(Heavy weights on!)
Jie Shan stood across from Cornel, staring at the older Saiyan as he waited for the gravity to kick in. What was taking Rudieri so long, thought Jie Shan. And why was she so quiet? It wasn’t like her, at least not usually so. Cornel coughed and cleared his throat. “So,” began Cornel, “I thought we’d be doing some gravity enhanced training, boy.” And as if on cue, the machine around them whirred to live and Jie Shan felt a pressure on him, increasing. It was heavier than the last tier, and it made his weighted armor feel as if it were made of lead.
“Sorry!” Echoed Rudieri’s voice within the chamber, “I had to check Cornel’s records! Needed to see if he was fit for gravity training and all that good stuff! As it turns out, he’s in tip top shape, especially for such an old man.”
Cornel growled and looked about the room, as if to see if Rudieri could be found in it. “I don’t know whether to feel flattered or to be insulted. Who are you calling old, girl?”
“You! Come on now, I’m just being honest! Didn’t mean to offend, I just deal with facts!” Exclaimed the scientist Saiyaness, “How does the gravity feel, boys? Twenty times Planet Natto’s gravity sure is something, isn’t it?”
Jie Shan struggled beneath the gravity, bending to touch his toes. “Yeah,” he said aloud, “It’s a lot more intense than ten times gravity.”
“Aye,” agreed Cornel, “It is pretty rough. Much tougher than I’m used to.”
“Oh, you’ll be find Cornel!” Said the Saiyaness, “You fought on Planet Brench before, right? At least that’s what your records said. This is just a bit more intense than that. Think of Planet Brench as… about half as bad as this.”
Cornel was doing his own stretching now, testing his muscles beneath the gravity of the chamber. “I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be reassuring. I hated Planet Brench. Everybody there was so rude. Of course, I was trying to break ‘em, but they could have been cordial at least!”
Jie Shan had to chuckle. Cornel and his war stories, thought Jie Shan, what a treat. Jie Shan had heard them time and time again. They were always interesting. Some of them even came from Cornel’s time with the Saiyan Empire. But that was a long time ago.
“Yeah, I’m sure they could have been, Cornel. Not like you’d ever give ‘em any reason not to be,” joked Jie Shan as he continued his warm-ups. The gravity was not making this easy, and neither was his armor. Jie Shan felt strained in everything he did.
“Why, Jie Shan, don’t you know? I’m the friendliest Saiyan that ever was. I kill my enemies with kindness and invite them over to sing campfire songs and then I take them out for drinks,” said the Saiyan, his voice full of mock shock. Jie Shan had to give a small bark of laughter.
“Really?” Asked Jie Shan, “Then what did I invite you over for? I wanted a fighter, not a singer. Unless you plan to make my ears bleed with that ghastly wail you call a singing voice.”
“Hey now,” growled Cornel, “You leave my singing voice out of this, boy. I’ll have you know that this voice has soothed many a raging beast.”
Somehow Jie Shan doubted it. Cornel’s voice was rough, gruff, and was more like sandpaper than silk. “Well, good luck soothing me,” said Jie Shan with a smirk, “You’re gonna need to beat me down before I stop.”
“Heh, I think I can handle that, Jie Shan. Or is it Captain Jie Shan now? A fancy new title for you. Who’d you have to suck up to get that?” Laughed Cornel.
“Nobody. I earned mine by siding with the Overseer during his return,” said Jie Shan.
“Heh, still hard to believe the boy is Overseer. I remember the days when Natto was Overseer. He was a good man, that Natto. Made a Saiyan proud to be part of the Alliance. A shame he died during the Empire-Alliance war. But it just goes to show, no one is invincible,” said Cornel, forlornness in his voice, “Ah well, hopefully his son will do us proud. He is a Super Saiyan after all.”
“Yeah,” said Jie Shan, “But he might not be the only one for long.”
“Oh?” Asked Cornel with a lopsided grin, “And let me guess? You’ll be the next Super Saiyan, yeah? You, the uppity little halfblood? You’re going to join the ranks of legendary warriors? Well, crazier things have happened.”
“Just you wait, Cornel! When I’m all golden and powerful, you’ll see!”
“Well, let’s not waste anything then! I’m going to need to kick your butt before that can happen!”
And so they clashed, like they had many times before. Jie Shan kicked at the man, but Cornel parried the blow. And the older Saiyan had counter attacked with a series of jabs, some of which Jie Shan turned away. The fight moved slower than their normal brawls, the gravity providing an incredible handicap for the two experiencd warriors. Jie Shan had more raw power, much more, but Cornel had decades of experience backing him up. And it showed. The older Saiyan moved with a certain finesse, hard won knowledge. But Jie Shan had his own moves. The only problem was that Cornel knew all of them. Blows were blocked, dodged and otherwise negated. Rudieri might know everything about Jie Shan on a physical level, but Cornel had memorized the very way his old subordinate moved. Fitting for a Saiyan squad commander, thought Jie Shan, but not good for their brawl. Jie Shan thought he might be able to overwhelm the man with brute strength, but the old Saiyan’s knowledge and battle wits carried him a long way. How did you fight an opponent who knew every move in your arsenal?
Not every move, realized Jie Shan. His recent training with the new Overseer had given him some new tricks up his sleeve, ones that Cornel might not ever see coming. After the old commander dodged another of Jie Shan’s strikes, Jie Shan subtly switched his stance. He could see a look of confusion sprout on the older Saiyan’s face, but if he realized what was coming, it was too late. Jie Shan was on him in a second, elbowing and kicking, spinning and twirling. And finally, it seemed as if he were edging out a victory over his old commander.
“Soy Style?” Growled Cornel, “I haven't seen that in a long time. Not since the battle on Vegeta seven years ago.”
Jie Shan only answered with an elbow to the face and a spin kick to the stomach. He grinned in satisfaction as the wooshing sound of air leaving Cornel’s lungs resounded through the chamber.
“I suppose you're learning those moves from the Overseer?” Coughed Cornel, “So, the boy is restoring his father's legacy. About time I say.”
Jie Shan said nothing. Instead he was more concerned with why Cornel still was not going down. Well, he thought, he no longer had a choice. Jie Shan reached for that inner power, that one that gave him strength. A dull yellow aura began to form around him, his power rising like a rocket. And Cornel only sighed. He had seen this power up before, but only in times of desperation.
But Jie Shan could control it now. With the power flowing through him, Jie Shan charged Cornel again, fist extended. The blow connected, and the Saiyan tumbled backwards, clattering to the ground.
“Damn, Jie Shan,” grunted his old commander, “You really know your way around that power, don't you?”
“I do,” said Jie Shan with a nod, “It’s my ace in the hole.”
“I can tell,” said Cornel flatly, “You know, there's a way to get more power out of that, right?”
Jie Shan looked at him curiously. What was Cornel talking about? More power always interested Jie Shan. “Tell me more,” said Jie Shan, almost demandingly.
“Well, there's this technique called ‘bulking’, or at least that’s what I have learned it as. Essentially, you flood your body with ki and increase your muscle mass to great lengths. Though it does make it harder to move around… Anyways, it's a handy little technique. Occasionally, I’ve used it in conjunction with my Oozaru. Have you ever seen a jacked giant monkey? Because it's a damn impressive sight, I'll tell you that.”
Jie Shan had little interest in the prospect of a more powerful great ape; His was already more powerful than average. But the idea of increasing his power and muscle mass was certainly appealing…
“I'm going to try it!” Exclaimed Jie Shan, “Stand back and watch out!”
And with that, Jie Shan hunched over and tightened his core. Ki began to flow through every fiber of his being, rising and falling rapidly, like some kind of life force roller-coaster. There was a stirring in his body, like something was growing. Slowly, he began to feel his body growing, his muscles expanding. Luckily he was wearing Saiyan-make armor and it stretched with his body. His muscles inflated and Jie Shan could feel himself growing heavier. His dull yellow aura raged harder, growing with his body.
And finally, he was done. He stood there, lifting his arms up, examining them. They certainly looked bigger… Jie Shan was almost impressed with the sheer growth alone. But what really impressed him was the power growth he had noticed…
“Not too shabby, eh?” Asked Jie Shan with a smirk.
Cornel gave him a critical glance. “Hmm, I'm not sure if you carry the muscles well, pip squeak, but you certainly have the technique down.”
Jie Shan grinned. “Jealous, Cornel?” He mocked.
“Yes,” sighed Cornel, “Very. So jealous I need to leave and collect myself. I’ll see you later, Jie Shan. I’m gonna go try and see if I can leave my jealousy in the bottom of a bottle and at the foot of someone else's bed. You're welcome to come along. And please do. I don't need Carota talking my ear off all night about girls.”
“I’ll consider it. Now get you and your sass out of my chamber!” Jie Shan laughed.
“As you order, Captain,” said Cornel with even more sarcasm, stepping out of the chamber. “I’ll see you at the bar!” He gave with one last call.
And then Jie Shan was alone, standing under the pressure of his gravity chamber. And he was thirsty. Perhaps he would go to the bar. After all, everyone deserved a little break now and again.
I'll take PL, please! I'd like my heavy weights bonus instead of gravity, if applicable, and I would also like my half-Elemi bonus along with LMB! Also, attempting to learn (ST-1) Bulking!
