[Suppressed to First Form]
Many years ago, on Planet Brench.
”L-like this…?” he stuttered as he performed the pose known among the brenchians as the Fighting Pose A: he had to keep his legs apart and completely stretched and double his upper body so he could place his face in between his legs, staring towards what would be his back, with both hands open by the side of his head. It was so embarrassing that he felt completely ashamed to even be doing that, but he wasn’t alone in that as many other soldiers were also being trained under their traditional style, a legacy from a very famous and ancient member of a Special Force that worked under the original Planet Trade Organization nearly millennia ago.
”The form is right, but the attitude is wrong, Haze! You need to put more heart into it, you need to put your soul into it! Don’t hold back! Otherwise your body will never feel the power of this mighty pose!” the brenchian training him was a Captain of the Planet Trade Organization in charge of training the newly appointed squad leaders under the initial techniques of the arts and his name was Shreddar. He was quite the cheerful figure, but he was also rough and wouldn’t accept anything but perfection during his training sessions. The Kold Demon signed, feeling completely ashamed of the ridiculous pose he had to perform, but he was going to do as he was told, he knew all too well that those weird poses could actually increase – although temporarily – the fighting capabilities of a warrior and that was the only reason he was subjecting himself to such a terrible humiliation.
Taking a deep breathe, he started it over again and, with far more energy and enthusiasm, he struck the pose, shouting his name. ”Haze!” he exclaimed and Shreddar finally smiled and clapped his hands, satisfied with his performance. ”Finally! Very good! Now you have the right spirit! Can you feel the power now?” he asked and when the Kold analyzed himself, he felt pretty good, he felt more capable, almost as if he was ready to rumble with the rush of adrenaline that carefully staged pose provided. He felt like he was faster and he indeed was. The Kold tried a few moves and to be honest, he could determine his mobility had temporarily increased by a fifth.
The sudden realization made him arch his brows. ”Impressive! I feel so nimble!” he exclaimed in surprised and his trainer nodded. ”Indeed! That’s the basis of our style! Speed!” he said with a large smile on his face and Haze chuckled, folding his arms. ”Of course! Your people’s body is designed to excel in speed. I wonder if there’s really a deep meaning in teaching us this style since it fits you people so much better.” and he wasn’t really complaining. No, Cygnus was more like questioning if it wasn’t flawed when used by non-brenchians, but the Captain shook his head. ”Au contraire, Haze. If anything, it gives you guys the edge and you can increase your mobility and speed and, even though a brenchian can thrive even more with this style, adding speed to your arsenal is always a good thing!” he explained and the Kold nodded in agreement, there was empirical justification to his answer.
Shreddar turned around to the others, unsatisfied with their lack of spirit and decided to call it a day for them. ”Spirit, guys! You need spirit! Train that for next time, otherwise you won’t ever advance!” he roared, dismissing them all. Haze got ready to leave the training grounds but before he could do so, the brenchian stopped him. ”Uhn?” he asked, arching one of his brows. ”You passed and thus you will be instructed in the style first.” he said and his words were enough to make the Kold crack a smirk in the corner of his mouth; he liked privilege and to be above the others and that was precisely what was happening right now.
The training was intense. Shreddar was far more powerful than Haze and he was brutal while training. His speed was impossible to be matched and as he taught him the first technique of the style, the Purple Magma, he made Haze push his body to its extreme limit in order to attain a speed that was great enough for him to manage to pull up such a stunt. Took him a few hours of being beaten around and failing to propel his body at the right speed, until he finally made it. Haze stopped upon successfully displaying the technique, panting heavily as he was left completely winded with the training.
”Freaking finally! Hahaha! You people are soooo slow!” he teased and Haze stared at him, still struggling to recover his air. ”Y-you people… a-are too… f-fast…!” he struggled to say that and the brenchian laughed, resting both his hands on his hips. ”Come on! There’s one more thing I want to teach you before we call it a day!” and disliking training as he did, Haze groaned in annoyance. ”Y-you can’t… be real! I’m… b-beat!” he complained, but it fell to deaf years as he was already charging a red energy sphere on his hand that could pack quite the punch as his scouter was already indicating.
Haze widened both his eyes in fear. ”No way…” and then the hellish training continued.
For a few more hours, he was constantly beat to the pulp as he did his very best to learn the technique known as the Crusher Ball. At the end of the day, he managed to master it, but he was completely beat and thinking to himself he didn’t want to have to train again for a very long time. Luckily for him, though, the higher ranks under the brenchian war school, way above is clearance level.
Back to the present day, Haze, now known as Cygnus, opened his eyes and saw himself inside his newly acquired spacepod, midway through his route to Namek. He stared at his own hands with a taciturn look on his face and sighed. ”Maybe I should’ve trained a bit more. It would be quite helpful right now.” he couldn’t help but to regret his early life decisions, but if he had to be completely honest, he still disliked the idea of training.
