It was somewhat gratifying that a Kaioshin, broadly speaking, could do their job from almost anywhere in the universe. So well attuned were they to the movements of their own assigned sectors that they could move about Otherworld largely unimpeded and not necessarily remain bound to their respective overlooks as lesser Kais often needed to remain. For Komoku this was a particular boon since it meant that he could visit the World of the Kais with some regularity without really having been said to have neglected his duties, he found mortals fascinating to be sure, but every now and again he still wished to be with his own kind. He wondered, briefly, whether this was a compulsion shared by all living beings. Like seemed to favour like all across the universe, but there were more exceptions to this rule than would be needed to prove its veracity. Perhaps then it was just a basic need for companionship, as pertinent as the base needs of food and water. It could be that was the universal element removed from blood and heritage. He would interrogate the matter further when he returned to his own world which looked over the Western quadrant.
With a sudden flickering in the air and a momentary disturbance of the surrounding atmosphere, Komoku appeared upon the planet's surface. It seemed that, once again his Kai-Kai had been off as rather than emerging in the serene and sheltered groves of Kaiju trees he had instead appeared among the long swaying grasses which stretched on for miles around. The perils of an over-active mind. It seemed he never could end up quite where he wanted to be, especially when he was overthinking, which was almost always. More than once he'd been berated for what had been termed 'brooding' over his sector in this manner. Komoku didn't know if that was the word he would use but he thought that, in no uncertain terms, that was their role when they weren't helping new life to take its first faltering steps in to the universe. Curiosity it seemed, was surplus to requirement and pure vigilance preferred. He could understand that mode of thought coming from a Universe 6 Shinjin, after some of the horror stories which had been related to them by the Daikaioshin.
Most days it saddened him that for the Universe to persist as it had done an entire race had needed to be brought to the brink of extinction, quite apart from being profoundly tragic for all those involved it seemed an inelegant waste to his discerning and resourceful nature. There again, he hadn't been there, the only evidence he had were stories that he had heard from Onato and legends that had been passed down, distorted, from eons ago. Based on these things the case for the action was strong but he could not entirely reconcile it with his way of thinking.
These things and more occupied his mind as he floated over the grassy field, the stalks swaying and bending gentle as he passed. He wasn't really in a hurry, his aura wasn't even particularly aggravated as he drifted listlessly to where he perceived his fellows to be, better to not risk another Kai-Kai or there was no telling where he might land himself. Probably somewhere ridiculous, he'd been fairly lucky to wind up where he did all told. Now there was a life summed up.
'Hm? Oh, I didn't realise I wasn't alone.'
