This year had been long and uneventful for Hisashi. She slacked off from her training seeing no reason to grow stronger as she was already sufficiently strong enough to kill bandits and other unsavory individuals and it didn't seem like something crazy powerful was gonna go around knocking trees down in the eastern islands anytime soon. So she figured she was long overdue for a nice little vacation to visit a part of the planet she had always been interested in but had only visited once: the Cold North. There was a small town here or there but she had yet to find a bigger city, but she wasn't too sure if she were complaining about that or not as she had never been a big fan of larger cities bustling with activity to begin with. They were constantly expanding, taking up more and more space and ruining the world's natural beauty. The very thought irritated her to no end.. But this was supposed to be a vacation. One where she relaxed and quit worrying about these sorts of things.
Coming this far north into the freezing cold called for a change of attire from what she normally wore in the warmer weather the eastern islands was coming for. Sandals, a long skirt, and generally thin clothing were no where near appropriate for such low temperatures. She kept the usual tokin hat as it didn't really have an effect on how warm or cold she was but she exchanged her skirt for baggy purple pants and her sandals for boots that made it easier to move through the snow. She still wore a white shirt but this one had detached sleeves that hugged her arm, were less free to move in the wind, and began at her shoulder rather than above her elbow. Underneath this slightly more appropriate white shirt she wore a black undershirt with another shirt underneath that hidden from sight. It was black just as the undershirt that was acting as an insulating layer trapping warm air in and keeping moisture out so it would be quite hard to notice if at all unless Hisashi moved the red scarf from around her neck. The third and most outer layer of her clothing that included the white shirt with detached sleevees also included a purple cloak that was capable of wrapping around her front. These two things protected her from the elements and so she was more than warm enough to roam around the Cold North during the day without worrying about freezing.
Night was a whole other situation if she couldn't start up a fire. Though it would be unlikely that she would lose track of time and be unable to start one before the night cold really set in and put her in a mess of trouble. She had learned from her last visit there as she had nearly frozen to death. In some stroke of luck she had been saved by a.. 'playful' brenchian. Hisashi would pause and think whenever she thought about that girl, feeling a little bit regretful over never having thanked her properly. She stopped in the middle of her trek through the snow on her way to a smaller village she could spot off in the distance thanks to handy-dandy ole' far-seeing arts. The wolf girl readjusted her scarf and looked around, taking her eyes off the village in the distance for a moment to see the seemingly never-ending expanse of snow and trees around her. Of course there were things such as mountains and other little natural landmarks she could spot through the trees if she looked hard enough but that didn't take away from the impressive amount of snow she was seeing in every direction.
The eastern islands certainly got some snow during the winter season but never like what she was seeing now. It made her oddly joyful and calm. Almost like whenever she would hold her orb and look at it for long enough. Sadly there was no time to go staring at shiny objects as Hisashi intended to reach the outskirts of the distant village she had been headed towards before nightfall came. She would need to have a fire going when the sun would start to set. There wasn't a huge rush as there was still plenty of daytime left but she wasn't willing to take the chance like she had last time she visited the area. Readjusting her scarf once more she covered up her mouth and nose and continued onward.

Cryonia was going for a leisurely stroll through the white forest. As much as she loved staying in her lab and conducting research, it was good to take a break from her work everyone once and awhile and get some fresh air. Cryonia took a deep breath, breathing in the cold winter air. With the snow gently from the sky and the low temperatures, the weather was very pleasant and ideal for going outside. Well, it was pleasant for her anyway. Most other species would find this weather to be unpleasant at best. Thanks to her abilities, Cryonia wasn't bothered at all by this type of cold. So much so that she didn't even need to wear extra warm clothing. While her attire covered almost all of her body, it wasn't exactly designed to insulate the wearer and keep them warm.
The other really nice thing about walking around in the North was the fact that she didn't have to worry about being disturbed by other people. True, there were villages and towns scattered throughout the region, and the people sometimes left there to get supplies. Although they were small communities, and the region was rather low in population due to the harsh climate. So the odds of actually running into someone outside of the towns were considerably low.
Cryonia strode through the forest, her arms hanging by her sides as she took in the scenery around her. The sight of the trees covered in snow was truly a beauty to behold. The cold weather and the whit snow around her served to relax Cryonia. She didn't have to worry about keeping appearances here either. It was tiring going through the effort of making her body posture and her overall demeanor to a high standard. Since there was no one around, she didn't have to worry about those things. At least, she didn't have to worry about it until she encountered Hisashi.
Cryonia was so lost in her thoughts and the serene environment that she didn't even sense that there was someone else there until they were in eyesight of one another. Once she did notice her, one thing stood out for her. This person was part Elemi. A pure Elemi didn't have ears or a long, bushy tail. It was likely this Elemi was born and raised on Earth. She certainly was prepared for the weather, as she had very heavy clothing that covered the majority of her body. Cryonia decided to start a conversation with this individual. Running into a fellow Elemi was almost always a pleasant experience for her. Cryonia brushed the snow off of her outfit, and walked over to the person wondering through the woods.
"You aren't that far from the nearest village. You seem to be going in that direction. Since you aren't flying there, I presume you're enjoying the scenery as much as I am. This place is nice and mostly untouched by the inhabitants of this planet. It's part of why I love the cold so much: only the most hardy and resourceful dare to live here."

Hisashi stopped when she felt something like a cold nip attack the center of her back. It couldn't have been any nasty cold breeze, since this feeling was at a specific point and she was intentionally keeping the wind calm via her abilities. Things like this always happened whenever an Elemi was nearby. For example, with water Elemi she would feel a sudden unnatural calm and she may just hear running water despite there being no real source to the noise. With Cryonia, she felt a cold nip that was shortly followed by a chill down her spine making her shudder and her tail flick outwards and then curl up against her backside for a brief second. Once the unpleasant sensation wore off she took a look around and spotted the probable source of the cold chill walking casually towards her.
When the stranger finished speaking she blinked twice, trying to better process the situation. It was usually her that came wandering out of the bushes trying to strike up conversation with strangers but now that she was on the receiving end of it she understands how confusing it is. She wasn't going to react out of irritation like a certain old geezer she knew as she was genuinely curious about the girl talking to her. Hisashi noticed she lacked the proper clothing to be walking around in these temperatures and also her hair and eye color. From what she had experienced before, full Elemi usually had features that would hint towards what their element was. Fiery hair, eyes that when looked into would be a lot like looking into a deep lake, and other things like that. With her curiosity peaked Hisashi's tail started to sway from side to side. It was always exciting meeting new people and especially so when they were Elemi.
Realizing Hisashi had gotten distracted by trying to figure Cryonia's element out despite the painfully clear signs her ears twitched and she looked the Elemi in the face before speaking. "Er.. flying?" The wolf girl's face reddened as she thought back to her first time climbing the lookout despite her crippling fear of heights. Shaking her head the red faded and she continued speaking. "Ah.. Yeah. Enjoying the scenery is what I'm doing." She nodded her head, only partially lying about why she chose to remain on the ground. "I don't get a lot of snow where I live outside of the winter season, so I thought I would come up north to get a good feel for how it can be living in constantly cold temperatures."
The air Elemi's ears twitched as the question at the back of her mind was just far too tempting to ask and the potential yes excited her enough to make her tail wag just a bit faster. Nothing crazy yet, she wasn't fixing to take off like a doggo-copter. "Are you an Elemi too?" Hisashi would suddenly ask, coming off of the topic of what she was doing.. Partially to avoid any questions about the lack of honesty in her response to why she wasn't flying but still mostly because she really wanted to know if she had finally met another Elemi after a year of boring regular bandits.

Now that Cryonia was closer to the individual, she could more clearly see the more animal-like aspects of her body. The tails was very apparent even at a distance, although the white ears sticking out from her head was something she had missed about her at first. Cryonia could sense that she was at least part of an Elemi, and going by her appearance, she was likely part Zoanthrope as well. Although she wasn't sure what animal characteristics she was displaying. Cryonia hadn't been here long enough to know every life form on this planet. And there were Zoanthropes who looked similar to one another while being completely different in terms of what race they were related to.
The tail was the most striking feature of this individual was her long, bushy snow-white tail. Which she noted had started swaying around. You could sometimes tell the mood of someone belonging to a particular species by watching how certain body parts move. It was particularly hard for beings with tails to hide what they were feeling, since it often betrayed their mood. Speaking of mood, the girl's face flushed the moment she brought up flying. Why would she be embarrassed about the subject of flying? Filing that thought away for later, she turned her palm face-up and formed an ice crystal in her hand, showing the other Elemi what she was capable of. The white half of her hair and her light blue eyes were a fairly good indication of what element she weilded, even if she hadn't displayed her abilities to Hisashi
"I'm afraid that I won't be able to give you the most accurate representation of what it's like to live in a cold climate such as this. As an Elemi who can manipulate ice, this kind of weather doesn't bother me in the slightest. I only wear winter clothing when I have to keep up appearances. It would look strange to most humans if they saw me walking around in this attire."
Cryonia dropped the ice crystal on the ground, then extended her arm and offered Hisashi a handshake. Even in the middle of a frozen forest with no one else around, Cryonia wasn't going to neglect the formalities of socializing with others.
"I'm Cryonia, a representative of the Homeworld Restoration Effort. Judging by your appearance, you were born on this planet. Forgive me for asking, but what kind of Zonathrope are you? I can tell you're partially Elemi, although my knowledge on the various species of this planet still has gaps in it."

Hisashi watched the ice crystal form in amazement. Her eyes wide with surprise while she reached out and poked it with the tip of her pointer finger like a little kid tapping on the glass of the shark exhibit of an aquarium. Except hopefully there wasn't going to be any great whites leaping out of that ice crystal.. As awesome as that would be. Not so awesome on Hisashi of course. When the ice crystal was dropped to the ground she crouched down and picked it up, quickly standing back up with the crystal in her hands like this was some kind of 'five second rule' situation. "It's so pretty.." She mumbled gently, moving the crystal between her two hands to keep it from being too cold for her. Her obsession with the cold but shiny object had made her forget she hadn't responded to any of what Cryonia was saying. One of her ears twitching she looked up at Cryonia.
"Homeworld Restoration Effort?" Her ears twitched again, though this time it was more out of curiosity and less out of 'Oh no my inner dog is showing.' When asked what sort of Zoanthrope she was she took a minute to process what was actually being asked. For once though, she quickly realized Cryonia was referring to what type of animal her ears and tail came from. "Umm.. Wolf I'm pretty sure but I get mistaken for a kitsune a lot because of my tail." The wolf girl then nodded. "Yep I was born on this planet." Her excitement wasn't too clear in her voice but from how her tail had noticeably picked up the speed after she got her hands on the ice crystal she was really enjoying the encounter even if she was being a little slow to answer some of the questions.
Realizing she had completely let the hand extended out to her for a handshake had flown completely over her head.. metaphorically, of course, one of her ears twitched and she switched the crystal into her other hand and reached for Cryonia's hand. "My mother was an air elemi and my father is a Zoanthrope. I'm pretty much just a mix of the two.. Just way way shorter than either of them." Hisashi never paid much mind to her own height, as she saw it more as an advantage. For one it made her cuter to people with certain tastes, and for two it made her a smaller target. But she did feel like pointing it out because oh boy was her father a giant in terms of height. "What is the 'Homeworld'? If you don't mind me asking."
Cryonia managed to keep her calm, stoic expression on her face, despite the behavior Hisashi was displaying. She was acting like a talking young animal. Which wasn't all that surprising considering that she was half wolf. Still, it was mildly amusing to watch her behavior. From how entranced she was by her ice crystal, to how quickly her tail was now wagging. She was clearly excited at the moment. It almost distracted Cryonia from the conversation at hand. Although she was a very professional woman, so she didn't lose focus on something she had set her sights on.
"You're a wolf then? Yes, some Earthlings with animal blood in them are hard to tell apart by species sometimes. Those with Wolf and Fox blood do look very similar. It gets even more confusing when you consider that a Fox Zoanthrope and a Kitsune are not the same thing. Despite appearing the same, they actual have many differences that set them apart from one another. Although most foxes don't have a silver fur color. . So you having the blood of the wolf makes sense."
Cryonia was further bemused by the continued behavior of the half Elemi girl. She was so enamored by the ice crystal that the Elemi had created that she forgot that she was supposed to shake Cryonia's hand. So for a full minute she was left there with her arm extended. Which under circumstances Cryonia would have considered rather insulting. However going by how the girl talked and what she had said earlier, she likely grew up in an isolated environment. While she was still shaking her hand, she thought about all the information she had learned so far.
She's the daughter of an air Elemi then? Well that doesn't necessarily mean she inherited the same ability. I'd be very surprised if she did. Since our abilities aren't usually effected by genetics directly like that. I'll find out for sure soon enough. There's something much more important to address right now.
Cryonia withdrew her arm after the handshake, handing it down at her side and placing her hand on her hip. Honestly she was surprised that the girl's mother didn't go over what the Homeworld Restoration Effort was with her. Either she didn't grow up knowing her mother very well, or the entire family line had forgotten the past of their race. Both of those were rather depressing thoughts, but Cryonia was going to take the opportunity to educate the young half-Elemi.
"I suppose that an Elemi who grew up another planet wouldn't know. It's a tale stretches back to Eons ago. A long time ago we had Our own planet. We shared it with many other lifeforms, including another intelligent species. We were forced to leave our home-planet though and depart from the galaxy. It became unable to support life of any kind. The reason for why this happened has been lost to time. Even studying the planet itself hasn't given us a clear answer."
Cryonia let a small sigh, closing her eyes and placing both hands at her waist, shaking her head in dejection. As one of the most prominent Elemi scientists, being unable to solve this particular mystery was rather frustrating for her. No matter what she would fix the planet though. She wasn't going to let frustrations and obstacles like that get in her way.
"A little less then a century ago, we came back into this galaxy. Our leader Zenon proposed a very bold plan. An ideal for us all to uphold. The Homeworld Restoration Effort. We would make our planet habitable again, no matter how long it would take. We constructed the space station HOME, which circles around our home planet, Matteria. Many of our kind our dedicated to restoring our homeworld and preserving our culture no matter what. Although some Elemi decided not to be a part of the Restoration Effort and decided to assimilate into other cultures and live on other worlds. Whether it's because they disagreed with how we had to run things or they just wanted to live their lives on a planet they could come home, some Elemi split off from our culture. The Elemi you are descended from wanted to live their lives here, rather then with their kin."
There was a twinge of bitterness to Cryonia's voice when she talked about the Elemi that went to form their own lives. She seemed angry at the Elemi who had chosen to form their own life away from the Homeworld Restoration Effort. Although there was no trace of this anger in her eyes when she opened them. She reached up, casually running her hand through her hair and brushing out the snow that was falling on it.
"I've spent my entire life doing research for the sake of the Homeworld Restoration Effort, and I will not rest until our planet becomes as habitable as this one. It's the main reason as to why I've come to Earth. I'm here on other business too, but that is my main goal by coming here. I study planets and everything about them. Gathering as much data as I can will help us in the long run. So, what do you do for a living? I don't think you've told me your name yet."
Cryonia didn't expect for the half-Elemi to understand too much of the specifics behind her scientific research. But she was sure she would understand the dedication she had for the noble cause she had dedicated her life to. Maybe it would pique her curiosity more, and she would want to find out even more about one of the races that she was descended from.

Hearing Cryonia's story about the Elemi home planet was like listening to something out of a fictional storybook. Except with all things considered, especially how frustrated Cryonia looked when talking about it, it most likely wasn't some tall tale she had come up with. "I never thought my mother would have come from a different planet.. My father always told me she was so passionate about preserving the natural beauty of this one." Thinking about her mother too much always made Hisashi's chest hurt. Her ears flattened back against her head and her tail ceased it's almost rapid movements. In any other situation she would convince herself that she cared nothing for her mother since she never knew her, but right now she couldn't help by wonder about the woman that had died giving birth to her. Hisashi had only ever heard good things about her from her father, but her father had seemingly intentionally avoided the subject of her side of the family and elemi things in general. It was him that taught her to control her temper so that she may better control her own powers, but aside from the basic gist and name of the species, Hisashi knew nothing about her own people.
Learning all this information from Cryonia now when it sounded like it was widely available made Hisashi realize just how little she knew and it honestly hurt. "For all I knew my mother's side of the family was just special. I thought Elemi had always been on this planet.." Hisashi's tone audibly dropped along with her mood. "My father never let me get into contact with my mother's side of the family.. I've never been allowed to go near the cities and I was convinced I should hate them. I feel like there wasn't even a real reason to hate them. I can't help but think it was all just to keep me from learning these things." She tightened her hands into fists and furrowed her brow as she went from feeling sad to feeling outraged and to some degree, betrayed. While her temper got the best of her the wind seemed to pick up, carrying a cold wind that made the wolf girl shiver and realize what was going to happen if she didn't calm down. She took a deep breath and let it out as a sigh, relaxing her hands by her sides before she spoke again. "I'm sorry about that it's just.. I'm a bit sheltered. It's a little overwhelming to learn that my family wasn't even originally from this planet. I always knew I was timid and clueless but I didn't think it was to this extent." Just as the winds picked up when her temper did, they would die down as she got calmer and calmer.
Being asked about her occupation helped in taking her mind off her irritation. Usually it would be something she would like to talk about, but right now she wasn't super sure. Regardless it still made a decent distraction. "My name is Hisashi Ikuto, my mother's name was Yumi Ikuto encase it sounds familiar. I protect the natural beauty back over in the Eastern Islands like my mother used to.. Or at least that's what I'm told. I'm not so sure what she actually did. I don't even know if I'll be going back after learning so much." Nervously the wolf girl would rub her hands together, toying with the ice crystal with her palms and fingers while she got lost in thought. The information she had gotten clearly weighed heavily on her mind, but part of her ached to learn more even if it did end up piss her the hell off.

Even if her body language hadn't given away how the Elemi hybrid felt about not knowing her heritage, than the cold wind that picked up around them certainly was. Cryonia's hair was tossed around due to the gust that was now picking up. She paid it no mind though, as her focus was the young woman in front of her. This person was a very interesting individual. She mentioned that her mother was a air Elemi. That woman must have had very influential genes. Most Elemi can't manipulate the same elements that their parents could. It usually is different for each Elemi, and our abilities aren't as heavily influenced by genetics compared to the traits of other species. Yet it seems like she is able to manipulate wind like her mother. Is it the exact same type of wind manipulation, or is there a slight difference between them? It seems like I'll never know for sure, considering the circumstances.
The wind died down as the Elemi hybrid managed to calm herself. Cryonia was glad that she was able to control her emotions this well: while she certainly had a ways to go, it was preferable to an Elemi who couldn't control their emotions or their powers at all. Raw power alone wasn't something that Cryonia found all that valuable or unique. This person could be reasoned with, even if they were going through emotional turmoil.
Once Hisashi had introduced herself and finished talking, Cryonia tapped her index finger against her chin, processing the information that she had just received. Hisashi was now torn between her life here on Earth, and the culture that he mother had been a part of. This was an opportunity to acquire more help for the cause she and so many others had dedicated their lives to solving. More importantly though, a member of her race was in distress over what she had just heard. Cryonia was going to do all that she could in order to help her.
"Hisashi, there's no reason for you to apologize to me. Finding out that part of their heritage originated from someone not of the planet they were born on would be shocking for anyone. For what it's worth, your father was trying to protect you. Regardless of whether or not it was the right decision, he wanted you to live a long, happy life with little danger in it. If he had told you about your mother's origins, you might have been inclined to leave the planet one day and live a life similar to hers. He made that decision out of concern for your safety most likely. A good parent does everything they can to look after their child."
All of a sudden, a change came over Cryonia. Her eyes became glazed over, as they shifted to look past Hisashi. There didn’t appear to be anything remotely interesting that would divert her attention from the conversation, yet she was staring off into empty space. Cryonia was looking at something that only she could see. Whatever it was, it was causing her pain. Her eyes began to water up at the corners. Just as though it looked like she was about to cry, Cryonia took a deep breath, her eyes regaining their focus. She calmly reached into a pocket in her outfit, pulling out a white handkerchief. She lifted it to her eyes with care, wiping them off gently before folding the handkerchief up and slipping it back into her pocket. Once that was done, she was able to return her full attention to the Elemi hybrid in front of her. She leaned forward, peering at Hisashi and studying her intently.
"Aside from your animalistic features, you're the spitting image of your mother. I apologize for that unsightly display. Despite my best efforts, it happens from time to time. I've lost many things over the years. It's the risk everyone of the HWRE takes for their entire life. It's likely why your father kept you ignorant of your heritage. Yumi knew the risk she was taking when she came to this planet, and must have told him about the life she lived. Although this planet is relatively peaceful compared to the rest of the Galaxy right now."
Cryonia straightened her body up, tilting her head and gazing at the sky above them. She could see the white heavens clearly, despite the trees overhead that obscured her view. She watched as the snow gently floated down to the forest floor around them. This place was very calm and peaceful. It was calm enough to make one forget about all the problems in the Galaxy. Almost, but not quite.
"So this planet is where Yumi settled down. I met your mother once, a long time ago. It was back when I was started my research on Elemi abilities and the factors that determined what kind of abilities we acquired. I decided to start by exploring the four most common elements among our race, and abilities related to them. Fire, Earth, Water, and Wind. I hypothesized that if I found a correlation or traits that users of the same element had in common, then I could build the groundwork for creating a controlled ability development program. Certain abilities will help with the reconstruction of our world, so being able to raise Elemi who could use them would be a great asset to our cause. Your mother was one of the first Elemi to volunteer for the project. She played a key role in the development of my Element Tree Branch Principal."
Cryonia returned her gaze to Hisashi, her expression once again being neutral. Aside from the moment where she had zoned out, Cryonia kept herself calm throughout her encounter with the Elemi Hybrid. Even when talking about someone she once knew, she kept that calm look on her face.
"Your father was right to worry about you: we do tend to put ourselves in perilous situations for the sake of our mission. We often have to travel to other planets and do what we can to advance our objective.Since you've been raised here on Earth, you've remained blissfully ignorant of of the terrors of the universe. For nearly 300 years, factions have been waging one war after another, with only brief lulls in the fighting every once in and awhile. It started with the old Kold Empire waging war with the Saiyan Empire of old. Various factions have come and gone since then, but the scope of conflict is still vast. Even races that have nothing to do with the war suffer. There have been cases where civilizations were conquered by one group, and then later on one of their enemies can conquer that planet from them. Innocents who don't have the strength to contest with these powers have suffered the most. I was on a planet that was attacked by the Kold Empire, so I've seen first hand what happens to the weaker species in the Galaxy."
Cryonia's left hand clenched into a fist, her arm trembling as the anger filled her up again. It was a very brief display of emotion that only lasted a few seconds. Other then that, she still looked as calm as ever. Despite the painful subject matters that were brought up, she managed to keep her composure.
"That is why it's not enough just to restore our home world. We have to become strong enough to defend it from invaders, and gather allies who can help us in times of need. Hisashi, I'm certain that you would be able to help many people if you joined our cause. If you want to stay here in the place that you grew up in, I'll understand completely. You would be putting your life on the line if you helped us with our cause, and it can be a terrifying prospect. Which is one of the reasons some Elemi went off on their own. There are those who want to settle down and have a quiet life. It’s not nearly as common for an Elemi to leave the HWRE as when it was first founded. The members we have are all very loyal to the cause.”
Cryonia took a few steps closer, so that she was only a few feet away from the hybrid Elemi sword woman. Although her tone was calm, there was an intensity to her eyes that wasn't there before.
"Despite the danger, I believe that our goals are all worth the risk. I will and have put my life on the line to restore our home world and to bring peace to this war-torn Galaxy. I will even die for my beliefs if I have to. We need all the help we can get, and we will gladly embrace you if you join us. We treat hybrids the same as we treat pure Elemi. I want you to join us, but I won't force you to leave. Elemi are free spirited: we follow our passion no matter where it lies. I do recommend that you join us though. The Earth is surprisingly well protected, but other planets don't have strong defenders. You can make a difference in the universe as part of the HWRE."
{The call to arms has been given. Cryonia waits to see how Hisashi answers it}
Cryonia looked down at Hisashi solemnly. The air was heavy with the weight of the Elemi's words. A soft breeze blew around them, rustling the tree branches around them and carrying the snowflakes down at an angle. Cryonia was being completely serious about her offer. The situation really was that dire, and she was going to do everything she could to fix everything. She would gather as many allies as she could: the more people helped her, the easier things became. It was still a monumental task no matter how much resources or how many people they had though. Cryonia waited patiently for the hybrid Elemi to respond, her hair waving back and forth in the breeze. Hisashi now had to decide whether or not she would take up the challenge.
Post by Hisashi Ikuto on Mar 3, 2017 20:21:43 GMT -5
Hisashi's hands tightened into fists at Cryonia's words about what she perceived to be her father's real intentions. She was most likely correct, but that didn't change how it made Hisashi feel. Even with the purest intentions the air Elemi felt like she had been wearing a blindfold for the last sixteen years and was only now having it taken off. "I can't live happily sitting around and doing nothing while the world around me is falling apart. I don't want to be the one that is protected, I want to be the one that does the protecting." Hisashi responded firmly once she had control of the reins on her emotions. Furrowing her brow, Hisashi took a deep breath and let it out as a sigh. She could feel her emotions trying to influence her words and actions, like a pressure cooker about to explode. It was just one of the downside's to being an Elemi hybrid that she would have to learn to deal with, at the very least not letting it be a hindrance. "I'm not mad at my father, in all honesty and when I really think on it. He's all I've ever had.. I don't have any other family that I know of or a single, actual friend to care for or talk to and he's always been both. I understand it must be hard on him being a single parent. I admire the strength he must've put forth to push through the grief he felt over my mother after she died giving birth to me." Nearing the end of her words, Hisashi's voice dropped slightly in pitch. She appeared to be visibly struggling with her emotions as unknown to her she had began to shake and tears were forming in the corners of her eyes.
Sniffing Hisashi coughed and wiped at her eyes with her sleeve before taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly. With talks of races she hadn't heard of and empires the likes of which she had only heard of in fairy tales, that feeling of being overwhelmed was returning and making the wolf girl begin to doubt herself. Clenching her teeth she would shake her head and push through her feelings of doubt and fear. "My.. mother died giving birth to me. I can't even imagine what she might think of me and up until this point I didn't care.. Or so I thought. I was only forcing myself not to care because I didn't want to crave what only a mother could give. But after hearing all this and considering all things, I want to make her proud of me. I want to finish where she started and do the things she couldn't. But.." Hisashi trailed off, her gaze dropping to her feet. Taking a shaky breath, Hisashi wiped at her eyes with her sleeve once more though this time it was futile. "It's like I said, my father is all I've ever had.. If he only wanted to protect me and have me live a simpler life, I'm going against his desires and maybe even breaking his heart. I want to be the one that does the protecting and in doing so I can't live a simple life. I want to put my life on the lines for others- not just for other Elemi or for Earthlings, but anyone that's in need."
Trying to compose herself as much as possible Hisashi shook her head and kept her gaze down at her feet. "I love my father more than anything in the world. I know he wants to protect me, but I'm not a child anymore. Even if I were I just can't wait a year or ten for him to deem me 'mature enough'. I don't even have the patience to wait a single day. I would hate myself if I just continued on the way I have been.." The air Elemi had been speaking without realizing her voice was breaking and that she had began shaking and crying. She was just so upset herself for letting herself be so blind and obedient, wasting a ton of time that could've been invested into actually doing something to work towards her dream of being something akin to a guardian on moping around being a tree hugging hippie. And one couldn't forget that she was only now learning about her primary species and the state of the universe after assuming everything was bright, happy and nature-y with the occasional 'bubblegum people'. Clearing her throat, looked up at Cryonia and looked her in the face to emphasize the sincerity in her words when making her decision. "I want to join your organization. My decision is made. No more doubts or fears."
Cryonia listened quietly as Hisashi poured her guts out for her. She didn't expect for the Half-Elemi to open up to her this easily. Apparently Hisashi had lived a much more isolated life then she initially thought she did. She assumed that she just hadn't been to other planets. It seemed that her father didn't even let her go to other cities. All of this cultivated in what was by far the biggest decision of her life. Hisashi was going to join the HWRE. Under normal conditions she would have been nothing but happy that she managed to get someone to join their cause. However, it didn't seem appropriate to feel too happy about it considering what Hisashi was going through right now. Cryonia took the handkerchief out from her pocket again. She walked over to Hisashi and handed it to her.
"It's okay Hisashi. I'm sure your mother would be proud of you, whether you decide to spend your life on Earth or traveled among the stars. Don't worry about giving the handkerchief back to me. Your clothing is too good for you to ruin like that."
Cryonia stepped back a couple of paces, giving Hisashi a small smile. It was rare for Cryonia to smile for anyone. Let alone for someone she just met.
"Putting your line for the sake of others... you remind me of my daughter. She was always doing all she could to help those in need. Even though she was far from the strongest fighter out there. She lived her life protecting others, right up until the end."
Cryonia's smile faded away from her face. The subject of her daughter always conjured up a mix of emotions within the Elemi scientist. Although she sure did her best to make sure that no one could tell what she was experiencing whenever it was brought up. It wouldn't be hard for anyone to guess though, even if though she could hide her emotions well. Most parents loved their children dearly after all.
"Sometimes we have to make tough choices, even if it is against the wishes of people close to us. Although in the end, I'm not that surprise that you want to join the HWRE. Like I said earlier, we Elemi are free spirits. Your father means well, but he's still trying to make you live the life he thinks is best for you. Regardless, I don't plan on leaving for HOME right away. I'm here on Earth to establish an embassy on this planet, and diplomacy is a time consuming task. So take all the time you need to get ready. Say your goodbyes to everyone you need to. There's no question that you'll come back to this planet even after you leave it, but it's best that everyone you know understands where you're going. Unless if you don't want them to know. How you say farewell is up to you though."
Leaving her homeworld was going to be tough enough as it was. Cryonia was going to make the transition as smooth as possible for the young Elemi hybrid. It was best to ease her gently into things. It would make things much easier for the both of them later down the line.

Hisashi gladly accepted the handkerchief, wiping tears off of her face to clear up her vision and to make it easier to take her seriously when making a decision as life-changing as this one was. Her face was still a bit more red than it should be but she seemed to have had regained her composure fairly quickly. "This planet is the only home I've had until this point. Even if we give Elemi a new home, I'll want to protect this place as much if not more than the new one.. Depending on circumstances, anyway. It would just depend on which planet is protected more during the time." She stated, reassuring herself that the goodbyes she would have to make would not be permanent. When Cryonia mentioned her clothes she took a look down at herself and then nodded. "You're right. I do have a nice outfit.. I'm going to have to thank my father for that and so many other things when I say goodbye to him." The wolf girl wiped her face off one more time and smiled. Things were looking up; she wasn't going to be spending her life in complete solitude and she would get to apply her potential to something that truly helped other people.
She pocketed the handkerchief and looked up at Cryonia when the ice Elemi she had her own daughter. "Well, I would say I'm sorry if I reminded you of some painful memories.." Hisashi's smile grew. "But I'm honestly not. I'm glad I can remind you of someone that clearly meant a lot to you for reasons beyond just being your child. I feel confident that if she were alive she would be someone that I could look to for a proper example." Hopefully her words would be taken as they were intended to be. Cryonia did indeed make it hard to tell what she was feeling, but Hisashi thought it best to take a shot in the dark and made an assumption just based off the change in expression and the subject that was brought up. Hisashi may be timid, but she had some moments just like this when it appeared it was most needed.
It was at that moment that she remembered Katsurou. Her ears twitched and her expression changed. Leaving Katsurou behind now while he still struggled with the demon within his sword wouldn't feel right at all.. There was the option of bringing him, but would a human be welcome so long as they knew he was with Hisashi? Ears twitching, Hisashi began to play with her hands nervously. "What should I do about allies I can't leave behind that aren't Elemi? Would I be allowed to bring them with me?" The wolf girl would ask while still going over the alternatives in her head if she were given a no. She could always leave Katsurou with her father and hope that the worst didn't occur. The air Elemi could trust the ronin to take care of her father under normal circumstances, as he was a frail man even if he was still somewhat young. But with Katsurou's sword being an issue she didn't want to risk coming back home one day to a bloodbath within her own home. The very thought sent chills down her spine.
Then there was the option of just leaving Katsurou to his own devices away from her father. Except this alternative risked the lives of more innocence than just Hisashi's father assuming any potential rampages were to continue beyond just him. She couldn't and most certainly wouldn't risk either of these things but abandoning an opportunity to do something with herself wasn't an option, either.
Cryonia closed her eyes, a smile spreading across her lips at Hasashi's words. Now that the Elemi hybrid had calmed down, the mood was a little more relaxed then before. Cryonia found herself actually enjoying her interactions with Hisashi. It was easier for to interact casually with members of her own race. The one exception being her interactions with the other council members while a meeting was in session.
"Silly child, you don't need to follow anyone's example when it comes to your moral compass. I know you'll do the right thing at every turn. You two would have been good friends though."
Cryonia opened her eyes to see Hisashi in a very nervous state. A frown appeared on her features, although her question was answered before she could even ask it. Hisashi was worried that she would have to leave comrades behind. Cryonia walked over to the Elemi hybrid, nodding her head in conformation briefly.
"Of course you can bring someone along who isn't an Elemi or a Bijou. They can even join the HWRE if they wanted to. The only restriction they would have is that they would never be eligible for a position on the council. Anyone who doesn't have Elemi or Bijou blood running through their veins won't be accepted as one of the leaders. There's no need to be nervous Hisashi. I'm not going to say no to you in regards to accommodations you need. If there's anything else you need to know, don't hesitate to ask. And give my regards to your father the next time you see him. He's made such a nice outfit for you, and he's raised you well."
Cryonia smiled, reaching out and petting one of Hisashi's ears, gently rubbing her palm against the back of it. She knew that it was a very good way to calm the young girl down. It was something she learned when she was doing research on Zooanthropes. Even though she was a hybrid, it likely would have the same effect as it would on a pure blood. Cryonia reached over and gave the other ear attention too, petting it briefly before withdrawing her hand.

"I don't think anyone will have to worry about him wanting any kind of leadership position. He's not really.. in a fit state to take on such responsibilities." Hisashi refrained from speaking about the demon sword and it's effects it had on Katsurou. She felt that just speaking about the damnable cursed object would bring her some kind of trouble. "I only have one question, actually: What's a Bijou?" Hisashi's tail immediately got started on wagging near rapidly when the wolf girl saw Cryonia's hand moving towards her ear. It had been nearly one since anyone had scratched Hisashi's ears or pet her tail and it was driving her up the nearest wall and into orbit. Nothing she knew about compared in feeling to having her ears scratched.
Hisashi would sort of crane her head against Cryonia's hand until she started scratching the other ear, at which point Hisashi would do her best to keep her head still. The air Elemi would let out a content huff after Cryonia eventually pulled her hands away. She was slightly disappointed because of how quickly it had felt like it ended, but then she knew only one of them was capable of standing out in the freezing cold petting fuzzy ears all night. Would be one way to start some bad rumors, too.. If anyone were out there being a creeper. "Yeah, he has made some pretty nice outfits.. It's kind of a chore getting dressed in the morning, though." Hisashi smiled. She had an easy time around people, even majin's and demonically possessed ronin too, apparently. It was a little bit funny once she really thought about it. Maybe her animal-like features gave her more charm than she had originally thought.
Cryonia chuckled, knowing immediately what Hisashi was getting at when she described her friend. “He’s not one for big details, is he? Well, it’s not like we don’t have any of those in the HWRE. We always find uses for the talents that people possess.”
Cryonia then got a question from Hisashi that she didn’t expect for her to hear. It would have been easier to address it once she had taken her to HOME. The Bijou were very hard to explain to people who weren’t very familiar with them. They truly were a strange existence. Cryonia sighed, pressing her palm against her forehead and closing her eyes.
“You’ve presented me with quite a challenge. Explaining what a Bijou is to someone not familiar with alien biology is a very tricky affair. I’ll start with where they came from. Before it became inhabitable, our planet was home to many different unique lifeforms. Out of all of them, two of them evolved to be sentient species. The Elemi, such as you and myself. And the Bijou. In that sense I suppose you can call them our sister race.”
Cryonia turned around, taking a few steps away from Hisashi, tapping her finger against her chin. Honestly there wasn’t much more she could say without confusing the half Elemi. This really was something that she was going to have to show her in person in order for her to understand. Still, she would do the best she could given the circumstances.
“Bijou are like living gemstones. That’s the simplest way I can put it. Their biology is more complicated than that, but it essentially boils down to that. They aren’t as many strong ones as there are Elemi, but they have a series of very unique abilities that make them very difficult to kill. I don’t think there’s another race out there that has the survivability of the Bijou. Out of all the natural born species anyway. I could be proven wrong one day, but so far the Bijou are the most durable race out there.”
Cryonia turned around, her cool blue gaze regarding Hisashi again. They had both been out in the cold for awhile now. The time had passed by very fast for Cryonia, but she bet that it was going fairly slowly for Hisashi. It wasn’t easy for most people to endure this weather after all.
“If your clothing doesn’t take much effort to put in, then it isn’t worth wearing in public. You must be getting cold. If you’re too far away from where you normally live, I can take you to my place to warm up.”
Cryonia hadn’t offered to bring anyone to any of her labs outside of HOME for a long time. She usually liked keeping her residence on other worlds isolated without others knowing where exactly she resided. However, she was going to make an exception for Hisashi.

Hisashi blinked and then tilted her head at the concept of 'living gemstones'. It wasn't all that surprising, seeing as she was still convinced majin's were bubblegum people. Rocks definitely weren't off the table when gum was stuck underneath it, I guess one could say. It probably would indeed have gotten super confusing for the young pup had Cryonia decided to go in-depths, but really that would've applied to most things when going in-depth. She had the attention span of a sleep-deprived goldfish most of the time, but she made up for it in times where it was more necessary for her to pull her head out of her rear. This wasn't one of those times though, so she was basically living up to the canine features she possessed by being a clueless puppy. "Are my clothes really that nice?" Hisashi questioned, one of her ears twitching to show her confusion.
She knew she was unaware of a lot of stuff, but she didn't want that to turn her into an ungrateful brat if clothes she wore pretty often were actually of higher quality than normal. Being too far from home was a bit of an understatement, if one considered the walking with a bit of flying distance to get from the Eastern Islands all the way to the cold north. It wasn't anything Hisashi wasn't used to, as she had been in the desert areas far to the west of her home, but to anyone that wasn't a fan of walking more than a few miles might find some of the distances Hisashi was used to a little bit intimidating. It still took a fair bit of time but she never really acknowledged the impressive distances she was able to travel in the past.. again really putting emphasis on that cluelessness. With that in mind, the offer to stay somewhere warm and away from potential crowds was too appealing for Hisashi to reject. Especially when it came from someone she had warmed up to rather quickly. "That sounds good!" She nodded a bit enthusiastically, her tail wagging at the idea of being able to take a break somewhere that wasn't cold or near a decently large populace like the village she had been headed towards.
