Thread PL: 283,540 Using: Jie's second mansion, flavored as the Lookout Tags: Nakiya as Lucy
The silvery steel blade blade cut through the air, whistling as it was swung by one Jie Shan Lan Dian. The young Saiyan and Elemi hybrid stood in the center plaza of the sacred Lookout that he now called home, training with his blade beneath the clear, beautiful blue sky that was the backdrop for the palace. It was an idyllic day, by all means, but such clear weather did not extend to his face; a stormy expression brewed on the Saiyan's face. The silver haired Saiyan paused during his motions and stared hard at the blade in his hands, gazing at it with a look that kill- if the sword had a life to take. Dark Saiyan eyes regarded it with contempt.
The blade felt wrong.
Of course, it was a blade, a tool, and it did it would fulfill its purpose well enough in the hands of a master swordsman like Jie Shan, but it felt like only that: a simple tool. Not unlike the sword that he had lost to the Caesar: Jarvis, the false god and possibly the biggest asshole in all of the universe, with only a certain other Saiyan giving the upstart jester Jarvis a run for his money.
With a growl, the Elemi halfbreed came to a stop and returned the blade to the sheath on his back in one swift and smooth motion. Even the weight of the blade felt alien to him; the heft of the sword came to rest on his back, pushing down and through the simple loose and grey gi that Jie Shan had elected to wear for his daily training.
Simply put, Jie Shan needed to get his old sword back. A gift from his mother, it was a part of him in a way that only he could really understand. Even if Jie Shan had donned all the clothes in his closet, he would have still felt nude and bare without the blade that had become an extension of himself. It was as if the new Kami was missing a limb, one that not even the most advanced of healing tanks could restore. There was only one way to shake this feeling and that was wresting the blade from the filthy hands of a certain madman.
Jie Shan just needed to find him. And the Kami knew where to start looking; Jarvis had taunted him with such information. Jie Shan simply needed to find the time and means to go after his blade. But his new duties kept him busy and they came before any personal matters. The old Jie Shan would have flown off at the drop of a hat, selfishly seeking out his sword like a wolf pursues its prey, but that Jie Shan was gone. Banished, thought Jie Shan, when the hybrid had taken up the responsibility. Admonished and beaten out of him by individuals like Komatsu and Jarvis; this new Jie Shan had responsibilities that he could no longer run away from. Especially as he was just starting to settle into his duties; he would do well to stick around the Lookout for some weeks before traipsing off to the great blue beyond.
So, Jie Shan sat in the middle of the Lookout, cross-legged on the smooth, white tiles that coated the upper deck of the mystical building. With a sigh, his mind returned to matters of the Lookout and a thought struck him like a heavy weight dropping on his head out of nowhere: how was he still alone?
The Lookout was usually teeming with activity and somebody was usually ghosting about, whether it be Flare or one of the members of the blonde herd that seemed to make this place their coven. And that little blonde was usually poking around. Just where was that one?

Lucy found herself back on the lookout once more, resupplying the kitchen with the meager groceries she had been able to obtain on her last trip down to the village. She knew that there were others on the lookout so she grabbed as much as she could, but she wasn't very strong so there wasnt much she had been able to bring up here.
She was just finishing putting it all away then grabbed herself an apple before leaving the kitchen. She wasnt too sure what she wanted to do with her day... she supposed she could go by the pendulum room and practice some more... but that was really hard and she was really not any good at it. Maybe she should just go back down to the village? Maybe Joanna or Michael would be willing to play with her...
If it wasnt for her self imposed mission her life would be exceptionally boring... so much for master Nakiyas great Human creation...
As Lucy bit into her apple and walked out of the lookout she found Jie Shan sitting out in the courtyard. She had to pause and stare at him, sidestepping until she was hidden behind one of the pillars. She watched him for a moment, ignoring the fact that he could probably sense her.
What should she do..? He was the new Kami right? So he would be living on the lookout too... she was bound to keep running into him... and she supposed she couldnt keep being shy forever... she could talk to the villagers so why did she have so much trouble talking to them?
She hesitated, staring at her apple for another moment before stepping out from behind the pillar. She kept her head down, her hat moving forward to cover her eyes shyly.
"M...mr Jie Shan..? Are... are you okay?" She asked lowly, staying close to her pillar as if it was a quick escape route.

Speak of the Devil. . .
A sudden presence and voice whimpered out onto the plaza of the Lookout, calling out to Jie Shan and rousing him from his self-induced stupor. Quickly, the hybrid looked back over his shoulder, twisting his back from his seated position, to see just who had called out to him: it had been the blonde girl, the one Jie Shan knew had been ghosting about since before he had taken over the Lookout and presumably the one tending to the chores in the place. Jie Shan's brown monkey tail twitched as he was made aware of the teen girl's sudden presence.
"Oh," he said quietly, "Hi there, erm. . ."
Jie Shan sighed, embarrassed, and rubbed the back of his head. Grunting, he slowly pulled himself to his feet and turned to face the girl, offering her a small bow. "I'm sorry," he said, "But I don't think I know your name. Lots of blondes up here, you know? You, that older one who yelled at Galen, and the little girl. . . speaking of which, I haven't seen those last two lately."
Jie Shan shrugged. While he cared precious little for that Cambia, he did certainly hope the younger girl and Cambia's own child were okay. Children, after all, were innocent. Though, thought Jie Shan, not all adults understood that. As sad as it may be.
"Sorry if I worried you," he continued, "I was just thinking to myself, you know? Lots of stuff is happening and sometimes I just need to sit down and consider it all, make sure I'm doing the right things, make sure I have the right of everything."
Jie Shan smiled, just a bit. "If I screw up, it can mean a lot of bad things for a lot of good people, you know? And I can't have that." WC: 304

She couldn't help but look at Jie with a confused look on her face... It had been a while since they had seen one another sure but... to forget her altogether and then just refer to her as 'one of the blonds'? He was rather rude, and she didn't have that written anywhere in her notes about him... hot tempered but she didn't remember him being this rude. Her cheeks began to turn red before she finally managed to speak up.
"I... guess it's been a little while... but uhm... my name's Lucy. I was the one who didn't want Mr. Arion to take over mama's job when he had come to the lookout... I remember you and Mr Galen were angry with auntie Cambia because she was mad too." Lucy explained to him calmly, trying not to be rude in return about his earlier comment. He just went on to apologize for worrying her and explaining what it was he was doing. To that the young girl nodded gently as she listened to him speak, once more letting him finish and letting a silence fall between them before speaking up again.
"Right or wrong is just a concept, so... you can never be sure that you're doing the right thing in general, just that you are doing what you think is right." She stated rather philosophically as he explained that if he screwed up, a lot of bad things could happen to good people, and that made her think of miss Flare and her expression turned rather sad.
"I guess you're right, yeah..." She mumbled as she began to step out of the shadows of the lookout, coming more into view of the older man. If Jie looked closely, he could see that Lucy really did look like an older version of that little girl he remembered.

Lucy? And she had been there when Arion had taken over from the girl's 'mama' and had watched that Cambia fight with Galen? Jie Shan squinted and looked at her strangely. And finally, all the synapses in Jie Shan's brain finally snapped and a realization dawned over him like a room full of lights suddenly being flicked on.
"Oh," he muttered, "I remember you now. So that was you who was there when Arion took over as the guardian. . ."
Jie Shan's head was spinning. Hadn't she been smaller than? He closed his eyes and focused, his mind prodding the girl's ki. It was. . . similar, to that ki that he had felt once on the Lookout, a faded memory that he could not quite claim to remember fully. There had been more important ki signatures to worry about at the time, funnily enough, back on a day where Jie Shan had never imagined he would become the Kami one day.
"I'm sorry," said Jie Shan simply and sincerely, "I didn't recognize you. I guess you've grown some since a few months ago. That's my mistake, Lucy."
The girl waxed something philosophical about the nature of right and wrong, and Jie Shan had to stop a moment to ponder it. What she said was true after all, in a funny sort of way. An awfully mature thought for a young girl, Jie Shan reflected. But maybe it was to be expected; the girl had been living on the Lookout for how long now? She was sure to have absorbed some measure of wisdom, even the tiniest bit. . .
"Heh," said Jie Shan softly, "You're right about that. You're pretty sharp; a lot of adults don't really understand that.
The girl muttered something and stepped from the shadows and Jie Shan gave her a quick once over. The hybrid was sure of it: this was the same little girl that he had met all those months ago. Emphasis on little. How had she grown so quickly? Unless she had had some sort of Saiyan growth spurt- which ought not be possible, as the girl looked utterly human- she should still be just that: a little girl.
But Jie Shan said nothing. Instead, he tilted his head and looked at Lucy with some measure of concern. Even if she had grown, the girl was a child still. And Jie Shan had something of a soft spot for kids.
"Alright," he said, voice soft as wool or as close to as he could manage, "My turn. Are you okay, Lucy?"

"m...mhm..." She said with a light nod, now staring down at the ground as she began to shyly dig her toe into the ground as Jie spoke, finally realize who she was. She couldn't blame him, her accelerated aging wouldn't stop until she looked to be about 20 or so, which should happen within the next year if she guessed correctly. While she was just a kid, it wasn't just her body that aged, her mind and knowledge grew just as fast as the rest of her and that's why she had taken to taking down notes, to make sure she didn't forget anything and had some sort of record of everything that went through her mind.
She smiled gently whenever he complimented her on her words of wisdom. She had to believe those words she stated because she herself was very much in that gray area... Her master was considered evil, her once good mama had turned dark and then come back all while thinking she was doing the right thing, she still cared a lot for her master and had to believe that trying to achieve the role of Kami one day was the best thing for everyone, that it was in fact good.
She was snapped out of her thoughts when Jie Shan asked her if she was okay, looking up from the ground and towards the silver haired saiyan. Her crystal clear blue eyes locked onto his own for a moment as her shyness seemed to intensify.
"W... well... yes... but I wanted to talk cause... well... I've been on the lookout for a long time and... there's been a lot of people that come and go... now that auntie Cambia isn't here anymore I don't think anyone really knows about me... or cares that I'm here at all... So I thought, since you're going to be the new Kami I... wanted to tell you exactly what I was and if... if you even wanted me to stay on the lookout anymore..." She started to explain softly, her gaze never leaving his own though it looked like she'd like nothing more than to run inside and hide.
"You... you know about the Demon Queen, Nakiya right?" She asked, her lip moving as she bit the corner of it uncertainly. Her heart was racing a million beats per minute as she waited for his answer, wondering if he already knew she was one of her creations or not... Her mama, auntie Cambia and uncle Komatsu knew, and she think Mr Chris did too? Maybe... She wasn't sure and that was why she wanted to get it out of the way, so if she was allowed to stay it wouldn't come as a surprise.

The girl went from smiling at Jie Shan to looking up at him, locking eyes with a certain fervor and intensity that Jie Shan had not seen in the girl since Arion had first taken over the Lookout from her 'mama'. Bright blue met deep black as their eyes locked, and Jie Shan returned her gaze with the thoughtful raise of a single eyebrow.
What was this about?
The girl began to stammer out a sort of explanation to him. First she claimed she was okay, though Jie Shan was not quite sure if he believed that. The girl shook like a leaf or a newborn deer; either the girl was shy or not completely okay. But Jie Shan did not object, instead nodding and letting her continue at her own pace and simply listening as she spoke. The girl spoke of her situation, of family, of whether people knew or cared about her at all, a thought that had occurred to Jie Shan many times in his own youth and even to this day. It was, he thought, tough to know if anybody cared at all. Even if they said they did, reflected Jie Shan, did they really mean it?
But the girl seemed to have some new dimension, some spin to place on it. What she was and whether Jie Shan wanted her here or not. And with that, Jie Shan cocked his head sharply in the other direction. Just what did the girl mean by that? Why would Jie Shan not want her on the Lookout?
And then the girl asked Jie Shan if he knew of Nakiya.
"I have heard the name," said Jie Shan quietly, nodding, "What about the demon queen, Lucy? What do you need to tell me?"
Jie Shan cleared his throat.
"I promise I'll understand."

Lucy took in a deep breath as jie Shan ushered her to continue, he wasn't acting the way she thought he would at her masters name but he still seemed on edge... which of course was to be expected. Not a lot of people liked her master and she could understand it... But... the problem with Lucy was that she could also understand Nakiya and what it was she hoped to obtain. She even agreed with it to a certain extent but one way or another there wasn't much the small girl could do but follow her programming.
"Well she... created me. She used the DNA of the most powerful Earthlings she could find to make me. When I was old enough to come out of my tube she then gave me mama because she... wanted to learn about the Earthlings. I don't... really understand what her plan is but... she put me on the lookout for some reason... she gave me to mama with some purpose but... now I don't know what to do.
I... I used to be able to hear masters voice sometimes... when she would guide me to... what I should do but I don't hear her anymore... and without mama or Auntie Cambia I... I don't know what to do anymore... I don't know what I'm supposed to do..." She muttered the last part of her speech as she had been talking a hell of a lot longer than she normally did. Her cheeks continued to grow red as the rest of her face began to look sad. She gripped the bottom of her shirt, waiting to hear what Jie Shan had to say about it all and if it even made sense to him. To put it simply, Lucy was having an existential crisis.

Lucy dropped quite the bombshell on Jie Shan: she was the product of genetic engineering by the hand of the malicious Demon Queen, Nakiya. It was almost like being hit over the head with a baseball bat, only worse. Jie Shan's jaw went slack and he cocked both his eyebrows at Lucy, two silver arches questioning her: had he heard that right? Was this some sort of joke? The hybrid Saiyan was floored; Jie Shan never would have guessed that was what she was going to tell him. He had thought she was going to say something like: 'the Demon Queen asked me to spy on you guys', but this? Never in a million years, that much was for damn sure.
But Jie Shan remained calm, not wanting to break his promise to the girl.
"I see," he said quietly, "That is. . . quite the reveal."
Jie Shan suddenly blew air out his lips in exasperation. "Heh," he groaned, "Never expected that one, not in a million years."
Jie Shan looked at Lucy and tried to give her a wide grin, but inside, Jie Shan was sweating bullets. The experiment of a Demon Queen? Just who the hell were the people who owned this Lookout before him? And damn, thought Jie Shan, why had this not been written down anywhere? It seemed like it would be helpful to know. Damn Arion and his predecessor!
But still. . . It would explain the rapid changes in her appearance, and maybe even the girl's uncanny strength. That solved that mystery, but the silver haired Kami now had a hundred more questions. But he wasn't going to pester or punish Lucy with them!
"Well," said Jie Shan slowly, "I appreciate that you told me this, Lucy. So, you are being honest with me when you say you can't hear her anymore, right? Like, she's not using you as some kind of radio to pull the wool over my eyes, yeah?"
A stupid question, he knew that.
"Ugh," he spat, "Never mind, we both know that is a dumb question. But, like, you're normal otherwise, right?"

Lucy's face was gradually growing more and more red as the silence between them grew, Jie Shan only expressing a few words of surprise to her revelation. She really wished more people had known about her, or her master had made it known to more than just her mama who she was... but she doubted Nakiya ever thought Akiko would abandon the lookout as she had done. It put the little Lucy in a bind with no direction to follow...
She slunk around the lookout a lot because she was honestly scared of the others that came and went. If they knew who she was then they'd try to get rid of her... but the lookout had been her home for so long, and she couldn't get back to the Demon realm or really survive there at all so... she wanted to stay...
"I'm being honest... I haven't heard her voice in a long time and I... I don't know what to do anymore... I mean... I'm a human being by design but, a Demon made me... I think master makes some good points but now that I live on Earth I don't want anyone to hurt it... So... I guess I'm normal, I think? I don't really know what normal is... I look like the other kids in the village but I'm growing up really fast.
"I don't have to leave the lookout now... do I..?" She asked hesitantly, her head still hung low as she waited for him to freak out and tell her yes she absolutely had to leave.

Jie Shan sat in silence for a moment, not quite sure what to make of the whole situation. His dark Saiyan eyes held on the girl, his gaze unwavering as he focused on her. His mind, however, was spinning, like a runaway top or a hurricane. What should he do about this? What could he do about this? The girl, he thought, was the creation of a wicked demonic empress and her she was, standing before him. A demonic creation was living on the Lookout, the center of Earthly heroics and all that was good on the planet of Earth.
But, thought Jie Shan, she was also just a kid and this was her home, demonic origin or not. It would not be very right of Jie Shan at all to kick the girl off the Lookout and doom her to being an exile, whether it be on Earth or the realm of darkness beyond. Jie Shan knew what the practical thing was to do: it was the banish the girl from the Lookout and never have her return. It was the safe thing to do, the responsble thing to do, the thing that a hardliner would do in order to protect the Earth as a whole.
Jie Shan was not that kind of man; Jie Shan knew what it was like to lose a home.
The hybrid's own childhood had been cruel and cold, homeless, an exile by virtue of parentage, fighting each day alongside his mother as a mercenary. Home had been wherever their spaceship went, but it had been an unkind prospect, not knowing what home truly was and if it would still be there come the next day.
Jie Shan gave the girl a wide smile, the best he could.
"No, Lucy," he said softly, "you don't have to leave the Lookout. It's your home."
Jie Shan nodded, as if to reaffirm his own choice. It was the right thing to do, he thought, the morally just and upstanding thing to do, consequences be damned.
"Besides," chuckled Jie Shan, "it wouldn't look reflect well on me if the first thing I did as Kami was evict a kid, you know?"
The longer the silence between them grew, the more nervous Lucy became. She feared the absolute worst, but when Jie Shan finally spoke up once more, he started with 'no' then went on to say she didn't have to leave and she immediately perked up at that. Her blond hair shifted back out of her face as she stared at Jie Shan with teary eyes.
Had she heard him right? He said it was okay to stay even though she was created by their enemy. She stared at him dumbfounded before her face broke out into a wide smile and she leaped up and flew right for Jie Shan, opening her arms and hugging the silver haired saiyan tightly. This was the biggest display of affection the girl had ever shown to anyone, but she couldn’t help just how happy she felt right now.
It felt like she was finally being accepted for who SHE was, and not just who made her. She was being allowed to stay despite Nakiya, despite the possibility of betrayal or corruption, because she was her own person, and she wanted to be good to the people of Earth.
“Thank you thank you thank you mr Jie!! I promise I’ll keep trying to be normal, like you said! And I want to protect the lookout too! Just like mama and everyone else. Can you teach me?” She asked, eyes now seeming to twinkle with excitement as she looked up at him. While she was no longer actively crying, there were still wet streaks all over the small humans face.

The girl's face broke out in sudden happiness and Jie Shan himself could not help but be moved towards a small smile of his own. It felt. . . good? Good to make the girl happy. In that moment, he felt sure of himself; he had made the right choice, consequences that came of it or not. Even if she was the spawn of a demon queen. The girl bounded over the Jie Shan and gave him a tight hug. Jie Shan reached around with one arm and gave her his own hug with one arm. Kids, he thought, they were funny. How quickly the girl changed, both physically and mentally, but he could not help but feel it was the right choice. It might be difficult going forward, with her rapid growth and her power, but they could deal with it going for. Thankfully, the girl herself had a suggestion: she wanted to learn to be a guardian, like her mother and everyone else.
Jie Shan smiled.
“Sure, Lucy,” said the silver haired Kami, “I’ll teach you everything I know. You’ll be a guardian just like everyone else by the time we’re done with you. A real hero of Earth, something to be proud of.”

She couldn't help but beam up at him, looking completely different than her usually shy and reserved self. She didn't know what came over her but she was just so happy she couldn't help but express it! She could stay at her own home and wouldn't have to sneak around anymore if Mr Jie agreed to train her. She didn't have to just keep being that shadow that lived on the lookout, she could really help them out and make a difference!
Of course she would still want to go down and visit the nearby villages she had made friends with from time to time but she was sure that Mr Jie would let hr do that if she asked... So far Mr Jie was the nicest person that came to the lookout to claim themselves as Kami, and the only one she had actually come to accept claiming the position that her mama once held.
"Really? I'd like that a whole lot! I don't know if I'll ever be a big hero though, I'm not very strong..." She stated, completely oblivious to how strong she actually was and to how much strength she was putting out even now through her ki. She really only knew how to fly and that was only because Cicero threw her off the lookout that one time. She didn't think there was much potential in her, but she would try.

about Jie Shan Lan Dian
"Quotes are a waste of time. Actions speak louder than words."

Jie Shan laughed lightly, like the sound of pretty, little silver bells, at the girl's remark. The reason for laughter was twofold: first and foremost, the girl was already quite strong, having by far surpassed Jie Shan's own battle power by the time he had been her age. And secondly, that was the entire point of the whole teaching thing: for Lucy to get stronger and be a guardian in her own right.
"No worries, Lucy," said Jie Shan, "no one starts particularly strong. There's nobody out there in the universe that can't be overtaken with some hard work and some willpower. So long as you've keep that in mind, I am certain you'll be a great guardian in your own right someday."
Jie Shan reached to try and pat her on her head, still smiling.
"Now," said Jie Shan, "anything else you need to tell me? Like, there aren't any monsters or anything hiding up here that I don't know about or something, right?"
The silver haired Kami laughed once again. WC: 172
