Atsuko had finished an extensive set of training, it was back to exploring because of that! Her new power made it feel rather secure, even if there were things that boggled her mind... Whatever it was, she had to set it aside. She found a Forest that she had yet to enter, Fukurou Forest, to be exact. The Albino Saiyan decided it was time to explore this location, and landed in the middle of the Forest... Usually, they seemed so peaceful. But this time, it was late at night. It made them appear a bit unsettling, truthfully. Or perhaps it was just this one.
There was something off in the air, she couldn't quite tell what it was. But Atsuko did feel as though it was good timing for her to arrive when she did. She began to look around the woods as she wandered, she could sense faint traces of life, but nothing really substantial in terms of Ki. Likely it was just wild animals. It was shaping up to be an uneventful walk through the forest, despite it's current unsettling appearance. But that was when she felt something familiar to her, an aura that she had been in close proximity to before...
She followed it, the path taking her rather deep into the woods. She was definitely heading in the right direction, the sensation was getting stronger. It eventually opened up into what appeared to be a small grove, scarce amounts of light reached down here. There was a small pond that stood between her and a cave entrance. Atsuko made her way around the pond, and peered into the cave. Whatever it was that she was feeling, it was down here. She took out her torch, and used some of her Ki to spark it once more.
Then she entered the cave. Being mindful not to catch the flames on anything that could start an unwanted fire; including her own cape. It wasn't the largest cave. Nor the most interesting one, but it did allow whoever was inside to be alone, if that was what they were after. And that just might be the case, the Albino Saiyan continued her trek inside, only to find that it came to a dead end. It had shaped into a natural rounded 'room'. And in the middle of it was sitting someone she had met before. She approached just as calm as before.
"Bernael, what are you doing here?", she inquired. It had been awhile since they met each other. The last time was during Tau's training. She remembered helping the man there because he didn't even know how to use Ki, though judging by what she could sense now, he had made just as much improvements as she predicted. The Knight was honestly impressed. But... Why then, was he here? Such a dark and dreary place made her concerned because of his heritage. The demonic blood must have been taking a toll on him. But she knew that he wasn't evil.

After leaving the terrible and unrelenting times he faced at Mount Paozu, Bernael would return back to the forest he had been at not too long ago. It was a nice place to return to, to clear his head, something familiar, that's what he definitely needed. He wandered the forest again, not wanting to disturb the ninja who he had a short rumble with the last time he was there, until he found a grove that looked nice, he cleaned his hands and wet his hair in the water for a bit before taking a look around, he quickly noticed that there was a cave in this grove, and decided to traverse himself into it. Bernael didn't know what could be down here, but he just wanted somewhere nice to relax, and his walk certainly gave him somewhere to be. A nice, circular cave end was all that would lie at the end, it was almost perfect, so he went to the center and sat down.
The demon boy sat there for some time, not being able to see outside caused him to lose track of time, but it was obviously a while. This was his own peaceful time, time to channel ki throughout his body and mind and to master it just a little bit more each time. However, the lack of focus around him, and extensive focus within him caused him to be caught off guard. Because he hadn't been paying attention a very familiar voice called out to him from in front of him without him knowing they were there. Before he recognized the voice however, he quickly jumped to his feet and in a hostile stance, put his hand on the Ōdachi that was sheathed in his flak vest. Once he got a read on the persons face, his tensed up motions left him and he let go of the sword, returning to just a normal standing position.
"Atsuko..." he would mumble to himself, staring at the lady he had met once before. He'd shake his head for a second before giving a very forced smile. "Well, I'm just here to relax, you see, I came here once in the past, and I found it very well... calm and peaceful, a very nice place to spend time in... plus some things happened, I just, really need relax is all..." he would state very lowly, letting the hollow echo of the room be all that was needed to be heard. He slowly looked around the dull, circular room for a second before staring back at the woman.
"So uh, I assume you didn't come into this forest or this cave just to look for me, what brings you to the forest Atsuko? And uh, aside from that, how have you been, making good progress on getting stronger?" he would ask, trying to move the conversation into the other persons field for the time being. But his stance stayed very relaxed and calm, he didn't want to seem like the same word fumbling, stuttering boy he was back when they first met. Much had happened since they last met and his body was naturally trying to show it on its own.

Apparently, she had caught the man off guard. She carefully held out her hand to show that she didn't mean any harm, though it seems he recognized. It proved an unnecessary action on her part, both soon calmed down, and he began to speak to her. So Bernael came here to relax? He must have been going through some rough times indeed... Well, that didn't sit right with the Knight, but before she could say anything either way, he asked what brought her here. She pondered for a moment on how to respond to that. The Saiyan settled onto the truth.
"Well, I was just exploring the Forest. I finished training earlier and needed a change of pace. Then I felt your presence and followed it until it led me here.", Atsuko explained, and then she smiled. He had definitely gotten stronger. But she couldn't ignore the general state of things for much longer. She gently places a hand on his shoulder. "Bernael, are you alright? You seem like you're really troubled... You don't need to hide anything just because you can fight now.", she added. She then made a small gesture indicating the exit of the cave. "Come on, let's have a walk."
The Albino Saiyan began to walk out of the cave, keeping to a calm pace. Though she made sure that Bernael was following, if he chose not to leave or fell behind for whatever reason, she would stop. It just felt so... Hollow in that cave, they needed some place much more relaxing. The grove was a far better improvement, in her honest opinion. "To respond to your question, I've been making a lot of progress on getting stronger. Thanks to this new weighted cape I got, along with my own sheer effort!", she moved her arm to adjust the cape a little.
She was still speaking just as calmly and friendly as before. "I can tell that you've gotten stronger, too. You've been making a lot of progress, Bernael... Just remember, strength doesn't mean you need to be alone. I'd hope that you can count on me for help.", the Saiyan added. With luck, they were outside of the cave now. The Knight took in a breath of fresh air, then she looked over to the man. "There, isn't that better? Now, want to tell me how things have been going for you? It's been awhile, after all."
Atsuko asked, though if he wasn't comfortable speaking about it, she wasn't going to press the issue much further. She wished to be respectful of her friend, just as much as actually help him. Perhaps she was just trying to coddle him because of his demonic heritage... She felt a sense of duty to look after him, their first interaction formed an almost sibling-like bond, at least to her. Bernael was like a little brother to her. Though she couldn't tell how he felt about her in return. But considering he didn't pull a weapon on her earlier...
It was safe to say that they were getting along well.

Bernael would nod to himself after she responded, and then just sort of responded to her with an "Alright, I wont keep anything" but he didn't say what was troubling him as it seemed that they would be exiting the cave for the time being. He just responded once more with a nod when she asked to take a walk. The demon boy followed close behind, making sure not to miss a step in terms of keep up with the woman. The lady would then respond to his other question, and he lit up just a little bit when he heard it. "Oh really? You have weighted equipment too?" Bernael would happily say, slowly taking off his jacket and flinging it over his shoulder, revealing the heavy flak vest that he was wearing underneath his jacket, as well at the sheath for his Ōdachi within the flak vest. "I wont lie, this weighted clothing stuff is sort of tedious if you aren't used to it, I see now why Tau wanted to take her own off when we were training with her" the boy added on, chuckling lightly while putting back on his jacket.
With a grin on his face, he would nod again, hearing the saiyan woman's next words. "Yeah, I know that I can count on you for help, there's a few others I think I can count on too, my journey and training has taken me quite far on those accounts." he would state right after she stopped her own words. Following close behind, Bernael would step outside with Atsuko and take a breath as well. He let on another very obviously faked smile "Yeah, its better than in the damped cave." was all he could say as he cocked his head for a second. The next words he heard shocked him a little bit as he didn't know how to really respond, but he calmed down and nodded to himself, realizing that he said he wouldn't keep anything from her and that he could count on her.
"Well, after we parted ways, I kept training for a while, and met a decent few people. I had a run in by a lake with a couple of boys, and later on I met another boy on a mountain top, it was quite strange but it was entertaining nonetheless." He said, not having any bad reaction to the words he was saying "Then, in this very forest I had a run in with a temple FILLED with ninja's, most of them were weak and got taken down in just one strike, I didn't use anything fatal of course as I was trespassing on accident. Though there was a big ninja named Ryougi, he was about on par with me, but I used my secret weapon on him and he stood no chance~ I made friends with them and they even thanked me for not killing them when I had the power to." he added on once more, with a very happy and proud tone.
However, right after that point, his face and mood dropped, as he took out his sword, revealing its blade, which was covered in very dried blood. "The most recent thing before I came back here, is why I am like this. I met a lady, some snake demon thing took her son away, I didn't really trust her that much, at first at least. But over the course of a few days time, I sorta grew to like her. She was an absolutely normal woman, like one that you would see in a town because she isn't ready for the outside world. Not a fighter, stuff like that, and she was the first human that I've met, who wasn't either family or a fighter, that actually didn't mind me being a demon, in fact she sounded quite relieved when I told her I was a demon, because I guess it boosted her thoughts on the success of getting her son back..." Bernael would trail on, still showing little to no emotion. "I was foolish... I fell in love with her over a couple of days because of her personality and how open she was with me, in fact, I spent more time with her than anybody else since I left my home. It was very nice. But, that demon took her too, I tracked her back down to its lair, and fought it, stealing its sword and killing it with it, the blood that came out of it didn't get off the sword... the son was okay and I returned him to his father... but" Bernael would slowly look over to stare Atsuko right in the eyes. "I lost her... to the demon that took her son... and I freaked out because I lost something I cared about, not even a few days after I got it... and it was all my fault, I got attached and she came with me... I could had sent her back home or something and retrieved the son on my own, I could have brought him back and both would be alright, I would never have gotten to know her, but I wouldn't have gotten too attached to get hurt from the loss" Bernael would add on, staring deep into Atsuko's eyes, all emotion he had earlier of the past stories, gone, except for two new ones, sadness that seeped from his eyes to go down his face, and anger, that seeped out with demonic energy from his entire body.
The Albino Saiyan gave a small chuckle. "It does take a lot of getting used to. I've made it a point to use it as much as I can, however. I can feel it's effects on my training. It's honestly rather amazing.", she responded. Finally he said that he could in fact count on her for help. Which brought her a measure of ease, she was worried that he'd try to close himself up and deal with the issues by himself. While she could understand that some things did have to be taken care of alone, it generally just made things more difficult.
Bernael began to open up, with everything that happened. "I'm glad you're diligent with your training! We should train together again sometime, after all one can only make so much progress by themselves.", she added. And then fell silent as she listened to his next words. So he had been to this Forest before? And apparently even found a temple that was filled with Ninja, that must have been quite the encounter! Even though they proved to be easy foes for him to defeat... Bernael didn't strike to kill, that brought a smile to Atsuko's face. She was proud of him.
"You handled that well. Strike and kill only out of necessity, I spoke briefly about using your power responsibly but I didn't have the chance to really explain what that all meant.", she commented. Bernael seemed to be doing exceedingly well! It almost made the Albino Saiyan feel a little silly about worrying about him. He was encountering nice people, he was making friends... However, that wasn't the entirety of the story. His mood had noticeably darkened as he continued onto the final part of everything that had happened in their time apart. Apparently he had an encounter with a Demon...
A real, full blooded Demon. The Saiyan hadn't encountered anything like that. And the sword he now carried was stained in a strange blood, it wasn't a holy weapon. That meant it could be corrupted with a demon's influence. Before she could comment on that, however. He continued with the story. Apparently a mother had lost her son because of this Demon. And she and Bernael had grown close over the course of a few days. Judging by the general tone of his voice and the story thus far... She could only assume it didn't end well.
But she allowed him to continue, for as long as he was comfortable on explaining it all. The woman assumed that since Bernael was part Demon, it proved a greater chance of getting her son back. And... Well, his tone of voice only darkened from then on. It was what she had assumed, the snake demon from the story had taken the mother away as well. He was determined to track it down, and apparently that was exactly what had happened. He followed it back to it's lair and a battle ensued. So that was where he got the new blade.
And that also explained where the blood came from. Finally he looked Atsuko in the eyes as he began to finish his story. The son was still alive and returned safely to his home. But... He felt guilty about what happened, and she couldn't fault him for that. Anyone probably would have, in that same situation. The Knight listened as he began to go on about how he could have done things differently. The Saiyan could only assume that it was going to make him distance himself from others, and that could prove a dangerous game. He'd develop tendencies to not feel...
And it would only get darker from then on. Well, she wasn't going to allow that to happen. Unafraid of the demonic energies that were seeping out from his aura, Atsuko stepped close and brought Bernael into a hug. "It wasn't your fault. You wanted to do the right thing, and you still saved someone's life... She wouldn't want you to be sad.", she said in her attempt to comfort him. But she wasn't going to stop with just so little. "And she wouldn't want you to carry out acts of vengeance. Be happy, have dreams for her sake."
Atsuko continued, easing up on the hug slightly so as to look him in the eyes, though she was still hugging him somewhat. "Carry on her legacy, save and protect everyone you can... You don't have to do it alone, she's still with you. And I'm here with you, too.", the Albino Saiyan added with a faint smile. None of this was very happy, but he needed to know that none of that was his fault. Atsuko had already said she was going to be there for him, and she meant it. For as long as he needed...
"We're going to spend some time together. I've already decided on it, and you won't talk me out of it.", she then stated. True to her word, she was set on staying by his side. And he'd have to truly put up a fight to get her away. And she was going to fight just as hard to stay. The Albino Saiyan hoped that it wouldn't come to that, but she was willing to go that far for Bernael. Someone had to be, and she just so happened to be in the right place for it. It couldn't be mere coincidence.
Of that much, the Knight was certain. Doing this, helping people... Sometimes by fighting, sometimes by just being there. It felt right. This was a calling that she was answering, maybe that was the strange feeling she had gotten after her training earlier. It certainly wasn't a bad way to look at things. So how was she going to do that on a larger scale? Well, she was going to need to think that over. But it had to come later, she was going to focus on the here and now. Bernael needed that most of all.

Bernael would just sit there, seething after he finished his story, he hated bringing it up but he had to, he said he wouldn't leave anything out. But before his anger got too much higher, he was surprised to feel a hug from the person he was with. "W-What..." he would stutter out, not knowing what was going on before realizing that Atsuko was hugging him. His energy levels would slowly drain, and he would stop crying as he would slowly hug her back, very confused. He listened to her words with intent, realize that what she was saying was true, Naomi would probably want him to be happy, she didn't have any sadness or regret in her last words to him, just for him to carry out his mission. She obviously wanted him to continue on with his own life, and not to live in the shadows of hatred, that was one of the very reasons she came to like him in the first place. He slowly relaxed in Atsuko's hold as he was truly calming down to where he was out of any danger with his energy and emotions.
A smile would grow on his face as she looked him in the eyes and told him kind things. He nodded to her "Thank you, so very very much" was all he could make out before he took a small step back away from her. "Hmmm, I don't mind I suppose, it could be nice to spend some more time with you... but its also sort of funny that I can't talk you out of it~ Why is it that you wont accept a no for an answer hmmm?" he would say back in response to her next set of words, lightening his mood up a large bit, and none of it was faked at all. He sort of chuckled to himself, while getting into a palm striking pose, his right palm forward towards her, left palm by his side still pointing forward, with his left foot forward and his right foot towards the back. He looked almost serious about fighting, but then he chuckled once more and continued talking. "If I fought you to get away~ Would you knock me out and spend time together with my unconscious body?~" he would ask, in a near joking manner like he believed there was no way that it would come to that.
Right after, he would drop his pose and look up towards the sky among the forest treetops and the light that was barely poking in. "Hey uh, Atsuko, you said we are going to spend time together, and that there was no way I could talk you out of it and all, but I don't really know what we could do together right now, or here even. Do you have anything specific in mind for us to do?" He would ask quizzically, staring over at her with a pretty slight smile, seeing if she could come up with anything off the top of her head that they could do in the grove, or in the immediate area. "But if you don't have anything that you can think of, I'd be okay with trying to figure out something for us to do." He would then add on, smiling a pretty content smile as he would sorta lean back against the cave entrance, awaiting some sort of answer from the Saiyan woman.
Thankfully, it seemed to work. Bernael's mood was improving, and then he returned the hug. The demonic energies around them began to dissipate. Needless to say, Atsuko felt amazing about it. There was no longer a doubt in her mind that this was what she wanted, helping people brought her purpose. Perhaps even more than fighting and training did... She'd still wield her sword to help people, of course. Finally he thanked her, and she only gave a calm nod. "You're welcome, I'm always happy to help.", she replied. And then he took a step back, proceeding to joke a bit with her.
The Knight couldn't help but smile. "Well, you know. I have to say that in case someone decides they want to be stubborn. I've ran into two people so far that think it's better for them to tackle everything alone! It's honestly a little silly.", she explained, though her mood was improving, just as Bernael's was. He took stance and then asked what she would do if he decided to fight her. The Albino Saiyan thought it over for a moment as she chuckled once more. "You jest, I know. But I actually had to do that at least once."
Atsuko then began to elaborate. "I should introduce you to him sometime, stubborn fool of a man. Somehow he's even more set in his ways than Tau is.", she finished, and then their conversation turned to what they would be doing. And it was a fair question that he raised. What would they be doing together? She honestly didn't get that far, she thought it would be a bit of a fight to get Bernael to realize that he honestly wasn't at fault. With a calm shake of the head to indicate that she didn't know, she continued to think to herself...
"Honestly? I have no idea, I've gotten so used to just having to force people to slow down for a minute. Set up a camp so I can actually talk with them, sometimes nurse them back to health. What would you like to do, Bernael?", she explained and then asked. "I've enough free time that I'm certain we could figure out something we'd like to do. If nothing else, we could just take a walk around the Forest and see what we can discover. It's what I tend to do anyway.", she then said in a now relaxed tone of voice.
"There's still so much of the world that I haven't seen. And it seems like there's only more to discover as I travel. Honestly, it feels like it doesn't end at times... It's pretty exciting, just finding my way around to all the interesting spots, and towns.", she continued her explanation. Though she didn't know if that was really Bernael's thing or not... "I'm not sure what you usually get up to, but if that sounds fair to you, we could try it out. We could find something, or we'll just have a walk for a pleasant conversation. We really win out either way, it seems."

Bernael would chuckle softly at Atsuko's mentioning of a stubborn man, it sort of intrigued him but he wouldn't ask about it, and would wait to be introduced to him at a later point if he was going to be able to. He then just nodded to himself with a slight smile, "Well, I am glad that I am sort of going away from the trend of having to force people to accept, because I don't want to just be a broken record of things past for you, you know?" he would say back to her, slowly thinking to himself more about what they could do since she didn't seem to know. The boy was very intrigued and perked up a bit more when he heard her next words. "I like discovering things! The reason I am getting around all these places is to find my father, I want to meet him and learn more about myself, but I have no clues on where to find him. So I just sort of go exploring and try to discover whats in any place I come by. Its very fun and that's what I've been doing for the entirety of my journey since I left home. Though... that sort of stopped when I came back here, because I wanted peace and quiet to relax, but this is a lot more fun and entertaining already." he would say, staying in a very perky attitude throughout.
The signs of his sadness were completely gone, replaced by only happiness and glee, for the time being anyways as the future is unknown and so much could happen. But for the time being, he did a complete hundred eighty from his old mood. "But I think for now, I'd like to go explore this place some more, but I would like to mainly focus on talking probably, since we might not find anything for awhile, and would have to fit some talk time in there anyways~" he would then say, slowly making sure all of his stuff was with him and clothing correctly placed so that he would be ready to head out and look around some. Before too long, he ensure that it was indeed all there, and then would look back to Atsuko with a big smile. "Thank you a lot for coming and helping me like this, I wanted to be alone for peace and quiet and my own thoughts, but that wasn't helping me too much, turns out all I really needed was a good friend, and a lot of talking~" he would then state sort of enthusiastically and gratefully, making sure that his thank you was very sincere.
The overjoyed demon boy would then start to head out of the grove before looking to her once more and saying "I'm ready" as he would continue to make his way out past the pond and the entrance to the grove, sort of saying goodbye to it as he only was there for a short time, but he understood that it was time to leave for now, so he, without further hesitation would leave the grove unless Atsuko would stay behind for any further talking before heading out, in which case he would stay and listen, not wanting to be rude to his friend.
Atsuko let out a small laugh. "Fair point, it's a nice change of pace for everyone involved, I'm glad I could help you so much.", she replied. Luckily, it seemed like he was excited to go exploring! Well that made the decision of what to do next a very easy one. "Perhaps we can talk a little about your father while we walk!", she added. Waiting patiently as Bernael then began to make sure he had everything he needed. That was a good decision, Atsuko briefly did the same. Though she hadn't needed to set anything up this time around.
So instead, she settled for making sure that her sword was still secured in it's sheath, as well as adjusting the cape slightly. Finally they were both ready, Bernael took the lead and ventured around the pond and over to the grove's entrance. Atsuko did the same, giving a nod to his assessment. The Albino Saiyan stepped outside of the grove, the forest was already looking a little less dreary than it once did. Perhaps there was something to her theory. Bernael came dangerously close to a dark place. It brought her great relief that she arrived in time before he was lost to that.
"You're welcome, by the way. I'm glad that I could help you. It may sound a little weird, but... I like doing that, helping people. It feels like something I'm meant to do, it's not really just... You know how enjoyable a hobby is? How it makes you want to do more?", the Knight began her comparison. "Well, it feels like it's more than just something I like. It's... Almost like I can feel something greater than myself, urging me on to do more. I already set out to do just that, but... I'm becoming more convinced that I must do it."
She found it a little difficult to describe. "I don't know... Does that make sense? It doesn't entirely to me, either.", she added. The Albino Saiyan stuck to a calm walking pace at the moment, there was no rush for them to do anything. Honestly, she was enjoying the conversation more than the exploration, too. Though one did get the sense that she was still quite aware of her own surroundings. She always seemed prepared to jump into a battle. It was the way she carried herself, even a casual stance just seemed... Ready.
"But, what about your father? I've heard a lot about how you're looking for him, but I hardly know any details about him. Of course, I don't mean to pry. I just have to admit that the curiosity is getting to me.", Atsuko spoke truthfully. There were so many things that she still didn't know about Bernael despite the fact that they were getting along well. Perhaps it was time for that to change, after all she was opening up, and he shared some of his story earlier... It seemed like the perfect time for the two to just get to know each other better.
Atsuko was prepared to share what her own childhood was like, though she assumed that most people would find it boring. It was just a lot of studying and training... Never really without end. It was pretty much what she did now, only she had the added bonus of being able to meet new people and go to exciting new locations. Perhaps she was just being silly about it, but either way... She awaited Bernael's response. What would he have to say on the subject? Well, it's not like she'd have to wrack her mind with that for long...

For the first time in a short bit, the boy was very energetic and excited for good reason, and he was very happy to hear more about his friend's feelings. "Well, I can't say entirely for myself if it makes total sense, like..." the boy would say to himself while looking up in the air looking for his own words, "like, I understand the entire feeling good to help people thing, its why I helped search for that boy so easily, it just feels so good, like your working to benefit others instead of just yourself, which goes a long way in a world like this, but as for feeling something greater than yourself urging you on to do so? I can't say for sure if it makes sense to me yet." he would continue on, finally finding the bit of words that he wanted to use.
However, he would instantly study Atsuko again, taking notice of how alert her movements were, he realized that it was a walk through a forest where something could jump out and get ready to attack, so it was very good to keep an alert mindset. Once he realized this, he snapped himself into alert mode, but continued to listen and allow himself to enjoy the walking and talking. Before he knew it, Atsuko asked him something pretty personal, he wasn't quite sure if he had the right things to talk about it, as there wasn't much TO talk about his father, he thought on it for a very short time before finally talking.
"Well, the reason I talk about looking for my father a lot, but never end up describing his details is because, well, I've never met him ever. I don't even know if he knows I exist, or if he ever knew me from a baby stand point. I know it sounds silly to be looking for someone I know nothing about, and who possibly knows nothing about me, as I could meet him and not even know it, but... I just really want to go looking for him." He looked down momentarily, trying to think of what more to say "Plus, my father is the demon of my bloodline, and his bloodline took over, I can tell I am more demon than I am human, because of that... I know nothing about myself, all this energy seeping out of me, all these expenditures of power, I have no idea what they are or what makes them a part of me, and I really want to find it out. Sadly, my journey is getting weary, when I was last here in Fukurou Forest, I actually got trapped in a barrier and fell asleep in it without knowing it. I awoke in a very strange dream that left me off where I was asleep, and my dream state gave him a look AND a name, which is pretty silly in its own right, I am getting so tired of the lack of clues that my mind just filled in blanks for me~ Though the dream was very weird, and showed stuff to me that I didn't even know existed, so it might have been some weird future dream, who knows..." he would finally end off with, feeling satisfied with the review he gave.
"But yeah, my childhood didn't really have my father in it, aside from stories and thoughts of him, but never in person. But that stuff is more for if you're interested. Anyways, now that I talked your ear off, how about we swap sides again. What was your life like? Like as far back as you remember into your own childhood and such, I would like you to start from there and then go for a bit, then we can swap back to me~" Bernael would say, getting excited at the possibility of hearing his friends backstory a bit more.
Atsuko listened intently to him, he did feel the same type of satisfaction in helping others. But either he didn't feel that sense of something greater, or perhaps he didn't recognize it... In either case, it was something that the Albino Saiyan desperately wanted to know more about. But it's not as if she had a means of studying it, all she could do was stay the course and hope that all of the answers would line up soon enough. It wasn't a bad way to look at things, she could make a lot of friends. See a lot of new places...
Finally, Bernael began to speak about his father. Or, at least what little he knew about him. So they had never even met... Or maybe they did, but he didn't stick around. Honestly, that was pretty sad to hear. But the fact that most plainly stood out to her was the fact that he was the source of the Demonic blood. She began to wonder why it was that he left, did he not care about his family? Or... Was he able to feel that something was taking over, and left in order to protect them? She had only just heard this...
But Bernael had been dealing with this for so much longer, she couldn't begin to imagine just how many times he's gone over everything in his own head, all in a search to be reunited with him. Atsuko hoped that if that day ever came, it would be a good one. She honestly didn't know what to expect... But rather than be depressed about it, the Knight made the decision to simply be there for her friend. It was a simple but effective way of thinking. Like that it had stopped bothering her. Of course, he then asked about her own childhood.
"Well, I'm assuming you'll want to hear the more interesting part about my childhood. I wasn't born from a couple in the Temple, or something like that... What they told me is that they witnessed a shooting star crash onto their mountain. When they went to investigate, they found some sort of pod in a crater... I've seen it myself, it's... Weird.", Atsuko began to explain. Though it sounded just as unreal to her, and she was actually in the story! "So they took me into their Order. I didn't have a name, or any sort of identification."
She continued on. "So they gave me one. I had a violent temper when I was younger, but they were patient with me. And they taught me to hold that same patience. About as soon as I could walk, I started training.", she added. Though it seemed there was still more to tell. "That probably sounds weird, but... I've been studying and training for as long as I can remember. I already have a lifetime under my belt. They said that they do all of this to be prepared for when the Age of Demons begins again."
She then glanced over to Bernael. "I used to believe it just meant any Demon. But, I think there's more to it now. But there were years of that, just a constant study, training, and meditation... Until finally I turn eighteen, they hold this ceremony and name me a Holy Knight, give me a sword...", she taps the hilt of the blade sheathed next to her. "And just like that, I'm sent out onto a pilgrimage. The title I've been given hasn't been used in ages. They had no need of it, but I'm a bit of a special exception, given how I arrived..."
Would Bernael think it just as strange? And she hoped that her Order's views wouldn't offend him... "After that, you're all caught up to my story. One of the first places I went into was that Bamboo Forest, where we all met.", she finished her explanation. Hoping that it would prove satisfactory for him. Atsuko was smiling once again, Bernael was the first one to actually ask her about her past. It was sort of nice to just... Let it all out, everyone else is usually more content to speak about themselves, not that she really minded.

With a smile on his face, Bernael resolved to try his best not to say a word during Atsuko's telling of her childhood, he would of course react to it accordingly, but he didn't want to say anything, just use body language to show his thoughts. He nodded along to himself, hearing her explain her entrance to the world and the order she was apart of, it seemed that she didn't know of what came before that, but that was quite fine. He slowly realized that the thing she described was, something he was familiar with, but he would tell her more about that after her story was finished. Once the next part came, Bernael was sort of surprised, he tried his best to imagine a baby Atsuko with a violent streak, but he never knew her aside from what he saw her as right now, and the one time before. This caused, some problems with his imaging, as all he could picture was a stereotype baby with an adult Atsuko's head, it was sort of creepy how his mind worked towards that, but he decided not to laugh, aside from a very very low chuckle that could only slightly be heard.
He continued listening contently, and learned quickly how experienced she truly was, he was sort of happy to know he was friends with somebody so experienced, it could be something good if he was in a bind and needed someone he could depend on. But then he heard how the order worked, or per say, why they did all that training and studying. The Age of Demons beginning again? He guess it was alright, apparently a lot of people didn't care too much for demons, so it didn't surprise him that there was stuff out there like that. He was just really glad that he made friends with one instead of making enemies, but he just sincerely hoped that a day wouldn't come when he was forced to fight her due to her views and his lineage. He didn't mind that much though, he believed that their friendship could grow stronger than the views or lineage of their respective families. It was pretty much Romeo and Juliet without the warring factions and romantic sections, but that didn't really matter much. Bernael was very, very happy to hear her next words though, and the look that she gave him made him feel that it was even more truth. At the very least, he knew that as a demon, he was an exception to the her original thoughts of what demons it was leaning towards with the training, and he hoped that there could be more demons for that exception eventually. The demon boy would just nod to himself more as she continued her story, looking at her sword as she mentioned it and then back at her right after.
It was nice, being able to learn so much about someones past, he rarely got the chance to talk like this with someone else and it was extremely nice to him. But then he realized that the story had come to an end. "Thank you for sharing, it was very nice to hear a story from a good friend." He would say once it was over, and giving a tiny bit more time just to make sure that she was truly done. It was then that he finally decided to speak up about what he thought about earlier. "So you know that whole... shooting star pod thingy... I am pretty sure I encountered one of those earlier, one of those two boys I was talking about, came down in one of those." he said, rethinking over the facts he knew for sure. "The pod contained a very violent blue man though, it was all for good reason though, I think he was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder or something. As he was very violent but it was obvious that he was thinking of things from the past. He looked pretty human though, all things considered, so it might be a story just like you, a human from space in a shooting star pod, though he looked matured and had history... so I don't really know what that's all about." he would conclude, holding his chin very slightly as he looked at the ground, not being able to remember much more of the events from that day. "Anyways... I'd be alright with telling you some more about me if you wanted to know more, though I understand if you want to talk more about the whole... pod thing." was all he'd end off with, slowly staring over at Atsuko as he waited for a response of some kind.
The Albino Saiyan smiled, giving a nod to Bernael as he thanked her for the story. "I'm glad that you enjoyed it.", she gave her response, and then listened to what he had to say next. Apparently he had something to say about the 'shooting star pod', as they had taken to calling it. She listened attentively, as this was the first time that someone actually knew what she was talking about... Well, it wasn't like she went around asking people about it, or telling them of it. But that was beside the point. So there was someone else that arrived here in the same fashion?
A lake of some sort, and a blue man... And very violent, all of that seemed to line right up with her own story, minus the fact that he was fully grown and... Well, the part about being blue. So he looked Human as well? It was so weird... What was her own past really like? She only knew about her Order, everything before that just... Nothing, she couldn't remember anything, maybe it was because she was too young back then. Maybe there was another reason. She wracked her mind to no avail, prompting her to give out a small sigh.
Oh well, there was no use dwelling on it. Bernael then proceeded to ask if she'd like to know more about his own story, and she smiled. "Certainly! You have my full attention.", she replied, then wondering what his story would be about. There was still a fair amount of the puzzle still missing. What was his Mother like? She did hope that it would be good memories, and considering how he was still in a good mood, there was a fairly good chance of that. She continued the walk through the woods as she listened.
Slowly, it was starting to clear up. It wasn't quite as dark now. Apparently they were heading further away from the center of the Forest, but that was alright. Perhaps they could find a nice spot to make a camp at? The Knight made a mental note to keep an eye out for one. Her plate was starting to get a little full, trying to keep an eye on their surroundings, as well as listen to Bernael's story. But at least everything she sensed thus far was of no threat to either of them. She was fairly certain by now that they were wild animals.
Or perhaps, the Ninja Clan that Bernael spoke of before? Though it seemed like awfully tiny powers for them... He did say they went down in one strike each... Whatever the case was, her thoughts had sort of run off track. Thankfully she hadn't ended up ignoring Bernael in the process, the Knight considered it an important discussion, after all! It wouldn't do to give the go ahead on continuing the story and end up missing the entire thing because she let herself get preoccupied with other things. Of course, what they always say...

Once more, the demon boy started to think about his past, as much as he could take from it at the very least. He was glad to have somebody so close to talk about all this stuff to, especially knowing that he has their full attention was a huge plus. "Well, I guess I should start with my early life... the earliest I can remember was a bit before I started my schooling, for some reason my mother thought it was a good idea to tell everyone ever, expressly stated everywhere, that I was part demon, it was almost as if she took pride in having a half demon son, though I guess she couldn't have done the backlash it would cause for my life." he would say, with a sigh, not even close to done.
"My mother was a very nice, petite woman. She didn't do very much, mostly staying at home preparing food, doing housework, and then she'd often go out with her friends when I was away. But she always tried to make sure to be there for me when I was there. She was very... worried about her previous decision that I talked about, I didn't hold a grudge against her or anything, she was taking it pretty hard herself and I would feel terrible for disliking her for it. As for her facial features, my hair and eyes are all hers, red, except I grew a lot taller than her genetics, and my features look nothing like her so I guess I got the rest from dad, or something..." he said to himself, trying to get as much information out to Atsuko about his past without skipping details to make it vague.
"Next would be, my school days, where there's not much going on... I tried making friends with anybody and everybody, but the entire thing that came to bite me was that my mom didn't pull any stops about me being a demon. Pretty much anybody who existed in my school knew about it on day one, and if they didn't, they were told it within the first two days... people were pretty ignorant about species in my town... apparently... not a single one of them cared if I was a nice demon, I had the blood in me and that made me the devil of the school, that everyone avoided at the time." he would continue on, thinking back to his past the best he could. "I pretty much dealt with it, in my mind at least, I tried to pay little attention to everyone disliking me and ignoring me that I just got in training time at home to release my anger. But before long, I went all the way into high school, where everything got just a little bit worse. Everyone there was afraid of me there, and if they weren't afraid, they hated me... they hated me so much that pretty much anyone who was a bully, targeted me and put a hit out on me, it was like a game to them, destroy the demon boy for being a demon." Bernael would then add on, he didn't look sad or anything, he just said it casually as he continued on.
"Hmmm, but I dealt with that pretty quickly, and trained just enough to get them to realize I was stronger, and to leave me alone. But you know how gossip works I suppose, it spread like wild fire that I was a demon who just hurt other kids in the school for the fun of it, and thus everything got worse, everyone was terrified of being killed, just because I was in a classroom with them. Then I quit altogether, and focused every day on training. I learned about my demonic energy when I was fighting against those kids, and the power intrigued me as to why I got it. That was when I fully resolved to find my father, and to ask him about demons, and about me... but I stayed home from about the age sixteen to nineteen, training at home until I felt ready to head out into the world. It has been such a short time since I left home, and I've grown so very much since then though, so my home training was mostly just holding me back to be honest. But yeah, I left home, and shortly after I arrived at that bamboo forest too, and I told you the rest of my story till now back at the grove." Bernael would finally say, trying to wrap everything up as nicely as he could. He was content with what he said, and didn't want to take it too much further unless it was asked of him to take something into detail. "Well, that's all I have to say about that Atsuko... if you have any more questions for me, go ahead and ask them... buuuut, before that happens, I want to ask, how does our relationship stand, between you and I? I guess the more direct question is what do you think about me..." he would ask himself, staring over at Atsuko with a smile on his face awaiting some kind of answer from her.
So it was that Bernael went into all of the details of his childhood. He had stayed silent when she went into her own backstory, so it was time to return the favor. For one reason or another, his mother had decided to make the fact that he was Demon known. She... Found that a little concerning, for various reasons. People couldn't have reacted very well to that, but she made no comment on it. Likely he wouldn't appreciate any criticisms of her, and she had none to give, truthfully. It just seemed a little misguided. A point Bernael perhaps agreed on.
All the same, she was apparently a very nice woman. Atsuko had the brief thought that she wouldn't mind meeting her someday, but she didn't muse on that too long, as he still had quite a lot to tell. Though an interesting point did come up, hair color and eye color came from his mother, but everything else was likely to be from the father... It really wasn't much to go on, but it was better than nothing at all. Though as he himself had pointed out, he wasn't sure if that was the case or not. It was all speculation.
Regardless, his mother seemed to regret the decision, which only made sense. And what Atsuko heard next was that they were on good terms. Well, at least that meant he had a home to return to. Perhaps she could accompany him there, after all! Though... It wasn't all a good story, he had faced a lot of bullying because of his heritage. The Albino Saiyan's smile had faded a little as she listened, it was so rough on him and he was still trying to make the best of things... It made her respect him even more.
Bernael had apparently discovered his demonic powers early on, but didn't use them to hurt anyone, just to get them to leave him alone. She found that fair, she probably would have done the same thing in his shoes. Other than that, there wasn't much more to his story, he wrapped it up nicely, and she already heard the rest of it back at the grove. So now it was time to turn to a new topic of discussion. And it seemed like he already had one in mind, Bernael asked what Atsuko thought of him, where their relationship stood. She didn't have to think very long on it...
"I think that you're my friend. And nothing will change that.", she answered honestly, and rather bluntly. "And, I think it would be nice to visit your home sometime! If you wouldn't mind bringing me there, of course!", she added as she smiled at Bernael. The Albino Saiyan had no doubt in her mind that whatever her Order was referring to... It wasn't what he turned out to be. It wasn't just a simple heritage from a dark bloodline, he was no grand source of all evil. He was just another person, like she was.
She couldn't bring herself to hate him, and neither did she want to. "I know the views that my Order holds... They might even disagree with my assessment. But you've done nothing wrong, in fact you've done as I would many times over. Rather than fight against you, I would fight at your side. I suppose you feel the same way towards me?", she inquired. Though Atsuko already had a pretty good feeling that was exactly the case. He was such a friendly person, it was hard to imagine him making enemies out of anyone... Even those bullies.
He didn't want to hurt them, he was just defending himself... The only time he had actually lost it was against that Demon. That would be a breaking point for anyone. But he came back from that, when anyone else could have easily given into those dark feelings. Part Demon or not! She really did feel a sense of obligation to look after him... The more she heard of his story, she just wanted to keep that sort of thing from happening to him ever again. It was a naive desire, even by her own standards, but... Hey, it's good to have dreams.
