"What do you mean I have to take on an investigation, mother? It's Saturday. I was supposed to go out to the movies with Kasumi," Shira groaned while chilling on the couch at his mother's. "Don't you dare complain to me, young man! I let you do ALL that brutish training with your father; the least you can do is do your mother a favor every now and again," she lectured with a sour face; a puff of white smoke expanding in the air after she exhaled. He hated that smoking of hers. He sighed. "Why you do always have to rub that in my face," he groaned once more while getting up finally. "Fine I'll do the stupid investigation. Let me go put on some pants," he said while going towards his room. She smiled to herself (pleased that she had won this argument) as the boy walked away. "A friend at one of the ExGen Solutions subsidiaries reported a hack recently on their servers. They had some special project going on that apparently whose data has been copied. The hacker has been threatening to expose their secret technology to a rival corporation unless they pay a ransom to get it back," she began to explain to him as he was changing in the room.
His ears perked as he listened to the whole ordeal. "I would hire a private investigator, but you seem to LOVE playing vigilante around these parts. So who better to look into it than my son?" she explained. He sighed. "I stop some thugs around the streets a COUPLE of times and now you're calling me a vigilante. Whatever. I'll do it," he said as he walked out the front door.
Life with his mother was always like this. She was throwing him into all these intellectual things. He already had background knowledge in mechanics, computer science, and psychology; and he was only eighteen years old. He guess it was helpful stuff to know but it was aggravating how much pressure she put on him all the time. He sighed to himself as he flew off towards the address she gave him.
It wasn't long before he reached the address as it was just a few miles away. The Earthling landed swiftly on the ground of the building. He had passed by here a couple of times before, but it always just looked like some boring warehouse. It was hard to believe that a robotics company was stationed here. "Unless - that was the point," he thought to himself. Whatever project they were doing. It must have been pretty top-secret for someone to ask his mom for help. She was pretty high up herself over at her company of Pearlworth Industries. She was likely at the very least indirectly involved with the project. Shira shrugged to himself believing that it honestly didn't matter - and headed on inside.
"Hello can I help you, young man?" the Secretary at the front desk said as he walked on. She seemed a bit confused. The lobby was rather small, a round mahogany desk with a circular walkway to get to the other, much larger side of the warehouse. Shira assumed that the girl must have no idea of who he was. Mother probably didn't bother to tell him. "Uh hi I'm Shira. My mother must have mentioned I was coming... I'm supposed to be the one to... handle the crisis going on right now?" he trailed off to see if any of what he was saying would jog her memory at all. Suddenly her eyes widened and she gasped. "My mistake, Mr. Yoshida. Your mother told me you were coming I just.. didn't know you were so young," she explained, her face sweating as she began to worry about his disapproval. It was clear his mother had quite the reputation. He thought he was the only one scared of her. "It's fine, ma'am. Mind just letting Mr. Nart know I've come to see him?" he asked politely. If he could talk to the manager of this subsidiary then he could understand the matter a bit more in depth. She nodded before getting on the telephone - speaking to the man about his appointment being here. Shira was quite used to this kind of treatment, though he would be lying if he said he at all enjoyed it.
"You wished to speak to me, Mr. Yoshida? It is a pleasure to have you with us. I've known your mother for quite some time," the old man said as he bowed upon Shira's entrance. He was clearly a desperate man given his level of decorum. Most men of his stature would arrogant. They expected Shira to bow before them despite him being on equal footing with them intellectual (and far above them physically). Shira smiled. "I'm happy to help ExGen Solutions solve this crisis. Would you mind explaining to me what the issue is?" he asked, his head tilted to the side. The man nodded - making sure the room was clear before taking a deep breath. "We've been testing some androids recently for the military. The intergalactic politics of the Saiyans, the Nameks, and all other alien lifeforms has become quite a threat in recent times. ExGen Solutions took the initiative to begin creating machinery that would be able to take on our foreign enemies on the battlefield.
The Military has all these years been relying on trade and cheap toy weapons to ward off foreign attackers, but the galaxy has changed. Our foes have only gotten stronger, while we'e only gotten weaker! We depend entirely on our half-Saiyan refugees to defend us and that is not a card we at ExGen Solutions think wise to depend on." the Chairman explained calmly to him. Shira listened closely, keeping quiet and not interrupting as the man went on and on about the project that had been jeopardized in recent times.
"Alright Chairman. I can't entirely agree with your plans, but it is not my business. I'll retrieve the plans for you and catch the hackers. Fetch me a laptop." he said with a smile.
Ten minutes later they had him situated at their mainframe - where he'd have top notch hardware at his disposal. The RAM, The Processor, the Network Adapter and many of the components were state of the art. This thing would process as fast as he did - and considering his intelligence this thing was going to be going for a ride. Furiously typing against the keys - Shira began a barrage of command prompts in the system as he tried to pinpoint the hackers imprint. "I FOUND THEM!" he shouted as the computer screen tracked their location. They were in East City in a hotel. They were clearly working with low-grade hardware. They wouldn't be a match for Shira's skill and tech. Furiously typing as he continued to try and breach their firewalls - the sound of keys mashing as he inputed many commands into the prompt to workaround the coding and get inside their computer. Once he took control of their systems he would be able to access the files for himself and delete their copy - clearing ExGen Solutions of any premature leaks.
They weren't half bad at their jobs, but Shira was better. Continuously mashing against the keys the teenage boy managed to breach their systems. Pulling up their desktop the young hacker searched the system for the files. Pulling them up on his display he browsed them thoroughly. With no one in the room watching him - Shira gazed at them scanning them thoroughly. The designs were quite interesting. His curiosity being quite interested he couldn't help but look at the plans. ExGen had had some good ideas for mechanical robotics - combat drones capable of fighting even Saiyans in a fight. But he noticed some dastardly flaws that would make this project a folly. Alas that was not why he was here on their computers today. Deleting the files as they uploaded to his memory for future usage and introspection - the teenage genius calmly smiled as he walked outside. "I found their location and alerted the local authorities. Judging by their minimal hardware they are amateurs that likely were just having a good time. Their copy of your plans has been deleted, and your company's secret project is now safe, Mr. Nart," Shira said with a grin.
"As a reward of my good work I have taken the liberty of memorizing the plans myself," he said with a serious stare. Mr. Nart looked at him with a rather wide-eyed, worried expression. "Mr. Yoshida! Why would you do such a thing?" he asked him with a heartbroken tone. "Oh not to worry Mr. Nart, your designs weren't worth stealing. In my browsing of the files I've deduced that they will in fact be a failure. They are of no value to me. They simply inspired an idea of my own. I do agree - Planet Earth has its work cut out for it if we want to survive.
But it's clear you lot aren't right for the job."
And with that he left.
