Clanging.
Over and over, the sounds of it continued on, as a mass of gray repeatedly crashed into the gate that blocked their way out. All the growling and stomping that came when it didn't work, made her own arms shudder, the pit of her stomach clenching down, and reminding her of the pain that they had suffered.
How long had it been since they had eaten, what was forbidden to them, this time? Trying to think about it, only seemed to make the pain grew, and she found herself moving, as if it would really help distract from the pains of hunger. Her own footsteps were loud, enough to awake some of the others.
Weak, but unable to stop themselves from trying to attack her. Only one of her shaking arms had to lift up to make them fly away from her, the sounds of their bodies crashing, bringing out a growl from her. A warning. Whether it listened or not, it didn't matter. For the slightest of seconds, it felt like her hunger was gone, only to return again. The clanging still didn't stop, and she moved even closer to the source of it. Still no attention to her.
Running into the fence like that, in the hopes to get out. This one was still new. They were going to be here for as long as that girl had came. Wouldn't get to eat until she had came. Closer and closer, she found her fingers touching the fence. Not a single dent into it. That one might have been weak, but he should have been able to do at least that. She should have been able to. The metal was cold, and pressed into skin, but she couldn't feel the pain.
It was a weird feeling, but that thought had passed as her eyes looked over to the one causing the clanging. Her fingers continued to hold onto the fenced gate, shaking with the crashes. How long would it be before she killed this one? Swelled purple bruises were already forming all over its body. It couldn’t feel the pain either, and like the rest of the others who died, only bits and pieces would be left over, crushed under the weight of their own feet.
Her grip on the gated fence had lightened, as her fingers had let go, her eyes turning to the one who kept trying to break free. Its mind was so shattered, it still didn’t notice her push it back, until she had sent it flying across the cave. The light snap of its back, was quickly covered by her own roar, which strength came directly from the center of her chest. She started to walk over as it recovered, being hissed at for her body moving on instinct.
But they were really all just working off of their feeling. Sometimes moving like this had brought images through her head. Memories of a time before she had became this way, and the face of a smiling girl waving her goodbye. There was always a feeling of disbelief, and then anger. But it never really lasted. In the end, and as she was now, she felt lost and pained, hoping she could somehow be relieved of it, if she had just kept going.
Her grip on this one was as shaky as trying to grab any of the others. It felt like she hadn’t eaten in so long, but still, it couldn’t escape from her. She had been here the longest, and if they weren’t going to be let out to feed, then these others would be her food.
The flesh of their kind, rotten as it looked, still filled the pit of her stomach. Wiped away the pain for a little while. A loud clack echoed in her ears, as she slammed it against stone walls, over and over. The sound started to grow deafening, and the only thing she could think about, as she watched the walls be covered in specks of red, and this one move less and less. The weight of it in her hands had still felt so strong, but their kind tended to be heavy, even if they hadn’t eaten in so long. She didn’t understand it, but didn’t care enough at the moment to continue wondering why either.
This one had tried so hard to be free, and she wanted that feeling.
”Oh mighty earth, show me your chaotic power!”
For a short instant, her vision had grown dark, and she felt her body be slammed into the wall she had been using. Her grip was still tight, but she could feel it loosening as her vision repeatedly went dark in a number of seconds. There was still no pain stronger than the one clenching onto her gut, but her body understood what was going on. She was being attacked, and the ground shaking underneath her, kept her from moving anywhere.
The hits had started to grow weaker, as she began to let go of the body she held, stopping from fighting against this force attacking her. Its voice was familiar, but her mind couldn’t put together where. She was so hungry for flesh, and the pain for it just wouldn’t stop. Her body on the cold floor, and eyes staring up at the roof of the cave, had her realize how hard it was to move. Had she really taken that many hits? It didn’t feel all that long at all.
”Oh blinding blue skies, lend me your light!”
A flash of light, and her vision had changed again. It wasn’t darkness, but the sight around her was just nothing. They had blinded her. She could still lightly feel her body though, and it slid across the cave, her vision remaining this way, as she let out weak roars. Her mind still couldn’t make sense of who this was. She only knew that she wasn’t likely to die. She might have been hurt, but her body was strong. It’d take a lot to be killed.
"Ssergorp taerg s'ti ,uhuhuh tuB ?ay t'nera ,syawla ekil lufdnah A."
That voice was so muffled, she didn't understand the words. Her vision didn't get any clearer, and her body was still being dragged around. How long was this going to last? Darkness surrounded her as her eyes closed, stopping her fight against trying to see. Her wounds still hadn't healed yet either.
"Niaga yromem rouy no gnikrow eb ll'eW. Yadot tnereffid oot eb lliw gnihtoN."
The moment it felt like they had stopped, it became so obvious that they were outside, and one of the things she had been ignoring, was the crunch of snow. Outside. Away from the cave, too. If she could move, she could run and feed. There was more movement in her arm, but still not enough to leave.
Hope no longer existed for her. There came relief in ridding herself of the pains that came with hunger, for only a short while, but what use was it after? It would be back, and quick. Nothing was ever enough like it used to be. Her thoughts always went back to the taste, and how much more she could have.
"Iram. Can uoy reah me? Iram."
Her face was cupped, the hand bringing what little warmth there was to it. Though her eyes still remained closed, and her body still too weak to move, as she was let go of. Loud crunching sounds pressed into the snow, and what she could feel of the voice had started to get further and further away.
However long she had laid there, it had been long enough for feeling to return in her body, but not fast enough to leave before that girl had returned. The crunching sounds in the snow said that something was being dragged, and as the world around her came back, she found the source had been a dead bison.
Flesh. Bits and pieces of images went through her head, and she knew that it was different from eating that of a human. Looking at the one carrying it, and seeing that orange hair, she had also knew she had seen this girl. Her muscles had made the slightest shifts in movement as she tried to give up, an action that had the girl raising her eyes. It only took an instant for her to get back up on her feet again, the girl moving back, as she had roared.
"Mari! Your name is Mari!"
M a r i. It was familiar, but did nothing more but make a few more images appeared through her head. Another girl she seemed to know. She moved again, lunging not at the girl who attacked her, but at the snow bison. Her sharp maws had dug into the meat and fur, easily swallow piece and piece whole.
A sigh had came from behind her, but it didn't matter. She didn't feel like she was a threat, and the pain that kept clenching within her stomach was going away at the moment. This flesh in front of her, it would last long enough for her wounds to heal. Then she'd flee, and be away from that cave.
"Yeesh, made me think you were going to get me there."
The girl had stepped around so that she was within her vision, crouching over a little, and watching her consume her meal. That soft skin she was seeing, would have been much better, but it wasn't going to happen. She could get attacked again. But what did this one even want with her? Why bring food?
The stare she was given was silent, a nod added here and there, as her body was looked at. She could feel it, but as she ate, the feeling had only grew less and less. The bones she ate were spat out, while the rest was swallowed, her feeding quick and in large amounts. She didn't notice the girl had gotten up until she had been done, a smile now on this one's face, instead of what she saw before. What was going to happen? Her muscles had started to move again, before hands had grabbed at her. Being much taller, she had fought against it, but it didn't seem to matter, as she found herself falling to the ground.
That strength. It was much more than what she had thought it'd be. The girl had remained standing, as she had been pushed, those eyes of this one narrowing. Where was that kindness she had seen? This one's movements were still energetic, but there was something different about it she didn't understand. Other humans she had seen always looked afraid of her, before they died by her hand. This one, was just something else different.
"I guess this confirms today's test. You really don't remember me."
Remember? She didn't. All she saw were images of this girl, but she couldn't understand why. What was the importance that she did? Who was this girl, to be able to just push her like that? She wasn't afraid like other humans, and that look confused her. All she knew was that she let her body moved on its own.
"Oh, biting waves! Let this be an endless trail!"
She found herself rising up again, a circle forming around this girl, before water was shot at her. Her body moved, and she was fast enough to avoid being hit. But this trail of water had followed after her. The muscles in her arms and legs were being pushed as she started jumping around now, the sight of the girl holding up one of her hands, a red mark on it, catching her attention. That was where the power was coming from. She was sure of this.
The force of water hitting her, and moving across her body, had her consuming what she was being hit with. Endless. It really did feel this way. Her vision was starting to get blurry again, not by a shining light, but exhaustion. Her body hadn't moved that much since getting up, only fighting back, but she was.
Everything around her grew darker, and she heard another sigh.
