It took hours.
By the time she had finished regenerating her body, the sun had gone down. She was exhausted, and tears were streaming down her face. Wiping away didn't stop them, so she just sat there, and let herself cry.
She cried for her classmates.
She cried for her parents.
And she cried for Haruto-kun.
Everyone she wouldn't have been able to see again, had she died today. Eventually, everything around her had gone black. She had cried herself to sleep, her body resting against one of the trees in the area. It wasn't long after, that a traveler had found her. However, he was far from being just a normal traveler. The man looked around the area, where he spotted the recent clear signs of a fight happening. But no one but the girl was around.
There were no carcasses lying around anywhere, and the man seemed disappointed about this. He went over to her body, and inspected it for injuries, smiling when he couldn't find one. Then he effortlessly hefted her up and over his shoulder, before continuing towards the city.
When she had woken up a couple of hours later, she was staring at a wall, and something was pressed against her throat. It didn't feel metallic, like what a knife or gun would probably feel like, but she was still careful about not leaning into it.
"Don't move or you'll regret it."
The voice was rough and arrogant, appearing to come from behind her. If she was a human, this would have been much scarier for her. But she still did as he requested, not wanting to cause any trouble. Whatever was going on, he would probably be done with her after, then she could go and find Haruto-kun.
He and his family must have been worried sick about her not coming back to the hotel. She needed to call him and tell him she was fine. Maybe this guy had a phone she could use. Hostages were allowed one phone call, right? This kind of thing has never happened to her before.
"Good. Now tell me your name, and why I found you outside, alone."
"Saeko."
The first part, that was simple to answer. It was her name, and giving a stranger her name was usually not a problem. The chances of them seeing each other again were pretty slim, with how big the earth was. But that second part he was asking, she didn't like. Her head hurt, thinking back to what happened awhile ago. She still hadn't really tried to figure out what that other man was saying, and she wasn't going to now.
This man's question had also brought back what she did before she had passed out. How her heart had ached then, and how it was aching now. The tears quickly forming in her eyes, she couldn't get herself to stop. Soon, she was audibly sniffing, which seemed to make the man tense up.
"Are you crying? Well stop that. I just wanted to know if you got into a fight or not."
She couldn't respond with a nod, in her current position. The only way to stop her tears was to wipe them away, and she wasn't even sure if she could. Would he get angry if she got her limbs to stretch out to do it? She didn't want to ask, since that wouldn't answer his request. So she had done just that, and found her arms had a lot of freedom to move. Huh. It didn't feel like there was any rope around her legs either. Did he not restrain them?
"Tch."
Guess not. Well at least her arms and legs wouldn't be sore later.
"Saeko did get attacked."
"By who?"
Well now she was confused. Didn't he say a moment ago, all he wanted to know, was whether or not she had gotten attacked? She wasn't going to argue, but she didn't like how he kept asking her to think about that other man. She wanted to forget all about that incident.
"A Kold Demon. But Saeko likes calling them Frost Demons."
"Damn it!"
The man swore, and the object was lifted away from her neck, allowing her to completely move if she wanted to. A single stomp came from behind her, before the man started muttering to himself. She wasn't sure what. Maybe more swears? It was funny though, and made her happy. She still didn't move from her spot when he eventually got back, and placed the object under her neck again. That, she really didn't like. It was weird talking like that.
"Why didn't you try and leave just now?"
"You told Saeko not to."
"Is that it?"
"Saeko's also tired from earlier."
The man looked surprised, but then started to grin, as if he had realized something.
"I see. That makes things much easier."
Once again, the object was lifted away from her neck. Unless she was wrong, it seemed that he wasn't going to place it against her throat anymore. Good. Movement came from behind her, making her wonder if he was leaving. What would she do if he did? He didn't say it was fine for her to go yet. But she didn't want to just sit here all day, if he was going out somewhere. She was surprised to see him actually just go around, so they could talk face to face.
He was young. Barely older than Haruto-kun, and was cute too. Though was he actually as human as he looked? His black hair was spiky and untamed, with a single red streak going through it. And he wore a beige jacket and jeans, just like a student would. What made her doubt he was human however, was his red eyes, and the demonic looking sword he carried in his hand.
The former was like her eyes, only without the black sclera, and more cold. While the latter, was just as red, and had some kind of black markings on it. Had that been what was against her throat? How scary. Though despite these two features, she was still conflicted about what he was.
Eye color wasn't that unusual, and the sword could have just been taken from a demon. This guy might have been some kind of adventurer. Either way, she wasn't planning on asking him. Her parents once told her it would be rude to do that kind of thing. Something about their feelings getting hurt.
"Don't get too comfortable. It's a shame you're still recovering. I didn't think I'd run into one of your kind so soon."
He was frowning. She was confused, and didn't respond, which he didn't seem to care about. Maybe he wanted to just hear himself talk? There were actually guys out there who were like that. Then he grinned at her, and hefted his sword proudly over his shoulder.
"Oh well. It just means I'll keep you hostage until you're feeling better."
"Eh?! But Saeko has a life to return to."
"You're a hostage. If you want your freedom, you'll have to fight for it."
Aw, he was right. She saw nothing wrong about what he said. It made sense to her. And it would be awhile before she would feel fine enough to fight again. Mentally. Much too long for her to get back to Haruto-kun and his family.
"If Saeko's a hostage, then can Saeko get your name and one phone call?"
"Tch. It's Masato. Just make it quick, and don't tell them anything suspicious."
He dug into his pocket, before pulling out a phone, and typing something on it. Likely a passcode? Then he tossed the phone over to her, which she was able to catch. When she went through the phone book to get to the dial pad, she had done her best not to take a glimpse, out of respect. Although her peripheral vision still saw, and it was strangely empty. But she didn't ask, and instead focused on trying to call Haruto-kun.
What was his number anyway? It took a second or so for her to recall the information, before she typed it in. It was easy to remember if you made a phrase out of the letters under the number. The phone rang maybe once or twice, before it was picked up.
"Hello?! Are you calling about the ad I posted online?"
He sounded worried. Had something else happened while she was gone?
"Haruto-kun, what ad?"
"Saeko, is that you? Where the hell have you been?"
Ow. Why did he have to swear like that? He's never done that before. Was he mad? Her eyes turned over to the man in front of her, who frowned as if he was warning her to go and answer. But she didn't want to talk to her friend if he was going to be like this.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. You have no idea how hard my parents and I have been looking for you. I just want to know if you're safe."
"Saeko is, but Saeko won't come back for another week or two?"
She had immediately hung up after, and handed the phone back to the man. It was weird how quick he changed his mind from wanting to know where she was, to just wanting to know if she was safe. Well she was, and he had hurt her a bit, yelling at her like that. He needed some time to cool down.
The sound of her stomach growling, made her blush a bit. Masato seemed to felt similar to her embarrassment, as his eyes had turned elsewhere. She forgot she hadn't eaten since everything that had happened to her.
"Do you have any candy for Saeko?"
By the time she had finished regenerating her body, the sun had gone down. She was exhausted, and tears were streaming down her face. Wiping away didn't stop them, so she just sat there, and let herself cry.
