about Jie Shan Lan Dian
"Quotes are a waste of time. Actions speak louder than words."
A light snow fell in the north, not an uncommon sight on Earth. Jie Shan stepped out into the dancing flakes, glancing skyward. Gingerly, he held out his tongue to catch the crystallized water and he regarded the stuff with chlidlike amusement as it melted against the pulsing, fleshy warmth of his tongue. The hybrid loved snow. In his youth, he'd not gotten much of a chance to know the stuff, aside from the odd assignment during his stint as a grunt in the Alliance. The worlds oft frequented by Saiyans were harsh, lucky to get rain let alone snow. So it was with a simple pleasure that he strode out into his open courtyard this afternoon, the world silenced by the pale curtain that came down on it, as if to hush an audience.
The world seemed so... peaceful. Jie Shan felt as if he had stepped out of his own life and into a fairy tale. Despite the raging sea within his own mind, tiny little fragments of peace sometimes surfaced. It was moments like these that kept Jie Shan sane. He knew silence, but peace? Peace was rare and fleeting, like all good things in life. And try as he might, Jie Shan never quite found the strength to grasp such moment and keep them from melting away like snow flakes beneath the harsh sun of reality. Jie Shan gazed up into the heavens above, a gray blanket of clouds thick overhead, blocking out that reality if only for a moment. A forlorn smile slowly crept across his face, lips animated by a sudden, paradoxical moment of melancholy and joy. It was the simple things in life. The familiar weight of a loved one's arm tight around your neck. The hazy, utterly relaxed moments spent between waking and dreams. And the little, crystalized moments in time like these, living as if one was caught in a snow globe.
But like everything else, Jie Shan would dash them away. In truth, the young hybrid was oft his own worse enemy when it came to moments like this. Forged by a lifetime of trials, Jie Shan Lan Dian could not be happy. No, his life was a storm and he had little choice but to ride it out. For a time, he was a fool. He thought his new life on Earth might be peaceful, idyllic even. But the gathering clouds lit up with lightning and crashing thunder, rousing him from his dream. The world was threatened by darkness, darkness of a kind that had made Jie Shan the man he was today. He felt a duty, a calling, to be a guard against the shadows and those who lived in them, a blinding light meant to sear and burn the monsters that go bump in the night, to turn them all to ash. Lightning was the great flash of light in darkness.
Jie Shan stood in the center of the courtyard, legs spread slightly and arms held at the ready. His sword was strapped tight against his back. The Saiyan-Elemi hybrid grit his teeth as if he were some fearsome beast and growled as he called forth the golden power within him. Silver hair turned into glorious gold and black eyes were transmogrified into teal. The hair stood on end and his muscles swelled slightly. The energy pulsed with heat and the very snow he had adored melted before him, evaporating almost instantly. And normally, he would stop here. But there was something deeper in him, beckoning him to push on. It was the promise of power beyond.
Jie Shan new the latent fountain of Saiyan power did not end at mastery of the Super Saiyan before. His time with the Alliance and his dalliances with Rudieri had told him there was a level beyond. He reached it for it, crawled for it, got on his soul's hands and knees and begged for it. Jie Shan looked deep into himself, body crying out. Rapid waves of lighting arced over his body as his power built up, like a brewing storm. But it never came, that elusive ghost of might eluding him. He let out a final yell of indignation and desperation, but it was all for nothing; Jie Shan fell back unhappily into his normal Super Saiyan form.
A pout came across his face. Such power... He had felt it before. And now it was so close, but so far at the same time. Another contradiction. Jie Shan was made of them. Unhappily, he took to his training, so caught up in his own trials that he neglected to think that anybody might have felt his energy. He did not hide it.

"Lets see here, if I add liquid hydrogen to the mix...."
Cryonia was in the middle of one of her experiments regarding the control over various elements. More specifically, she was seeing if she could use her own abilities to influence other elements without having to use Ki. To accomplish that, she was going to create a scenario where she could create flames in an indirect method using her abilities. Then she would see if she could control the flames by controlling certain conditions with her own abilities.
As she set the vial down on the table, she felt a massive power level spiking up in her immediate area. It was a signature that was both familiar and foreign to her. Cryonia knew that she had little time to waste, so she immediately stored the chemicals away and then headed for the entrance to her lab. It would have been a pain if she had to re-freeze more gases to create the effect she wanted.
Cryonia grabbed her coat and started putting on her winter gear. The cold didn't effect her at all, due to her ability set. That being said, the heavy snow and wind could potentially mess up her clothing if she didn't dress for the winter. She wanted to look presentable for whoever this was, so she was going to make an extra effort towards looking professional. Granted she always made sure on looking professional whenever she planned on meeting someone. Plus this would allow her to hide her abilities until she decided to reveal them. It would be rather telling if she wasn't bothered by the cold.
Despite putting on a considerable amount of winter wear, Cryonia was fairly quick at getting fully dressed. She was well versed in putting on clothing that was time consuming to put on, so she could get herself ready quickly if she had to. Cryonia preferred taking her time though. Still, there were some cases where that just wasn't applicable. After securing the entrance to her lab, she took off in the icy sky, heading towards the strong power level she was sensing.
After flying a considerable distance, she came across a mansion in the far north. It was a very strange place to find such a structure, that was for sure. Usually these places were in much nicer locations, so that their owners could take full advantage of the property around them. There wasn't that much you could do with land like this, unless if you had abilities that allowed you to deal with the cold like Cryonia did. She could sense the strong power coming from within the large structure. She landed in front of the large doors, raised a gloved hand and knocked loudly. She also increased her power, so that they would be able to sense her easily. Granted, the weights under her clothing restricted how much she could let out, but she was still much stronger then the average human.

"Quotes are a waste of time. Actions speak louder than words."
Post by Jie Shan Lan Dian on Mar 14, 2017 17:02:32 GMT -5
Jie Shan had begun to train since his failed attempt to ascend. He was once again going back to basics; in this case, push-ups. His toned body, electric with power, pushed against the flagstones of his courtyard. He moved with great care, though his body pumped up and down rapidly. Any more pressure and the flagstones would shatter beneath his powerful body like panes of glass. Super Saiyans, he quickly learned, had to be very careful with how they moved. Their bodies were supercharged weapons, fulled to bursting with power. He had since mastered the transformation and learned the extent of its power, but still: it never hurt to be careful.
But something on the horizon broke his focus: briefly, he was made aware of an approaching power level. He trembled, stopping his body in its tracks lest the newfound distraction break the careful control he had over himself. Instead, he slowed and slowly shifted into a sitting position. Were he not in his Super Saiyan state, the chill would set in: Jie Shan was dressed for exercise. A tight, white, Earthling-make tank top clung to his body and his legs were draped in loose athletic shorts. He had scene the style in an Earthling sports magazine. Those rags were much more common in his home nowadays, ever since he'd opened his doors to the people of Earth. And he'd taken a liking to them himself, for some odd reason.
Jie Shan focused on the energy for a moment. Small, by his standards, but rather large by the standard for this planet. Another martial artist perhaps, come to test their mettle against him or seek training? Whatever it was, he noted as he rose from the ground, it was not utterly of Earth. These days, he did not know if that was a blessing or a curse. Though Jie Shan would soon fine out: there was a knock at his door. Sighing, he left his courtyard and made for the door. He could sense the presence at the front of his building, and moments later a loud knock confirmed the location of his newest visitor.
Jie Shan finally arrived at the door and ran a hand through his spiked, golden hair that was abuzz with powerful energy. He cracked the door open and peered around it, making certain the interloper was not a salesperson selling magazine subsriptions first; the hybrid had enough of those now, four in-fact. A curious set of teal eyes peeked around to find a... woman. An odd looking one, to be sure, but still. Golden eyebrows arched upward in surprise. Not what he had expected, he mused. Jie Shan cleared his through and opened the door in full, a slight burst of icy wind rushing in at the first opportunity.
"Well hello, miss," said Jie Shan with a hint of interest, "I can't say I get many visitors of your kind out this way. You lost? Nearest town is a while out."
Jie Shan cracked a grin. "Or maybe you're here on business," he suggested, "You would not be the first courier someone has sent my way."

Cryonia's eyes studied the man before her. She had never been simultaneously impressed and disappointed at the same time. On the one hand, this individual was very strong, and was very well off if he was living in a place like this. He had even achieved the Super Saiyan form. Appearance wise and the way he held himself though.... he was very sloppy looking. Cryonia had no idea who designed such a shirt a pants like that, but clearly no one ever said no to them. Still, how he carried himself and what he wore wasn't the reason she was here.
"I live nearby on my own. I only go into town when I need supplies. I felt your power signature from where I was and my curiosity was piqued. I didn't realize I had such a strong neighbor."
Cryonia had to resist the urge to roll her eyes at the courier remark. Honestly, being under cover really was a pain. Although she had to do it right now, for the sake of the mission. The very first thing I'm doing when I'm getting back is to have a nice relaxing bath in my pool while having a glass of my favorite wine. I love my work, but this has been testing my patience.
"I suppose you could say that I'm here on business, although I came her on my own violation. I am Cryonia, representative of the Homeworld Restoration Effort. I go to other worlds to conduct research, gather resources, and to spread the word of the situation that the Elemi and Bijou races are in. I wish to discuss some matters with you, if that is acceptable for you."
Cryonia's bright blue eyes looked into Jie's own, gaging his reactions. Cryonia could stand out there all day if she wanted to: she showed no visible discomfort from the cold.

Jie Shan cocked a gilded eyebrow. She lived nearby?
"I did not realize I had any neighbors at all," remarked Jie Shan, "I must have missed your energy signature."
The presence of another near his home... He did not know quite how to feel about that particular revelation. On one hand, he'd picked the location for this home due to its relative remoteness, Jie Shan preferring the isolation of a northern sea of stone and ice. There was peace here, mostly, a kind he had never known. He supposed it did not truly matter, no. The woman had gone unnoticed until now, likely after parting ways today they would go back to their own existences, indifferent to one another, each preferring their own little slice of the world. Still, the supercharged teal eyes of the Super Saiyan did not leave the person of his visitor. He looked her up and down, eyes like spotlights, searching for any sign of ill intent, or any intent at all.
The strange woman went on, moving to fill the lacuna of the meaning behind this social call. About time, thought Jie Shan, that she reveal what business she was here on. He nodded her on, encouraging her speech. His hand still gripped the heavy metal knob of his door, ready to close it as a moment's notice should the conversation go south or turn to the topic of door-to-door sales.
But she took him by surprise. At first, he dully recognized the words 'Homeworld Restoration Effort', the smallest flash of recognition going through his eyes like a dying light bulb in its death throes. But as the sentence went on, something even more pertinent was said: the Elemi.
"Ah," he said finally, "I see. I suppose I ought to entertain that. I am half-Elemi myself, though my mother. Though I dare say I have been quite... distant from my maternal people."
Jie Shan stepped aside and beckoned her to step in with a sweeping motion of the arm. "Please come in, miss," said Jie Shan, a certain grace now present in his voice, "We can sit down and discuss matters."
Thinking quickly, Jie Shan dispatched a swift mental message to his Earthling apprentice, Dou Furu: that he ought bring some tea to the foyer. The hybrid had guests to entertain.
"By the by, neighbor," continued the silver-haired halfblood, "My name is Jie Shan Lan Dian. Might I have the pleasure of knowing your own name?"
He gave the women a wide smile.

Cryonia gave the Saiyan-Elemi hybrid a small smile, the corners of her lips barely moving upwards. "If you had sensed me, then I wouldn't have succeeded in falling off the map. I prefer privacy when conducting research. I prefer staying in cold climates whenever I can. There aren't many people here and I love the weather."
Cryonia's eyes widened as the man told her he was a half-Elemi. He was one of her kind, and he was this strong? His power was what attracted her to this location in the first place. Her eyes shone brightly as she realized the opportunity that she had stumbled upon. She entered the house, giving Jie a polite nod of her head.
"Well met Jie. I am Cryonia Arlumia. You can just refer to me by my first name. We have much to discuss, now that the introductions are out of the way. I didn't expect for things to turn out like this, but it's a welcomed surprise. I presume you grew up on this planet, since you haven't connected to your fellow Elemi. How much did your mother tell you about your heritage? She should have at the very least told you the true name of our Homeworld. The majority of the Galaxy refers to it as ES-03. Although Elemi and Bijou call it by the name we gave it long ago."
Cryonia took of her coat and hung it on the back of one of the chairs in the foyer. Underneath she was wearing her usual elaborate attire. She took a seat in one of the chairs, then reached down and slipped her boots off her feet. Her eyes shifted over to Jie, regarding him with curiosity. Although she wasn't showing it, Cryonia was itching to satisfy the curiosity she had about this individual. She had so many questions for him, but she would start with the basics for now. She didn't want to overreach her hand and overwhelm him. There were some things about Elemi that he didn't know, and would shock him once he found out. It was best to ease their way into things.

Jie Shan gave the women another appraising look as she stepped into his home. Elemi, he thought, if he had to guess. Jie Shan knew little of the Bijou and besides, the woman had a... frigid look about her. It made sense in his head, though it was quite possible he was wrong about that. Just how many Elemi was he familiar with? Very few, he realized. How little claim he had to half himself, how much of Jie Shan was a stranger in his own body.
The women gave another speech, introducing herself as Cyronia Arlumia. A mouthful, thought Jie Shan, but he committed to memory. This Cyronia had a lot of assumptions, even going so far as to assume that he had grown up on Earth. And questions, asking what Jie Shan knew about the plight of their people. And all the while, Jie Shan gave an amused smile. Once again, he ran his hand through his hair and was suddenly aware he was still in his Super Saiyan state, feeling the crackling energy radiating from his biology. "Oh," he said, clearing his throat, "Let me just drop out of this real quick..."
Closing his teal eyes, Jie Shan took a deep breath and let his energy go. Slowly, golden power dwindled away into the ether and he was left in his base state: a fine-kept head of silver hair and black Saiyan eyes that revealed themselves as they fluttered open. Saiyan tail, all brown and alive, swayed behind him as he now crossed the foyer to join Cyronia in a seat near her. "Sorry about that," he began, "I've trained that form to such a degree it has begun to feel natural. I didn't even notice I was still in my Super Saiyan form when I greeted you."
He sat himself into his seat, tail wrapping tight around his waist, and positioned himself to be facing Cyronia, hands folded in his lap and a wide grin on his face. "Now," he began, "Allow me to answer your questions. Sadly, no, I was not born here on Earth. My origins are in a different part of the universe. Planet Natto, in-fact. You see, my mother is a hired blade, a mercenary. She was contracted with the Saiyan Alliance for a short while and in that time she met my father. I suppose something occurred, because I was born some time later on Natto. My mother departed the Saiyan planet and left me with my father, who raised me from my early childhood."
He paused a moment and gave her a moment to consider the information. "However," he continued, "My mother returned after some time and took me away from the planet. From there on, I joined her on her mercenary adventures across the galaxy. And for the longest time, she was the only Elemi, aside from myself, whom I knew. And let me tell you, mother said precious little about the Elemi or Bijou. She, of course, told me about the doomed nature of our shared origin, but she told me little about our people. Yes, I am well aware of the extended absence they took from the universe, but beyond that, I know little else."
He gave a slight, sad chuckle. "And I am sad, and almost embarrassed, to say that she never mentioned the true name of the planet. She's always called it ES-03 when talking about it. I guess that's the common name. Mother was always a little... detached. Primarily concerned with her work as a mercenary, you know? It was not until... I want to say three years ago, that I met anyone else of Elemi ancestry." WC: 613

The bemused expression on Cryonia's face was all that one needed to know how Cryonia felt about Jie forgetting that he was in a powered up form. She had seen the Super Saiyan transformation more times then she could count, but she had never heard of someone just walking around casually while in it. How could you forget that you were powered up? It was something to look into later. Cryonia crossed one leg over the other, frowning as she reached up and rubbed the back of her head. Jie had quite a bit of catching up to do.
"I'm surprised that your mother negelected to even the most basic things about our race. Matteria is easier to pronounce ES-03, so why would she only refer to it as that? Regardless, you should at the very least know the basic history of your heratige. A long time ago, our planet became inhospitable to life. It happened so long ago that no one knows what caused it anymore. We Elemi and our sister race the Bijou were forced to leave the planet, and departed from this Galaxy. When we came back to the Milky Way, we found our Homeworld still inhospitable to life. We debated over what we should from there. There was one Elemi who decided the direction our race would and has gone since."
Cryonia lowered her hand down to the armrest of the chair, sitting up straight in it. she didn't want to make herself too comfortable, She was talking about a serious matter, and didn't want to give the impression that she found the subject matter boring.
"An Elemi by the name of Zenon had achieved what no other Elemi before him had achieved. He obtained the transformation known today as the Super Elemi. As a result, everyone looked to him as a leader, and would follow whatever path he would walk down. He proposed a bold plan: to restore Matteria and make it habitable again. To that end, he formed the Homeworld Restoration Effort. A council was created to govern over the Elemi and Bujin, over which he presided as head. All of those who chose to be in the HWRE constructed the space station HOME, which houses all its members and circles around Matteria. Those who left the HWRE went to other worlds and lived their lives on other worlds. We continue to do research to terraform our planet to be habitable again, even to this day. It's one of the reasons I've come to this planet."
She tilted her head slightly, regarding Jie curiously. What she was about to do was a little bit risky. Going to the heart of something wasn't a tactic Cryonia usually employed. She preferred to ease her way into things. However, in this case she determined it was best to take the initiative now, rather then build up to her request.
"There's so much I want to tell you about your heratige. What the Bujin are like, our culture, the research we've done, and our accomplishments. Unfortunately,I couldn't possibly explain it all to you in a single day, However, we would have plenty of time to talk about it if you joined the Home World Restoration Effort. You'd start off at a very high position. You will definitely have a shot at obtaining a council seat if you wished. We need all the strong individuals we can get, especially with how dangerous the Galaxy has become as of late. You would have many comrades and resources to work with. You could do a lot of good not just for the HWRE, but for many beings suffering throughout the Galaxy. I've never given this offer to anyone this quickly before. Then again, you aren't an ordinary individual. So I have to treat this situation as extraordinary."
Cryonia straightened her head up again, quietly gaging his reactions. She was going to watch every movement carefully. One could learn a lot about someone just by how their reacted to certain situations. She hoped that he accepted the invitation right away, although she figured that she would have to convince him into it. That was alright though. Jie was more then worth the extra effort.

Jie Shan watched with curious interest as the women frowned. Had he said something wrong? If he did, did he even care? Likely not. But still, he listened to this Cyronia give her speech on the storied past of the Elemi race. Though he did not quite appreciate that it began with a perceived slight against his mother. Jie Shan did not like to think of her as neglectful; she was the one who taught him near on everything there was to know about the universe. Just because she did not refer to the Elemi homeworld as "Matteria" did not mean she was any less of a mother. Jie Shan gave a stark frown, but said nothing yet; he would listen first, then speak.
And quite the story it was. Arlumia spoke of this doomed Matteria. How it had become inhospitable and the people of its people had left the galaxy in a huff, abandoning their planet to its fate. Not a poor choice, thought Jie Shan, sometimes it was better to cut ones losses and move on. Especially, he mused, when your entire planet had gone and become deadly to live on. That was usually a good time to take a step back and give it a break. And so the natives had, only returning after some time. To find it was still inhospitable, of course. Jie Shan could have inferred that much; he was not utterly devoid of logic, like some sort of child. He got the impression that Cyronia might have been a school teacher once upon a time, perhaps it a past life. The way she sat was so formal, so rigid.
Still, Jie Shan nodded politely and listened. Cyronia went on to explain more about the state of their people. She mentioned this "Zenon" character and his ascent to a state called "Super Elemi", which greatly interested Jie Shan. Was it like a Super Saiyan transformation? He had never quite heard of it, though it was amusing to consider that such power laid dormant in Elemi blood. It seemed his cocktail of mixed blood was quite impressive indeed. Super Saiyans and Super Elemi, he thought, how grand. How, dare he say, super?
But she went on to the formation of the Homeworld Restoration Effort and its massive space station HOME. She even mentioned those who left that little band of Elemi and Bijou, outcasts, he presumed, his mother belonged to. Still, the idea of terraforming an entire planet was quite interesting, Jie Shan had to admit. Such grand sciences were outside his realm of expertise, but he had an eye for bureaucratic projects; the Alliance had trained him well in that regard. It was a dizzying prospect that such things were possible. To change the fate of an entire planet? That would truly take a miracle. Though, he supposed greater things had happened.
Cyronia went on, speaking of Jie Shan's heritage. Jie Shan had no doubt the legacy of the Elemi people was long and storied and Jie Shan was truly interested, but... what claim did he have to it? Until today, he had never even heard the true name of ES-03. Jie Shan had never really cared. But now he was faced with it head on: this woman was asking him to join this so-called Homeworld Reclamation Effort. Jie Shan regarded her curiously. How interesting, he thought, that she would extend such an offer so soon after meeting him. Perhaps they were desperate for help, or perhaps Cyronia had simply taken an interest in Jie Shan. She claimed Jie Shan was extraordinary. He cocked an eyebrow; Jie Shan heard that one before.
Suddenly, Jie Shan let out a deep sigh. "Well, Miss Cyronia," he said, looking at her now, regarding her with a small smile, "You have certainly said a lot and given me much to think on. Though I don't necessarily appreciate the comment about my mother, though I doubt you meant it in malice. I think it was sensible to refer to it as ES-03. Better to give me the galactic standard term, should it ever come up in conversation, yes?"
He paused a moment, never letting the diplomatic smile drop from his face.
"As for joining this Homeworld Reclamation Effort of yours, well, let's discuss that," he continued, "I am no stranger to political organizations or bureaucracy. I can't say I am especially tempted by the prospect of a high rank nor the possibility of attaining a council seat. In fact, I dare say I might even be a little sour on the idea. You see, I was a Councillor for the Saiyan Alliance, prior to all the recent... business that has occurred. As you can imagine, I've wielded great political power before. And I gave it up willingly, coming to Earth so that I might enjoy myself. And I have made quite the life for myself here."
He held up his arms in a sweeping motion, as if to ask her to look about her. "I traded political power for a home," he explained, "I've even gone and created a new martial arts tradition during my time away from politics, something I always wanted to do, and it has found great success. My Lightning Blade Arts is my pride and joy, and I have started to take in students from this planet. Quite the responsibility, you know?"
He cleared his throat. "Though I will say, Miss Cyronia, certain aspects of this Homeworld Reclamation Effort appeal to me."
Jie Shan grinned wide as he looked at her. "Certain aspects, of course," he said, "Including, but certainly not limited to, this claim of yours that I could do some good and ease the suffering in the universe. Of course, I've recently rededicated myself to that elsewhere, but perhaps I might be convinced to lend you my hand, Miss Cyronia."
Jie Shan gave a small shrug. "Perhaps you and I could discuss it more after I have had some time to consider if involving myself in another organization is something I want to do," he offered, "I'd certainly enjoy hearing more about this Matteria and our people in the meantime, if you're willing."

Cryonia frowned as Jie expressing his displeasure with how she had mentioned his mother. She had taken great care not to word things so that it seemed like she was insulting her. She mentioned her surprise at an action his mother had done, not against the woman herself. Yet Jie still interpreted it to be against her. Cryonia made a mental note to word things more specifically with Jie from now on.
"I wasn't insulting your mother. I was merely expressing my surprise at something she didn't do. I apologize that it came off as such. I suppose you are right about the planet name. ES-03 is the name that most in the Galactic community use. Although for most Elemi who know that it's name is Matteria find it particularly hard to refer to it by it's more common name. Which was why your mother never mentioning it's real name to you rather odd."
Unfortunately that wasn't the only problem that arose during their conversation. Granted, this was a problem that she expected to crop up. He wasn't going to join the HWRE right off the bat, and showed disdain towards the more political aspects of the organization. Granted, he did have good reason for being weary of those things. Cryonia chuckled, her lips curving into a small smile.
"Since you've had power before, then you know both the strengths and downsides to having political power. If we were having this conversation a decade ago, I would have told you that I would never aim for a seat on the council. It's a responsibility I didn't want to have. Certain events made me reconsider that stance though. I came to the realization that it was where I could do the most good. So with enough hard work I got this position, even though I would have been more happy just conducting my experiments and research in peace. Sometimes you have to make personal sacrifices for the sake of issues more important then yourself. I haven't regretted my decision, not once. That is the path I choose for myself though. You don't have to ever be a part of the council, even if you join the HWRE. I have a compromise that I believe can work for the both of us."
Cryonia unfolded her legs, planting both of her feet on the ground. She placed her elbows on her lap, folding her hands in front of her face as she leaned forward slightly. Her hands covered her mouth, so that Jie couldn't see the expression on her face. Although the formal sounding tone she shifted back to was a pretty good indication of things.
"I'll let you in on a little secret. While we have two other "ranks" the council is are the only individuals who hold any political power within the HWRE. Although we sometimes structure things to make it seem like we have ranks for the convienience of other species. Most members don't have an official title. Those that the council trusts to handle more challenging tasks are referred to as The Favored. It's simply a title that explains their position to outsiders. If you join my squad, I'll give you the title of Favored. I'll also let you choose your own role within the group. Whether you want to be put in a position of command or just perform certain tasks is up to you. And of course you can challenge a member of the council for a spot on it, if you so wished to. It's within the rights of all members of the HWRE."
Cryonia reached into a pocket in her outfit, and place a small device on the armrest of the chair. It shimmered to life, projecting small holograms of planets and data.
"This is a holodisk. It has many functions, but its most significant one is that it allows me to stay in contact with the HWRC headquarters. I still have to attend meetings after all, and I need to stay up to date on current events that are happening in the Galaxy. I propose that we do a trial run of you being a member. I plan on staying on Earth until I conclude some very important negotiations. While I'm here, you could help me with my work. It will give you a good idea of what my job entails. Plus having someone strong like yourself accompanying me would lower the potential risks that could befall me on this planet. I normally would have guards accompany me, but certain circumstances forced me to come here alone."
Cryonia leaned back in her chair, trying to make herself as comfortable as possible while keeping her eyes on Jie. She wasn't letting him onto it, but the fact that she had to come to Earth in the manner that she did was irritating to her. It would have been too dangerous to come with the traditional methods though.
"Don't worry, I won't make you do anything against your own wishes or personal beliefs. If you like the experience, then perhaps it will be enough to convince you to change your mind about joining. I'll even work my schedule to make things more convenient for you. As well as I can anyway: some matters just to precedence. The experience would give you plenty of time to think about whether or not you wish to join the HWRE. Should you agree to this proposal."
Cryonia's attention perked up further when the Saiyan-Elemi hybrid brought up his Lighting Blade Arts. This was certainly unexpected. She crossed her legs again, a wry smile spreading across her face.
"That's really admirable of you. You've decided to dedicate your time to teaching others your fighting style and how to use your element. It's no easy task teaching someone elemental manipulation if they don't have an affinity to that element. It takes a considerable amount of time for someone to master it. So you are a lighting Elemi then. It suits you well, considering that your transformations turn your hair yellow and produces electric sparks the stronger you get. I have never been a fan of fighting myself, although I've decided that now is the time to build up my strength. It'll buy me more time to complete our mission."
Cryonia looked down at her hand, closing and opening her fist experimentally. Yes, the time was right for her to get stronger.
"Here's something you probably don't know about Elemi. We can actually increase our lifespans the stronger we get. With each new threshold of power we cross, our bodies become more and more in tune with our respective element. As a result, our aging process slows down. We already live an average of twice as long as a human being at the bare minimum. But by my current calculations, it will take at least 3 centuries to successfully terraform Matteria with our current capabilities. I need to increase my lifespan in case we can't fix it within 2 centuries."
Cryonia looked up at Jie, straightening her posture and giving him her usual neutral expression. ]"I'm more then happy to talk more about our people and Matteria. Whether you have specific questions or if you just want to have a casual conversation on the subject matter, I'll tell you quite a bit about your heritage. It's been awhile since I've been able to relax. Sometimes you just have to stop and take a moment to smell the roses."

about Jie Shan Lan Dian
"Quotes are a waste of time. Actions speak louder than words."

"I suppose my mother was far from the typical Elemi then," remarked Jie Shan, "If I ever see her again, I'll have to ask her about that. Though, she's not. . . fond of staying in one place for long, so she might be hard to track down. And maybe that is why she was loathe to talk about our people. But, of course, that is guesswork. Mother was always a touch on the mysterious side."
The topic of politics was always an interesting one to Jie Shan, despite his own loathing for bureaucracy and other political nonsense. Perhaps, he thought, it was like watching a car wreck in slow motion; morbid curiosity kept him from turning away. The crazed and murderous despots and conniving political snakes of the universe made for almost sickening entertainment at times; Jie Shan was glad to be out of politics, especially with recent events. No, he thought, he was much suited to being an outsider, changing the course of history with his blade, steering it and cutting it down when need be. Jie Shan preferred his problems to be direct, though his mind was more than capable of fathoming the gross and dirty depths of the political question.
But then Miss Cryonia spoke of a compromise. Jie Shan leaned even further in, listening closer to what she had to say about this suggestions of her's. What she revealed was interesting: the true political core of the Homeworld Reclamation Effort. Political power, as it turned out, was rare in the organization, with power only being extended to two groups, despite outward appearances. And somehow, this did not surprise Jie Shan, nor did it ease the feelings of doubt that he had about the Homeworld Reclamation Effort. Oligarchs, thought Jie Shan, rarely did anyone any sort of good. But these Favored interested Jie Shan. What were they? Special Agents? And to have the offer of such a title extended to him made him even more interested into what they were exactly. Errand boys, perhaps? Though it did sound as if they had a fair bit of leeway in their duties.
"The Favored, eh?" Muttered Jie Shan, "Sounds like they do a lot of the heavy lifting."
Jie Shan looked on interest as the girl produced a device: a holodisk, she called it. Jie Shan nodded as she explained. It sounded almost like a scouter to him, with its communicator capabilities. Though he supposed such technology was not exactly exclusive these days. And as she revealed its purpose, she revealed her purpose: she was going to be on Earth some time to work on projects. And she wanted Jie Shan to accompany her. So, thought Jie Shan, she needed a bodyguard. Just what kind of trouble was she planning on getting into, if any at all? Of course, it was sensible to be on guard on a strange world: Jie Shan had learned that much during his stint with the Alliance and his time in the field. Though Jie Shan was curious about these 'circumstances'. Jie Shan stared at the woman, trying to figure her out. But like before when she had covered her face, Jie Shan was left without a clue: she looked perfectly at ease as she arched back in her seat.
The girl knew how to appeal to Jie Shan, he would give her that much. The prospect was certainly tempting. Jie Shan had always been an adventurous, curious soul and the chance to try out this new path was plenty tempting, at least to get some small experience with the Homeworld Reclamation Effort. They were, after all, bound by some red string of blood.
The topic soon turned to elemental swordsmanship, and Jie Shan gave a tiny grin as she paid him a complement. And what she said was true: teaching people elemental techniques was no small matter, despite ki being able to form a viable substitute even for beings that did not have any affinity for elements. It was hard; such reactions were normally produced only in the case of extremely strong or skilled uses of ki; Jie Shan got by with some measure of ease due to his own affinity and a lifetime of elemental manipulation.
"You're right about that," said Jie Shan happily enough, "Elements are tricky, lightning doubly so. It takes a certain. . . mettle to manipulate the unbridled forces of lightning. I can understand why one might not take a liking to it."
And Jie Shan listened with interest as the lady explained her own pursuit of power: Elemi's lifespans grew with their power. Now that he had not known and it left him wondering if the same ringed true of himself, despite his mixed blood. It was certainly an interesting idea, to know or not if he would live beyond the years he thought he had. And he supposed there was only one way to find out: to continue living.
"An admirable goal, Miss Cryonia," remarked Jie Shan, "To live for your people."
"Well," said Jie Shan with a sigh, "I am still unsure whether or not I would be keen on throwing myself into this political arena of yours, but you do make an intriguing case, Miss. I'll tell you what: I will take you up on your offer of working with you while you are on Earth. I should like to spend some measure of time with you, if only to figure out exactly how I feel about this Homeworld Reclamation Effort. Curiosity has always been able to get the best of me, and you and this Homeworld Reclamation Effort are quite. . . curious."
"And as for relaxation," continued Jie Shan, "You are quite right. We do need to take time every now and again to relax and center ourselves. Perhaps we ought to speak casually on this sometime. My door is always open, so to speak."
And with that, Jie Shan leaned back in his seat. "So, Miss Cryonia," he said, grinning wide at her, "Where do you want to go from here?"
Cryonia gave Jie an amused smile at his statement. Oh, he had no idea how Elemi were like. Well, she was going to fix that. He was going to know quite a bit about his own race by the end of the day.
“There is no such thing as a typical Elemi Jie. We all have vastly different personalities. Which element we control is a reflection of what an Elemi is like. Users of the same element do share common traits. Fire users tend to be quick to anger for instance. but there are many different elements out there that can manifest as an Elemi’s ability. From the basic ones like Fire, Water, and electrical elements like your lightning manipulation, to more obscure ones like Xenon. The leader of the council can manipulate that particular element. Elemi personalities and philosophies vary differently as a result of our diverse nature. It’s a wonder Zenon managed to get 2,000 of us to work towards one cause. Elemi’s are typically free spirits, and your mother is no exception.”
Even though he had said it quietly, Cryonia heard the comment on the flavored. It looked like she was going to have to put his mind at ease during their talk together.
“Yes and no. Like I said before, Elemi have different philosophies and approach things in different ways. So different council members treat flavored in different ways. They're never mistreated of course. I can tell you what to expect being a flavored working under me. I wouldn’t make you do anything that I wouldn’t be willing to do myself. It’s just that I can’t be everywhere at once. I could have sent a representative to Earth and stayed in the relative safety of HOME, but that isn’t my way. It’s risky to travel when you’re in a high position in a society. There are those who would take advantage of it. But it would be disrespectful if I wasn’t willing to do things myself. Council members do their own share of heavy lifting Jie. Also keep in mind that Elemi could leave the HWRE whenever they want. We aren’t monsters who hunt down our own kind. We’re free spirits by nature after all, and life at the HWRE can be difficult sometimes. So we understand if someone wishes to leave.”
When Jie mentioned that he would accept her offer and tag along with her, a smile spread across Cryonia’s lips. She was glad that her words were getting through to someone. This was the most productive talk she had since coming to this planet.
“You’re too kind Jie. Take all the time you need to make up your mind. I have reason to suspect that I’ll be on Earth for awhile. There’s some extra business I need to take care of on this world in addition to the tasks I normally partake in. Of course, it doesn’t have to be business all the time. I’ve only just met you, and yet already I’m enjoying your company quite a bit. I’ll walk through the door you’re considerate enough to leave open from time to time. Don't let the decision stress you out either. I'm not going to try and pressure you into doing something you don't want to do. Especially since you've seemed to have bad experiences involving politics in the past.”
Cryonia stood up, her hand sliding down to her hip. Unlike the other times she had smiled, her face didn’t return to its normal stoic expression. The ice Elemi was in a noticeably good mood, a small smile on her face.
“I’ll go over the basic things on my agenda with you. Generally I try to spread awareness of our situation in a peaceful manner. I intend to gain an audience with the monarch and Kami of Earth to discuss certain issues. This planet is a bit unusual in terms of its hierarchy, which is part of the reason my stay here will be longer than it normally would be. I intend to continue my primary research product here. Also like yourself, my curiosity tends to get the best of me. So you’ll likely find yourself tagging along with me as I attempt to satisfy it. I’m also interested in these lighting arts of yours. One of my long running research projects has been Universal Elemental Theory. If I could learn how to control lighting, then there’s a good chance that one day I could raise it to the level of proficiency that I can use ice. Being able to control what kind of element you can manipulate freely gives you almost limitless possibilities. We’re going to do quite a bit together. I look forward working with you, Jie.”
Cryonia was glad that she was going to have some interesting company. Things had been getting rather lonely for her. It was nice to talk to someone who was a fellow Elemi, understood what she was saying, and was willing to help her out a bit. Plus, she was eager to learn more about his lighting arts. Cryonia wasn’t as fond of battling as other Elemi were, but she was fascinated by fighting techniques and special abilities. Plus, she did need to get stronger, and Jie would be an excellent teacher.

Jie Shan paused a moment, placing a finger to his lips. Quite the lesson on Elemi, he thought. It seemed as if this Cryonia was set on shattering all his expectations about what the Elemi actually were like. Not that his expectations were particularly solid or well ingrained; the Elemi might as well have been strangers to the young hybrid who shared their blood with him. Having had no true home and no true cultural experience save for that of the stalwart Saiyan race and their tendency to follow a sort of uniformity as far as personality, the hybrid could almost be forgiven for making such assumptions about the Elemi race.
Jie Shan certainly forgave himself.
"I see," he said with a nod, conceding the point to Miss Cryonia, "It certainly seems that our people are quite the varied race then. I had no clue that we came in such an assortment of. . . flavors, if you will. I knew well enough that we commanded a wide variety of them, such as my own lightning, but I did not realize the depth and breadth of these variations. I suppose my own mother's free spirit is not so odd now, with this enlightenment."
And now the women expounded upon the nature of the Favored, the Council, and the myriad members and approaches the Homeworld Reclamation Effort took when it came to action. It echoed her earlier explanation, and Jie Shan nodded with faux interest while wishing he had not said anything at all as the girl speak.
"I think I understand, Miss Cyronia," he stated, "My apologies for speaking so. . . brashly and without knowledge. The Homeworld Reclamation Effort sounds like a very fine group, then, and I hope that they can continue to maintain that measure of integrity as they work towards their goal."
Because, thought the hybrid, the forces that be knew well enough that integrity was hard enough to come by in this world. Jie Shan knew that truth well enough and he had accepted it long ago, though with some bitterness. Just as Cryonia had guessed, there was a measure of bad experience with politics; though the hybrid had never really been keen on it.
Jie Shan gave a small chuckle, an airy breath of laughter.
"It certainly does not have to be all business, no. You don't make unpleasant company, that's for sure. It would be. . . a pleasure, to continue speaking like this," he remarked, with a cocksure grin, "A good deal more pleasant than political talk, that is for sure. I am weary of that, yes, though I cannot help but notice how such things continue to fall into my lap."
Jie Shan ran a hand through his hair.
"Though perhaps it makes for pleasant surprises," he added, "Either way, I'll be sure to give you an answer eventually. I would hate to keep a lady waiting for to long."
"Especially one as ambitious as you," he continued, "Political dealings and scientific research? Quite the checklist you have there. Though I would be happy to assist however I can."WC: 512

It looked as though Jie was beginning to understand the Elemi culture. That didn’t surprise Cryonia too much. Jie was a very sharp fellow, so she expected him to catch onto things really quickly. What surprised her was the apology that came after that though. Cryonia wasn’t used to dealing with foreigners that were this polite. It was refreshing to say the least.
“It’s not your fault. You weren't raised the way I was, so there are many gaps in your knowledge. The fault is mine for not being considerate of that. We are a diverse grou who help contribute to our cause in our own ways. That is our nature as Elemi.”
Cryonia gave him a bemused expression when he commented on how he was enjoying the time he was having with her. Granted it was pleasant for her too, but the thing he said at the end confused her.
“The feeling is mutual. Although speaking of other subject matters, what do you mean when you say that things keep falling into your lap? Positions of responsibility and power are usually earned, unless if you’re born into it. Are you referring to significant positions in politics, or something else?”
Cryonia gave Jie a small smile at the complements. It felt good to get those from the efforts themselves, and not the results her efforts gave. It felt a bit more shallow to her if it was just complimenting her talents specifically, and not the effort she put into things.
“This is a surprise. I thought chivalry died centuries ago on this planet. You’re just full of compliments. Like I said before, how much you want to do is up to you. Any and all help is appreciated of course. Although the HRWE doesn’t have specific quotas for how much help you have to give, even to its members. Even my fellow Council members have different ways of handling things. Some more effective than others. You seem to be a proactive individual though, so I’m sure your help would be a significant contribution.”
Cryonia stood there, the time flying by as she talked with the Saiyan-Elemi hybrid. She was focusing so much on the conversation that everything else was just flying by. This was the most promising potential that she had come across in a long time. And this individual was also fun to converse with. She didn’t expect to get this lucky, but she wasn’t complaining about how things were turning out.
