Smoke billowed into the air. A giant dark cloud of the choking fog overhung over everything. Sunlight was barely filtering in down from above. The whole world was illuminated by unnatural light, the blue flames providing illumination over a smoke filled horizon. It looked as though a volcano had erupted and decimated everything in sight. Such was the nature of such high level battles.
A flash of purple light pierced through the dim battlefield. A figure was sent flying down from the sky, slamming into the ground below. There was an Earth shattering boom. Dust and debris flew into the air, further shrouding the sky with smoke. It eventually dispersed to reveal a crater that had been formed. In it lay a figure, crumpled on the ground. It was as motionless as the desolate landscape around it. Slowly the figure groaned, climbing to her feet.
Tomina had seen better days. She looked even more torn up than she was at any point during the tournament of power. The proud, regal silver of her false god form could not hide the burn that went down from her cheek all the way to her neck. One of her arms hung limply at her side, blood running down and dripping into the ground. She bent over, looking up at the sky. Panting, she watched as a figure in a dark cloak descended from the sky. It spoke to deeply to her, it's voice containing a bit of surprised.
“I meant to kill you with that attack. You're tougher then I gave you credit for.” Tomina grimaced as she curled her lips into a smirk.
“You didn't think I was just going to lie on my ass and wait for you to show up, did you? I prepared for you in advance. I still have a tricks up my sleeve.”
The cloaked figure snorted, which only made Tomina's smirk grow all the bigger. Even though she was the one who was taking a beating, it helped to know that she could at least affect them with her normal snarkiness.
“You have been more annoying than I expected. I should have traveled back further than this. Tracking that interfering pest was more problematic than I thought it would be though. She warned you about me in advance.”
“Yeah, she told me about your sorry existence. How you were going to go on a rampage and fuck everything over by murdering everyone. If you want to plummet the mortal level in your time That's one thing. But I'll be damned if I let you have your way here!”
At that, the figure tilted their head back and laughed. Even in the middle of a fight they seemed to be relaxed enough to not take the situation seriously. Tomina slammed the tip of her blade into the ground, using it as leverage as she looked up at the figure incredulously.
“I don’t remember bashing your head in. You’d only be laughing your ass if you had some type of brain damage. Which I’m sure as shit going to fix.”
The figures laughter died down to a chuckle. Their cloak fluttered as they slowly descended towards the ground. Tomina couldn't see their face past the hood, but she could just picture a mocking grin being sent in her direction.
“You think you have all the answers little monkey. I must admit I was rather surprised by the state of the timeline when I came back in time. The universe is in pristine shape thanks to your efforts. But your efforts have all been in vain. Well, the funny thing is, they're more Hasenya’s efforts more than anything.”
Tomina snorted, sheathing her sword and building up energy steadily. This being was monologuing and she was going to take advantage of it. If nothing else she could try to find some sort of weakness that this being had.
“I don't let others dictate my choices. I just happen to like my cousin, that's all. I didn't want to turn the universe into the shithole you made it into.”
At this the cloaked figure laughed even harder.
“Cousin huh? So that's what she told you.” The figure touched the ground, folding their arms and steadily approaching Tomina. It walked slowly, and deliberately. Not like they were in a hurry or that they were in the middle of a fight. They were acting like they were just taking a casual stroll.
“You're quite the well known figure in the future. Everything about your life is well known. Your accomplishments, your deeds.. it's all there. It's something that anyone could access.”
Tomina glared at the being before her. The murderous intent radiating off of her would normally be enough to deal damage onto itself. But this being was too fearsome for such a thing to affect it.
“Do you really think that shit's going to work on me? Hasenya wants nothing more than to clean up the mess that you fucker made. You have to do a lot better than that!”
Even as she said this there was a trace of doubt in her voice, and a look of uncertainty. She wanted to believe her own words. But the truth is that there were a few inconsistencies in her story. Tarro had told her that she had mixed up her stories about what happened to Flare. She had told herself that she had been under a lot of stress. Was there truth to this thing's words though?
The being took her hesitation to make a strike on her. In an instant it flew forward and swung its fist at her. In that same instant, Tomina's blade blocked it and she swung a counter attack aimed at its face. Tomina pulled back her sword, aiming to let out a furry of strikes... and...
Tomina's eyes snapped open. Moonlight filtered in through the dojo window. She sat up, looking down at her hands. The fight had felt so real. She shook her head, trying to clear her head of residual thoughts.
She had been training harder than ever to get herself as strong as possible. In trying to perfect her latest technique and the combos it allowed, she had gone all out and pushed herself to her limits. So much so that she had fallen asleep in the dojo.
“Tarro's probably wondering where I am. I better get inside quickly. I can't have him worrying about me: I'm supposed to be the one to do that.”
Tomina got up, and walked her way out of the dojo. She had been having these dreams lately. Ones so realistic she felt as though she was actually using the techniques she came up with. Still, dreams were all in the mind… weren't they?
