The sun lazily rose over the Earth in the sky, casting warming rays upon the forest underneath it. Birds chirped as they flew between the trees as the animals living on the forest slowly woke up from the night's slumber. As the forest came to life, as the animals within started their daily ritual of life, something foreign and wrong intruded upon the sanctity of the woods with deadly intentions. All that herald the being's entrance of the forest was insect-like clacking and the sudden silencing of a low flying bird. This was the only warning the many inhabitants that Mito had arrived in his new home and was quite eager to meet his new neighbors, for he was very hungry from the journey to this forest.
Mito clacked his jaws together in anticipation of exploring the forest as his tail slowly curled back up under his carapace after finishing the unfortunate bird off. It was a especially fat and well fed specimen of that species, which might have been why it was flying just low enough to be in range of Mito tail, and was incredibly delicious to the bio-android. If this was the average animal of the forest then Mito was going to have a very, very exciting time ahead of him. Mito clacked his jaws together once again as if laughing before crawling forward into the interior of the forest.
As Mito neared the center of the forest he noted that while the birds of the forest were almost all as plump and delicious looking as the first one he caught they were all flying just outside of the range that his tail could strike out to catch them. The bio-android clacked his jaws together once again, spooking a couple of nearby birds, as just mere days earlier this would have caused the bio-android grief in being unable to catch the birds but now he had developed a technique that would allow him to catch them flying through the air. Choosing a suitably wide tree Mito began to slowly climb it with his claws easily gripping deep into the bark. Once he got about eight feet off of the ground the bio-android stopped climbing and turned his attention to the sky around him. He had spooked the birds earlier from clacking and climbing but there was a patch of berries near the bottom of the tree. They would be back to eat, the forest had allowed him to grow complicate from predators and having a abundance of food. Hungry would drive them to eat, as it drove Mito to wait for them.
And sure enough the birds came back within minutes, flying around the other trees as they were still spooked from the giant insect clinging to the tree above their favored berry bush. But Mito knew that they would eventually let their guard down once again, they were too used to eating the berries by now to simply abandon the bush for the da-snap
Mito's tail had shoot out from his carapace in a split second. On the end was a fairly plump bird that was quickly being deformed into a dried out carcass of it's past self. It had flew too close to the bush and so Mito's tail had skewered it in mid-air. And now all that was left of the foolish avian was a few feathers that were gently floating to the ground. But the birds would be back soon, there was no flesh or blood to scare them away for Mito was not a messy eater. And he knew that hunger would eventually drive them to come closer to the berry bush he was sitting just above. Animals were not that smart, even if they were really, really tasty. Ah, there they are once again. Chirping and fluttering about the trees nearby. But Mito knew hunger well and knew that it would drive them forward to eat from the bush onc-snap
And so this continued many, many more times. Once the birds stopped going to the feeding ground that he was position near, Mito would simply travel to another one that was nearby to repeat this process once again. The forest slowly lost the song that it's bird sang that morning as the birds were consumed one by one by the bio-android. And he was only getting started in greeting his fellow inhabitants of the forest.
Raina had been flying around for quite some time, considering the next jobs she would take on, or the next thing she might have to do. There was a lead from a kid Raina had met that she almost wanted to follow, about there being Saiyans in the south...But she wasn't entirely sure yet if this was something she wanted to pursue. But she had other matters on hand. Right now she had just been tasked with a little follow-up on the forests. Seems like people really ate up that nature stuff for some reason. She wasn't really sure why.
However, as she landed and started surveying the area, she picked up something. An odd power level. It wasn't particularly threatening, but it stood out in a forest where most creatures carried a power near-nothing. It was a little alarming even still. She decided that maybe tracking down this power was better than whatever she had been tasked with originally. With that in mind, she kept her guard up, scanning the area around her as she walked through the forests. She didn't know who or what was putting off that feeling. And she'd rather find out what it was so in the off chance it was fine, she could just leave it alone.
Regardless, her mind raced with ideas, and she lowered her own power level to keep herself hidden, now starting to take less open paths through the forest and keeping a low profile. Again, she had little idea what she was sensing, it could have just been someone training in the forest, or it could have been something more than that. She wasn't a risk taker typically, and in this case she wanted to avoid as many risks as she could, it was in her nature to figure things out before proceeding, after all.
But that's when she found it. the carcasses of birds, dropped down in front of her. They had to have been...Deadified pretty recently given the heat still coming off of them. But by what? She drew her camera out and started looking around through the view finder, trying to spot whatever did this. It wasn't normal for any predator to kill birds in this way. Not any predators she knew of, anyhow. She was alarmed for sure. But she kept her wits about her, staying calm and quiet. It was the best she could do, really.
Mito's tail shot forward to skewer another bird on the end of it, one of the last ones in the forest. The bio-android always started with the birds of the forest whenever he moved, he was a bit of a perfectionist and birds were the ones that could flee from him the easiest. That and the chirping of the darn things greatly annoyed ever since that one day-
The bio-android suddenly froze up, even stopped draining the bird on the end of his tail, as he felt a much stronger power level than his enter the forest. And then the power level shrank until it disappeared from his senses which alarmed Mito even more than if it had stayed around: it meant that this powerful being was now on the hunt. And the only thing worth hunting for a being that powerful in this forest was Mito himself. This was very, very bad for the bio-android and for the second time in his life he felt a spike of fear run through his body.
Mito took a couple of seconds to calm his mind, the half-drained bird slipping from his tail onto the ground floor as he did, and started to lower his power level so that he could not be sensed either. Mito was a predator that had been hunting almost nonstop since his birth so he knew a couple of tricks prey could use to hide. First thing first was to find someplace to blend in...
The bio-android hopped down from the tree and started to move further into the forest. He was heading to a stream that ran through the forest, one that had clear blue water and a rocky bed. Hopefully he would be able to hide within the water and blend in with the river bed. And if that did not work then the river would at least be able to ride his foot prints and smell if this predator used either to track him. Most importantly though he had to get away from the spot where the predator last sensed him as that would be the first place that was checked.
After about fifteen minutes of walking the bio-android found the stream that ran through the forest. Mito slipped into the water with ease, moving towards the bottom of the stream. He could not swim in this form but it was not too deep of a stream and he could hold his breath for a very long time so he could simply walk along the bottom of the stream to move through the water. His blue coloring should blend in with the water bed that he was around so that the predator will not find it easy to locate hi- snap
A fish swam too close to the bio-android which caused Mito's tail to skewer it on instinct. Mito was a bit too nervous to fully drain away the fish but at the same time could not help himself from stabbing any fish that swam near him. This left a trail of fish husks floating down the stream while Mito himself made his way up the stream while underwater only occasionally coming to the surface for breathe.
"And..that's two." Click, snap, shutter. "Two photos down. How many did Kishibe-sensei say he wanted again? Nine?" Bao spoke aloud. Holding his silver, school-issued camera in his right hand. A newly printed photo held in his left, the item pinched betwixt his thumb and finger. A photo of a bird suspended in midair, captured in one masterfully taken snapshot. However, as he lowered the photo from his view, that same bird had dropped to the ground. It wasn't engaged in flight within the air anymore, no, but laid out on the ground now. A bloodied mess of feathers and crimson red gushing and leaking. It was sickening, but Bao held his stomach. No need to spill the contents of his lunch right now. Especially not while he was doing some homework. A disgusted expression did paint itself onto hi face, though. His nose pulled up a tad while the corner of his lips being pulled back. Eyes narrowed somewhat and brows cocked. The scent of death had begun emanating off of the creature. He seriously hoped this wasn't an omen for how the rest of this day would go. Usually, death was followed by more death. Unfortunately for Bao, his assumption had come to fruition. Aas the bird he had captured was just a precursor to the trail of lifeless corpses who followed it. The scent was really getting to him. His picture had been shoved into his back pocket, and he followed along. Though, not failing to snap a few images along the way. Some of the wilderness around him, some of the sky above. As he traveled, the trail came to something of an end. A river had greeted him.
"Perfect." Bao snapped his fingers and raised his camera. Taking a photo of the stream. Two just to be sure, but once again, as he lowered his camera, the blue water had slowly become red. Only, this time, he could sense something was near. A cause for this effect. Well, he thought he could. Whatever it was seemed to just disappear. Freaky. He was getting sick of the wildlife being slaughtered like this. If this became a regular thing, Kishibe-sensei would have his class write something about the ecosystem being turned on its head and he didn't ant that kind of work! Like the previous, the photo was shoved into his pocket. Shoving the camera into his pack, Bao looked from side to side. Visibly shook and radiating curiosity and wonder for whatever the hell was going on in this forest. He really didn't want that essay on the ecosystem, and animals and the food chain. No, thank you. His eyes did trail to the river, an idea springing into his head. "I can just dry off after.." Bao reasoned with himself, stepping into the stream and walking up it. Searching fiercely as his senses were pulling him towards the water. His eyes alternating from the water to the greens around him, following each and every husk that floated up and past him. He really hoped his dogi wouldn't be stained red after this. Bleach wasn't cheap, whoever was making this happen better had coughed up some zeni to clean his clothes! "C'mon, you! It's useless to hide! Muda muda muda!" Bao taunted his target. His confidence in strength was abundant, as seen in the present, but it may have gotten him into some trouble had he not been careful with just what he was looking for here. After all, he was in unknown waters. Easily anything could be waiting for him right about now..
She was pretty curious about the energy signature, but as quickly as it came, it vanished. She cursed her luck silently, uttering a few thoughts to herself."Gone...Still, I really don't think it could have left the forest. It might still be here...I've gotta keep looking, whatever did this might not stop at birds, and we're all in trouble if that's true."She stood up silently, she had to at least be sure of what was happening. If she was overreacting, it was better to be certain rather than wondering. Her mind just wasn't going to let her drop this, regardless.
Still, she heard someone coming, and ducked back down. Whoever it was, she heard the distinct and familiar sound of a shutter click. She had developed an ear for that siren song of photography. Her brows furrowed as she saw this person come into view. he was taking up her gig! A rival journalist?! She followed quietly behind him. She couldn't sense his energy. He must've been hiding it too...But why? He wasn't making an attempt like she and her mysterious adversary were. In fact, he was just casually walking and taking photos! Even...Despite the discovery he made. She kind of wondered how he didn't spot her when the bird dropped.
She was following along, though somewhat annoyed by this rival, he did manage to pick up the trail of whatever she was after...At the very least she now knew the...Whatever hadn't escaped the forest yet. Though she was baffled to see a blood red river as she trailed behind the boy. "W...WHAT THE HELL?!" She let a yell slip...And quickly jumped behind some bushes as she realized what she did on accident. Still...She had steel nerves from her line of work, it was natural. But nothing prepared her for this.
What she was seeing now only reinforced her idea that this was quickly becoming a problem. Though that kid! He...He just stepped right into the river! What's more, he was taunting whatever it was and punching the water! She just couldn't understand his logic! She had to get out there and warn him! She stepped out, whether he found out she was there or not, and looked somewhat panicked. "W...What are you doing?! That thing could be hiding there! Get out of that water! We need to draw it onto land, the water's too murky to spot it!"
She had something of a point. The water was bloody from all the dead fish, if it was hiding in there, it could keep hiding. There's no way either of them could spot it with both sight and sense blocked. Whatever it was, it wanted to stay hidden, and she was going to try and play into that - To try and draw it out. It couldn't stay in there forever after all. If there was nothing to keep it in the water any longer, she'd just have to wait it out.
