Personality
Heizen is a very complex, but negotiable individual. Despite the fact that he is the villain in some people's stories, he is not above making a good deal. His main desire is to create a utopia for the Demons, where they can freely engage in all their desires without the prejudices of others. He wishes an escape from Makai which is closed off from the rest of the Universe, and for them to live among the rest. To rule as King like his ancestors before him.
Heizen is a product borne of anger, resentment, and prejudice. This background has made Heizen a violent and angry being, who sometimes goes off into violent episodes torturing and killing people by the masses. It is for this reason that he is considered a Wrath Demon, for it is his most distinguishable trait. Though he is normally a good tactician on the battlefield, this anger can cloud his judgment as he loses his reasoning.
Although he makes deals and makes friends, he is a paranoid individual who does not take betrayal well at all (even though he expects it). Borne as a slave - Heizen understands and appreciates the concept of one's free will. Therefore he does not enslave people under his employ, nor does he try to force anyone to do anything (even his enemies). He'd much rather take their life or punish them corporally should they choose to stand in his way, as he sees it as a consequence of their own actions.
Despite these traits - Heizen does have some decent qualities. Some tiny sliver of goodness in him. He does not like to hurt children. Even though it inconveniences him (as they most assuredly will grow up and try to stop his plans later on), he avoids killing them if he can. He also is not totally immune to empathy, as he understands pain and suffering as much as anyone. This is shown to those he actually cares about, as he will do whatever it takes to help them (even if he denies caring about them at all).
The trouble with this is that he is stubborn, and does not like to feel manipulated. At the threat of manipulation he shuts down and acts stubbornly, avoiding his emotions and just responding in anger.

Backstory
As mentioned - Heizen comes from a line of demons who once ruled as Gods to the humans on Planet Earth many era ago. They ruled as deities with their fearsome power, their leader a powerful demon ruling the desert region. They commanded the humans for quite a time taking advantage of them to fit their needs while eliminating those who would oppose them with no remorse. Heizen's ancestors oppressed the people of Earth Realm for quite some time, even going so far as to create slavery as punishment for defiance. Forcing humans to command their own, a great evil spread on Planet Earth as the concept had seeped its way into human minds and spread all throughout.
Seeing this evil spread brought great anger from those who ruled above. The mortals could do nothing to stop them, and it was not until a hero of the era banished them some many years ago with devastating power that the demons were banished from the Earth Realm once more- never to be seen again. The Demon Line were heralded as Deities in their absence, believed to have forsaken their people out of their displeasure, bringing about the seen destruction with their disappearance. For many an era these demons were trapped in Makaii - mocked and ridiculed for their failures. Their leader was powerful, but in his absence rival clans had grown even stronger than him.
The Demon Aknaid led forces that defeated his ancestor and his clan. They became slaves themselves to many demon lines above them in strength, fighting their own inner war for control for centuries and millennia. Over the years this formerly great clan grew weak, with Heizen as the latest spawn of this Demon Clan. For a time (ever since his birth) he served under the Demon "Malakai", a lowly demon head of a primitive clan. Malakai was not powerful but he was cunning as a warrior and had some sway with some of the mid-tier demons. Heizen resented his master and his pathetic clan for enslaving him from birth. But Malakai's influence and skill made him a very difficult target to defeat (especially for Heizen who was born of a low caste).
For years growing up Heizen reserved his strength, biding his time as the warrior demon served his purpose with resentment yet compliance. Serving as the demon's lackey Heizen was forced into battle with opposing demon clans - growing stronger with every fight. For years Heizen grew to develop his own techniques and skills; training himself to become a warrior like his ancestors before him. The Jackal Demon seemed to possess some level of talent for fighting reminiscent of this ancestor before him, and eventually the Jackal Demon grew strong enough to challenge his former master. The two fought for hours in a grand contest of strength and wits as their locked horns awed the many who watched. At its end however Hiezen killed his former master and asserted his place on the chain by taking command of the lowly clan.
Now with his freedom Heizen is preparing himself to grow even stronger to both reassert his clans dominance in the Demon World and to reclaim Planet Earth once more and rule on it. He is training on Malakai for the day he can challenge the Planet that has only grown stronger during his family's war. While dealing with constant challenges for his power and the politics of dealing with the higher ranked demons above him - Heizen has a long way to go.
