Atsuko was currently sitting in her room, reading over one of the many books to be found on the Lookout. This one in particular detailed the Kamis that came before, what tasks they generally performed as well as what techniques proved most useful in their time. It wasn't a book of all-granting knowledge, it only gave her an idea of where to go next on the matters. But it still proved an interesting read. What this book did contain however, was something that all Kamis did have. The Dragon Balls, seven orbs that when gathered could summon an Eternal Dragon that could grant any wish.
Even when Earth was without a Kami, the Dragon Balls were still present, though rendered inactive by turning to stone. It was just a simple matter of reactivating them, then... Well, as it turned out, not so simple. Even though Atsuko had risen to the position, she lacked the ability to restore their power. Apparently that was something that could only be performed by an individual of the Namekian race. And they had to be a member of the Dragon Clan as well. From what she could gather as well, she wouldn't be able to learn their methods either.
With a sigh, she closes the book. It was an interesting read that turned into a pointless venture. The seven orbs would no doubt be beneficial to Earth and it's people, but where to even begin? Atsuko got up from the chair and placed the book back into it's place. She then closed her eyes and began to expand her senses to reach all across the Lookout. The Knight was able to pinpoint the location of her mentor, Arion. Maybe she didn't know... But it was possible that Arion had the answers in this situation. It was worth a shot.
The Albino Saiyan leaves her room and begins to make her way through the winding corridors and staircases of the Lookout, slowly making her way to the Namekian. The two had gotten used to each others presence on the Lookout. It was highly likely that the man knew that she was coming. Despite the massive scale of the Lookout, she had gotten used to it enough to know where to go. All of her time adventuring across Earth had paid off, the Knight had a good sense of direction now. It was something that would benefit her greatly.
Soon enough she found the Namekian. Her steps were quiet, so as not to disturb a potential meditation the Namekian might be under, and then she assumed an at ease stance once more with her hands behind her back. She would wait patiently for him if he was meditating, and then choose to speak... "Greetings, my mentor. I had questions about my duties as Kami... I've been studying the books on the Lookout.", she greeted him and then began her explanation. "I've just finished reading about the Dragon Balls, I believe that they could be useful. But I'm unable to restore them myself."
Atsuko added, though she wasn't finished. "However, I find them concerning as well. A wish for anyone that can gather them, it's a matter that needs to be approached with delicate care.", she stated. And then pondered over what was to be said next briefly. "Hmm... I suppose we should start with whether or not it's even possible. Then we can cover whether or not we should. Your thoughts, my mentor?", Atsuko then fell silent, now listening intently to whatever the Namekian would have to say. Arion had proven himself of being worthy of respect.
She could liken him to a Sage, or perhaps the Elder of her own Order. A very wise man that held great skill and knowledge. It made her feel inferior in some ways, but also grateful that she had someone so capable to rely on.
The Namekian loved to meditate on the Lookout, it was so quiet and peaceful most of the time and he could find answers to his questions. That day, he was into his own room. It was definitely a good choice to take off from Namek and arrive here, and with no cost so far! Since he arrived, it had been a lovely time on the planet, except for a few issues just like his encounters with Nasu. But he didn't want to think about that in such an important time: meditation. The latter one was truly important to him, it helped him to clear his mind and reflect about many things. But lately, he had felt something, it was just like an old and forgotten feeling. He had to meditate more and more until it would have been clear.
"..What could it be?" - he muttered lightly as he opened his eyes, letting out a sigh. He had taken the matter more seriously than it was, it could be everything and he could not tell. There was one more thing he sensed but it was clear who it was: Atsuko. He was used to her presence, he could sense her anywhere around the Lookout. She was clearly coming to him, Arion was curious to know what she was up to.
The Namekian couldn't help but smirk, one of the most important things was studying and she didn't seem to mind the task. "It's good to see that you are willing to take this role seriously. And yes, I am aware about the Dragon Balls." - he told her. Did she approach him so that he could activate the wishing orbs? The Dragon Clan was known for their magic skills and they were taught how to do that and more, but why would Atsuko want the Dragon Balls to exist on Earth? It was definitely a curious matter.
"Well, as you have probably read, the Namekians have created the Dragon Balls a long time ago. And as a matter of fact, we still have them there.. or at least I hope so. I've been absent from home and can not tell if anything happened. But anyway, yes. It is completely possible, with my aid at least. I can restore the Dragon Balls just as new, but exactly.. should we?" - Arion said, before clearing his throat.
"You've probably read this already, but the Dragon Balls have been used for all kind of things; from good deeds to selfish ones. The latter ones have really been seen in history to be honest, but their power brought evil beings to track down these wishing orbs and use them for their own reasons. I admit, the existance of the Dragon Balls on this planet surprised me, that means there was a Namekian to fill up the role of Kami in the ancient times. I believe so, at least. Now, among the earthlings, legends were told about them and such filled them with determination, enough determination to search around the entire world to find all of the seven orbs. There is a risk in restoring them back, but it'd also be a sign of Hope, which would bring the earthlings to adventures and understand the true meaning of strength." - he decided to finish his speech there, looking at the Albino Saiyan carefully. It was an interesting matter to discuss, he understood her reasons but they also had to consider many of the risks.
"If you wish to restore them, I have nothing to say about it." - he told her.
Sure enough, the Namekian was meditating. But she didn't have to wait very long. Soon enough he began to speak to her, a smirk apparent on his face as he praised her for taking the role so seriously. She only gave a small nod in response. "I've dedicated an entire lifetime to exactly this type of role. Some people are still surprised to learn I was raised in such an isolated manner, but I can only recall fond memories of the Temple despite that.", the Albino Saiyan offered her explanation on the subject. Perhaps she was acting a little too tense around the man.
But she wanted to rise to the expectations when it came to being a Guardian of Earth. Impressing Arion was merely the first step towards such a goal, she had decided to herself. The sage-like being then began to explain the Dragon Balls and how he knew of them. She did in fact just read that the Namekians were the only ones capable of creating such powerful orbs. It was highly likely that even if Atsuko dedicated herself to accomplishing such a task, she would never prove capable of it. But that was fine, she didn't have to do everything alone.
It was foolish to think that she could solve everything all by her lonesome. It was a path that led to loneliness, she preferred the method of relying upon those that she could trust. Arion then cleared his throat, he offered what else he knew and the Albino Saiyan listened intently to every word. It made sense, the potential of a wish was too great to pass up for anyone. And that included the less than reputable members of society. If they ended up creating the Dragon Balls, it would lead to strife. But it was also a symbol of hope.
It could lead to many good things, such as people adventuring for them in order to better understand the meaning of strength. The Knight assumed that it would also extend to a greater understanding of themselves, but she held her comments until the Namekian finished his explanation. He finally did end by saying that if she wanted to restore them, he would have nothing to say on the matter. The Knight gave an understanding nod in response. "It's not something I want to do lightly. If the Dragon Balls are restored, I want it to be something that would benefit Earth..."
The Knight began, then she pondered it over. Just how risky was it? The Saiyans were here, wreaking havoc. If they learned about the Dragon Balls it would be catastrophic. Nasu in particular was a huge risk, he was determined enough to seek them out for his own gain. And what if he had allies? It would turn from being about the people, to the abuse of a symbol of hope for the gains of the few that wanted it for pure greed. "Frankly... I don't know if it's a good idea to restore them."
The Albino Saiyan commented truthfully. "The Saiyans on this world, they hold a terrible power and I know that if they learned of them, they would seek them out. If they proved successful in gathering them all, I shudder to think what their wish would be.", Atsuko added. It really wasn't a matter that could be discussed so easily. "Likewise, they can't simply be hoarded somewhere. They could also be useful to those that would have need of them... I'd like for there to be an easy answer. But...", the Saiyan paused. She couldn't think of one. And she wasn't going to make the decision by herself.
"I'm uncertain. Would it be best to let their legend fade into obscurity? I would like your honest opinions on the matter. I don't intend to make decisions like these by myself. It doesn't seem right... That would be the way of a tyrant. I know that a Kami must be firm in some matters, but this is... A delicate issue, to put it lightly.", she finished her assessment. With that, the Albino Saiyan fell silent, allowing her mentor the time to respond with this thoughts on the matter. This was why she came to him.
It was hardly what you could call a 'council'. It was just between two people. But if there was any decision to be made here, the Knight hoped that it would be a unanimous one. Whether it meant the restoration of the Dragon Balls, or for them to fade into obscurity as myth didn't concern her. She wanted what was best for Earth, and to do that she needed to examine all of the facts. Right now it was seeming like they could cause more harm than good. But perhaps she was focusing too much on the negative aspects...
The Namekian could not deny her statement, he had to agree. "Yes, but to be honest.. I suppose the legend is not known to many, it has been a bit since they were activated. Unfortunately, we should be careful, we can't be entirely sure about this and I wouldn't want an evil force using the wishing orbs in order to satisfy their own needs. That'd be a huge disaster, we can't risk that. But again, I feel it might be a good choice to let the earthlings use them. I've explained the reasons already, then it is up to you to make the final choice." - he told her, looking at her carefully as he awaited for instructions.
He had no issues to reactivate the dragon balls if she wanted to, but she had to be sure about it. He couldn't simply go for it as if their discussion had ever happened.
The Namekian had a fair point, not many knew of the legend of the wish granting orbs. Up until this point, not even the Albino Saiyan was aware of them. A symbol of hope was quite important, she knew that because the silver sword that she received was exactly that for her Order. Atsuko had time to think it over, so she decided to sit down next to the Namekian. The Knight began to assume a meditative posture, different from Arion's, but it was well practiced. One that she had used across countless days, no doubt. She closes her eyes.
And then the Albino Saiyan begins to think it over... What would the Dragon Balls being restored mean for the entirety of Earth? From what the Namekian had to say, there were several points in history where they were used for good, and documented as such. And as a Guardian of Earth, Atsuko was a little inclined to be certain that they would end up into the hands of someone that would not abuse them. She didn't have any particular wishes... And Earth wasn't in such a state of peril that it needed any, from her honest perspective. But that didn't mean it wouldn't one day have use of them.
And such a quest could very well prove useful for those that wished to become better fighters. Watching them journey for the Dragon Balls would be a means of finding recruits to the cause of defending Earth. Several uses were there, and she couldn't deny that the good outweighed the bad. There was no need to rush... The Albino Saiyan's breathing began to slow, deep inhales... Slow exhales. Her inner energies were working much more efficiently now, and her mind had cleared. The Earthlings could certainly make use of this... And so could Earth's Defenders...
With these conclusions reached, the Knight opens her eyes. "I think they should be restored. But we must monitor them closely, it is our duty to ensure that not only do those questing for them grow as we expect... But we must be certain that they do not fall into the hands of those that would abuse the prospect of a wish. It will allow us to gather recruits, and to know our enemies.", the Albino Saiyan explained her reasoning. It wasn't perfect, and she found it to be incredibly risky. But if she lived in fear all of her life...
She could have just hidden away within the Temple, never to see what all life had to offer her. "There is a fine line between caution and fear. I believe that we can act with caution, and in doing so the Dragon Balls will benefit Earth.", she finished. The Albino Saiyan then looked over at Arion in order to gauge his reaction. Atsuko wasn't sure what the Namekian would think of it all, but it seemed a fair enough assessment in her own mind. If nothing else, the purpose she came here for was to discuss what must be done.
So that was what she intended to do. If he had his concerns, she would hear them out. After all it was only fair, he had done the same for her own.
The Namekian offered a nod in agreement, it was a good idea to monitor the wishing orbs but it would have been a complex task. He took a deep breath, turning and looking out in the distance. He didn't mind the idea of the Dragon Balls being activated once more, perhaps they could have been used for good purposes, anything could happen after all.
"Well, we can work with that I guess. But it won't always be up to us to make sure this planet will be safe. There will always be someone interested in the wishing orbs; and it won't always be a good person. That aside.. I think it'd work." - he told her.
The Namekian offered a small bow to the young Kami and gestured him that he would have been right back. He made his way into the temple and through the several halls, he entered into a room. It was dusty and looked like nobody had been there since a while, he didn't care that much about the room itself but about what was inside; a small dragon statue inside a glass container. He looked at it for a brief moment in contempt and closed his eyes, it felt like a difficult choice to take but in reality it was pretty simple.
He took it and walked out of the room, joining Atsuko once more. "So, I ask you once more.. Are you sure you wish for the Dragon Balls to be working once more, Kami?" - he asked, holding the glass container with his bare hands.
The Namekian seemed to agree with her thoughts on the subject, at least to an extent. That being said, it was true. There would always be someone that was interested in the Dragon Balls, and it wouldn't always be for noble intentions. Like everything else, however, the Kami and their Assistant had obligations to be sure that Earth was safe. That was easier to accomplish with the Dragon Balls rather than without, besides that... She still had the intentions of training herself in every art that was necessary to the Guardian of Earth, which presumably would make watching over the Dragon Balls an easier task.
Obviously she wouldn't be able to easily collect them all for her own purposes, but the Knight assumed that she would be able to tell when someone was collecting them and find out a little more about them as a result. It was a pretty huge assumption to make on her own part, but the Albino Saiyan was intent on not just running away from potential problems, either. The Dragon Balls played an integral part in Earth's history, it was time to resurrect an old legend that brought people more hope than it did despair and suffering.
The Sage proceeded to excuse himself with a bow, and then walked away. Presumably Arion was collecting what was necessary to restore the seven orbs once more, Atsuko had opted to continue her meditation for the time being. Her eyes were closed as she began aligning her inner energies, trying to keep up on this as well as reflecting upon her actions... It was getting to be more difficult, something told the Knight that it was only going to get more difficult the longer she remained the Guardian of Earth, as well. All she would do was steel herself for the days to come.
It's not like she was having to do all of this alone either, she had her friends. Bernael and Tau were both very reliable, then of course there was Arion. He was a patient Namekian that didn't seem troubled by helping the youth along in her duties, perhaps it was because she was well raised to begin with. Her Order really did seem like it was the perfect type of upbringing to assume a role as important as this one... Her musings come to an end as the Namekian Sage returns with the glass container in his hands.
Inside of it was the Dragon Statue, the Albino Saiyan opens her eyes in order to look at it as Arion asks her the question once more. This was really the moment where it would happen... A pinnacle point within Earth's history that would either change it for the better, or for worse. The Knight pondered it over for a moment, and then she gave a nod. "It hasn't been an easy decision, but I do believe that restoring the Dragon Balls is a wise course of action. If it becomes clear that it's the right choice or a mistake..."
Atsuko paused for a moment, taking a deep breath. "All we can do is act accordingly. History does rule onto the side of the Dragon Balls being useful, however.", the Knight finished explaining her reasoning once more. She wasn't sure what else was needed... Technically, the books implied that the Kami had to do it. So was this the first time that there was a Guardian of Earth that wasn't a Namekian? It must have been related to her own powers and life in some small way, even if she couldn't handle the process by herself.
She wanted to ask if Arion could teach her how to maintain the Dragon Balls of her own accord, but she wasn't sure if that would be considered rude or not. The Knight held her tongue in light of that.
The Namekian stared at the Albino Saiyan blankly for a few moments, offering a nod shortly after. He couldn't tell what was on her mind but she had given her opinion and in doing so; he was ready to activate them. He couldn't know what would have happened after that, but at that point, it would have been up to the population of the planet Earth. "Alright, let's do this.." - he muttered.
"I have one last advice, which if it won't be me, you might want to tell them yourself. To the Z-Fighters or however we call them.. do not depend on the Dragon Balls too much unless they are truly necessary. If a kid doesn't learn to ride a bike without any kind of support wheels.. he will fall when they will be missing." - he finished his speech there, trying to make the concept clear once and for all.
He placed the container on the ground and took a few steps back, gesturing Kami to do the same. Then he extended his hands towards the container and had his palms wide open at the statuette. A moment of silence would follow shortly after, it didn't look like the Namekian was doing anything, but in reality he was focusing his energies to the source of Shenron's power.
A bright and golden beam of light suddenly came out from the glass container, it was an amazing sight for the two, but the green man didn't seem to be surprised. The beam seemed to take form; looking almost like a dragon. But then it split in several other small beams; seven small beams to be precise and then they flew away in different directions.
The beam disappeared shortly after and the glass container didn't seem different at all. The Namekian smiled for a brief moment and offered a nod to Kami. "They are active now. I've given them my power and as long as I'll live.. Shenron will as well." - he paused there, seemingly lost in his thoughts. It was truly interesting the concept of how a Dragon Clan Namekian technically gave life to a Dragon, while Arion had not spit out any kind of eggs, the Dragon would have been wielding his energy until both would have died.
"..Oh well, if you'd excuse me now.." - he said, walking to his quarters once again. Thread Exit! I'd like Zeni! Also.. the Dragon Balls are active now, yay!
The Namekian offered one last piece of advice to the Albino Saiyan, for her to deliver word to the Defenders of Earth not to rely on the Dragon Balls too strongly; as there would indeed be cases where they wouldn't always be able to make use of them... The Dragon Balls were going to be meant to be a last resort. Or at least, that was the Knight's thoughts on the subject. She was going to make it her responsibility to make certain they wouldn't be abused by anyone, as well. It was only fitting with her role as Guardian of Earth.
"I understand, I'll make certain that those who align with us will know not to rely on the Dragon Balls... They are amazing artifacts capable of amazing feats, but even so...", the Knight finished her small response, and then Arion made a gesture for her to step back slightly. Atsuko heeded his instruction and watched as the Sage extended his arms outwards, his palms open and pointed towards the Dragon Statue. To the naked eye, it looked as if the Namekian wasn't doing anything at all... But she could feel it, the energies he was having to gather in order to do this.
The Albino Saiyan could feel a pull as if from a tether, Arion was restoring the Dragon Balls, but as she was Kami, the seven wish granting orbs were tied to herself as well. Her power would be used to supplement the Dragon, to maintain the orbs. The Namekian effectively just streamlined the process for the Saiyan that otherwise didn't know how to do any of this. She was no member of the Dragon Clan, nor would she ever gain the right to join their ranks. Their secrets would stay solely with them; she would always need Arion's help for this.
In a way, she found it poetic. Atsuko couldn't abandon her friends or allies, in turn they had to work with her. Alone they were capable of many things, but together they could accomplish miracles. A bright and golden beam then shot out of the glass container, and seemed to form the shape of a Dragon. The Knight could safely say that she had never seen anything like it... Chances were, something along these lines wouldn't be seen again. Seven small, precise beams then shout out and slowly the energies faded from the Lookout. The Saiyan could still feel it.
A chain between herself and the Dragon Balls. She closed her eyes, focusing on the feeling for a moment... The Dragon had awoken once more. It was an odd feeling to describe, but it's life was tied to her own. Just as it was to Arion's. She opens her eyes as the Namekian begins to speak once more. "I can feel it... Something that lives as a direct result of myself, it's a subtle feeling, and not unpleasant... But I think it will take some time to get used to.", the Albino Saiyan admitted to the Sage.
Finally, Arion asked to be excused, and she gave a nod. The First Duty had just been completed, and Atsuko silently wondered what would come of her decision here...
