Canidites
Home World: Free Space
Home World: Free Space
Starting Power: 3200
Appearance: The Canidite race is rather bestial in appearance. They take the form of anthropomorphic canidae creatures. This means they are modeled after animals like wolves, foxes, various breeds of domestic dog, and so forth. Though they are humanoid, they still exhibit many canid features, such as tails and dog-like ears. The eyes of a Canidite often display animal qualities as well.
The Canidite body is often covered in fur that can come in a variety of shades and patterns, however subraces of Canidites exist that have very short or no fur. The Canidite body tends to be naturally inclined towards a fit physique, though again, variations exist. The Canidites display slight sexual dimorphism, much like the other humanoid races of the universe. Males and females tend to run at roughly the same size, despite a few physical difference.
The Canidite manner of dress is directly inspired by their own culture. Though they have taken up much of the common fashion in the universe, they often like to show bare parts of their body in an effort to display physical grace. Common areas of display include biceps and the abdomen.
Hybrids of this race exist. Like most humanoids, Canidites are genetically compatible with the universe at large. Hybrids of this race tend to display animal qualities, though the exact degree of which can vary depending on the hybrid's unique genetic make-up. Some display the fur of their Canidite parent, while others might only display a tail or some other minute feature.
Background: The Candites are a warrior race who hail from the planet of Cani. The Canidites are a warrior race, having spent millennia warring amongst themselves. However, in recent centuries, they have become a relatively united race and joined the universal community. Since then, they have displayed particular aptitude for soldiering among the other races of the universe. Many naturally take to be mercenaries or wandering warriors. Violent tendencies often bring them into conflict around the universe.
The Canidite warrior culture might appear almost barbaric to an outsider, at least as first glance. They are far from barbarians, however. Not only do they enjoy all the trappings of modern technology, they also have a proud artistic tradition. Of course, most of their artistic works focus on battle, but they are fine statues, paintings, and stories. Many Canidites will explain this as proper reverence for the warriors of the past, a sort of pseudo-ancestor worship.
Strength dominates Canidite society. They are egalitarian and both male and female children are taught to fight from an early age. Thousands of years of martial turmoil has led to a unique melting pot of martial arts; though there is no official record, it is said dozens of codified fighting styles exist with hundreds more of less recorded styles that exist only in tradition and are passed down generation to generation. The Canidite are ruled by a single despotic monarch, often the strongest among them. However, the last monarch, Queen Garlick, has recently died and no one has stepped up to the throne yet, though it is a source of constant fighting as the great warriors work towards dominance.
Despite this inherent violence, there is some measure of honor. Canidites respect their betters, though they plot to surpass them. Children are generally considered off-limits for violence, unless the child decides to prove their adulthood early and challenge another in combat. They are a clannish people, with a heavy emphasis on family. The family is considered the most important thing and are often the first allies one has in battle. Hybrids are included in this tight-knit family structure, though some doubt their strength due to blood impurity.
Unique Characteristics:
Martial Tradition: The Canidites have thousands of years worth of martial experience under their belt and knowledge is passed onto the next generation. Canidite characters begin play with two additional techniques that can be applied to any category of technique they wish and in any combination. Hybrids gain one extra technique. At level 3 they gain an extra technique and at level 5 they gain another extra technique!
Berserker Brew: The Canidite's have developed various concoctions to boost their combat prowess. For 1,000 zeni, a Canidite may purchase a unique consumable, like that of a healing capsule, referred to as Berserker Brew. The tonic reacts to Canidite physiology and temporarily boosts their power. This manifests as an additional +x1/+x1 that last for five turns. Only one Brew may be used per thread. Canidite hybrids may use this item. At Level 3 they can purchase a stronger brew which manifests as an additional +2x/+2x that lasts for five turns. At Level 5 it becomes a +3x/+3x.
The Pack: Canidite society heavily emphasizes the bond of battle between family members. Canidite characters enjoy a 10% discount on Combat-Enabled NPCs and Allies who are both Canidite and written as part of their family.
Hunters: Canidites are valued hunters, and as such their presence is undetectable by Ki Sensing (for they possess an innate ability to mask their ki). However scouters can still detect them.
Transformations:
Running Wild: Canidites are able to tap into some measure of hidden power. In the case of this transformation, it occurs when the Candite is forced into a desperate struggle. When the transformation actually happens, something within them snaps. Their power increases several times over and their aura flares. It is as if they are sent into an bestial. Those who reach a certain level of strength, however, will find themselves able to control this power. [Uncontrollable until 20k] [x4]
Beast Titan: The next step of power for the Canidites. By now, the Candidite's power and battle experience has left them with incredible awareness and control of their own body. They are able to increase their physical stature, and spiritual power, to incredible heights. In this form, the Canidite can experience vertical growth, massive muscle growth, a mixture of the two, and other physical mutations. [Requires [PT-1] Bulking and 80k+] [x10]
Bestial Awakening: The Canidite who reaches a certain level of strength and control of themselves will find themselves ascended to a new plateau of power. This form represents a new level of spiritual power and does not necessarily result in physical mutations, though those Canidites that find themselves particularly adept or in-tune with their previous forms might still experience them. Regardless, the Canidite's aura crackles with power and exerts a certain pressure. [Requires 180k+] [x22]
Bestial Soul: After reaching a certain level of power, a change occurs in the physiology of the Canidite, one that remains dormant until the Canidite's body undergoes some trauma that awakens the power within. Upon taking critical damage of some sort, the body lashes out and unleashes a terrifying amount of power. The very air seems to tremble and the Canidite can now fight on par with many of the universe's strongest. The exact physical occurrences vary, perhaps arising uniquely as the trauma that triggers the change. [Requires the Canidite to take critical damage. The Canidite need not survive or die, so long as the damage is significant. Requires 300k+] [x36]
Wild Monarch: The capstone of Canidite power. Only obtainable after the Canidite reaches a significant level of mastery over themselves and their own ki. When ascending to this form, it is said entire worlds shakes beneath the awesome power of the Canidite. So great is the mastery of the Canidite, it believed that they have significant control over their physical appearance. One thing is certain: their power is among the greatest in the universe. [Requires 400k+.] [x47]
