The technique was rather straightforward and it was pretty much why it was one of his favorites; it wasn’t that complicated, and everyone could have managed to perform such a feat, so it wouldn’t have actually taken for the fighter to be extraordinarily talented in anything. Everything one had to do was focusing their energy.
However, he could tell that maybe for some it’d take a little longer to manage considering some could be less trained with their ki, so it was all but natural that there’d be differences among students. Everyone learned at their pace, but Corn was still proud to say that the Super God Fist was something that everyone could have possibly learned without having to exhaust themselves over the process; it was a pretty powerful technique, too!
It was very useful as one could quickly connect a combination move or something like that; it was why he had recommended the human to be quick with concentrating the energy inside his fist. But, considering he had not only managed to learn the Kamehameha but also empowered it to a greater level-- the Kamehameha Times Ten, he had no doubts that he could handle having to focus a little bit of his energy in his hand. It was similar, just that with the energy wave he had to focus it outwards in between his palms, while for the Super God Fist, he needed to hold it in his hand.
Cornatto was glad to see that Galen appreciated the Saiyan’s display of power, but what mattered the most to him was that he would be capable of learning such a technique, that was all he could look forward to as a teacher he guessed; for his first student to be successful. It was admittedly something he was new to-- he had never formally taught anyone other than his daughter, but the man could tell that he liked the idea of instructing other people-- especially because you got to train with them. Maybe he could somewhat feel how Natto did when he had to teach him the Soy Arts.
But, he wasn’t obviously going to make their training sessions way too easy-- elsewhere would be the fun? So, the man wasted no time other than the one he offered him so that he could memorize and elaborate all the information that the Earthling Saiyan had given him; it was plenty and probably enough for him to understand the concept after all. He knew Galen was capable of it, after all, Galen did also affirm that he had been focusing his ki inside his blade whenever he’d fight with it, so it was something he had already become accustomed to, that was for sure.
The Earthling Saiyan took off just slightly from the ground, in a dash onwards to his opponent’s direction with his arm bent backwards as he planned to hit with as much strength as he could at the moment; he was pretty sure that the human could handle the damage just fine, unless he were to dodge it obviously, but by the quick pace Cornatto charged at him, he didn’t expect much of a reaction from him. So, once he was in close quarters with Galen, he launched his fist forth and hit the human in the face with the power that he had been storing in his fist up until then. He had imagined that it would have likely sent him flying away, but instead the human put all of his strength into standing firmly on the ground. It was something that Cornatto could appreciate it, he was seriously taking it to heart but still it didn’t help him relieve any of the damage that the technique inflicted upon the swordsman.
A shockwave exploded around the two, considering Galen had managed to nullify most of the kinetic energy, it couldn't do anything else other than unleashing beneath them and as such crack the ground-- even if just slightly. Although he had accomplished all of that, the punch still landed a solid hit on him as the human spit quite a lot of blood-- which somewhat surprised the Saiyan; he didn’t expect that it would have hit him that hard.
But, he knew that all of that blood was nothing compared to the rest of their training. They still had to go through quite a lot, even if more in particularly, Cornatto had just one technique left in store for Galen to learn, but that was only to come if the human would have successfully replicated the technique, which he did. The human easily proved to the Saiyan that he was capable of such feat as the person not only took advantage of how close Cornatto was at the moment but also to the momentum so that he could quickly land the punch on his face as the swordsman struck the Saiyan with the very same technique.
The man felt quite an amount of pain, even if it was relatively lower than the one Galen must have felt from Cornatto’s punch. Still, it was something he couldn’t just ignore. The Earthling Saiyan grunted in pain, being pushed away from the impact of the punch but not sent flying as the man quickly recovered his balance-- still floating in front of the human. The man lifted up a hand to his mouth and wiped off a trail of blood from his hand, staring at his hand for a brief moment.
“Hehe… that was amazing, Galen!” - the man exclaimed, his expression immediately changing to one of excitement as he glanced at the swordsman. “I was sure that you could do it! Now, though, there’s one more thing I want to show you!” - the man said before floating up in the sky. He halted not way too far from the ground, but still at a quite remarkable height and then he just lifted up his hand and gestured for Galen to come at him with anything.
Galen’s face was still hurting like crazy and the blood streaming down his mouth gave him an iron-ish taste to his mouth that was quite displeasing as it reminded him of the time Durendal ran his sword through his guts, nearly killing him. Back on that day, Galen puked quite a lot of blood from his mouth and that was the last thing he remembered before his consciousness faded away into oblivion for about two months while he was tend back to full health by Cleopatra and Jie Shan. That experience left him with a diamond shaped scar right where his solar plexus was; a scar he would be carrying for the rest of his life as a reminder of how he had failed on protecting the world and upholding his promise due to his lack of training. A mistake he would do his best not to commit again.
It was very satisfying when he managed to hit Cornatto back with his own version of the Super God Fist and it made him feel quite proud: he was actually improving his skills on the Turtle School style and he was able to land a hit on a much stronger and skilled person who could easily dominate him in a fight if he didn’t unleash his tension, but even though, Galen knew saiyans quite well by now and, as much as he didn’t like to admit it, his powers as a earthling paled in comparison to the golden god-like super saiyan transformation, that multiplied the user’s power much more than all his rage could.
Sometimes Galen wondered if he could actually ascend even higher, but ultimately he was afraid of that and maybe it was acting as some sort of unknown handicap for him; his transformations were based on letting himself drown in his tension, increasing it to such an extreme level, that it actually changed his mindset from a serene fellow to a quite angered one. The rage was so intense that his blood would rush through his veins like crazy, making his skin pink in color and his eyes crimson red. What could possibly happen if he went beyond that? It was a question he was still quite afraid of looking for the answer. But if things didn’t improve, he knew he had no other choice; his main goal was to protect the planet, and he couldn’t dream to do that if he was weak and easily overpowered by everyone.
The Super God Fist was a success, but it took quite a lot of stamina and Galen was left quite breathless after that. ”Arff… Arff… I d-did it!” he said, feeling happy for himself and also happy Cornatto seemed satisfied with his progress. The saiyan was now floating in front of him and said that there was something else he had to show him. Galen sighed deeply as he tried to catch his breathe once again and made a brief nod. ”S-sure… I want to learn as much as possible, Master Kame!” and although he was quite tired, he had that absolute resolve in his eyes, burning like a bright sun.
Cornatto had to give Galen some credit for his power; it was something that he had immediately taken note of when he had shown up at the Kame House earlier. But it was not too bad for someone who wasn’t that good even in a fistfight. Corn wondered how good Galen could be with his sword at that point if the swordsman had that much power that he could put to use by imbuing it into his blade, he guessed the result could be quite exceptional.
It was kind of obvious to the Saiyan; there was stuff everyone was a little bit more talented for, but it didn’t mean one would be immediately capable of such things, but rather they’d only progress faster in whatever thing they were good at-- it made sense. A swordsman had to be good with his sword, no? Just like anyone would have likely expected a Saiyan to punch hard, there were some exceptions, but they were a few.
Most of the Saiyans were born to fight, but it didn’t necessarily mean that they were born with enormous power but rather even low-class warriors such as Cornatto himself could climb their ways through the ranks of strength established the Saiyan hierarchy.
As much as it didn’t matter to the Saiyan, it worked with a simple logic; the one with the low power levels were weaklings while the one that would unusually be born with a high power level were supposedly Elite. It made sense but it was sort of stupid, it was only a matter of effort for everyone-- even low-class Saiyans to surpass the strength of an Elite. Of course, not everyone improved at the same pace.
Galen seemed to be making some pretty good progress at the time; he had managed to master the Super God Fist which-- aside from being one of Cornatto’s favorite moves-- also was a proof of the results Galen had reached. He didn’t know how strong Galen hit before if he even defined himself as not being a revolution in fistfights, but Corn was sure that by the time they’d complete their training, he would have made some significant progress.
Maybe it was a matter of balance or perhaps the style itself of the school was something that truly fit the martial arts as a whole. After all those years Cornatto could maybe understand Karota’s words better as to how clumsy and rough were the Soy Arts, but he still gave them a lot of credit because of the power their strikes exercised. On the other hand, the Turtle School was a much more refined style.
Galen looked somewhat tired, but Corn was sure that he could have managed to put up enough energies to keep up for a little while, after all, what Cornatto meant to show him was one more technique which was the Thunder Shock Surprise. It was a technique that the Earthling Saiyan didn’t initially like that much because of its drawback; one couldn’t attack while holding an opponent still. However, he easily realized how useful it could be when the old man told him about one of the principles of the Turtle School; it was teamwork. It was something Corn could agree with-- fighting a foe paired up with someone else, but as a Saiyan, he’d be more satisfied by battling an opponent one on one.
Either way, he could understand that some circumstances might force people to team up for the greater good. He didn’t expect himself or really anyone of his future students being able to take on a powerful foe all by themselves, especially a ridiculously strong one-- it was only natural that teaming up would become necessary when a fight is no longer only for fun but also to protect something. In the Turtle School’s case, the innocent people or the planet itself in the worst case scenario. That was what mattered, yes, but as a Saiyan, it was evident that he’d never stop feeling excited about a good fight.
Cornatto smirked, taking note of the resolution in Galen’s eyes as it was something that he ultimately respected. He was looking forward to seeing how powerful Galen could have become after their training would be done, and perhaps, ask him for a little serious spar by the end of it. They were technically fighting already, but he wanted to help him get as strong as he could and aid him in improving his physical prowess not only so that the young man could protect the Earth but also so that he could have a little fight with him later.
“Very well then, let’s do this then!” - he stated as he folded his arms over his chest. “What I’m going to show you now is called the Thunder Shock Surprise. It’s a very lethal technique that traps your opponent in an electrical field. To get out of its cage, you must unleash a power greater than the one of the user. However, this technique has a weakness; you can’t move while you’re holding your opponent from moving. That is why this technique is mostly useful when you’re teamed up with someone else in a fight.” - he said as he lifted up both his hand and extended them towards the fellow earthling.
It was also true that Corn had no idea as to how Galen could just break out of it, at first he had thought that he’d just break the technique himself after a few minutes. But, the Earthling Saiyan didn’t know that the human could pull out more power than what he had at the moment which would have likely been the only way for the human to get out of the electrical field.
“You’ll have to focus your energy in your hands and turn it into electricity!” - he added. The man charged up the technique; such was noticeable from his hands that were glowing intensely. “Thunder Shock Surprise!” - he exclaimed as he launched forth what looked like to be an energy beam but in reality, it was an electrical field that would engulf the human and stun him.
Somehow Cornatto seemed to be satisfied with Galen’s display of finesse and resolution. The human was truly doing his very best to learn from watching Cornatto’s every move: his footwork, the way he placed his body while on the basic fighting stance and while moving, how he engaged into close quarters, how he disengage. All of that were important for him to become truly well versed in the Turtle School arts, and he was truly looking forward to that. That reminded him though, that he needed to put on some serious research in order to master his original school, the Kikoukenjutsu Sword School. With that in mind, he hoped that maybe one day he could spar with Cornatto in a more even ground; as they were now it was quite clear Cornatto had been holding back in order to give Galen a fighting chance, and that was something the human wanted to change in the near future if possible. Still, he was well aware that saiyans’ power grew at a much faster pace than human’s power and Christopher, his hybrid friend was the living proof of that. However, this wouldn’t hurt Galen’s motivation and will to improve. In fact, it only further enhanced it as it gave him this ideal of overcoming his natural obstacles and flaws.
In any case, they had a training to finish and Galen knew it was far from over. Cornatto began explaining the next technique of the Turtle School and, just like Gravity Break, the secret technique of the Kikoukenjutsu Sword School, it was more of a support technique that could be very handy, especially if the user was fighting together with friends. Galen nodded acknowledging that information as he paid full attention to the details of the technique. ”Interesting… A technique to bind the enemy… Sounds quite painful though, if it truly uses electricity… Jie Shan would definitely like this one! Hehehe! He is all electric and stuff… Still, there’s a catch. You can’t move while using it… Hmmm… I need to be mindful of that.” he took a mental note of those details as Cornatto got ready to execute the technique on him and, while he was looking forward actually seeing the technique, he knew it wasn’t going to be a very pleasant experience in the end.
And then he used it. From his hands, bolts of lightning scratched through the skies and hit Galen right on the mark, binding him in an electric cage that was numbing all his body due to the bolts that pierced right through his inner body. ”ARRRRGHHHHH!!!!!” the pain was so intense that it seemed like the world around him was going to fall apart! It was overwhelming and he was rendered completely unable to move. Galen tried to flare his ki aura the most he could, but it was in vain and the shock continued to cause him severely pain and he began screaming, reaching an state of despair. He was growing tense and angry due to both the pain and his impotence to do anything and, after a few more seconds, he couldn’t hold it anymore.
The tension was so much that he instinctively flared his fuchsia colored ki aura and that was powerful enough to break the binding technique due to the sheer power he had reached.
[Last Resort. PL: 365,031]
The sudden rise in Galen’s power was enough to overwhelm Cornatto’s technique and let him free of it. Once he broke though the technique, he felt to the ground and his ki energy faded back to its original power. Galen was breathing heavily. ”Arrff…. Arrfff… I’m… I’m sorry I got tense… It was just… Too much pain…” he didn’t want to rely on his power up since he knew Cornatto could probably go super saiyan, but he had no other choice and, in fact, he did so out of instinct and not truly willingly.
Cornatto was satisfied with what Galen had shown him that far; he had somewhat expected it from someone with such a powerful aura, but he guessed that Galen could have easily ended up master the Turtle School in no time. Of course, it’d have probably taken him a pair of weeks or something like that, but he was sure that the man would have easily got the hang of the style. The Earthling Saiyan had gone through the previous Kamesennin’s training and had no idea as to how good of a mentor he could ever be if he had to compare himself to the old man who was wiser and more experienced than Cornatto, but it seemed that the Saiyan’s teachings were somewhat useful.
It was kind of weird considering that most Saiyans fit more the part of the warriors rather than one of teachers, but it wasn’t like the two were that far from the other. After all, what he had to do was basically to explain what his skills did and how they worked, so it wasn’t all that different from a training spar aside from the fact that he had to showcase his skills rather than using them to win in a fight. Still, he was also teaching him with the hope that they could have had a fair fight sooner or later.
The Turtle School was also a little more complicated compared to the Soy Arts which, while they were incredibly powerful, also were somewhat faulty as they were mostly an aggressive fighting style while the Turtle Arts had a further more refined style just like an old friend had told him once about the Earthling Martial Arts. Galen seemed attentive enough to the information Cornatto had been giving him that far, so Corn guessed that he would have easily managed to break out of the technique; else it wouldn’t have been a pleasing experience.
As the Thunder Shock Surprise had successfully trapped the opponent within its electrical field, the first feeling that Galen got to experience was the excruciating pain caused by the electricity. He knew that it couldn’t harm Galen way too much, but the pain was still something that could bother an opponent or even worse. Still, Corn was more than sure that Galen would have to manage to release himself from the technique if he had listened to him. However, that would also imply that Galen knew how to amplify his aura further. And he did.
“Release all of your power!” - the man exclaimed.
In a matter of seconds, the swordsman suddenly unleashed a quite remarkable power. Corn was somewhat disappointed as he had expected something more than that. He could have probably managed to quickly finish a training match without too much of trouble in his Super Saiyan form. However, he guessed that Galen could easily get stronger than that if he were to train enough.
The man still smirked a bit as Galen freed himself from the binding technique. He straightened his posture and placed both fists on his hips as he looked at Galen with satisfaction in his eyes, nodding multiple times. His power suddenly faded away back to what it was once more and then he fell to the ground, causing the Saiyan to show some concern for his student’s health. “H-hey, are you okay?”
Despite what Galen had just endured, he seemed to be fine. However, he could easily tell that it was mostly fatigue and pain combined, caused primarily by the technique rather than what they had been doing earlier. He guessed that they could have just called it a day, after all, they had gone through more than enough for their first training session.
Cornatto showed concern for him immediately after he released his power and broke free from the Thunder Shock Surprise. Galen was still recovering, but since Cornatto didn’t seem angry that he unleashed his Last Resort, he sighed deeply and relaxed a bit. In fact, the saiyan seemed rather satisfied with the human to the point that he was ready to call it a day. Although part of Galen still wanted to train, he knew he had reached his limit and pushing further than that would be quite reckless so he just nodded in agreement. ”I think that’s wise, Master Kame. I wish I could keep going, but I’m really tired and I feel I have to review those techniques you taught me today.” he admitted, smiling in gratitude for the very important teachings. It was odd, but right now Galen felt he could fight with his fists almost on par with his sword fighting and it gave him some mixed feelings.
”I really need to finish my Kikoukenjutsu Sword School. I need to find the final scroll.” he reminded himself. Taking a deep breath, he stared at Cornatto one more time. ”Master. I will need to stay on the Tower for a while, to attend to my duties, but I will be back as soon as possible to resume this training. Rest assured that I will keep on training diligently this whole time, and I can’t even begin to express just how grateful I am for this lesson!” he paused, making a respectful bow to the saiyan. ”Farewell, I hope to see you again soon.” and with those words, he took a few steps back and, putting his hands around his mouth, he shouted. ”Flying Nimbus!” and almost immediately the golden cloud arrived and Galen hoped onto it.
On his way back, he stopped over Cornatto’s house to grab his sword back before heading straight to Korin’s Tower.
