she had only found bushes and plants among the forest.
"Mom, Saeko's coming after you!"
Occasionally, she would feel her mother's presence, and would excitedly run off again towards a direction that wasn't just a straight path. Since she couldn't really send a ki blast as a warning to her mother, the next best thing had been cupping her hands over her mouth and shouting.
She wouldn't notice that as they continued walking through the forest, there were getting closer to civilization. The first sign had been the plants and bushes she had passed by earlier. While the second sign had been the fresh source of water she had stopped at for a bit and admired. Only thing missing were tracks to the village itself.
The young man arched his brows when she asked if it wouldn’t scare the animals. – The animals, you say? – then, when he looked around, he saw the wood’s animals around the place, with one of them really close to Saeko. Galen didn’t know that the animals could also sense energy and that made him even more embarrassed. ”Oh boy… Even the animals can feel energy and I can’t! This is beyond embarrassing! I really do need to find Kami! I could use a training or two from the guardian of the planet…” he thought to himself; even though he had just improved his skills quite a lot with the Kikoukenjutsu Sword School book, there was still a long road ahead of him and he knew that.
Saeko said that even if they found her, they would still need to catch her. – Really?! That’s quite tricky! – he answered, smiling to her. He didn’t want to spoil her fun, but, to be honest, he was rather frustrated to be having such a hard time looking for one person in the woods. But, anyway, they continued. Every now and then Saeko would start running towards one direction in a rather hasty pace. Galen believed that every time she did that was because she felt her mom’s presence and just followed her with alert eyes, flying above her. This tracking exercise led them to the outskirts of a civilization. A village or a small town, he couldn’t yet tell.
Galen decided to take a closer look at the village and approached by air. He narrowed his eyes as he searched and finally there was something! ”Thank goodness! A lead!” he thought to himself. The young man saw in the distance someone with pink! He couldn’t yet tell if it was a skin or a cloth, but it was at least something! Galen quickly returned to where Saeko was, still flying above her. – Saeko! I think I saw something on the village ahead of us! I don’t know if it was your mom, but it definitely had some pink on it! – he said, with a large smile on his face. The sooner he found her mom, the sooner he would accomplish helping the little pink girl, and that was good.
Not that he wasn’t having fun or anything like that. He liked this little game, despite his absurd lack of skill as a energy tracker, but he had been traveling for a while and, although he didn’t like to admit, he was feeling rather tired.
It really was tricky. But that was the fun part in all of this. For her, this exercise was routine, so she hadn't really noticed that Galen might have not been able to keep up with her. Since her new friend was in the air, he was able to move faster than she was, not having any obstacles like the trees in her way.
Although she wouldn't really notice that he was gone. The wildlife around her did a good job at keeping her busy. Even though she still hadn't found her mother anywhere, pushing aside bushes and interacting with nature felt nice. It was almost hard to believe Galen was able to do this kind of thing everyday.
"Eh?! Really? Just up ahead?"
Only after he had pointed out they were close to civilization, had she been able to see what he was saying was true. There was a path around here that could only be created by humanoids, and from constant use. She was happy. So much that she had stopped suppressing her ki, and forward as fast as she could.
Galen was surely following her above, and would likely join her on the ground shortly after. If her mother really was in this village they had found, then she could surely feel her quickly approaching presence. The village she had gone into was a pretty nice place. The atmosphere it gave off, had a certain kind of unity to it, and was certainly relaxing. There were a couple of animals around here too, who seemed to be pretty friendly with the natives.
"Ah, Saeko-chan! Over here!"
That was her mother's voice. She had to go around some of the village's houses, but she had eventually found her mother, sitting by a campfire, and eating some kind of animal meat. As soon as she had seen her, her mother had waved at her, a piece of bone hanging out of her mouth.
"Eh?! You're really eating without Saeko?"

When Saeko asked him if the village was just ahead, he quickly nodded in response. – Yeah! It’s really close! Let’s go! – he said in a highly spirited tone. When the young majin school girl started moving towards the village, Galen followed her by flying up until they reached the village area. Shortly before they managed to enter there, he descended back to the ground, landing just beside her; he didn’t want the villagers to see him flying. Some people would still get shocked with such displays of skills and ki, so he would rather avoid getting unwanted attention.
When they entered the village, the person Galen had spotted earlier was confirmed to be her mother and, upon noticing her daughter, she yelled her name, asking her to approach. The young man kept on following her. ”Since I’m here… Anyway…” he shrugged, deciding not to put much thought into his action and just tagged along. Her mother was eating some steak and that made Galen’s belly to rumble. He touched it with his right hand and stared at his stomach for a brief second. ”Oh boy! I could definitely eat some steak right now… Or maybe bread and cheese, that would be nice too…” he thought to himself. It wasn’t like he was starving to death or anything, but definitely hungry.
Saeko asked if she was eating without her, which was pretty much a rhetorical question, since, well… She was indeed eating without her! Galen couldn’t help but to laugh a bit at the scene: the majin girl surprised her mom was eating without her, while the older majin woman seemed rather casual and easy going about the situation. ”They are fun!” he thought as his laugher became a giggle. He folded his arms as he watched the scene, making sure the drill was really over.
