Everything had turned dark for a while. The Turtle Hermit couldn’t even tell himself what was going on since he wasn’t quite there with his mind or body? Well, the soul wasn’t on Earth any longer, that was for sure.
As soon as he finally felt like someone knocked back into place and he could finally see once more. At first, he was dumbstruck, not capable of thinking straight until he got to look around and realize that he was no longer on Earth.
“Uh. Man, am I just having the strangest dream ever or what?”
Cornatto’s thoughts were barely in a straight line until he finally recollected what had happened; he had died. He couldn’t quite believe it himself, but when he got to look around, it sure looked way too unusual to be either Earth or any other planet in the Galaxy. What were even all those clouds floating in front of him? There was a long line, but thankful enough, it was clearing quick enough.
“What are all these clouds, though…”
Soon enough, though, his gaze fell to check himself out as if he had a physical body, he’d probably look like he was freaking out but he couldn’t.
Though, that was more or less what he did as soon as half of his ‘cloud’ body leaned backward and straight upwards, scared to the death. He almost wanted to scream before he just realized that every single one of those was dead people.
“Eeehh?! Damn. They are honest when they say rest in peace; you could never fight with a body like this!”
The cloud-- technically ‘sighed,' although he just decided to remain calm and do with the line. “At least I hope Karota and Kabocha are fine. It’s not like I can do anything else like this. I hope I can find Natto if he’s around here, but man, if he’s become a cloud like me, then it’s gonna be difficult to find anyone,” - he paused his trail of thought, as soon as he noticed that he was next in the line.
“Yo! I am Cornatto. Uh… So yeah, what do I have to do?”

The great ogress waved a soul on through, the little cloud spirit departing to some Afterlife or another. Sweat beaded at her brow- the ogre queen had been worked nonstop lately, her fingers feeling sore to the bone with the near constant slamming of gavels and flipping of pages. Suddenly, another soul came before her, stepping up to its place in line and introduced itself as one Cornatto.
A flash of recognition went through her eyes, the dark orbs set in strained red opening a bit wider.
"Ah," muttered Queen Aka, "Kamesennin. The Super Saiyan Turtle Warrior of Earth."
She nodded to herself, flipping through the pages of her little book of souls, a single, giant red finger landing on the Saiyanjin warrior's name.
"Cornatto, Cornatto," she sang to herself, "I can't say I was expecting you so soon. I know Dad judged a lot of people from your time, but. . . You're still a spring chicken by Saiyan standards, and your peers back from those days are all mostly still alive. . . But that's life! And death, apparently!"
The ogre queen chuckled to herself before settling back into her chair.
"Jokes aside," she continued, "It is an honor, Kamesennin. According to our records, you've lived quite the virtous life. And your death?"
She paused a moment, frowning deeply and sincerely.
"My condolences to your daughter," she said sadly, "I know what it is like to lose a father. Though I am sure she is happy her father died as he lived: a hero. Even in your younger years, you were quite dashing. Earth is lucky to claim someone like you as one of its own."
Aka smiled now, grin wide.
"Normally," she continued, "I would have no trouble admitting someone like yourself into Heaven. Do not worry, you're still bound for the upper realms, but there's a twist that I think would be befitting of someone like yourself. A reward for a heroic warrior."
Queen Aka slammed her gavel and suddenly, Cornatto's body would materialize. Nodding with approval, she pointed her gavel towards a large door in the side of the building.
"So, Cornatto," said Aka, "should you accept the honor, you are invited to train with King Kai, one of the great martial minds of the Upper Worlds. Of course, you'll have to run the Snake Way, but. . . Well, let's just say it would be well worth it for a warrior like yourself."
Aka smiled widely and awaited the fallen hero's response.

As soon as the soul floated forward, nearby the giant desk that was located right in front of the line, it stayed still and did nothing but stare at the figure that sat on its large chair. “She’s so tall! Man, I think the last time I saw someone that tall was when a Namekian transformed into a Giant,“ - he thought to himself as he noticed that she had recognized the name. Cornatto didn’t have eyes at the moment so that no one could tell, but his eyes were admittedly supposed to be wide open as he was left rather amused; did that just mean that they knew about him in the Afterlife?
Last time he checked, no one he knew recently had died, so it couldn’t be someone else’s doing that Cornatto’s identity would be known to someone in the Afterlife. Or was it true that people from the otherworld could watch over others? Soon enough, the ogress mentioned both a record and apparently her dad used to judge people back in the days of Cornatto’s youth. He didn’t know about any of it, to be honest, he had never died before.
“Huh. Well, yeah. I guess some of my peers are still alive, a few of them died long ago. I don’t even know if they’re supposed to be around here, but, hey. Honor is mine! I take it you judge the souls here, right? That’s gotta be some busy task!”
Shortly after, the spirit stayed silent as Cornatto grew a slight hint of sadness and concern over his daughter. He had left her alone on the battlefield, he trusted her but was also afraid that she’d get targeted. Although, he admitted that the ogress’ comments were enough for him to smile to himself. “Haha, thank you! I just did what felt right,” - he paused as he let her speak and admittedly got curious as soon as Aka mentioned this ‘twist.' “Twist? What’s that?”
Soon enough, Cornatto felt as if a light embodied him and extended outwards. In mere moments, he felt just like he did a few moments before death; Corn had a body and his blank, confused expression soon cheered into one of happiness as he looked at his hands. “Hehe, much better!”
The Turtle Hermit raised an eyebrow before his expression was taken over by excitement. “One of the great martial minds?” - he repeated as he clenched both fists and grinned. “Man, that sounds exciting! Haha, sure! I take up your offer. I want to meet this Kaio-sama now,” - he replied before he made his way to the door the Queen had pointed out earlier before he halted and turned back, giving a quick bow of his head. “Thank you again, Aka-joo!”
Those were the man’s last words at the Check-in Station before he left for the Snake Way.
