It took a bit to get out of the jungle. Not because she wasn’t strong or anything; Excalibur would prove her otherwise. This unexplained feeling made her body feel numb to the sensation of power. Griselda didn’t possess the energy to just… fly out. Jetlag, on the multiversal level. It was inevitable that the young woman would finally stumble onto an old path. Something better for direction than just going one way, she decided to go down one way. Some ways down, she noticed the forest parting. The trees becoming more sparse at the trail’s end. - Should be close if this is a proper clearing. - Griselda thought to herself as she finally approached this trail’s end. Or beginning, depending on how you saw it. The clearing was expected, and the large buildings came into view not far away. Something was off though. The lost one peered at the distant city with speculative eyes, slowing her pace down to a crawl. What was wrong, one might ask? Well…
It looked nothing like Earth’s cities. Not how she remembered them. The buildings looked vaguely of Earth Architecture but they were… So big, more boxy and industrial. More… mixed with other stuff. The young woman had seen her fair share of alien planets, but this didn’t look anything like what Griselda saw prior.
“What the…” “[Excalibur!]” She first spoke aloud, then projected her thought towards her sentient sword, confused. “[What time did we get sent to? This doesn’t look like the past, it looks like an alien metropolis. If so, that doesn't make sense. Earth would have been gone.]” Unknown to the entirety of her universe, the possibility of a multiverse was beyond her knowledge. The hesitant voice of Excalibur took a few seconds to react, carefully denoting the obvious fact that the animals were still VERY earthy.
“[It is unclear. All I can gather is that this is in fact Earth. The forests, the fauna. This has remained unchanged.]” Griselda waved off the thought for the moment and just picked up pace. One way to find out, and that was going up to the place itself. “[. . . And you already know what to do.]”
“[Learning every day, aren’t I?]”
- Heavens, what… is this place? Everything’s so big. - The woman and her talking sword were coming up next to the main highways into the city. The buildings looked daunting from afar, but this close… it was stressing her out. Griselda was getting anxious, hugging close to sides of these buildings when she started on the nearest sidewalk she could find into the city. "['I think I'm going to be sick...]“
“[Not used to them this big, huh? The refugee camps had the people squander in filth and disposable tents. The cities of our galaxy’s neighbours were reserved for the planet’s citizens. Usually.]” The sword seemed to have some sort of spite for that, not that it really mattered at this point. “[Even then, the cities were not this big, typically.]” It was then a loud, audible grumble came from Griselda’s stomach. It had been quite a while since she had a good meal.
“[`I think I’ll stop by a buffet or something, if they have those. It’s been years since I had a properly cooked meal from someone not Lucius or, heaven forbid, that janky ‘chef’ they assigned us.]” A few people looked her way as her stomach grumbled, but nothing more. They were all used to the sight of sword-wielding fanatics it seemed.
“[With what money? Hehehe.]” The sword seemed to telepathically laugh at the thought of getting food; She didn’t have anything on her other than the clothes on her back and the sword at her side.
“[Hmm… I wonder how much a holy sword with a prestigious history goes for in the market at these times.]” While light-hearted, the two seemed to bicker like this from time to time. The sword gave an exaggerated gasp.
“[You wouldn’t dare!]” Cali seemed to be joking, but there was a sting of spite in there.
“[Then you better be finding me a way to get money so I can eat. Maybe a strip club?]”
“[Come now, not with my body.]”
“[Your body? You’re a sword.]”
“[Touche]” As they continued their idle joking to distract her from the anxious feeling of being in the city. Passing by various people, just trying not to bump into any of them. A few minutes into the city and the young woman spotted something she could use without looking awkward. A street vendor was handing out some sort of advertisement for an anniversary, for free of course. That’s not the thing she could use, per say, but what he was saying was the more interesting bit.
“Come get ‘em! Limited-edition bottles of lotion for the tenth anniversary of Banana-Smooth beauty products!” It was some dork in a, kid you not, banana costume. Must have run the budget with that one. Could explain why they couldn’t afford bigger advertising on boards or something. “Founded in the age of 1576, Banana Smooth has been -” The rest of what he had to say seemed to blur as Griselda slowed her pace once again. 1576?!
“[I’m not crazy or anything, right? The guy said 1576. Age 1576.]”
“[Well, you’re still crazy, but yes. He did say that.]” Griselda started clenching her fists. Hard.
“[It’s 1586. What. The. Hell.]”
