about Jie Shan Lan Dian
"Quotes are a waste of time. Actions speak louder than words."
Jie Shan Lan Dian journeyed to the east. Once again, the Saiyan halfblood made for that magical Lookout that floated about the Earth. The place was. . . intriguing, to say the least. How much time had Jie Shan spent there as of late, even being called there? It was hard to say what drew Jie Shan to those sacred grounds. The vision of the sky framed palace had stayed with Jie Shan ever since Nasu had made Jie Shan partake in combat training in a holographic projection of the Lookout; a pleasant dream compared to the theaters normally presented by his mindscape.
So, Jie Shan found himself rushing through the air to the Lookout again. He had once said he wanted to spend more time there, to help out around the Lookout and take on some of its duties, to make himself useful, and that is how he found himself barreling in air towards the Lookout once again. The flight was short lived; it did not take long for Jie Shan to make the increasingly familiar trip to the Lookout. First he had followed Cleo, then Galen, then Arion. . . the path was becoming ingrained into his mind, like a well used map.
It was a moment later that Jie Shan was above the Lookout. He looked down at it and frowned. So much had happened here already; was this common for the place? If so, Jie Shan had best get used to it if he really did intend on spending more time at the magical palace. He just hoped the pleasantries were more common than the atrocities.
He touched down on the Lookout and felt out with his mind, the ki tendrils working around until it found a familiar feeling: Galen.
"Hey, Galen," he thought, using his skills in telepathy to reach out to the boy, "You around? I was hoping I could help out or something, maybe get to know the place."

Galen had much to think through after his last sparring session with Jie Shan. He was utterly defeated by an amazing technique that managed to change the natural flow of his own attack, sending it right back at Galen, but that wasn’t what was upsetting him the most; he was upset with the fact that he was completely mad with his newly unlocked form. In a way it was amazing that he managed to attain a way to match a super saiyan in battle, but was the cost of it too steep? He wasn’t sure yet, but it was enough to make him quite reticent about using that form again. If he was willing to severely hurt a friend, he couldn’t begin to understand what he would be willing to do against an enemy and, even though Galen was certain he wanted to protect the world, he didn’t want to become a blind killer with no regard to people’s lives.
That just wasn’t him.
But one thing changed, though. Ever since he unlocked his Super High Tension, controlling his emotions during his High Tension state became much easier, to the point he was now only a tad bit more serious when transformed, instead of constantly angry to the point of boiling. That gave him hope that, with due time, he would be able to properly control his stronger transformation and make it more useful on his combats; perhaps he could even match Cornatto’s Super Saiyan form with his Super High Tension, and that would make his Turtle School training a lot more interesting.
In any case, his meditation was cut short when Jie’s voice touched his mind. Galen opened his dark eyes in surprise, a bit astonished by the sudden invasion of his brains, but he didn’t mind that, it was just unexpected. ”Oh?! Mister Jie?” he rhetorically asked. ”Uhn… I’m at Korin’s Tower down here… I take you are on the Lookout, am I right?” he asked while getting up from his sitting position. ”I will be there in a sec.” he said, making a brief nod to no one in particular.
Then, he flared his light blue ki aura around his body and took the skies, heading straight to the mystical place the Timeless Lookout was. In a matter of seconds Galen arrived, landing on the titled floor there, standing now close to his friend. He cracked a gentle smile on his face and chuckled a bit. ”Hey there!” he greeted Jie Shan with a kind tone.

It did not take long before Jie Shan could feel that familiar Earthling ki burning towards like and it did not take nearly any time more before Jie Shan could peer over the side of the Lookout and see that Galen was coming towards Jie Shan, burning bright like a blue bullet. The yong hybrid had to grin; the Earthling swordsman always had plenty of enthusiasm to go around; it was truly boundless. Enthusiasm, thought Jie Shan, and plenty of will power to go along with it. The man had a sparking soul, a proper hero's spirit. No wonder that the boy had taken up residence at the Lookout, headquarters of heroes!
As the man landed and gave his greeting, Jie Shan raised a hand in greeting before offering the boy a deep bow of respect. Few could say they had earned that from Jie Shan, but the Earthling proved to be one of the most genuinely good people that the Saiyan-Elemi warrior had ever met. Even if the whole overly polite thing picked at Jie Shan's nerves at time, he could not fault the boy nor allow any measure of dislike for him because of it: it was all born from such a genuine place.
"Galen!" He exclaimed, "Good to see you again!"
He crossed to the boy and stood up beside him. "I see you're doing pretty good after our last spar," he said happily, "Though it really did a number on you. Still, some of the stuff you pulled was downright amazing and I don't know how you did it."
It was true. Jie Shan had been taken entirely by surprise by the boy's performance during their spar. It was truly the stuff of warriors, even comparable to that of legendary Saiyan power. It almost made Jie Shan jealous.
"So," he continued, "I hope I'm not stepping on any toes or anything, but I was wondering if you guys needed any help around here. I wanna do my part, you know? Help contribute to the continued safety of Earth and everything."
Galen scratched the back of his head, a bit embarrassed by the compliment; truth be told, he wasn’t very with the outcome of his new transformation, but etiquette said he should just show gratitude towards the compliment. ”I’ve been working hard, but you were the truly amazing one. That technique to reverse the flow of the energy was absolutely otherworldly! I was never expecting that!” he admitted, chuckling a bit as he remembered how his Raging Flash was thrown back at him in a stunt that seemed effortless on Jie Shan’s side, thus further embarrassing him.
Then, he asked if they were in need of help and that made him stop. His expression became more neutral and he blinked twice before touching his chin and looking upwards in a thoughtful expression. ”Hmmm… That’s a pretty good question, truth be told. I mean, Master Arion is gone again and he never told me where to and Cleo… Well… I can only think that Cleo went with him… So, for now, it’s just me around these parts and, while it’s not hard, I feel very unease without the Guardian or the assistant up here.” he said, before staring back at Jie Shan with a more serious expression. ”I don’t know what is going on in this world… Or better, in this universe, but I feel this tranquility is not going to last for long. So… Yeah, I think we could use help, but I’m not yet sure what kind of help we need exactly.” he shrugged, shaking his head.

"Heh," said Jie Shan, "It was nothing. Just a little technique I invented. Though, it's plenty dangerous. You're taking in hostile ki, after all, so you can hurt yourself pretty badly if you misjudge it or make some kind of error during."
Jie Shan listened to Galen explain the current situation on the Lookout: Arion and Cleopatra were missing. Jie Shan knew that much about Cleopatra: the Saiyan hybrid had not seen the girl for months. Which was disappointing, because the girl had started to grow on the Super Saiyan warrior, almost like an annoying little sister. But that was life. People came and went, and Jie Shan was plenty used to people walking out of his life like it were nothing.
It did not hurt anymore. Not really.
What surprised him more was the mention of Arion being missing: the Namekian had seemed awfully dedicated to his work when Jie Shan had met him the first and only time. He seemed a good sort and of decent character. But hey, it was hard to judge a book by its cover and even then, Jie Shan was not comfortable passing judgement on the wayward Namek. After all, Jie Shan did not know the circumstances of his absence. Perhaps there were pressing matters elsewhere? After all, the man had been missing up here during Jie Shan's meeting with Flare. . .
"That's a shame," muttered Jie Shan, "The Lookout seems like it's the line of defense for Earth; it needs people up here, at least in my opinion. I dunno, maybe I could watch the place until Arion or Cleo show back up. I would hate to see this place without a guardian, you know?
He definitely wanted to have a more in depth conversation about that technique, despite the risks involved in it; the technique was most definitely something absolutely handy to have in your arsenal and Galen was willing to add it, should Jie Shan be interested in actually teaching him. However, at the current moment there were far more important matters at hand regarding the situation of the Timeless Lookout. The Tower Keeper sighed deeply and nodded acknowledging what his friend had just said. ”Indeed it is the line of defense and yes, it’s awful that it’s empty now and, in all honesty, I have too much on my plate watching over this land below and the Karinga tribe, all the while nourishing the senzu beans.” he said, scratching the back of his head.
”I don’t mean to complain. Not at all, but there’s a reason we need a Tower keeper, an assistant and a Kami.” he added. ”And, with that being said, if you are willing to take up such a huge burden over your shoulders, I wouldn’t be against it. You just need to be entirely aware about its implications.”Galen said, staring right into Jie Shan’s eyes. The human liked the idea of having his friend stepping onto Arion’s shoes, even if it was to be temporary, but he should know what it would imply.

That much was true. Galen did have an incredible amount of responsibility already. Those beans would not grow themselves, and that was a vital task. Those little things, thought Jie Shan, were worth a lifetime of work on their own. And top that duty off with apparently being the effective steward of the lands below, Galen was looking at a packed schedule already. For a magical land on a backwater planet, this place sure was high maintenance. Somehow, Jie Shan thought he did not even begin to understand how complex this whole Lookout business really was; Galen had never really expounded about it and the silver haired hybrid had not deigned to ask Arion or any of the other Kami-affiliated individuals how things worked.
"Right," he muttered, "I understand, Galen, you have your hands full. That's why I want to help."
And Galen continued to explain about the trio that managed this place: Kami, their assistant, and the Towerkeeper. And it seemed as if only one of the three were actually working on the Lookout at the moment: the one and only Galen, magic bean master. But it seemed as if Galen would welcome the help, should Jie Shan be willing.
And the hybrid was willing.
"Galen," he said solemnly, "Earth is my home now. I want to help defend and care for this place. Any burden is worth bearing if it means I can do right by this place."
Jie Shan nodded to himself; yes, he very much wanted to do this. It was the best thing to do and the right thing to do, and Jie Shan would be wrong to sit idle when there were duties that needed doing.
"Tell me what I need to know and do," he continued, "And I will do it, Galen, because I want to do this."
Galen sighed deeply and closed his eyes for a moment. After this short pause he opened them again and stared right into Jie’s dark eyes. ”I don’t think you fathom how much responsibility you will be placing upon your shoulders just yet, Mister Jie and, with all due respect, I think you should properly think this through.” he said, sighing briefly. ”You are a powerful saiyan warrior who was member of a strong faction and held an important position. You have servants even though you are long gone from your position, meaning people still believe in your leadership.” he said, pausing for a moment. ”But why do they still follow you? Should you become the Guardian, will that interfere with the loyalty they placed upon you? Would that mean you are going against their expectations? I’m telling you this because…” he sighed yet again and stared at the world beneath them.
”The Guardian of the Planet is the utmost authority over the Earth and, with such a position, you will have to place the best interests of this planet above your own, no matter how much conflict it may bring. Choosing such a path was easy for me. I’m a former farmer, a lone swordsman, a nobody with almost no family save for my sister in East City, who lives a normal human life, no title to my name, no goal. I was a boat adrift in the endless ocean and this Tower became my island and I’m happy this island has water and coconut to feed me. I don’t desire much.” he shrugged, being completely blunt and honest about his own life. ”I have no goal other than protecting this planet and if I could do it with my current power, I wouldn’t bother to train much, but I know I’m far from being a true protector. I’m saying that because you will need to cast away everything you are up until now, all your goals, your pride, your titles to become an entity, and ideal, the name people shout in tears when they are suffering alone, when they are struck by sickness and you will have to look into your own judgment to know which prays to attend and which prays to ignore.” Galen took a very deep breath.
”I don’t have nearly as many responsibilities because, other than the Karinga Tribe these lands, everything else is beyond my jurisdiction. And, again, I came from nothing, I gave up nothing. And it’s still not that easy.” he warned his friend once again. ”That’s why I’m telling you to think this through and if after that you still think you want this. You have my sword.” he smiled with sincerity.

Galen had a lot to say about the nature of Kami. And perhaps it was true; Jie Shan did not quite understand what he was getting into by volunteering himself for such work. It was true, Jie Shan was a Saiyan warrior who had held significant power in the past and still had the loyalty of many other individual Saiyans and now even an Earthling too. The Earthling posed an interesting question: if he did become Kami, what would become on his Saiyan companions? How would they react? Even now, Jie Shan could feel himself driftign away from the Saiyan culture, the Saiyan race in favor of his new life and home here on Earth. If it meant parting ways with his old friends- his old family- would that be worth it? Was his new home worth his old life, if it came to that? The Saiyans were the people who made him who he was today. . .
As Galen relayed his own story, it became increasingly obvious that the two swordsmen were from completely different world. Jie Shan had often felt as if he had had no purpose, adrift as if in an ocean. But Galen? Galen truly drove the feeling home. Whereas others had always pulled Jie Shan ashore, the Earthling had had to drift.
It was a lot to think about. The weight of Kami was suddenly very real to Jie Shan, like weighted armor that he had once bared long ago. Jie Shan would become a symbol for the Earthlings, whether they knew it or not, one that they relied on. . . Was Jie Shan ready to take on something like that? The thought buzzed around his mind, flying madly from place to place as he considered all angles about it. Natto, Earth, his friends and family, his past, his demons, his sins, his mistakes, his purpose, his feelings. . . Everything seemed so out of line. But Jie Shan thought he had found an answer.
"Galen," he said, "You've given me a lot to think about. You're right, I'm not exactly a clean slate. But Earth has become my home. Even if it means throwing away my past and putting this world above myself, I want to do it. Because this place has given me something I have never had before: a real home. I've never really had that before, but now that I'm here? It means the world to me, and I am ready to lay my life down in service to it."
"I am not the perfect candidate, I will admit that," he said, "And it seems like a lot of responsibility, and you're right, I probably don't understand it all, but I don't think I will until I try! So, if you're willing to stand by me, Galen, know that I really want to do this and my mind cannot be changed. I want to help my home."

Jie had a lot to think about and Galen nodded when he voiced that, but still he wanted to do it and that made an honest smile to appear on the human’s face and he nodded once again. ”I’m glad to hear that, Mister Jie.” he said. ”And you can count on me. I will be your sword and shield, as it’s my duty as the Keeper of Korin’s Tower. Go to the Lookout when you are ready and I will be there to welcome you.” he said, chuckling a bit, feeling genuinely happy he would have a friend stepping into Arion’s shoes.
