After Cornatto had left to the Tournament of Power and before Galen met Master Mutaito, the human was left on King Kai’s planet by himself, still training under the Kaio. The training was harsh, but now that he had mastered the Kaioken, he - for a moment - believed things would be coming close to an end, but he couldn’t be more wrong. King Kai had another thing in store for the human, a technique so rare that only another person of his generation and only one person before them in all recorded history knew about it: the Spirit Bomb.
This technique consisted in borrowing energy not only from the allies, but from the planet, or the universe itself, being able to sum up an inconceivable amount of energy that no other being, no matter how strong or godly it was could even dream to accomplish. The Spirit Bomb had no limits and on top of that it had special properties: evil cleasening. It would kill the foe, there was no sugarcoating to that, but at the same time it would allow them a chance to reincarnate as a better creature for their next lives. It was the ultimate mercy, when the enemy had extinguished all the other less definitive mercies he was entitled to during life.
Yes. The technique was as hard as it seemed to master and Galen spent months training under King Kai to be able to grasp the concepts behind it. To rely on other energies, the energies of life itself, to purify it with good intentions and a will to do the ultimate good, all that while amidst the heat of battle. Galen was still struggling on the inside - a struggle that would persist on haunting him until Mutaito cleaned his mind with his noble teachings, and that was definitely coming in the way of his learning. But as they say, time is the ultimate remedy and with due time he managed to - little by little - show some progress.
”Uhn?!” he slowly opened one of his eyes and stared at the energy that was flowing to his body. It was glowing in a pure white light. It was harm and pleasant and at the same time it carried the burden of judgement. To have chosen to end a life, even if from an evil opponent, was something that carried a heavy weight to it, and he knew he would have to live with such choice for the rest of his life. ”But if I can save my friends from having to shoulder this burden, I will gladly be the one to do it…” and his beliefs strengthened his soul and so the sphere begun to take form above his head.
He smiled faintly and then looked towards King Kai in search for reassurance. ”L-like this, King Kai?” he asked, stammering a bit.
Now that Cornatto and his gang had left for the Tournament of Power, unsure of how much it would have taken for them to return given all things, he guessed it was also time for the good old King Kai to continue his lessons with Galen. The latter had been kind of shocked by his spar with the Saiyan, not to mention the fact that he still had to master the Kaioken better than what he had showcased! But overall, the time had finally come for them to practice and get this out of the way. Although Cornatto's incredible resemblance to his legendary pupil, he had decided for the moment to at least hold on that one technique with him. It could be dangerous, just like his pupil had once endangered the Universe, the Kai ought to be a little more careful with his students.
Then again. He wondered if they'd save it once more. But in the team, there were not only the strongest fighters in their Universe but also two of them were trained from King Kai himself— he was confident they could do it. A good Master had faith in their students.
The Kai watched silently, but carefully, the progress of Galen with the technique. It was not easy at all, it was probably one of the techniques that required most practice. Even more than the Kaioken, but when he could finally see the light of success within the ki of Galen, then the Kai could finally see it.
"Yes, yes! Remember, Galen. This is not just ki, this is Genki. It comes directly from our spirit, which is how the Spirit Bomb can recognize between good and evil. This is why the Spirit Bomb will work the way it should on a good person but will unleash the most of its energy against the evildoers. Do not forget, though, this must be a trump card for you. Never use it carelessly or unnecessarily," - said the Kai until he lifted his blue palm and spawned a block of unknown material, floating right above his hand.
"Now, let's give this a try. Make sure to focus all your energy within yourself and guide it outwards. Just how you'd fire an energy attack, but focus on this block, make it your target and unleash its power! Are you ready?"
The energy was so intense he couldn’t even believe it. Of course the source of energy he had reached, King Kai’s planet, couldn’t really compare to what he could muster if he was on Earth or other large planet, but it was enough to show him just how mystical and powerful this technique was, no wonder it wasn’t well known by many warriors, no matter how pure they were. ”I’m not even sure I’m worth using this technique, to be completely honest… But if King Kai is trusting me with this, I will have to make an even greater effort to make sure I am worth it!” he nodded to himself as he gathered all the energy into his fist, clenching the energy glowing fist as he channeled everything he had towards the energy.
One thing that made him happy about the Spirit Bomb was that it could recognize good and evil and thus, if he was to, somehow, miss it and hit a good spirited person, he wouldn’t be causing the ultimate damage. It was indeed a technique made to clean the souls of those who fell way too deep into corruption and chaos, the final solution to an endless problem.
Galen couldn’t help but to think about Caesar as he channeled his power towards the fist. If he had access to such a technique back them, against every odd, he would be able to defeat the King of Hell and save the Southern Islands from all that suffering and death. The human closed his eyes and sighed deeply as he thought about that but then he shook his head. ”No use looking back at the past now… I have to look forward, face the present and work toward the future!” and with that in mind, his resolution became steel-like and he once again opened his brown eyes, fired up with determination.
King Kai guided him to focus on the block he was about to fire and Galen nodded, closing his eyes once more, remembering all the previous teachings. ”Don’t try to hit the block, just believe you will…” he told himself as he took a very deep breathe. As the shinjin fired the block, Galen let his ki sense guide him and without opening his eyes, he just followed the trajectory of the block until he felt it was the right moment. When his ki sense tingled, he opened his eyes, glaring at the block as his arm moved basically on its own, firing all the energy he had gathered on his fist.
The energy took the form of a small, yet increible energy sphere that traveled at such an incredible speed, completely obliterating the block from existence as it hit it. The block was completely vaporized and the explosion that took place in the skies was unlike any other explosion he had ever witnessed. Galen couldn’t help himself but to feel awestruck by the technique and more so the fact that he had managed to tame it.
”I… I did it!” he exclaimed, staring at King Kai next as he awaited for confirmation.
King Kai watched silently until he finally threw the block in the sky and silently looked at Galen, the man was focusing so he ought not to disturb his pupil from his concentration. He was confident he could do it, and therefore, when the block was finally far enough and Galen managed to catch the moment, he fired the Genkidama which hit the block and vaporized it, leaving the Kai to stare silently until he clapped his hands towards his student and smiled.
"Good job, good job! That was quite the solid hit. But for now, I think that makes it all I can teach you. I am looking forward to seeing you kickin' back in the living realm! Perhaps you ought to go and find a way to come back to life unless you prefer to stay some more here, I certainly do not mind."
He did it! He finally did it. Through a lot of effort and training, Galen had finally mastered the powerful Spirit Bomb and now had concluded his training under the tutelage of the North Kai. The human felt quite happy and proud of his accomplishment but at the same time a bit sad he would be parting ways with the one who so tenderly took him under his wing and taught him the secrets of the otherworld arts. He stared at King Kai and nodded. ”Thank you so much for the offer, but I should go. I’ve been here for quite sometime now, and I really feel like I should go back. They need me, down on Earth and it’s my duty as the Towerkeeper to watch over the Karinga Tribe and the Holy Grounds.” he spoke of duty and he was indeed adamant about going back.
Little did he know he would be soon meeting someone who would prompt him to shift his goals a little bit. In any case, having made up his mind, he bowed respectfully to the Shinjin, closing his eyes, showing the extent of his appreciation. ”I’m forever honored to be taken as your disciple, King Kai. And I hope we can see each other again, sometime in the future. I will do my best to make you proud and confident you made the right choice on teaching me. Thank you for everything and farewell.” and as he rose up again, his brown eyes were watered with the farewell. He chuckled and then flared his light blue ki aura around his body, flying towards the Snake Way.
His journey in the afterlife wasn’t over though as he was soon to meet another person who would willingly share his knowledge with the human: Master Mutaito.
