A public market downtown. That was where she decided to spend her money on, in preparation for her future. The area was crowded and new to her, which meant Haruto could text her all he wanted, but it would take him awhile before he would find her. Which was how she wanted things to be.
If she wanted to keep him, and everyone else she cared about safe, then she would have to leave East City. She had thought this over, and even talked to her parents about this, the day before. After what she's been through the last couple of months, they all agreed she wasn't just a normal high schooler.
She cried her eyes out when it was decided, and although a part of her would always still be sad, she had to think positively. Her friend wouldn't have liked seeing her smile gone, so she had to be strong for him. It wouldn't be easy, but there wasn't any other way. It was just how life worked out for Majins.
She picked up several of the same fruit, staring in awe at how fresh the produce was. How come she hadn't found this place until now? Guess once you get used to a routine, thinking about changing it, doesn't really happen. With how she was admiring the fruit, she wouldn't notice several people had panicked.
They had heard what she had said, and taking it differently due to some awful rumors about her kind, hurriedly ran off. Still, it wasn't likely that they would do more than leave the area, as everyone else who hadn't heard what she said, went about their grocery shopping as normal.
She decided to place the produce, which were a group of bananas, into her shopping basket. Along with some boxes of candy and chicken tenders, her basket was already pretty close to getting full. She hadn't thought she would need more than one earlier, but maybe she was wrong.
This place seemed to have a lot of things her usual grocery store didn't have. And she couldn't help but grab a lot of what she liked to eat. If she wasn't careful, she might not have enough money to pay for it all. Though she would understand, it would still make her sad having to return it. She walked deeper within the market, easily getting through the crowd with her short frame, and humming the market's theme song, as she did.
Zabun walked the aisles of the market, looking for supplies to bring back with him to his spacepod. Got plenty of money now, thanks to that poor sucker in the suit, The purple majin thought to himself as he snatched up a small bag of chips. He glanced around, scanning for cameras or watchful eyes. Seeing he was in the clear, he quickly pocketed that chips and then another bag of chips. Just cause I have it, don't mean I gotta spend it though. His face grew into a malicious grin at this thought.
Unlike last time he went to East City, Zabun had done little to hide his appearance other than wearing a black hoodie that he 'bought'. He still wore the battle armor underneath the hoodie along with the baggy white majin pants, black boots and bracers. He keep his long antenna out in plain sight this time, decorated in the his normal golden rings. His fingers were adorned with ten rings, all of varying make. Long coin like earings hung from the bottom of his ear-holes, and several elaborate necklaces hung on the outside of the hoodie. Only his sword was left in the pod.
Changing aisles, Zabun grabbed so few bottles of soda and stuffed them away into his pockets. The purple majin's pockets were now bulging as he continued to stuff them well various drinks and junk food. Maybe I should get something healthy too. An apple maybe, he thought. Zabun could hear a commotion as he neared the produce section. As he walked out the aisle and turned toward the sounds, several of the shoppers, and even some of the markets employee's, came running past. An older man, with his head turned looking over his shoulder, ran straight into Zabun.
Zabun managed to catch the man before he hit the ground. "Watch out! What's the big ru..." Zabun couldn't finish before the man interrupted with a yell, "Not another one!" The majin cocked his head to the side and, with a curious expression, asked, "Another what?" The man shoved Zabun's arm away and began to plead, "Please, I don't want to be eaten by a majin!" With that, the man turned and ran wide around Zabun. What's this about? Is there another majin in here? Zabun thought as he checked the wallet he grabbed off the man the moment they collided. Empty? Why even bother coming to the store? The majin disposed of the wallet, throwing it over his shoulder, and began to look for this other majin.
Where is this guy at? He must be pretty big and scary to have those people running like that. Wonder if he's pink, or maybe purple like me. Maybe he's got some connections, can get me some 'honest' work. Zabun scanned the area searching for this sizable, and most terror inducing, majin. He looked past the humans, and right over the head of Saeko, not even noticing her as he walked on a collision course right for her.
She wasn't exactly sure, but found herself bumping into someone. With how she had been carrying the shopping basket, a few things had been knocked out, and onto the floor. The pain from falling onto her rear had been disregarded, as she sat on her knees, intent on picking everything up.
Five seconds.
According to anime, that's how much time she had left, before everything went bad. It was mostly boxes of candy and pocky that had fallen out, due to the size of the items. As thankful as she was her chicken tenders were safe, she didn't want anything she had grabbed to suddenly go bad.
Manipulating her limbs, she had swiftly and quickly grabbed what she could, then placed them back into her shopping basket. A couple of the boxes couldn't be saved however, and she could feel her heart aching, and eyes quickly starting to get sad. Still, she picked the 'bad' ones up, intending on still paying for them.
"Saeko's sorry. Saeko must have been too busy humming."
Like a typical Majin, she had the habit of referring to herself in third person. Though it wasn't on purpose. She couldn't actually grasp or hear any difference with the way she referred to herself, and the way anyone else introduced themselves. It all sounded like they were doing the same as her.
That's the weird way perception worked. She hadn't even seen who she had bumped into, due to being intent on picking up her stuff. When she had actually looked up at the person, she was surprised to see another one of her kind. Although he was strangely purple, and wore a lot of rings.
This man would see the sadness in her eyes disappear, but the tears that had formed, she had to wipe away. And after doing so, any trace of that sadness had gone away, and was replaced by a smile. With her free hand, she had gave the man a salute, recognizing how he was much older than her.
"Nice to meet you, mister! Are you shopping before going back to your platoon?"
She was of course, referring to how their kind had a top priority enlistment into the army. With her now being an adventurer, having to enlist in the army was getting closer in reach. Which meant she needed to enjoy life while she could, before the inevitable would happen, and change her.
What just happened? Zabun thought after he was stopped in his tracks after colliding into Saeko. His eyes shot down at the slight thud of something hitting the ground. What is this? Is that a... majin? I know we come in all shapes and sizes, but it's... she's? She's so small. She can't be the one all those people were running from, she? He watched as the young majin gathered her things off the floor. Saeko? Is that her name? The way she talked reminded him of himself, before he had spent the time in free space.Zabun had ignored the rest of her apology. When She looked up at him, he saw a sad expression fade into a smile, but he could see the tears that formed before she wiped them away.
When she saluted him, Zabun began to raise his hand in a similar fashion He stop with his hand in front of his face, looked at it, then at the young majin, and put his hand back down. "Small majin, where is the other one? Was it you they were running from?" He asked her, ignoring her question. He couldn't get past her size. It couldn't have been her. There was something else that peeked his curiosity. "And why were you crying?"
The sound of someone tapping their foot caught Zabun's attention, and it was then that he noticed people were staring. He turned to see the noise; a store employee, an older redheaded woman, was standing there, looking over her glasses and right at Zabun. "What?" he grunted at her. The employee let out a "ahm' as she directed her eyes downward. Zabun displayed a look of confusion as he looked down to see that his pockets were spilling out with the drinks and snacks he had stuffed in them.
The purple majin panicked as he thought what to do. I could run, but then I'd lose my chance to meet this other majin. He looked down at Saeko and then back at the woman, then at Saeko's basket. There we go! Zabun pulled the items from his pockets and quickly shoved them into Saeko's basket. "I was just shopping with my friend here, and just went back to get something I forgot. I was in such a hurry to get this stuff in the basket, I forgot to watch where I was going." Zabun said as he rubbed the back of his head and flashed his mosst charming smile, which happened to look a lot like his usual mischievous grin. The woman gave him a suspicious glare as she slowly turned and walked away.
She was confused. She didn't come here with another one of their kind. She didn't even know any Majins who were her age. So what was this man talking about? She looked around to see if anyone was running, but only saw people going about their business. And why would they run away from her?
She didn't remember entering a hide and seek contest either. Briefly, she stared out into space to think about it, but no matter how hard she tried, she wasn't sure what he meant by people running away from her. Only thing it really did was make her head hurt a bit. Which she didn't like at all.
When the man had asked her why she had been crying, her eyes had lit up. Now that was something she could answer. Frowning like a child, she had shown him several boxes of candy and pocky, which she kept separate from the ones in the shopping basket, since these had gone bad.
"Saeko dropped these. Now they've gone bad because Saeko didn't pick them up quick enough."
She tucked the merchandise underneath her arm afterwards, before hearing some tapping. A woman who had clearly worked here, was glaring at the man she had just met. It was then that she had noticed how he had also dropped something. Of course. He had been shopping too.
She was going to help pick them up, but he had done it faster than she had, and placed his items inside of her basket. Huh? Were they already all out of shopping baskets? She didn't mind sharing, though if they were already out of baskets, then she would have to make a second trip later. The woman had left shortly after the items were placed into her basket, and it took about another moment or so, before she had realized what the man had said.
"Eh? Saeko didn't know we were shopping together. Are you one of daddy's friends?"
It wasn't unusual for her parents, who were both in the military, to randomly introduce her to someone in their platoon. And once she had seen them often enough, she would start calling them her uncles or aunts. Although he hadn't answered her previous questions, she would still believe he was in the military, unless he had stated otherwise.
Zabun felt a mixture of confusion an sympathy at the young majin's response to the question of why she was crying. Is this... is she for real? I gotta tell her. The woman had interrupted before he could correct her. "Pfffft," Zabun blew a raspberry at the woman left following his successful bluff. Take that! Yeah, you better walk away, he thought. He turned his attention back to Saeko in time to see her expression of surprise. Her reaction to his obvious lie caught the purple majin off guard.
Did she really just say that? Did she really just ask me that? Zabun leaned down to meet Saeko eye too eye. He squinted as he stared into her eyes for a moment. After spending almost 22 years in free space among the likes of pirates, smugglers, and degenerates of all kinds, Zabun had all but forgotten how his own kind often behaved. Not only that, but he had almost forgotten what it meant to be a majin on Earth; for him, this meant loneliness. Still, Zabun was stuck on how naive the young majin was, however he saw an opportunity to use it to his advantage.
"Of course, tiny majin, I'm friends with your father. He must have forgotten to tell you that we would be shopping together. Haha, classic... him," Zabun exclaimed loudly, putting on his friendliest voice, "My name is... is... Nubaz!" He straightened up and once again attempted a charming smile; it still came off mischievous. What was that she said before? Plantain? No... Platoon. Military. I can use that, Zabun thought. "I just transfered to your father's platoon. He thought you could help me get a few things, and show me around the city."
Nothing the older Majin had said was suspicious in her eyes. Why would it be? She had no reason not to trust another one of her kind, which was a rare sight for her. If the man had only knew of her past, it would be obvious that despite encountering three hostile beings, two of which who decepted her, she still opened her heart up to trust. But that was who she was, and the reason why inside of the sling bag she wore over her back, her phone was quietly vibrating.
She could hear the phone moving around in there, but didn't bother with answering it. She knew exactly who it was, and picking it up before she got home, would make her sad. Too much to really feel like buying the supplies she needed for this new life of hers. So she just left it, and focused on the Majin in front of her.
"Really? Do you have any stories for Saeko? Saeko's parents always told her about where they've been."
She didn't mention that she had been planning to leave the city, after shopping here. If her dad had asked her to be a tour guide of sorts until Mr. Nubaz had went back to his platoon, then she would gladly stay here for another day or so. They could spend time together, and it'll be like hanging with her parents.
"Ah, did you already get everything you need?"
At one point while her phone was vibrating in her bag, she had subconsciously grab the man's hand and led him towards where the checkout was. But then she had remembered he had said he needed a few things, and had stopped next to a random aisle that stocked drinks.
"HA HA HA," Zabun let out a loud forced laugh when he heard Saeko giggle. His mouth opened abnormally wide, making it all the more awkward. AT this point, even more people were staring, and a few even chose to leave in a hurry. What doesn't scare these humans? Zabun wondered. Hearing the young majin's question, Zabun thought for a second then answered, "Yeah. Yeah, I got some stories. Let's get outta here and I'll tell you about the time I was in free space and I helped capture some pirates."
Zabun felt a small hand grab his own and pull him in the direction of the checkout. Is she really this trusting? I've done a lot worse than lying to some girl, but this just feels low. How long am I gonna keep this up? Saeko had stopped and asked him if he had everything. "Ummm..." He looked around for a second and then grabbed the closest drink he could, which happened to be almost the same shade of purple as him and said, "There we go. I got everything now." Zabun held the 2 liter drink up in the air as he once again walked toward the registers, pulling his hand a way from hers in the process.
As he barged his way through the lines and to a cash register, making sure the path stayed open for Saeko. "This way, tiny majin," he called out to her.
Seeing people hurriedly leave, wasn't a strange sight for her. She just assumed they really had somewhere to go. Before she could even begin to wonder about it any further, the older Majin had answered her question, bringing up that he's been to space, and was able to fight off pirates.
"You must be really high up to afford a spaceship."
Although he didn't tell her much, it was obvious by the tone in her voice, that she was in awe. The only disappointing thing was, he couldn't tell her this story until they had left this place. And looking at the checkout lines, it would probably take awhile. Oh well. She could tell him one of her own stories while waiting.
That had been the plan anyway. But to her surprise, Mr. Nubaz had walked past the people in line, and set the 2 litre drink he grabbed, onto the counter. Was this really okay? She looked at the faces of the people she passed, but didn't see anything unusual. They smiled the same way most people did, before they got to know her. She also remembered reading about how some veteran soldiers, were able to do this kind of thing, because of their experience.
So she happily set her shopping basket onto the counter, next to his 2 litre bottle, before taking off her sling bag. It hadn't taken more than a moment or so for her to pull out several rolls of zeni, wrapped up in a rubber band. Usually two were enough to pay for one of her grocery store trips.
"Let Saeko pay for everything. You're Saeko's guest."
She handed the money over to the cashier, who unwrapped both rolls of zeni, and handed her back the rubber bands. Like the other cashiers she's handed money to, he looked surprised for some reason. It always made her think it wasn't enough, but she's never been told she didn't. Instead, they usually handed her back cash, even though she's never asked for change. This one had acted no different from the others. Their stuff didn't take long to pack either.
Though she remembered to tell the cashier to separate the bad food from the good ones. Maybe later they could go to the park and feed the animals? It wouldn't be the first time this happened, and they turned out okay. Something about the way their stomachs worked, maybe?
She strapped her slingbag over shoulder again, and holding tightly onto the grocery bags, left the market. As soon as she had, she flew up into the air, though waited a bit for the older Majin, before continuing on. They were headed towards her house, since some of the stuff required refrigeration.
"When we get to Saeko's apartment, you can leave your stuff in Saeko's fridge until you go."
She was still looking forward to hearing about that space story.
"I was merely 'borrowing' the ship, for the mission," Zabun told her, though he was cautious not to tell her too much. He wanted to keep moving for now, and to keep her attention for a bit longer, at least. He knew he would have to tell her the story sometime, but luckly he lived it first hand, though from the side of the pirates. A small part of him was looking forward to telling the story, especially after hearing the awe in her voice. Is this what being looked up to feels like?
Zabun's jaw nearly hit the floor when he saw the young majin pull out several rolls of zeni. What is she doing with so much cash? How much more does she have? Maybe this was a good idea after all. Just gotta figure out a why to get that bag away from her. Zabun looked on in disbelief as Saeko offered to pay for everything and handed the rolls over to the cashier. "Thank you, little majin. I'm lucky to be a guest of yours," Zabun replied. Upon hearing her request for the 'bad' food to kept separate, he considered explaining to her that the food was indeed still good, but he couldn't quite get the words out.
When the cashier was done, Zabun grabbed his bags and turned to leave, but this time it was Saeko that led the way. He followed out of the store, though she moved a bit quicker than he did. He saw her lift into the air and followed suite. "Lead the way, diminutive majin," he said upon hearing her offer. Guess this means it's story time.
"It happened a few year's ago," Zabun began, "Near a system that had yet to be claimed. Free Space. We had borrowed a cargo ship which we used to fly routes that we knew pirates often attacked. We had two other ships, with stealth drives on and following at some distance. The pirates used several tricks for luring ships in for an ambush, and the most common one was to wait until a target got close and send out a distress signal. That's exactly what we... I mean they... did this time."
Zabun paused to see if Saeko had noticed his slip before continuing, "Once we locked unto the signal, we found the ship and docked with them. Then we all moved to the cargo hold and waited. The pirates blow open the airlocks, as well as blowing a few holes in the hull of the ship. Most of them flooded the ship, but by the time they got to us in the cargo hold, the other two ships had caught up and began attacking their ship. Our own men blew holes into the pirate ship like they had done to us, and infiltrated, attacking them from the inside. We fought them off of the cargo ship, but they retreated into a trap."
It was a strange sensation for the ex-pirate, having to recall the details from the other side. He of course left out how many people he had killed, and his fight with his fleeing captain and how that ended with him being jettisoned into space. Instead, he chose to end the story on a high note. "The fight lasted for hours, but we out numbered them, and eventually we captured them all, including the captain." Oddly enough, Zabun didn't hope the story was believable, but also impressive to the young majin.
"Ah, well Saeko's sure you're still a good soldier."
It didn't matter to her whether or not the ship was actually his, or just borrowed. Simply hearing that there was one, only made her more excited to hear this story of his. So she hadn't actually noticed how fast she had left the market, until she had heard the older Majin join her up in the air.
When she actually was paying attention to things, doing stuff like calculating the time it took for Mr. Nubaz to join her, wasn't really difficult. Although her concern had quickly been forgotten about, when he had started his story. It wasn't too complicated for her to follow along and imagine.
"So you used a distress signal, and tricked the pirates?"
That's what she had understood from his unintentional slip up. She didn't see anything wrong with that. Pirates had a habit of stealing from what she heard. So the older Majin and his friends going in and stopping them didn't seem wrong to her. Then the story had gotten more violent, once both sides had met.
"Saeko wouldn't be able to hold Saeko's breath that long."
Both ships had gotten damaged, enough to create holes. Remembering that this was in space, she tried to picture herself holding her breath while all the oxygen was going away, but couldn't do it. She actually made herself flinch a bit forward, believing that she had made herself out of breath.
When the story had finally been over, she clapped to the older Majin's story. The dramatic irony she felt when listening to the story, had reminded her of the plays she and her friends came up with, for drama club. So she couldn't help but smile at how nice things had turned out in the end.
"Ah, we're here."
Even without the story to pass the time, it wouldn't have really taken that long to get to her apartment. Like most Capsule Corp related stuff, it had a button somewhere inside, that would turn it back into a capsule. Which meant that it wasn't connected to any other occupants. So it wouldn't be difficult to pack everything up and leave, when she did. She had briefly set her bags down on the welcome mat, before grabbing the key from her slingbag.
"Mr. Nubaz? Did you and the others celebrate with a feast after?"
She had asked the older Majin as she opened the door, and stepped inside, after leaving her shoes in the front. Her sling bag was already back over her shoulder, while the grocery bags were taken to the kitchen, and placed on the counter. Then she turned to the older Majin, both her arms bent upwards, as she looked up at him. She always did this when she was concerned, or simply determined. It was a little bit of both after hearing the story.
"Saeko would be happy to cook for you. Then after Saeko can show you around the city."
That hadn't been a question. She was already strapping on her apron, a new one her friend had bought her not that long ago. Unlike the old one, this one wasn't oversized. Haruto never told her why he bought her this, but she was thankful nonetheless.
Although she still had the old one lying around, incase anyone wanted to help her make anything. She started humming to herself, the tune of Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, as she placed the groceries she didn't need back into the fridge. She already had an idea of what she wanted to make for this feast.
The bags containing the 'bad' food, were left on the counter, with a sticky note on it, saying for the animals.
Zabun was relieved to when he heard the young majin's response to his slip up. Good, good. She fixed it for me, he thought as he continued with his story. He took in the sights as he flew behind her. The older majin had never really spent this much time in this part of the city, as he never had much luck picking pockets here as a child. Still, it looked like nice enough of a neighborhood, and he thought it might be worth returning to, if only to see if his luck had changed.
"Ah, we're here," he had heard his host say. His story finished with almost perfect timing. Zabun examined the outside of the apartment as Saeko unlocked the door. Not to bad a place. Exactly how much money does she have? he thought. She had asked him about a feast as she walked through the door. "Why, yes, we had a great feast. After we got back to earth, of course. We had wild boar, and ostrich chicken. We even had a contest to see who can eat the most. I won," he boasted, all the while thinking to himself, I sure am selling this. He watched as the young took off her shoes and wondered what he was suppose to do considering his shoes were a part of his body.
"I hope you don't mind, I can't really take these off," he said as he vigorously wiped his feet on the welcome mat. Zabun followed the young majin into her home, and then into the kitchen. He was caught off guard when she said she would cook for him. Why is she being so kind? She only just met me. Am I starting to feel... Guilty? Zabun thought to himself before visibly shuddering at the mere thought. He wasn't really looking for a tour of the city, and he started to doubt that Saeko had the kind of information he was looking for.
Looking back over at the young majin, Zabun saw her putting on an apron that, it seemed to him at least, she pulled out of nowhere. He didn't quite know how to feel about this. No one has really just done anything nice for Zabun without wanting anything back, but he didn't feel that was the case with Saeko. Zabun thought hard on what he was going to say next. "Do you need any... Help?" he said, forcing the words out of his mouth. What have I done?
So his feast was like when she went out training with one of her parents. If she knew ahead of time that he was going to be coming, then she would have brought back some pig or something. But instead, they had to settle for some of the smaller stuff humans usually eat for their feasts. She would just have to make do with what was currently in the fridge. When the older Majin had brought up not being able to take off his shoes, she smiled at him.
"Ah, Saeko can do that too. But if Saeko did that, Saeko can't go shopping with friends."
She demonstrated the ability she had assumed he was referring to, by morphing her hands into black fingerless gloves. It was difficult trying to get the color right, but she had done it. Though it only stayed for about a minute or so, before going back to her regular pink flesh.
"See? Saeko sometimes helps her Drama Club friends doing this trick."
Because that's all it was for her. Just a neat trick.
"Eh? Really? You want to help Saeko?"
She was already pouring some broth into a pot when he had asked her, but had stopped when she heard his question. Of course he could help her. There was a lot of work to be done for this feast, which was the only other downside she really saw. If only all food could just be instantly cooked in fire like animals.
She wiped off her hands on her apron, something she had seen in anime and at Cooking Club a lot, before going over to one of the cabinets, where she had kept her old apron. If he wanted to help her out, he needed to wear this for protection. Hopefully it would fit him perfectly.
"You can wear Saeko's old apron. It's still in good condition."
And what she said was true. There didn't seem to be anything wrong at all with the apron. But the way she was holding it out for him, the older Majin would be able to see why her friend had bought her a new one. Much too large for her small frame, and would mislead someone into thinking she didn't have clothing underneath. She wasn't aware of that though, and simply turned back around, going over to the counter top.
There wasn't really a recipe she was looking at to make all of this, but what she remembered all on her own. So grabbing one of the sticky notes she always left on the counter top, she simply wrote down what she had been planning to make for him in this feast.
Snack: Edamame with yuzu sea salt To drink: Japanese beer and Umeshu (plum wine)
Courses:
Miso soup with mussels Tofu with crab sauce Chirashi sushi Miso glazed black cod with sautéed broccoli Yuzu crème brûlée
To drink: A dry and bright sake, served cold
It took one or two to actually write down the whole list, which she handed to him after.
"Saeko is sorry, but Saeko doesn't have any recipes to look at. Just what Saeko remembers."
Then she went back to pouring the broth. Although it might not seem like it, she did actually know what she was doing with all of this. And while pouring the broth for the miso soup, she had given the older Majin instructions on how to start the other stuff. The most simplest one had been the Edamame. Since several of the groceries needed to be rinsed off, that was what the other Majin needed to do first. It would save a lot of time.
Zabun watched as Saeko changed her normal hands into black fingerless gloves, though he did not notice the difficulty she was having with the color. It was strange to him how this majin chose to wear actual clothes rather than simply morphing her flesh. Sure, Zabun himself wore battle armor, and plenty of jewelry, but it was all decoration that he often went without. What's a drama club? Zabun thought. Having never attended school, and spending the last twenty something years in space, he had never heard of such a thing.
Zabun took the apron from the young majin and held it up to inspect it. She wants me to wear this? I guess I asked for this, he thought as he put the apron on. It may had been too large for the small frame of Saeko, but it was obvious when he tied the strings behind his back that the apron was a little small for his large frame. "How's this?" he asked, unsure if he even put it on right. He felt kind of embarrassed that he was even doing this and was even unsure of his own reasoning as to why.
He observed as Seako wrote down her plans for the feast, peeking over her shoulder at the list. Zabun didn't recognize what most of the things on the list were, but the words 'beer' and 'sake' did catch his attention. When the young majin handed him the list, he simply stared at it, raising an eyebrow in confusion. Saeko then gave him some instructions about washing off the beans for the Edamame as she returned to pouring the broth. Zabun had taken what he had assumed to be the beans, and knowing no other way to do it, turned on the sink and held the beans in his hands, trying to rinse them.
"I've told you about one of my battles, so it's your turn. How about it, tiny majin, have you seen any combat?" he asked as he did his best to wash off the beans without dropping them into the sink. He asked this as more of a joke than anything, as he assumed that young Saeko had yet to see battle.
Last Edit: Apr 1, 2016 23:04:13 GMT -5 by Zabun: Fixed the formating.
Her hands were behind her back as she inspected the older Majin, peeking around him, after he had finished putting the apron on. She felt like a general inspecting her soldiers, and even pictured herself wearing the whole uniform, before lightly nodding at him in approval.
"Ah, it looks good."
Although she had noticed the apron didn't exactly cover his larger frame, she didn't see it as abnormal. She only knew that when cooking something, you needed to wear an apron, which he had done.
Having gone back to pouring the broth a bit after her inspection, it wasn't until she went and exchanged the edamame with mussels, did the other Majin reminded her of something she had forgotten.
She pursed her lips into a pout as the image of that man came into her mind, soon followed by his hysterical laughter. It made her uncomfortable, and it showed on her face, but still, she had nodded.
"Uh huh. When Saeko was on vacation in the Southern Islands, Saeko had left the village for weekly training. Then after eating some buffalo, and taking a break, Saeko was attacked by a Kold Demon."
She looked up at him, forgetting all about her cooking. So far, she hadn't managed to cry, as she silently told herself that her other encounters had been much worse. But that was a huge lie.
The older Majin should have been aware what Kold Demons were, since that entire race had been seen as a rival to their own, by some. Although she still went on to describe the creature anyway.
"He had a big lizard tail, and his armor grew spikes when he changed. Saeko's only in high school, but he didn't care, and said Saeko would die. Then he kept laughing at Saeko, and fired a lot of beams from his fingers. Saeko tried to punch them away, but he was too strong, and Saeko had to regenerate."
Her storytelling was far from the level of the older Majin's, and she had left a few things out that she forgot about, like how she had willingly stayed in order to keep the village safe.
But in her perspective, she had mentally lived through the experience again, which was why she found herself crying by the end of the story. She wiped away her tears after, and slowly went back to cooking.
It wouldn't take long for the young Majin to go back to her previous mood.
