With the paozusaurus out for the count, Hwa-Jae casually walked away as she waited for Kai to do his part of the job. Kai seemed to have picked up on all the lessons she imparted by first focusing his ki and then creating a sharp blade made of his own ice. She maintained a steady stance as she watched Kai take to the air and drop his frozen edge on the paozusarus' tail, slicing a large meaty portion of it off. While a part of her did feel bad about resorting to such tactics to feed herself, Hwa-Jae understood that it was the way of things. If she did not have her strength, the dinosaur would have eaten her without a second thought.
At the sight of the large portion Kai sliced off, Hwa-Jae licked her lips. That kind of meat would last well up to Mount Frappe and maybe even afterwards. She took the meat from Kai and said, "Don't worry about him. Remember, he was just as likely to eat you, me, and Koge if not for the fact I used my powers. It wasn't fair from the start, but a sneak attack would have been less so. In a few weeks his tail will grow back and he might even shy away from attacking earthlings from now own after getting whipped by one."
Hwa-Jae then looked around for some sticks to make a cooking fire with for her dino steak. Once she found some suitable branches with the help of Koge, she made a large pile of wood and positioned some of the thicker branches to hoist the steak up. She then removed the centre tail bone and stuck a large stick in the middle. Opening her palm, Hwa-Jae created a hinotama and launched it wood, sparking a roaring fire to cook the meat. Indeed, she was quite pleased to have taken those survival lessons from Elder Sister Pyya. They worked out quite well.
"Koge," Hwa-Jae said to the hikui bird, "Can you watch the meat and turn the centre stick when the steak goes dark? Help me out, and I'll let you eat the fire."
Koge perked up at that offer. "Sure thing!" He said. Hwa-Jae then beckoned for Kai to join her away from the fire. They would need a lot of room for what she had planned next.
"While dinner is cooking, I would like to see if what I've helped instruct to you stuck in your head." Hwa-Jae cracked her neck to keep it limber and then bowed to Kai. "I want to see you put your ki into more practical applications. Come at me as if this was a serious training exercise. If you hold back at all, I'll know, and then I'll have to be one who ramps things up. And that would make me cranky and you wouldn't like me when I'm cranky."
Her palms raised, she prepared herself for Kai's attack. "Come on then, Kai! Show me you've be listening!"
Jae's response to Kai's pity for the beast had a fair counter answer. Even though the beast had run away in a fit of sadness, it was blatantly obvious that had they not put the Dinosaur in its place, it would have caused Jae injury or even her death if it could have. "You're right, better it than you. I can see now why you thought that the who stealthy approach would have been pointless. It has to be said though, the strength you have is eye opening, Hwa-Jae. If I ever want to be able to find my parents out among the stars I'm gonna have to strive to be as strong as you are or stronger!" He gave her a grin as he leaped off to find the sticks she would need to hoist the meat up.
Upon Kai's return, Jae did her thing and ignited the neatly placed pieces of wood with a fireball, bringing the fire to life with a roar of flames. The snow haired boy made sure that he stood back and kept his hands placed behind his back in fear that his icy instincts for danger might extinguish the flames as he had done the first time Jae and him had met. With the fire going and warmth pulsing from it's bright orange flames, the idea of rest and relaxation came to mind considering their recent victory and all. But like an undying flame, Jae had another exciting idea. She issued an order for Koge to continue turning the meat as she stood up. The flame ostrich quickly responded with a yes at the prospect of being rewarded with his favorite meal.
While the fire bird rotated the skewered, Dino tail, steak, Jae turned her attention to the ice user and cracked her neck. She wanted to see if he had absorbed the things she had taught him and if he could possibly prove it through a visual demonstration in combat. Kai seemed taken back by the sudden challenge but seeing her take on the beast before with such a calm head and remembering his lesson with his master, he looked forward to seeing what he could achieve with his new strength and powers.
She urged him on to attack with everything he had and if he did not, he would simply be digging himself into a hole. "Alright then, Everything I've got." He smiled as he took a position across from her. His feet slide out in a wide stance providing him with balance. His back heel raised off the ground and his front foot followed in accordance with a similar fashion, rising the heel only slightly. Taking a deep breath, Kai's left hand rose but his palm remained open. His right hand stayed down showing a strong sign of defense for his abdomen despite it being open palm like his left hand. A chuckle escaped him as his aqua eyes began to glow. "I realize that I stand no chance even at my full strength, I can already tell, but this will be exciting!" The young man bounced on the balls of his feet before lunging forward. His right arm cocked back and balled into a fist before swinging past his shoulder in a hook aimed at her chin. His follow up would be a strike from below as his left fist would tuck in at his side and swung up as an uppercut to her abdomen.
His movements were flowing yet they had the sharpness of a shard of ice or icicle. Visibly his ki began to seep through , a bright aqua aura ignited at his feet and over his fists as he moved about. The main physical aspect it was improving was his speed, causing him cut through the air like an arrow would when traveling towards it target.
Hwa-Jae looked forward to this test of Kai's abilities. She had not yet fought anyone unique besides the robotic minions of Don Rosquillo and the Don himself, but that did not count as the kind of training she sought. Robots were not skilled martial artists but giant metal brutes. This was to be a test with someone with a thinking mind. The question was if Kai could use his cunning, his skills, and the new knowledge she bestowed on him. If Kai didn't, he'd be eating a lot of snow.
However, it seemed Kai was more observant of the power gap between them than she thought. Observance was fine, but perception was everything. If he did not look past the gap, he would hold back due to hesitation. If he hesitated, there was a chance he would not learn properly.
As Kai reared up to try to knock her chin with a strong punch, Hwa-Jae moved her head just slightly away, letting the punch whiff by her through the air. She could see and feel him bringing hi ki to bear in an effort to match her, but he wasn't pushing enough. As he swung again towards her midsection, Hwa-Jae brought her left hand forwards the fist and caught it in her hand, stopping the momentum of his punch cold in mid-air.
"You really are a quick learner," Hwa-Jae said in praise, "It makes me wonder what you truly learned in your Yuki Temple. That said, I can still feel you are holding back, hesitating. You need to push all thoughts of pain, fear, and defeat out of your head, or your motions will be slow, sloppy, and worst of all, predictable. Forget the disparity between us. Place this one truth in your subconscious; you will not be hurt in this contest, but if I feel I cannot teach you properly, I will react accordingly."
To prove her point, Hwa-Jae pushed Kai's hand away and then lashed out with a spinning round house kick which took aim at his right arm. Her foot swung in the air like a wrecking ball, meant to push Kai away and toss him into the snow.
The spar was underway and in Kai's own mind, he felt focused and ready. He put everything he could into his strikes, at least he thought he did. Jae on the other hand, felt differently about it. She showed true speed by dodging his first strike by mere millimeters. Kai's ki infused fist caused air to blow Jae's hair back, but it quickly adjusted to the flow of her body.
{I'm still not fast enough... Faster!} He pushed himself further with the swing to Jae's abdomen but it was expertly stop by her hand. It was unable to follow through into the pit of her belly with it's momentum being stopped dead in it's tracks. The ice user grit his teeth at the sight of his failure to keep up with her but he stayed focused, taking her words to heart. She was rooting for him but he needed to push himself to his limits and beyond. If he wanted to earn her true respect as a fighter and a warrior, he needed to show that he was willing to go further than the extent of his limits. He needed to set aside all his feeling of fear and doubt and believe in his own abilities by forgetting the gap between them. If he could not do it, Jae promised to take things into her own hands and push his mind to the edge by force.
With lightning fast movements, Kai struggled to even see where Jae was as she retaliated with a well placed spinning round house kick aimed at his right arm. {FASTER!} Thinking on his toes, ice formed from his right arms pores and created a solid skin over his limb, protecting it from the impact. Her leg smashed into the ice causing shards of ice to break from the ice cast, revealing his arm beneath. A sweat drop trailed down his cheek as his eyes went wide in suprise. If her kick had made contact, it would be an understatement to say that it would have done damage.
"You want me to push harder... and.. I WILL!" A short pillar formed beneath his feet and shot him into the air with momentum. Doing just as Jae had taught him, he projected his ki and harnessed it to the palm of his hand. A bright blur orb formed and was fired towards Jae. As the sphere tore through the air, Kai's eyes glowed a neon blue causing his ki blast to frost over with ice particle. If it hit it's target, it would more than likely have a stinging after effect. "No holding back" he said with a smile as he flipped mid-air and landed neatly on his one knee in the snow, his eyes still trained on his opponent.
Hwa-Jae gave a small smile as Kai finally took their bout seriously. He had a quick mind and froze the air around him to create a thick second skin. It was enough to save his arm from her kick as her foot collided with the ice, shattering it on impact, but not touching the arm. He showed that he could use his ki in creative ways beyond simple blasts and icicles, which was good, as she was not exactly letting him off easy in their training. Hwa-Jae used the Elder Sister Pyya method of training as it was the only one she knew; it was harsh and gruelling, but the results were true.
To show his creativity more, Kai pushed off the ground with one of his ice pillars so he could launch himself high into the air. Hwa-Jae watched as he prepared a ki blast of both energy and biting ice. Her eyes narrowed as the blast took shape, then launched towards her. The blue blast hurtled towards her until it slammed right into her body, bursting in a explosion of blue light and icicles that burst all around her.
Hwa-Jae felt the chill in her bones. Maybe taking the blast was not the best idea. She only managed to resist the brunt of the damage with her own ki, yet she just stood still and took the pain from the blast. She shuddered from the icy winds that whipped all around her, but still managed to stand tall. Taking a deep breath of brisk air, Hwa-Jae steadied herself as the snow cleared, her gaze still narrowed on Kai.
"Good job," Hwa-Jae said in praise, "I felt that one. Now let's see how you handle this."
Raising her hand, Hwa-Jae delivered a knife-edge chop to the pillar Kai used earlier. With a crack that formed through the base, the pillar began to creak and shake as it started to fall over only for Hwa-Jae to catch it. Both hands on the pillar, Hwa-Jae lifted the massive ice and held it like a baseball bat. She then swung the pillar at Kai with great strength yet surprising speed, wondering what he was going to do with this particular challenge.
*** Sisters fell all around Pyya as they tried to charge at Cineza, yet one by one each was slain by a single powerful blow. Cineza shocked Pyya by revealing a magnitude of power the Elder sister did not think was possible. How long had she been holding this power back in their training? And why did she unleash this power on the Temple? Kasai Guardians Pyya trained and knew since her younger days fell from single blows to the chest or strikes to the neck. It was a massacre.
The worst part was that Pyya could do nothing to stop it. Cineza moved with such strength and speed that every time Pyya moved to counter her, Cineza simply pushed her away. She toyed with Pyya like a cat with a cornered mouse while she murdered the Kasai, keeping her from defending the temple proper. Frustration and despair began to mount as she saw more Guardians give their lives in a mad attempt to stop the Rogue Kasai.
Forcing her ki out around her in a shell, Pyya created her signature technique around the remaining sisters and Old Master Fuega. It was a desperate move meant to keep Cineza off of them while they charged their ki. However, Cineza merely laughed at Pyya's attempt.
"So... predictable!" Cineza clenched her fists and then applied a single punch to Pyya's Groys Shol barrier. To Pyya's horror, the barrier cracked, then shatter into a mess of dissipating ki. No one had ever broken her barrier, yet here was Cineza breaking it in a single blow.
Cineza advanced on the remaining sisters with a feral smile. "The old woman is coming with me. Now we end this, Pyya."
Kai watched as Jae remained dead still, not so much as making a single effort to move harms way from his attack. Seeing how she face the idea of pain with the same calmness she had in the sight of danger, amazed. Kai found himself stunned by how little damage his attack had done to her when he could see her through the settling snow of his attack. Even with the head on attack she had just taken, Jae continued to show her faith in Kai's abilities through praise, but the short victory he had would be exactly that, short. "I didn't think you would just tank it... I can see that it caused hardly any damage to you but if you feel in need of a break, we can take one." Kai couldn't exactly tell if his comment was him simply trying to be polite or if doubt still hid in certain points of his mind.
The novice Kasai warrior wasted no time in continuing the fight. Seeing her focus and serious facial expression, was enough of an answer and because of it, no words where needed in response. Kai quickly climbed to his feet and got back into his usual stance which amplified his focus on balance. "Whoa..." The Ice user's eyes went wide from shock at her ability to cut a pillar of ice with nothing but her hands. {Manipulating ones own ki to add to the speed and sharpness of the strikes. There must be hundreds of various techniques that fighters can perform.} Kai's mind snapped back to the fight at hand when the twinkling of ice began to shine across his eyes. He squinted to get a better view of what it was but, it was easily recognized the closer it got, despite the speed it was traveling.
"Uh-oh" Just like the last attack he was faced with, Kai found himself in dire need of a solution. With his palms open as if holding up a patter, he raised them up, causing a wall of ice to form from the ground. {This should to work right? A solid wall made of Ice is more than enough to stop-} A loud crack was heard before Kai was knocked in the head. The snow haired boy was sent tumbling and skipping across the snowy tar rain. A wince of pain escaped his vocal chords while slowly picking himself back up.
Looking back over at the wall he had conjured up. About head height where Kai had been standing seconds ago, the piece of pillar Jae had thrown, penetrated directly through the wall. It was the very reason a small crimson line of blood began to trail from the cut on his head. The blood began to stain his hair as he rose up off the floor. His stumbling showed the slight dizzied and dazed feelings which pounded in his head. When he found his feet, he looked over at Jae and gave her a smile. "You've got quite the throwing arms" He joked while holding the cut on his head. "I get the feeling you want to see if your hair color would suit me... how do I look? think I could pull it off?" he snickered as he showed the blood stained side of his hair before dropping back into his stance. Despite the pain he was feeling, he managed to keep a very calm mind and remained optimistic over the odds. "Now then, jokes aside let get back into this." A toothy grin was seen as he decided his next approach.
With the use of flight, he tore across the battlefield. Snow from the ground erupted into the air behind him in the form of a wake. Closing the gap between himself and Jae, he thrust his palm out towards her followed by slamming it shut into a fist. The reason behind this was to occupy her eyes while ice began to form over her feet , locking her in place. A meter away from Jae and Kai lept over her head with a flip. Mid tumble, both of his feet would kick back like a horse, the kicks aimed at the back of her skull.
Kai did not expect Hwa-Jae to simply take her blast, but then most people outside of those she trained with knew what she was capable of. Those unfamiliar with the Kasai underestimated them as simply females living in a restricted conclave. They did not know about the power of the Kasai, about their training to harness their ki and the ability to manipulate fire. As strong as the blast was, it paled in comparison to the kind of power Hwa-Jae to could dish out herself and have taken from her training partners and mentors.
That same underestimation was clear in Kai's face as she swung the pillar at him. Though he was able to make a reasonable defence with his ice abilities, the pillar struck the wall and tore it down as quickly as it came. Trying to block the pillar did nothing for Kai, only slowing it down and causing a slight injury to Kai. There was a small cut along the hair line and thanks to his already white hair, the blood from the cut mixed with the hair giving it a white tinge. While Kai made jokes, all Hwa-Jae could do was stare him down.
"Maybe you're the one who needs the break," Hwa-Jae said, both in reply to his joke and to his earlier comment. "Besides, the white fits with the whole ice theme. I think I rock the the red much better."
Hwa-Jae then gave a slight smirk. "Then again, I'm not a natural red either." That surprised folks, but true. She was naturally a brunette but when the Kasai was awakened within her, her hair turned red for whatever reason. Old Master Fuega never could explain why beyond "the will of the Kasai." She did not mind; she thought the red hair was pretty.
Once Kai resumed the fight, he hurtled through the sky using his new found powers of flight. Once again Hwa-Jae had to be impressed with his ability to learn new techniques so quickly and apply them so well. The sky was truly the limit for one such as him. If Hwa-Jae could have a hand is his development as a martial artist then she could feel fulfilled. Then she felt her boots get cold and as she looked down, her feet were frozen to the snow.
"Clever," Hwa-Jae muttered as her ki began to rise.
Yet as she prepared for the inevitable strike, Kai leapt over her head. She smiled, realizing just how cunning her sparring partner showed himself to be. It would have been a good strike if Hwa-Jae was not overtly familiar with such tactics herself. As he neared her, she let loose the ki she built up in a burst wave that pushed every everything from the snow, the ice that formed on her boots and of course Kai as far from her as possible.
Once distance was established, Hwa-Jae raised both of her palms towards Kai. "I've not yet used my own abilities," she explained, "but now I'm curious how your cunning and creative use of ki will handle the living flame of the Kasai!"
Her palms began to collect ki in the form of two orange orbs that ignited into her signature hinotamas. The fireballs then grew to the size of basketballs, the flames roaring and crackling against her gloves. Her eyes narrowed as she focused on Kai when she willed the technique to fire. The two fireballs streaked across the ground, large tongues of flame sailing towards Kai with reckless abandon.
She had to admit it, she was enjoying herself. A good spar always got the blood boiling.
Strangely enough, Kai found Jae to be a lot more "no nonsense" when it came to fighting. She made a point though, red definitely was not his color and the white hair suited with his whole icy attribute. Jae on the other hand had a much better look in comparison. Kai was stunned to hear that her natural hair color wasn't in fact red. He found it difficult picturing her with any other hair color. Finding out this fact had him rethinking the whole possibility of Elemi's being born with hair color's which represented the color of the attribute they where specifically associated with.
"I'll agree with you there. Couldn't picture you with any other hair color..." He commented softly before moving in for his next plan of attack. It looked as though his plan would work. The ice crackled as it encapsulated her boots stopping her from having any chance of going free(Or so he thought). With her locked in place, the final objective would be to simple. Go in for the strike and catch her off guard with a backwards kick. Something the ice user forgot to take into account was the fact that while Jae was titled as a novice, she had a lot more knowledge of the use of ki and it's many useful forms.
Of course when he saw her smirk out of the corner of his eye, he realized that his plan had a fault. Before he could think of what it could exactly be, His body was hit by a wave of invisible energy which was expelled from Jae's body. Kai was sent hurdling through the air like a badly thrown football. He gritted his teeth and flailed his arms about trying to slow the tumble when he summed up his ki and stopped himself with the power of flight. "Damn, that was one hell of a move." He clutched his head and tried to sooth the dizziness which befell him, unbeknownst to the fact that Jae was not done with her show of excellence.
The ice user slowly turned and descended to the floor, finding it difficult to keep any focus on flying with the throbbing from his head. He had no time to rest though as Jae explained that she hadn't used any of her offensive techniques. It took a moment for Kai to shake the dizzy feeling from his mind and actually think about the spar so far. Apart from her small uses of ki which she used in order to create attack and defensive opportunities, she never actually projected her ki into the form of an attack.
Kai quickly got back into a defensive stance as Jae issued the threat of her next attack. Fire ignited in her palms in the spherical shape of ki blasts. Something he did notice was the fact that just like him, her eyes glowed a bright neon of the element she willed. With a hefty thrust, the orbs of flame where sent forth, burning the cool air creating a light mist to stay in the air behind the fire balls. This mist brought an idea to Kai's mind. Cut her visibility off and force her to use ki sensing, of course this would work both ways. Kai smirked and rushed towards the hinotama's and with a short distance between him and a possible fatal injury, his hands moved to the front of his chest and gave a single clap causing the multitude of snow on the ground to kick up into the air. A blizzard of snow hug in the air like a thick fog, engulfing the flame blasts which Kai swiftly side stepped at the second in order to keep his speeding momentum.
He cast out his ki and kept a lock on the fire user. Like a speed demon, Kai emerged from the very place of the fireballs entry. Using every piece of knowledge to his advantage, Kai used his ice powers to smooth out the floor in front of him allowing him to ski forward as if on skates. His speed and momentum allowed him to close the gap between him and his opponent. He laughed with joy at the fun he was having in that moment. His face visibly showing his excitement as he performed a baseball slide in order to knock Jae's legs out from under her.
Hwa-Jae watched as her fireballs sailed towards Kai, eager to see how he would counter this attack. The hinotamas were not very strong, all things considered. They were more glorified concussive bursts wrapped in a light flame to keep with her own expectations. The heat was still real, as evidenced by the vapours that rose from the air from the snow that melted thanks to the hinotamas.
And still once more Kai revealed his ability to learn quickly by clapping his hands and using a shock wave of ki that kicked up the snow around them in a small miniature blizzard. With visibility shot, Hwa-Jae needed to use her ki senses to keep track of Kai. She was once again impressed as she only just demonstrated the ability to produce an expression of sheer force and Kai simply learned it on the spot. He was sharp, perhaps even a fighting genius as thanks to his expression of ki, it was even harder to detect him with her senses.
However, he still had a long way to go. The blizzard did not carry within itself the howling winds often associated with such. Because of this, Hwa-Jae never lost her ability to hear Kai. While she was glad he was enjoying himself, his laughter gave his position away as clear as day. He needed to learn that everything was important in a battle: feet positioning, strength of attacks, even breathing mattered as they all added up to the sum of a battle. Because of this fatal flaw, Hwa-Jae could prepare a suitable counter-attack.
Hearing Kai coming, she narrowed her eyes and saw his silhouette in the blizzard. He slid low on the ice he produce with great speeds, aiming to take out Hwa-Jae's legs from under her. A good tactic, as it would drop Hwa-Jae to the ground and completely remove her offence and mobility as well as reducing her defences.
However, thanks to him being low, she was able to counter easily. She simply raised her boot so it was high enough to meet his face.
As she put her foot back down, Hwa-Jae released another small force of ki from her body, pushing the snow away from her. "I think we got as far as we can today," she said, "I have to say I am greatly impressed with your quick learning. You managed to use all of the lessons in ki I taught you in a day. If you continue your training, the sky is the limit. Maybe even past that. I can feel you have incredible potential."
"It is a shame though I couldn't use the full extent of my power simply because of the region though," Hwa-Jae continued, "I would have taken off my weighted clothing to use my full strength. It wouldn't have been appropriate in this climate though, and might have been excessive. Anyway, you should look into weighted clothing. It will help your training greatly, though it will bog you down."
Hwa-Jae then went over to the fire where Koge watched the meat and checked on her supper. The meat was cooked to perfection, just the way Hwa-Jae liked it. She tossed Koge a fireball in his waiting beak as a reward for his patience and for waiting on the meat. She picked up the spit and held it aloft for Kai to see.
"Come on, Kai!" she called out, "Dinner's on!"
As she sat down and tore off a piece of the steak, she looked towards Mount Frappe once more. Soon, she thought, soon I will challenge you.
*** Pyya held her head as she leaned against the cold stone of the pyramid. They were all dead. All of the Kasai Guardians were slaughtered to a woman by Cineza. It was not the Black Fire Witch that took them down, but by a traitor in her service, a rogue Kasai. Cineza incapacitated the Old Master too and now chased Pyya to the halls underneath the Grand Pyre. No, chased meant there was a sense of urgency. Cineza stalked Pyya in the halls. The Elder Sister cursed as she stumbled in the dark. She could not unleash her potential as something, some force prevented her. There was only one option left.
Pulling a stone key from within her uniform, she placed the key in the proper hole and twisted. The great stone doors opened to reveal the base of the Grand Pyre, the flame that lived throughout the history of the Kasai. She just needed it's power and she would have the ability to transform further. More than enough to defeat Cineza and avenge the Kasai.
"Hwa-Jae..." Pyya muttered, thinking of her student and now the last of the Kasai. As she drew power from the Grand Pyre, she continued. "Please survive, become strong and rebuild the Kasai. I'm sorry I was not strong enough to protect our Sisters!"
"She'll be joining you soon enough."
Pyya turned to see Cineza standing in the doorway. Already she felt her rage boil beneath her skin, but then the stone door began to lower itself.
Cineza smirked. "Good bye, Pyya. I'd say I would miss you, but that would be a lie. This pyramid will be your tomb. I know you can't unleash the Wildfire State, so I imagine your death will be slow and excruciating. More than you deserve, really."
Pyya roared with bestial strength as she threw herself to the stone door as it closed, but then felt a tinge in her body. She needed the fire, hungered for, it, and had to defend it. Her thoughts of the Kasai, of Hwa-Jae, and the Old Master vanished as she huddled around the Grand Pyre as it shrunk it size and stature. As her own body took a new shape, the only thought that remained was that the Flame needed her, and she needed it...
Kai wasn't entirely sure his plan would work. It seemed like a good idea counting in the fact of the speed at which he managed to move. If he had made the correct decision, he could sweep Jae's legs out and perform an attack while her guard was down. However, the outcome was... anything but successful. Kai found his face stuck beneath the boot of the fiery red head. Mind you, at that speed, colliding with anything would not have been very comfortable, the fact that it was his face and the underside of a boot causing his unrelenting momentum to come to a grinding halt, only proved this point. "Owww..." A muffled groan escaped his lips from beneath the rubber sole of her boot. Thankfully Jae was quick to remove her foot and place it back down on the ground.
With a blank expression on his face and a boot print on his cheek, Kai sat up as a wave of ki was expelled from the fire user, causing snow to blast away from them both. As Kai rose to his feet, Jae suggested that they end the spar for the day. Kai couldn't complain as he caressed his pink cheek with a hand. The embarrassing end to their fight however was placed out of Kai's mind when Jae said that she was impressed with how well he had performed. Hearing her words made him smile. She had faith that he could be a great fighter. While he was not looking to be the greatest fighter in the world, he was trying to become strong enough to be able to find his mother and father. That didn't change the fact that he always enjoyed learning and bettering himself even from the start. One day he would find his parents, if he just so happens to become one of the worlds strongest fighters in the process, he would remain humble to the title. "Thank you, I may have talent but I owe you for more than a little. Without you I'm sure it would have taken me double or triple the length of time to have learned what I have today." he offered her a smile.
When the topic of her strength came up, he looked at her once again with wonder. That entire time she was holding back. She tanked his blast and performed attacks that rocked his skeleton. If that was the result of her holding back, a full power punch or ki attack could be devastating. It was then that she suggested using weights for training, something Kai had never thought of. The extra weight added to training could allow him to put more strain on the body but at the same time it would develop strength and speed once they where removed, a brilliant idea. "I'll look into getting some as soon as I can. Maybe the next village I pass through will have some."
As he fixed his rather rowdy hair, Jae called him over to the fire to which he quickly made his way over and took a small portion from the steak, taking a seat besides her as they ate. He dug into the small piece of steak on his stick before stopping and turning to Jae. "Ah... I wish I could repay you in some way, Jae. I really am thankful for what you've taught me today. You where a big help." he paused and for a few seconds he remained dead silent while his cheeks began to burn a light pink. Maybe he was sick?
His arms wrapped around her in an embrace before he slowly pulled away with a soft smile. "Please be safe on your travels up the mountain, Jae. I want to see you again sometime, maybe then I can show you how strong I've gotten."
As Hwa-Jae chewed on a peice of meat, she watched as Kai recovered from their short spar. The meat tasted good, though she wished she had some of Sister Smoulde's sauce she used with most of her meat dishes. Once again she found herself homesick and hoped she could return to the Temple soon. Perhaps after Mount Frappe should visit the temple and see how everyone was doing. She'd like to see Old Master Fuega, Cineza, and even Elder Sister Pyya once more. Hopefully the Black Fire Witch had not revealed herself while she was away.
Kai made a quip about if he had not met Hwa-Jae, it would have taken him twice or thrice as long. Hwa-Jae chuckled at that. "So it would have taken you fifteen minutes instead of five," she quipped, "You'll be fine so long as you keep up with your training. Remember to do at least some light exercises everyday and eat well. Train your body to get used to the new energy that surges through you. When we next meet, we'll have a proper rematch and you can show me your true potential."
As Koge ate up the large large fire used to cook the dino steak, Hwa-Jae went about packing the rest of the cooked meat, leaving some for Kai. Once her gear was packed up, she saw Kai had turned pink in the face again. "You should go see a doctor, you're red in the face. It might be a fever. But it was nice to meet you as well, Kai. I hope we can meet again soon one day. If you are ever in the western regions, come visit the Kasai Temple! Hopefully I'll be back by then."
Finished with his fiery buffet, Koge stood up, ruffled his feathers, and delivered a playful peck to Kai. "See you later, ice guy," Koge said with a smirk.
With her bags packed and slung over Koge, Hwa-Jae waved at Kai as one last goodbye. She then mounted the hikui bird and the two began their trek towards Mount Frappe. Their journey needed to continue and while Hwa-Jae was glad to meet a new friend, she still needed to focus on protecting her current family.
