- Analysis complete, the planet has oxygen and no other hazardous gases. –
He had finally arrived, the black ship known as Specter now silently orbited planet earth, and as the ship computer analyzed the atmosphere Houri on his command chair spoke to Beau on her humanoid form while she studied the map on the command bridge.
- Beau, the mission is to find the famous lookout that Nakiya mentioned, what kind of informations do you have on that place? Also, did you find a good place to land? -
As she tapped on the computer looking for coordinates to land, Beau took a deep breath as she pointed out a big temple like structure high up in the sky and sustained by what looked like a single pillar. With that, Beau took her hand to her forehead while stating.
- It is not like they are trying to hide or something, Take a look, it is in plain sight, I mean, at least for someone who can fly, it’s located very high and above the clouds, so people down the ground should be unable to see it with ease, however the pillar that sustains it must be visible though. There is a forested region nearby do you want to land there?
As she typed on the computer and used the information from the ship, Beau only awaited for Houri acknowledgment for them to land on a forested area a few miles away. However, no matter how they decided to land, the ship would be unable to remain inconspicuous, black over 200 meters in length and 100 meters in width with that size, the ship could be easily spotted, even miles away. Houri had made that assumption sooner, but now, he had to make a decision and be ready for whatever came with that. He knew little about the planet inhabitants and the area was clear of cities, so he would be little problems looking like an invader from another planet, so with his decision in mind, he spoke.
- Well, I guess there is no helping it, redirect the power of the hyperdrive to the shields, that should protect us from the entrance and from blasts from possible enemies, and let’s land on that forested area close to the ocean, we can go flying or by foot from there.
- And remain in humanoid form Beau, I do not know how well they would take you on your base form.
- I was about to say something like it my boy, I just hope you get a warm welcome. –
- By whom? Squirrels? The fewer people see us arriving the better I guess. I will go get dressed, prepare the landing please.
Houri now had been getting so used to being on the ship and commanding it as his own that now giving orders and delegating missions to the AI and to Beau had become a common thing. As he dressed in his best armor and put on the weights on the shoulders, wrists and leg accessories he was now ready do land.
The ship was already in a descent trajectory, the ride was smooth as the ship entered the atmosphere. The Black Specter began to land near the entrance of the forested area without damaging anything and with that, Houri got out of the ship at first trying to sense any ki, and then asking Beau which accompanied him right after.
- So Beau, do you feel anything too? We are finally on Earth, we should fly soon to that place, the lookout. -
What a beautiful place to train, Yasuro thought as he examined his surroundings. The aged warrior had come to the forest surrounding Korin Tower for inspiration for his training. He had, at one point in the day, stood at the foot of the tower looking up. He intended to climb the tower one day, like the warriors of legend have done before him. This day was still far off, however, as the old warrior felt he still needed plenty of training. In fact, he had all the numbers worked out inside of his head; how many hours he would need to train, how many hours of rest, the total cost in zeni for food and water, and at least an estimate of how long it should take him to make it to the top. After doing all this math, Yasuro laughed to himself thinking, I guess old accounting habits die hard.
The old man had already started his training for the day after getting a good look at the tower. He was already starting to feel the wear from the training as well, and his weighted clothing did not help this much. The weights were simple, just large heavy plates on his chest and upper back, as well as a plate on each shoulder. Each plate was covered in a thick bright blue plastic material that stood out against the white kimono he wore underneath. Smaller black weights were worn around both forearms and both calves. All these weights worked together to make every maneuver and every swing of the sword more difficult for Yasuro, conditioning his body for faster movement and more powerful strikes.
After about two hours of practicing drawing his sword and striking, Yasuro decided it was time to rest. He found a comfortable spot leaning against a tree, gazing at the sunlight coming through the canopy overhead. "Let's see. First, I train. Then I climb Korin Tower and train some more. Then I learn to fly, and fly up to the look out," he began saying out loud, his breathing heavy from exhaustion, "Then, if the Kami will allow me, I will begin training with them, whoever it may be. Sounds easy enough." The old man took a drink of water to cool himself down before rising back to his feet. Suddenly, the beams of light that were previously shining through unhindered disappear, and the already dark shadows became even darker. Yasuro looked up just in time to see the menacing black ship fly over head.
Yasuro ran through the forest, trying his best to keep pace with the ship while forgetting to remove his heavy weights. What was that? he thought as weaved his way through the forest, Is it someone hostile? And if it is, what do I think I'm going to do about it? The old man slowed as he approached the ship's landing site. From where he was, though he could see the ship, he could not see much of anything else. Yasuro remembered that he had recently learned the technique to sense the ki of other people. He closed his eyes and began to concentrate, reaching out with his senses. I feel... two... people? They're powerful, at least more powerful than me. Maybe this was a mistake, Yasuro thought, opening his eyes to continue watching the ship.
- So Beau, really, no one around? Well, so much for a warm welcome, at least we have not upset anyone or caused any trouble. –
Houri would ask Beau if she could sense anyone, not that he did not knew how to do it, he knew how to sense ki around, however, he wanted to see how well she would act and use her abilities. To his surprise, the dragon would just let out a pulse of electrical energy, too low to be harmful but wide enough to give her a good feeling of how many creatures were around them. With that, the tall female pointed to the direction of the woods, stating.
- Well my boy, we have a visitor after all, it is a inhabitant, I do not know about his power, but it seems by his electrical field, he is not a young man… How would you like to proceed master? –
He did not knew why Beau had changed her tone and composure, usually she was always relaxed and laid back about everything, but then again, it must had been because they were alone, now she had a more respectful and serious composure and even adopted a more respectful tone to call him. It was weird and reminded him of how Vulpeca used to act when Nakiya was around in social situations. He shrugged, that was how she was going to act? Well, he would see to it later, what did mattered right now was that he had someone around, and while he should feel worried about the possible power and how someone would react to his ship and his arrival, Houri just smiled and said with all of his lungs.
- HEEEEEEYY COME OUT WE ARE NICE PEOPLE , MY NAME IS HOURI!!! –
Beau facepalmed, she was not expecting her friend and master to be so simple in a salutation like that specially someone whose planet had been visited, Houri just floated around with his legs opened while circling Beau that by now, tried to keep her face serious actually just waited for the person to come out on their own.
Yasuro kept watch from a safe distance as he felt the two move out of the ship. He still could not see much from where he was standing, and questioned whether or not he should try to get a closer look. I've got to get a better look, he thought as he made up his mind. The old man moved closer to the edge of the forest, searching where he felt the ki energy. Then he saw what to him was a rather unexpected sight. The first thing he noticed was a rather tall woman with silver hair and wearing rather revealing blue armor. Yasuro then noticed what appeared to be a child standing next to her. He watched as the two of them conversed for the moment, then the child called out to Yasuro, introducing himself as Houri.
The old man contemplated his choices for a moment. It was obvious that they already knew he was there, but they didn't seem to be hostile. Yasuro let out a deep sigh and rose from his hiding place. He said nothing until he made it a few meters in front of the two. He bowed and said, "Hello, Houri, my name is Yasuro Yoshumane. I am very sorry if I am intruding upon you. I was here, training, when I saw your craft fly over head. I hide myself because I was unsure of who, or what, could have just landed. You see, Earth has quite the history of being attacked by people from other worlds." Yasuro rose from his bow took this opportunity to take in what he can, visually.
He could see that the boy named Houri was indeed young, and from his appearance, Yasuro figured he must be a saiyan, which in his eyes would explain why the boy was so powerful. The woman, on the other hand, was something else. While she was not Yasuro's type, he could see that she was quite beautiful. What she was, however, he couldn't quite tell. He did however have some thoughts on what she was wearing. That armor is rather... lewd, he thought, knowing it would be rude to say out loud. "You landed rather close to the tower, and the lookout as well. I am assuming that this is where you were heading?" the curious old man inquired.
“ So, is bowing a thing here? It’s how they greet? I cannot give out a bad impression, this man seems like an elder warrior, but I do not feel that much power coming from him, maybe he is suppressing it.”
As Houri contemplated the man that bowed to him, the kid wondered and looked at Beau that with a slight nod confirmed that it was indeed what he was thinking, a show of respect and a greeting. With that in mind, the kid bowed in return and stated, as he looked the man clad in blue weights his eyes moved from the clothes to the sword.
- I am honored to meet you mr Yoshumane, and, I am the one to be sorry for interrupting your training, I am just arriving on your planet and I was planning on not alarming anyone, and well, we are good people, I will not demand you to take me to your ladder or anything. –
- Leader, master, Leader.-
When Houri spoke the word ladder instead of leader, Beau slightly corrected him with a small and gentle smile as she looked the small boy talking and getting to know the man, and with that, the kid proceeded in talking with the man.
- Yes, Leader, sorry. And, well, indeed my objective is to know a bit better that tower, also, this is Beau, my… My Guardian.
With a gesture towards Beau, Houri gave leave to her to make her introduction and speak what she had in mind, he however was interested in the Tower and by looking it from afar a few questions popped in his mind. Beau in the other hand, bowed a bit and smiled to the man and soon after used her left hand to wave her hair a bit. She was polite and while in some lewd armor she remained respecful and with her eyes looked on the man's eyes.
- It is a pleasure to meet you mr Yoshumane, I take it that you are a warrior from earth, well, would you be so kind to introduce us a bit of your planet’s history, if it is not much of a trouble, also my master is greatly interested in the lookout and how important it is to this planet. –
- Do Humans fly over the look out? How does that huge thing can be sustained by just that pillar, is that magic? –
Houri was a kid, curious and innocent as he was, he was not in the slightest worried about the man and the sword he carried, at most, the kid wandered if he was strong or what kind of techniques did he used. Was that a thing in earth, to used swords or other weapons?
"No, no. You mustn't apologize. I was getting rather tired as it was,. I'm not young anymore, after all. And I made the embarrassing and exhausting mistake of not taking off my training weights before following you spaceship," Yasuro said as he smiled and laughed to himself when he heard the boy make the mistake. "It is fine," he replied to Houri's apology, still smiling. Seeing Houri display such manners made the old man happy, but also made him feel old for being happy at seeing the youth's manners. Both of the visitors to Earth had called Yasuro 'Mr. Yoshumane', something that he enjoyed back in his days as a boring accountant, but as the noble warrior he wished to become, he preferred the simpler 'Yasuro'.
"Just Yasuro is fine, no need to be so formal. I am honored, as well, to meet you both," Yasuro said, giving another slight bow, "And no, Beau, I am not a warrior. Not yet, at least. I assume you ask because of the sword." He pulled his sword, sheath and all, from his belt and held it out, examining it as he continued to speak. "This sword has been passed down through my family for generations, and has only recently been passed to me. My hope is to use it to bring honor back to my family name. Anyway, that is enough about me. You asked about Korin Tower and the Lookout above it, and I will be happy to tell you what I know." Yasuro put his sword back through his belt as he turned to face the tower.
Where to begin? he thought as he stared into the distance for a moment, his natural storyteller side taking control. "Yes, the tower. That column you see rising into the sky is known as Korin Tower, named after a legendary hero. At the top is a keep that was once inhabited by a tower guardian, also named Korin. Many would climb to the top of this tower in hopes of obtaining what is known as the 'sacred water', which is said to enhance your power," Yasuro paused for a second to look back at his new acquaintances before continuing, "One legend says that the tower is actually a still living tree, covered in stone plates, and that the tower get bigger every year." Yasuro then glances up high into the sky, squinting as is that would help him see the lookout.
"Now the Lookout is a very important part of Earth's history, as is the tower. It is the home of the Kami, Earth's guardian. It is also a headquarters of sorts for the warriors that protect Earth. To answer your question, Houri, it is a common misconception that the tower and the Lookout are connected. It is in a sense true, but not in the way most think. You see, legend has it that a young warrior wanted to reach the Lookout from Korin Tower, but like me, he could not fly." Yasuro gave another pause, this time thinking of the long road he has ahead of him. "It's said that he had a magical staff in his possession that could extend, almost infinitely, with a simple command. The young warrior climbed to the very top of the tower and used the magical staff to lift himself all the way up to the Lookout, and in the process, connected the two forever."
As Yasuro explained his story to Houri the kid locked his eyes into the Elder warrior as he listened, every word and every movement from that man were being cautiously studied, as if he were the most important person in the world, the way he dressed, the weights, the sword, the appearance and the hair. He might only be a beginner in the ways of the warrior however, he had it, the spark, the inner energy that drew warriors to one another.
Houri could not help but smile and wonder if every earthling were like this or dressed that way, but for now, his focus remained in the man in front of him as he explained how the Korin tower came to be. Indeed the story was interesting and the mention of a special water that could enhance the powers of those who drank it made a spark of interest flare in the mind of the boy making him think and reminisce about his incursion to the demon realm with Nakiya.
Did this water had special properties, like the one from the Makai? He had no particular interest, but it was indeed curious, maybe Nakiya would like to know about it? Not quite, with her knowledge Houri thought that she might had already information about these kinds of things. However, now as Yasuro finished his explanation, dozens of questions formulated in his mind as he started once again to float around, Beau, while still on the ground put her arms behind her back as she listened the kid speak.
- Wow Mr Yoshumane, I mean, Yasuro, these are amazing stories, does everyone on earth knows how to tell them or is this just a personal knowledge of yours? I would like to understand, who are exactly the Kami, is he or she a god or a King or Queen to this planet, also, these warriors, are they a group? Wow so much things to learn here. –
While Houri was talking and almost shooting out questions to Yasuro, Beau on the other hand was completely silent, even gazing far away in the direction of the tower as if measuring its height, she even stated in a calmer demeanor what she had in mind.
- I take it that for one to be considered worthy he or she must take the challenge and climb the tower on their own, no shortcuts, not flight, no nothing. I make that assumption by thinking that if the warrior that climbed this tower long ago had a staff that grew to almost infinite proportions if he were to use it he would climb in a few minutes this tower.
Houri that just asked dozens of questions, now fell silent as he inevitably came to agree with Beau as she stated her assumption, it was valid enough and made sense, however, one thing that Yasuro had said caught the kid’s attention as he started to walk the old man circling him.
- So, you can’t fly? I mean, is this a thing, humans do not learn this when they are kids? How funny. In my planet, the culture of it raises us as warriors from birth and because of this, they are either ranked low caste Saiyans or as Elite, and all of us are taught how to fly from very early ages. It is very helpful and fun.
With his statement, Beau was the first to speak while Houri still circled the man inspecting his strength.
- Master, I do believe he is not very experienced in the usage of the ki as he stated he only just became a warrior, maybe he occupied another position in society, may I remember that Earth as a different culture than the planet Vegeta, and here the cultural development is focused towards goals other than just combat and wars. –
Houri had stopped and with his head, nodded in agreement while reaching his hands forward and calling for the attention of the man in front of him while asking at the same time his hands started to glow bright blue with his power.
- Do you know how to you your ki like this Yasuro? Because if you do, then this will make what I want to teach you for being kind to me and telling me this story, much easier, if not, well, we will have to start from scratch, but we have time. –
The energy in his hands had reached a point where he formed a small ball of light and shot it forward, up in the sky making it blow in a couple of sparks of energy just to show what he was talking about.
- I will teach you how to fly, if you want… It is not hard and I can teach you in one full day. Would you like that? Also, what kind of techniques do you use with your blade?
Yasuro could see the interest in the young boy's face, which made him feel proud of his story telling skills, and he could see the boy's excitement when the lad began to levitate off the ground. He listened closely to Houri's questions and replied, "It may be considered common knowledge to some, while others may have never even heard most of it. I began studying these legends for myself as soon as I decided to take up the sword. My family's own history is linked to the Kami, though not the current one. I don't know much about the current Kami, but some say it is a beautiful young women; one with great power. As far as the warriors go... 'Earth Special Forces' is a name I've heard used to describe them."
Now the Beau had spoken, reminding Yasuro of a detail he had forgotten. "Yes, you are correct, Beau. The truth is, the true increase to one's power comes through the act of climbing the tower. It was said that it took the warrior three days to make it to the top. The sacred water isn't in the tower, but I do still believe it exists. I've heard rumors that it is on the lookout."
Yasuro watched as Houri put on a small display of his abillities, and couldn't help but feel a little jealous. If only I had started training at his age. Would be nice to have all those years back, the old man thought. "It is true, it is not a common technique for one to learn on Earth, though it is gaining popularity. I would be both grateful and honored to have you teach me how to fly," Yasuro replied, "As far as my ability to focus my ki... I can focus it, to some extent. Mostly I use it to enhance my Iaido. It is a technique that I learned from scrolls that my father left behind. To do it, I must quickly draw my sword and strike in one smooth motion. I do not think my father ever learned to fly, nor is any such technique in any of the scrolls."
Yasuro removed his sword from his belt once more, this time with his left hand on the sheath and his right hand on the hilt of his sword, the sword out in front of himself. "Speaking of my sword, let me introduce you to my... companion," Yasuro said as he began to slowly draw his blade, "His name is Motatsake, and, like I already mentioned, he has been passed down through the generations. There are legends, told with its passing, that when the previous wielder dies, his soul becomes part of it." The blade shines in the sunlight, showing that it is well taken care of. With the blade now completely drawn, Yasuro holds it high, pointing it into the sky, looking down the back of it with one eye shut. "I'm not one to believe in that kind of thing, but I know that this is true. I... can feel that it is true whenever I wield it."
The old warrior now lowered his sword and returned the sheath to his belt. As a display of skill, Yasuro spun the sword in his hand, ending the spin with the back of the blade laying against the opening of the sheath. He slid the blade forward, nearly the entire length of the blade sliding over the top of the sheath. When he got to the tip, he moved the hilt up and slid Motatsake back into the sheath. The old man smiled and laughed to himself. What am I doing, trying to show off? I'm sure the two of them have seen much more amazing things. Still I remember how I felt when father would do it, he thought.
As Yasuro explained the story of the Kami and the earth special-forces, Houri could only wonder about how strong these warrior could be, was it a pre requisite to climb the tower in order to meet the Kami or to become a protector of it? If he did climbed and conquered the challenge of the tower, would he be considered worthy or capable of meeting the Kami? All those questions only made him more excited to be able to climb the Tower and conquer the legendary challenge, he could feel the rush of it just by thinking about his triumph; Little did he knew the difficulty of it, for what he did not accounted for was the constant growth of the supposed tree.
If by the time the warrior once climbed it took him three days, now it would take at least a week for him to climb it with only his hands and with no ki. He smiled, he was determined to do it, and with his weights. It was settled, and as Beau looked at Houri he smiled and nodded stating while looking at Yasuro now showing his skills.
- I will climb this tower with just my body, no skills, no ki, nothing, and still wearing my weighted armor and I will conquer it in half the time! HÁ! I will start as soon as you can Fly Yasuro. –
Even if his statement might have sounded arrogant, Houri was confident in his capabilities and there was nothing in the world that could make him think otherwise, and while the kid marveled at looking Yasuro handle the sword the way he did and even state that he could use the ki to apply it to the sword, the kid finally gave in to his childish ways as he spoke while at jumps.
- THIS IS AMAZING! Look at the skill Beau! It makes me want to use a sword to! Incredible, he makes it look so easy. Tell me something Yasuro, can you cut a tree in the middle of the trunk? Can you show me?
As Houri asked about what the man could do with his ki and with his sword, Houri now a little less excited wondered how to teach the man how to properly fly, it was his first time as a teacher and he needed to do it correctly. With that in mind the kid asked for Beau.
- Beau, please, get me my science glasses please… -
- Right away master. –
As the woman left the two men alone, the kid smiled and with his hand started to focus his ki around it, his hand was in the shape of a knife and while the ki gathered around it, the hand began to glow blue with power. In a swift motion, as if cutting the air the Kid swiftly released the ki in his hand in a small blue wave describing an arc on the floor and cutting the grass in front of it. With that, Houri said.
- Yasuro, the ki is very versatile and useful, we can use it to cut things, to mend other people, to explode things, to fly and even to be able to destroy things as big as castle… Ahem… Some even use the ki as a mantle, like I am about to demonstrate. –
Houri closed his eyes, and a second later the air around him stalled, all the movement from leaves and grass stopped, and in a swift explosion of wind and dust the kid emanated a blue aura around him doubling his current power. The energy was enough to crush smaller stones and even blow away the leaves around, and while that technique was simple indeed, it illustrated what he wanted to tell about the versatility of the ki.
Just as he finished his demonstration, Beau had appeared from within the ship with the small pair of fake glasses that Houri used to look smarter, it was plain to anyone to see how fake the glasses were; He kid liked them nevertheless.
- Thank you Beau, in short Yasuro, to fly you will need to do it just like I did, first, gather your ki inside of you, all of it, and then cover yourself with it like if you were submerged in water, remain focused at it for the longest you can, a minute, an hour, even more if you can, that will help you to focus how long and how steady your flight will be. –
He adjusted the glasses as he spoke in manner that it was believed the man could understand since he was more experienced. Beau, while Houri started the explanation entered the ship once again and vanishing for the next few hours as the kid kept his newly started training with Yasuro.
- So, once you are able to keep the flow of ki steady around you, then you can use it in a more concentrated way, make it keep flowing but focus your power in a direction to lift you up, once you are afloat, then you just have to regulate the amount of power you are setting in the direction opposed of that you want to go. For instance, if I want to go forward, I focus my ki to be shooting out from my back, do you get it?
The kid had talent to be a teacher? He had no idea if he had or not, however, the words flowed as he began once again to explain another application of the ki usage to Yasuro.
- Also, if you are quick to master the Ki, you can also use it more often in your techniques, for instance, you could enhance the range of your cuts with a line of ki, or send a cutting wave of energy from the blade, the applications are many for this kind of thing, only your imagination limits you. –
It had been more than two hours since the exercise had begun, and both the man and Houri might at this point start feeling hungry, and with that possibility in mind Beau had come to the rescue, the woman had a cart behind her being rolled down from the ship with a few pieces of meat, chicken, rice, vegetables, potatoes and some fruits, all that the body needed to function in a proper way. Upon seeing this, Houri smiled and said as he gesture to Yasuro to stop while watching the cart.
- Hey Yasuro, let’s eat, no one should expend that amount of energy training without some good food to back up ourselves up. Thank you so much Beau, it looks delicious!
- You are welcome master Houri, please enjoy, I will be joining the lunch too, and Yasuro, are you making progress with the flight technique?
The old man laughed at Houri's enthusiasm about climbing the tower. "Yes, Houri, I do believe you will! What a optimistic young man you are," Yasuro praised the boy for his spirit. That kind of drive was something the he hadn't felt in a long while, and once again, he felt a little jealous of the boy, though his face would not show it. He was more happy than anything, however, feeling he had made two new friends, and was about to receive some much needed training in the process. Yasuro had hope to ascend the tower himself soon, but not until he felt he was ready.
Houri's response to Yasuro's little demonstration almost made the old man blush. I cannot believe he was impressed by that. It was more show than any actual skill, Yasuro thought. The rest of Houri's response made him think as well. Why haven't I tried to cut down a tree? Yasuro pondered the boy's question. "To be honest, Houri, I've never really tried. I've cut a few straw mannequins in half, but never a tree. Maybe I can soon. It would give me an opportunity to show you my Iaido at the same time," he replied. Yasuro didn't mention that he had doubts that he could do it, however. He was enjoying the apparent admiration he was getting from the vastly more powerful saiyan child.
Once again Houri demonstrated his ability to use his ki. Yasuro was impressed with the easy in which the child could gather his ki, and the control over it he demonstrated. He watched as the boy projected the ki toward the ground, cutting some of the grass. It reminded the old warrior of some of the training scrolls he received from his father. He recalled images of a warrior swinging his sword and a blade like energy seemed to fly out. Yasuro planned on taking a look at these scrolls again, once he returned to his RV. Houri explained the uses for ki in a way that made Yasuro chuckle a little. The young saiyan began another demonstration and this time it really caught Yasuro's attention.
Yasuro was caught off guard by the concussion that Houri had sent out by powering up, and was very nearly sent tumbling backwards. The old man's hair whipped about like silver flames in the wind that the young boy was generating. His power just jumped even higher, he thought. Yasuro didn't need to use his ki sense to know that Houri's power had just increased greatly. Just as quickly as it had started, the demonstration had ended, when Beau had returned with something for Houri. He is a child, after all, Yasuro thought when he saw Houri put on his noticeably fake glasses. Houri explained what he had done and how it related to flying. Guess that means it's my turn now the old man thought.
Yasuro stretched to prepare himself for the task at hand. "I'll do my best," he told Houri before closing his eyes. The warrior began to empty his mind of anything but Houri's words. He did his best to gather his ki, like told, and then surround himself with it. He focused on keeping this going for as long as he could. Starting to feel confident, Yasuro attempted to push his ki bellow him. he felt himself start to slowly lift off the ground, his toes still just barely touching the grass. Is this it? Am I doing this? Yasuro's thoughts began to wander and he felt himself begin to wobble and then fall. The old man couldn't catch himself in time as he fell, rolling backwards and almost back onto his feet. He knew taking his weights off would make thing easier, but he was determined to master flying with them on.
Without a word, he climbed back to his feet and began again. This time he held his focus longer before trying to lift off of the ground. When he felt ready, he pushed off the ground once more getting a little higher, but again falling and rolling backward. Yasuro got back on his feet even faster this time and began to focus once more. This had continued for a while and Yasuro's determination never faltered. My body will give up before I do, he told himself. The last time he tried, he laid his left hand on the hilt of his sword. His mind cleared of all thoughts, even the boy's instructions. Suddenly he heard Houri's voice calling out to him. Yasuro opened his to see that Beau had once again returned, but this time had brought the two food. This is also when Yasuro realized that he was floating a few feet off the ground.
This time, Yasuro did fall, but was able to return slowly back to the ground, though he stumbled a bit on his landing. I... I did it, Yasuro happily thought. He approached Houri, dropping his weights to the ground, and said with a smile, "Houri, thank you. You have made this old man very happy. Though I am also very hungry."
- If you just keep your abilities under your expectation and under the normal limits that you are used to, you will never go beyond that. Yasuro, if you want to be great, forget about limits, reason, common sense, if it is possible or not, just do it and if you fail, repeat until you can do it. You set your limits, and I believe that once you apply that, you will cut the heavens, mountains, stars and anything that comes between you and your blade. –
Houri reply to Yasuro’s statement was simple, he understood that the man had recently joined this world of power and impossible, but what he could tell the man was just that, forget about the limits he knew and prepare to embrace a life without them. The kid really believed in the warrior, it could be said he even put faith on him.
During that afternoon and as Yasuro practiced Houri tried his best to remain silent, however he was clearly expectant to see how well and how fast the man would develop his own skills and with the progress being made he could only feel pride swell within due to his lesson being so effective to someone, that even made him at some point wonder if he should get a teacher’s hat for his glasses or a coat, but for now, he would only try to get a board to draw his lessons. Of course, it was all part of his childish moments.
After the man had made his first progress and was able to attain stable altitude with his ki, Houri smiled congratulating him while pointing to the recently arrived food.
- I knew you would get the hang of it Yasuro, you are a very quick learner! I am glad I could help, now it is just practice, the more you do it the more natural it will feel, it is pretty much like walking or breathing if you think about it. But now, let’s eat, I am hungry and you must be too! –
Beau just as Houri had pointed to the food brought the cart around assembling a medium table for everyone to eat, and with that, peace and quiet ensued. The small Saiyan while with his mouth full pointed to Yasuro that he could eat as much as he wanted, he knew what was to starve and to feel hungry and if were up to him, no one at his table would feel hungry or even suffer from the same fate he once did. Even Beau had no qualms about eating, and while her body was lean and slender she ate with satisfaction while stating.
- Yasuro, I see that you have made progress in your attempt to fly, it is good to see such results in such a short time, I believe that in no time you should be able to make a name for yourself among the earth special forces, if that is your desire. But, please, do tell us, what do you have in mind for your future? –
While Houri was more laidback and enjoyed the meal, Beau always had a different attitude, it was not hostile, but it was more collected towards others, even more polite, as if always alert to protect Houri if needed, it was something fun to watch, as if anyone would look and could feel their powers would understand that the kid, despite his size was much more powerful than her, but as it turned out, it was not just about power, Beau in fact acted more as guardian to Houri in his innocent actions, and that is why at all moments she made sure to look firm and serious.
- I have to say something, you know Yasuro, back in my planet we do not have this kind of scenario, the flowers, the grass, trees, lakes, it is really a beautiful planet, It’s no wonder that you have a guardian to this planet and even warriors dedicated to this kind of thing, who would not be proud or want to protect such a place.
- What are the people here like, I mean, in Vegeta, mostly are warriors, some are scavengers, raiders, kindness is a rare thing among the people of my planet, it is why the place is a barren wasteland with little resources, or at least used to be, I heard now that it is slowly changing. –
While the meal was carried on with conversations from both ends, Houri and Beau talked with Yasuro about a bit of their culture, and while the child sometimes displayed a bit of a mature and even highly intellectual behavior with his lessons and tips about the ki, now he was just playing with chopsticks making funny faces while laughing his lungs out with Yasuro.
- I will begin my climb in the next few days Yasuro, want to try climb it with me? It could be fun, I plan on training on my gravity chamber a bit before, strengthen my muscles and work on my endurance. Do you have those here on earth? -
When one decides to become a herbalist; they have many options and routes to choose from when it comes to their craft. Anything from location, sunlight, and soil standards could make or break a harvest. It was in Valentine's study of Korin's tower and the gifted who sought power and fame by climbing such a tower that Valentine made a rather lucrative discovery. The lands that surrounded Korin's tower were extremely fertile.
After spending sometime in the area and planting some of his product; Valentine discovered it nearly halved his gestation and growth periods. With this in mind, Valentine intended to build a new base of operations out here as he imagined his profit margins only increasing by utilizing the nearby lands. However, Valentine also needed to be careful and quiet about his involvement within the area; less other dealers or potentially stronger warriors attempt to annex his land for themselves.
As the driver of his hover-van expertly weaved between and around trees to avoid crashing; Valentine laid in the back with his product soundly asleep. Even with hover technology thanks to the need for discretion and safety; it had taken them several hours to drive out to Korin's tower.
A loud chirp rang into Valentines ear and with a groan of irritation; Valentine slowly woke up to check his phone. It was one of his main distributors asking him when he'd be free for him to pick up some more supply. Valentine managed to text him that some more product was en-route already before passing back out into the land of dreams. Merely a few moments later, the hover van would began to swerve and ultimately crash into a tree waking Valentine up violently.
As Valentine struggled to fight off his sleep fatigue; he heard his driver hop out of the van and scream. "I do not get paid enough for this! It's an attack!" This was enough to send the blood and fresh adrenaline pumping through Valentines veins like molten lava; it brought clarity to his thoughts and actions. Sitting up, Valentine grabbed his shirt before making his way out of the back of the truck to look around as a giant black ship seemed to loom overhead completely eclipsing them and the sun for the moment.
As the ship flew overhead bringing in large gusts of winds through the forest; the smell of pine and his product threatened to overwhelm his senses completely. However, nothing could even seem to bypass the fact that the Earth was surely being invaded by an alien overlord and Valentine couldn't help but note how terrible this would be for business. Finally, the idea would strike that maybe the alien overlord would need his product as well thus making his at least somewhat valuable, at least he hoped.
Still, Valentine couldn't do much more than hope that the 'heroes' would soon fly in and take care of this problem. However, Valentine was now out of a driver and would be forced to salvage the hover-van as well as pilot it himself. This forced Valentine to feel a rather large sense of anger momentarily as Valentine prided himself on his laid back at ease persona. Now not only was Valentine forced to actually work today but now his curiosity was beginning to override his common sense. So without much of a counter argument; Valentine locked the hover-van before beginning his trek to follow the descending ship.
As he continued on the path that the rather large ship made easy to follow; he began to note sounds of other lifeforms though his mind could have tricked him. However, as the ship landed; Valentine did his best to hide behind a nearby tree to listen in on what the 'alien overlord' wanted as it became apparent that the overlord had found someone willing to speak with him. It wasn't until about halfway into their conversation that Valentine began to suspect that maybe these visitors weren't here to take over. Curiosity and a brief bout of optimism allowed Valentine to step from behind the tree.
"Hello. So it seems as if you guys are pretty stand up people when compared to your typical 'alien overlord'." As he said this, Valentine's tail swished back and forth as an obvious signal of how nervous he was internally.
The old warrior felt rather proud, having made progress so quickly. Now, however, his focus was on getting something to eat to get some of his strength back. Yasuro approached Beau and the cart, "Thank you, Beau," he said with a bow before helping himself to some of the meats and vegetables, but not before letting Houri get something to eat first. As the old man ate, he watched Houri, pondering on what kind of future the cheerful young warrior would have. "When I first came to this forest to train, I expected to ran into another warrior, but I did not expect to run into one as kind as you, Houri," Yasuro said after some time, "Your kindness is something I hope you never lose as you get older. That sort of thing happens too often already."
Beau then spoke, asking Yasuro about his future. Yasuro thought for a moment. "My plans for the future? I haven't thought about them too much, but I do have some. I hope to fly to the lookout and meet the Kami. I want to pledge my sword to her, and ask if I may train with her and the other warriors," the warrior replied. This was indeed his plan; to serve the Kami like his ancestors once did. This was the best way he knew to restore his family's honor, and maybe the only way. I don't know what I'd do if this did not work.
Yasuro then listened to what Houri had to say. "Yes, this world is worth protecting," he replied. Houri then asked about the people of Earth, and explain how the people of his own world were. Yasuro looked at the boy, thinking now that he must be one of a kind, and replied, "There are many kinds of people on this world. There are those that are cruel, and those that are kind as well. Though it does seem that, even here on Earth, true kindness seems to be a rare thing. My mother was a very kind woman, and she tried to raise me to be the same. She would always say that there was enough cruelty in this world, and that there is no need to add anymore. My father, on the other hand, thought that too much kindness would make one weak." Yasuro fell silent for a moment, his face showed that he was now deep in thought.
Despite Yasuro's own serious tone, Houri had kept things light. The old warrior couldn't help but laugh at the boy's silly behavior. Houri had managed to bring sheer back to Yasuro, something that he had been missing for a long while. Houri then asked if the old warrior would like to climb the tower with him. Would be sooner than I planned, Yasuro thought, But it would be nice to make the climb with someone else. He made his choice and answered the young boy, "Yes, Houri, it does sound like fun. I'll make the climb with you." Then he began to sense that someone was near. He looked into the forest and saw that someone was approaching.
Yasuro watched this new visitor closely, seeing the tail swing back and forth.Another saiyan? No, this one is different from your typical saiyan, the old man thought to himself. One thing he was sure of, though, was that this newcomer was nervous. Feeling out the man's ki, Yasuro didn't think the man to be any threat, especially not with the young and yet powerful Houri nearby. "Hello, friend. No, that we are not. I'm guessing you followed this ship out of curiosity, as did I. You have no need to be nervous, however. These visitors from another world are very friendly, and very happy to make friends," Yasuro replies, motioning to Houri and Beau, giving them a chance to introduce themselves.
Houri could not help but to listen with great interest as the elder man gave him sound advice and wise points of view, and in fact; he did agree with him about making everything not to lose his kindness. He knew that deep down he would not change, if he had not changed before over the things he had been thru, he would not change now. However when he heard about the way Yasuro meet them, he could not help but to laugh has he reminisced at his own past due to the events that happened in a very similar yet different way. After a mouthful of meat, Houri said.
- Life is a funny thing Yasuro, with these kinds of meetings then, sheesh I have a story to tell you about things like that! I am an orphan, I did not knew my mom or my father and my foster mother passed away when I was six, so, to cut to the chase, I grew up in the wastelands of my planet, hunting, fighting, scavenging and doing everything I could to survive. It was a tough life and showering, eating hot food and sleeping with some degree of comfort were things that I could only dream. The thing is, one day I was training in the wastelands when one of my ki blasts almost ripped of the arm of the man responsible for the change I had in my life. Not only he did save me from a life of misery but he gave me all I needed to start with my life, clothes, armor, education, acknowledgment. If weren’t for him, I do not know what would have happened to me.
- So I have to tell you, sometimes, these meetings can be life changing, you just need to know how to look and at them. For you to understand a bit better, this friend of mine, helped me with everything, even with this ship.
Upon hearing his plans, both Beau and Houri smiled, the kid wondered about his pledge, how that would work and even questioned how he wished to bind his freedom to the kami in order to gain honor. meanwhile, Beau had he own point of view to share, in a more collected way and with a more disrupted attention, after all, she had with her electricity sensing ability, felt another approaching life form.
- Well, if I may add, I think you should not pledge your sword, a bound sword cuts just in a single way, the Kami might change, her personality and point of view, things might go different from your ideals at some point, so, if I can make a suggestion. Make a pledge to yourself, to protect this land, the people who live here and those who cannot protect themselves that is the most important.
- Besides you will be serving the Kami by doing it and getting stronger at the same time. The best pledge you can make is the one to your own freedom. –
While Houri exposed his words to Yasuro, he could not help but to notice Beau, that while tense, pointed out to the man coming close to their camp,
- We are not alone anymore Master.
To his surprise, not only the visitor was calm and collected about them, and the ship, or at least It seemed, he was also a Saiyan, and despite the tail showing clear signs that Houri was a bit mistaken, it was impossible to hide his excitement to see someone from his own race at Earth.
- I can’t believe it! Another Saiyan? Here! OH WOW I was not expecting this, please, come on closer, it is nice to see another Saiyan around, are you a local? Please, by all means, join us!
Valentine couldn't know what to make of the trio with most of them seeming very friendly besides Beau who seemed to be watching him closely. Still, Valentine reckoned that being watched and welcomed was many steps better than outright attacked. Valentine was no slouch when it came to fighting but with all these ki users and such popping up; Valentine stood no chance against those who fought with powers.
"Wow, let me first say that I did not expect a friendly welcome so forgive me if I seem a little taken back." Valentine prided himself on his carefully crafted facade of laziness and laid back persona which made this out of character display shameful in his opinion. Still, he was rather glad that at least if worse came to worst; Valentine could go back fix his van and leave. They didn't seem like the type of aliens who abducted people and already made their intention of peace clear. This left Valentine kind of puzzled as he was used to people who liked to take advantage of weakness or were always seeking something usually monetary for themselves.
"So. . .I reckon this is your first time on Earth? What about you Elder?" Valentine spoke the former towards Houri and the latter towards Yasuro. And then finally addressing the elephant in the room that was unnerving Valentine. "She's not going to try to kill me or something is she?" To be truthful; Valentine wasn't used to being analyzed and watched which is what was really unnerving him. Valentine didn't want to run the risk of anyone seeing through his facade of average intelligence backed with the laziness of a couch potato. The birds in the area chirped as they finally adjusted to the entrance of the ship enough to return to their respective nests though even the birds seemed to keep a wary eye out.
It was then that Houri's statement fully hit him as he'd originally only half heard him out of sheer nervousness. "By the way what's a Saiyan and what make you think I could be one? Is it the tail? I gotta admit they are kinda similar. . . I guess? Are all Saiyan's like yourself? And what species is she? She doesn't look like any of us; not in a bad way ma'am." He added the last bit to his major run on thoughts expressed as broken sentences as a bout of excitement hit him. To be honest, while their were many animal hybrid people on Earth; the fact that Valentine may be in fact an alien seemed rather cool and like an adventure in itself.
Finally, it dawned on Valentine that in his excitement; he'd broken character but hopefully not obviously as he suddenly quieted himself allowing himself moments to calm his excitement. Turning towards Yasuro "And Elder judging from your training equipment and such. Am I correct and assuming your these two teacher? Nice sword by the way." Valentine then returned his attention back to the entire trio knowing they might have questions as he surely did.
