Another method of making money was about to arise for the young saiyan prince, this time around would've been just as unexpected as the last time. As of currently, Athren would've been standing on a rooftop in West Capital. He would've been in the very corner of one that had an alley below him. In all honesty he was just minding his own business, he was there out of curiousity. He wanted to know how the Earthlings managed and interacted in the middle of the night. Though the streets grew quite empty compared to when they were full, there was still quite a bit of interaction going on. Stuff that Athren didn't expect to see.
He had also noticed quite the change in the individuals roaming around as well, during the night they seemed to be low class. They wore hoodies, ripped clothing and seemed to have a darker attitude. During the day, there were typically more well dressed people with a more positive attitude. Athren didn't really understand why the change was so drastic, yet it really didn't effect much. While Athren was watching the Earthlings he couldn't help but over hear the closest ones talking about something. There were two of them in the alley below. Athren eavesdropped as it seemed like an interesting topic.
"So, How many fighters did you get lined up?" Said one shady figure to the other. This figure had a hoodie up, he looked as if he'd potentially be intimitating to one of the human's that'd come out during the day. He was puffing on a cigarrete. The orange ember glowed in his face revealing minor facial features.
The other one replied with an answer. He seemed somewhat concerned about the opinion of the other figure. Of course, Athren wouldn't have understood why. Physically, both were in the same range. They stood equal to one other and their figure seemed reasonably equal as well. "I've got about five decent fighters line up. I think the boss will be please, I think one of these guys will qualify for his new body guard!"
The one smoking once again spoke up, "Good, Hopefully it'll work out this time. You're on a short leash! If you fail him again you'll be fed to the sharks!" His tone was serious and quite hostile. He didn't seem pleased at all with the outcome of last time.
At this point, Athren had safely come to the conclusion that they were looking for fighters. Athren didn't know why or for what, but he was curious to know. He figured he'd make his move. Athren leaped off the roof and landed beside the two strangers. Their intial reaction caused them to both hit the wall. The forced themselves backwards. "I couldn't help but over hear that you two are looking for fighters, I'm interested." All Athre had known at this point is that they were looking for a fighter. Why? He didn't really care, it sounded like there was a testing though. Whatever it was, Athren wanted to know. Surely, he'd pass all the competition.
The leader of the two explained the situation to Athren, they didn't seem worried about him now that he had been interested in their plans. He looked enough like a fighter, but they wondered if he'd pass the test. Whatever were to happen, they knew that one more chance at filling their bosses request couldn't hurt. "Our boss is looking for a bodyguard though he hasn't been capable of finding one fitting enough. We're having a tournament tonight though we've only got a total of nine fighters currently. If you're interested, walk down the alleyway and hit the cellar on your right. There, you'll find a sign up and a key to a locker. Then, Just follow the orders off the mic."
Athren had simply nodded his head, he didn't find any complaints to be found.
It was a tournamnet, that was something he would find interesting. Hell, Maybe there would even be an Earthling there that could give him somewhat of a challenge. Though Athren had doubted this. He could never be too sure. Athren had decided to go along with it, there wasn't anything he could lose in this. He walked down the alley until he stumled across the cellar door on the ride side. He took the ten steps down and walked through a narrow hallway until he reached an open room with a table and some thug behind it with a pen and paper. The thug raised his head and looked up, there was music playing in the background. "Name?" was all he said.
Athren looked around with an arched brow. This place was obviously a dump. It wasn't exactly the best maintained either. That was irrelevant to the sitatuion though. "Athren."
That was all Athren had said, that was all he needed to say.
The one behind the table wrote his name down before tossing him a key. "Take a right, find your locker and make yourself at home until you're called upon." From there, the man went back to paying no attention to Athren. Athren followed the mans words, he took a right and walked down another hallway until he found the locker room. The key he had recieved was labelled as '127'. Athren walked around the square room until he found the locker that the key had fit. He opened it up to find it completely empty. ~Well, Armour and a scouter are useless here.~ He thought to himself. With that, Athren put his scouter on the top shelf and removed his breastplate to put on the bottom shelf. With that, he closed the locker and found himself a bench until he heard his name called.
It took about half an hour to be called by the announcer, when it happened Athren arose to his feet slowly and began to make his way through the only other direction that was visible. It didn't take long but Athren had come out with a ring in front of him and a large, shouting crowd surrounding the whole ring. It was something like he would've seen on planet Vegeta. He was actually feeling quite at home right now. Though, the music wasn't exactly interesting or pleasant. Step by step Athren made his way to the ring, he took a moment to roll his sleeves up to his elbows. He was quite confident about the whole situation. He was almost positive that there wouldn't be a single person in the building capable of keeping up with him. Of course, he could be wrong. Athren made his way to the ring, he began to zone out the loud crowd that roared. When he stepped into the ring, Athren stared over at his opponent. It was a man whom had his phsyical condition. Though, he wore jeans and was topless. Really? That's how Earthlings chose to fight. It wasn't appealing nor was it practical. They'd rip off in a matter of one, pathetic little ki blast. It was in this moment that Athren took a fighting stance, his opponent on the other hand had been bouncing around the ring like he was a boxer. The announcer continued to say things but Athren completely zoned the nonsense out. He was focused, he was about to fight. His heart began to beat a little bit faster as adrenaline rushed through his body. He was about to do his absolute favourite thing and there was a little bit of a mystery. Athren didn't know what the other fighter was capable of, he couldn't sense Ki yet and he didn't have a scouter with him. This guy could've been something great. Athren was actually hoping for that to be the case. Of course, if it didn't happen Athren wouldn't have been upset. He expected for this to be easy and effortless.
The annoucer had stated that the fight were to begin, the other fighter rushed in and launched his right fist towards the prince. Easily, and effortlessly Athren shifted his head to the side and let the attack breeze past his face. His counter attack was easy, a quick punch to the mans jaw. His opponent dropped easily and the crowd had gone quiet. They hadn't seen a fighter dropped like that before. Nor had they seen anybody with such speed before. It just seemed unreal. It was incredible.
As the night continued Athren had more fights lined up, Each one had went like the first. Every opponent he had faced had been dropped with a single hit. Though the crowd was impressed by this point Athren wasn't. None of these fighters put up any kind of a challenge, Athren wasn't gaining anything from fighting these punks. It wasn't even fun.
Luckily, he had reached his last fight and it ended just as quickly as it begun.
The announcer claimed that Athren was the winner of the tournament.
One of the thugs approached Athren at this point. "Follow me, The boss wants to talk to you."
Athren listened to the man's request. He followed him down some hallways and up a dirty staircase. This led Athren into an office with four guards, the boss and a large safe.
It was at this point where the boss spoke up. "Well, I've got to admit it. I'm impressed. You've earned yourself the right to be my bodyguard." He paused for a moment as he dug into his desk to grab a stack of Zeni that was bound together with a rubber band. He then tossed it at Athren. "Here's a present for amazing me tonight."
Athren caught the present with his right hand and looked down at it. Seriously? He hadn't even put effort in to the fights. It was pathetic. There was another thing though, Athren didn't want to be anybody's bodyguard. He just did this for something to do, he didn't expect any money from it either though it was a nice little bonus. Athren's eyes came back up to look at the boss. He didn't want this discussion to go on any longer. "Thing is, I don't want to work for you. I did this purely for my own entertainment and it was pathetic. You know, I didn't put any effort into any of those clowns whom call themselves fighters?" Athren's tone was quite cold at this point in time. He wasn't impressed.
The boss had then leaned back into his seat. A devilish smirk. Athren's statement had annoyed the boss. He felt as if this whole setup was a waste of time, money, and resources.
"If that's how you feel, I'll be taking that money back." The man then indicated to his men with a single finger to be prepared. It was at this time that the rest of them brought out side-arms and aimed them at Athren.
Upon seeing the weapons, Athren couldn't help but chuckle. If the man would've asked for the money back kindly Athren would have actually thrown it back. He was royalty after all, he didn't need any money. He was quite wealthy back home. Sure, he didn't have money on Earth but he didn't need any. He survived off the land and pushed himself that way. Given the hostility and the threat made by the 'boss' Athren wanted to make a statement.
"I would've given it back but you just made a stupid move." Athren paused for a moment as he observed all the men's faces twitching. They were quite nervous about the whole thing. They weren't warriors, they were thugs. "You threaten me with pathetic toys. You saw what I did down there. That wasn't anything, I didn't even try. I could easily deflect these bullets right into your skull." Athren paused once more. "I'll be leaving now, if you decide to shoot. I'll insure you're all dead." Athren took a step back as he was going to head for the exit.
Of course, the gangster boss wasn't going to have it this way. He wanted Athren dead. "Fill him full of lead boys!" With that being said, the four men brought up their guns and began to unload. This was of course until they all dropped dead, including the boss. Athren deflected all of the bullets easily with a single finger. With that being done, Athren took his money and went to the locker room to get his stuff. From there, he made his exit.
