29/06/18 We have an updated Beginner's Guide for New Members! Please browse through it to get a feel for our systems before diving in! It is here. 22/04/19 Brand new site skin, what what!!
Note: This thread takes place in Red Ribbon Laboratories - Shira's Shop! It also takes place nearly 2 years ago!
It was a brand new day, and a brand new planet.
It was uncanny to him however, how similar this planet was to their old one. The air, the water, the trees. It was all the same… but better in a sense. The climate wasn’t at all affected by their previous industrialization, it was completely new. To think he had almost missed out on such a planet as this one.
It had taken him the calling of the blue Angel for him to even realize that a new Earth had been formed. Without him it would have been without any of the survivors from the Demon attacks. And with that Shira was once again living on Earth, or at least a modified version of it. That didn’t change what had happened in the past however, or what could happen in the future. Shira knew what he had to do if he wanted to prevent an attack like that from ever happening again. He needed to get stronger…
But more importantly the Human race needed to get stronger.
He had already begun talks with the Queen’s leadership to create a new defense force on Earth. So far they had been going well. He had even learned of a name for such a thing. The new Planet Earth still had on it a bunch of knowledge from the original. And in his research he had uncovered the plans for a very strange creature. A Bio-Mechanical Being of seemingly untold power. Such a thing seemed difficult to control however. Instead he found plans for something else entirely. A bio-mechanical being of Earthling Origin, enhanced by mechanical tech to raise their potential battle power manifold. Such a thing could be revolutionary to the defense of the human race. And they would even remain human enough to reproduce.
The organization’s origins however were quite stressful however. An evil organization intent on ruling the world. That had done many of its experiments illegally. Truly not an organization to look up to as far as ethics went, but Shira had to recognize their technological advancements. In the right hands their technology could protect and preserve the Earthlings for generations to come.
In his hands.
And with that he would make sure they came to the light, and he would change the connotation of their name.
He stood in front of the podium, inside of his developed Metal Knight armor. His own technological achievement: an exoskeleton capable of producing an overwhelming amount of power to the human body, fitted with a Neutron Generator to allow him to fight for days. His own exoskeleton was painted with a black and red color scheme (as they were his favorite colors). He would do his best to make as many of these weapons as he could, to empower loyal soldiers ready to defend the planet from future attacks.
“My name is Shira Yoshida. Thank you all for coming here today, here in our laboratories today. Since the last two years of peace, we’ve been blessed without any dangers, any miseries, and any major casualties. But to maintain our defenses in case our enemies should ever return…
I am initiating the Omega Project. A volunteer effort for any of you brave enough to work with me. You will receive intense physical and mental training to maximize your battle power. And when you meet a certain threshold - my colleagues and I will grant you power beyond imagination in one of our many mechanical projects.
The days may be bright now, but we will prepare ourselves for when they are once again plagued by darkness. If you are tired of being helpless on the sidelines while alien invaders come to steal our families, our home, and our dignity - then come work with us today! Help us fight the good fight….
Today I announce the resurrection of the Red Ribbon Army with me as it’s Commander! While the Red Ribbon has proven to be a nefarious organization in the past, I promise you all that I will take on this helm and steer it toward a brighter future! We will be a symbol of peace for everyone, and ensure the Planet Earth’s safety from any future threats!” he shouted, raising his armored fist in the air.
And with that the waves of cheers roared…
“If you wish to serve your people, then come and join us here at Red Ribbon today! If you do not feel you can properly serve, then feel free to donate to our cause, and help us get the supplies we need! Together we can all contribute to our brighter tomorrow!!”
(OOC: Shiori is human in this thread, so she can be sensed normally.)
It was almost like a dream. A dream of white clarity within a blue horizon with green stalks reaching up from the ground. Earth in all its majesty had been restored, and all the people with it. Shiori could scarcely believed it. It was as if all the ordeals she and everyone else had been through was just a nightmare she just awoke from. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
The Saiyans did use a tree to train the life from her villages land. A Kold Demon had wiped out what remained of the survivors on Bris. And Demons undeniably destroyed what was left of the Earth. The fact that she was back on the planet whose destruction was averted was a miracle. Only she wasn’t fully there anymore.
When she returned to her village everyone cheerfully greeted her and things went back to normal for them. For those who had died when the Saiyans attacked and the Kold Demon destroyed, it ended quickly. But for her, a survivor through all these terrible ordeals, all it remained vivid in her memories.
There were times when she couldn’t sleep. Nights where she had woken up screaming. The nightmares were as persistent as long parade of aliens that had attacked the humans costantly. Those nights were the worst. Completely drenched in sweat, she would have to take a shower in the middle of the night. Sometimes she was able to go back to sleep, and sometimes not. Her parents did all they could to help her. But they could only do so much for her.
Those memories played in her head again and again. A everlooming fear often latched onto her and overwhelmed her without warning. She was afraid that she and rhe others would be killed by another monster. That those overpowering creatures would annihilate everything she loved and held dear. Shiori realized she could never go back to being a normal girl. Not with the terrors looming over her head. She had to do something
When Shiori had met with Holly, the Queen had told her about a project she was starting. One that would raise the strength of those who were in it. She had initially refused but now… she got in contact with Lumis, who relayed her request or Holly. She was told to come to a seminar announcing the project. Holly explained that she would tell the man calling it together, Shira, what Shiori looked like and that she was coming there as a candidate. It had taken her a bit of trouble, but the whitr haired girl did make it there.
The crowd made her a bit uneasy. It reminded her of the cramped conditions that she and the other had in the shelters on that ice planet. Shiori gripped her head with both hands, her anxiety enveloping her body and choking her. The white haired girl took a deep breath, trying to calm down. A businessman approached her, a look of concern on his face.
“Are you alright missy?” Shiori looked up at the man, nodding her head a few times. Her meekness almost got her reply lost in the noisy crowd.
“Yeah… I’m fine… thank you.”
The man frowned, not entirely convinced she was fine. But he moved on, leaving Shiori to her own affairs. The white haired girl made it to the front row. When Shira arrived, her mouth opened. He was wearing some kind of suit of armor. Shiori had never seen anything like it before. She closed her mouth to avoid looking like a gaping idiot.
Then he talked about the project and it'd goals for the long term. The future of Earth was something worth fighting for, worth protecting. Shiori did not know the history of the Red Ribbon Army, but she knew what it was now. It was salvation, a beacon of hope for mankind.
She enthusiastically joined in the applause, a glimmer of hope in her eyes . She was going to have an opportunity to do something at last. And while the prospect of this project was nerve wracking, she wasn’t going to back down from this. She would become strong and protect the Earth from those who would harm it.
“Beautiful speech, sir,” Rex said to him as Shira got down from the podium. The dark-skinned scientist nodding to him as the two walked side by side across the room. Shira smiled, though the armor made it impossible to tell his facial expression. So from Rex’s standpoint it just seemed as if Shira was stoic. “Thanks, Rex,” Shira would say to him softly behind the mask. The young man wasn’t super accustomed to public speaking like this, but it was important for him to start getting used to this. He was one of Earth’s leaders now. He had to make sure it was ready for the next crisis. This miracle that was bestowed onto them would likely not happen again.
The laboratory had a wide open space for this event, moving the equipment into a storage room for the moment so everyone could enjoy themselves. It was important to get additional funding after all, but more importantly recruits for his program. He wouldn’t force anyone to risk their lives, but a strictly volunteer force was hard to assemble.
Shira talked to many people, shaking their hands. Corporate leaders, famous doctors and scientists, and many other intellectuals thanked him for his hard work. He was polite. He gave thank yous, and encouraged them for having the courage to show up. It was important to make these relations. The more approachable he was, the more likely he would be able to get funding and volunteers for his program.
Eventually he found his way toward a young girl, a few years younger than him. “Hello. Thank you for coming.” he would say with a smile, before bowing. She was a cute girl. Probably had her whole life ahead of her. He wondered what she was doing in a place like this. “What’s your name?” he asked her.
The speech ended and people began mingle. They moved away equipment that Shiori knew nothing about the voices all rose to buzz around in Shiori’s ears. She felt lost within a sea of conversation, a speck of dust on the wind. She was just a little girl who was out of her element. Shiori shook her head defiantly. No! She was not going to just fade away and live her life constantly afraid of everything. She would become strong!
Within the sea of the crowd one figure stood out. His armor seemed to gleam amid the blur of people around her. There was another man who followed him around closely. Shiori looked up at them hesitantly, her cold feet threatening to get the better of her. The white haired girl felt like she was forcing words to come out of her mouth against heavy resistance, but she managed to speak to them.
“My name… I’m Shiori. Shiori Fuyihana. I was told by Queen Holly that you were the one to come to about the Omega Project, Shira.”
The girl looked up at the suited man with her red eyes. This was the turning point in Shiori’s life. She could have gone home and seek some kind of psychological health. Perhaps that would have helped her. Instead she chose a different path, one that was more dangerous. Thus her destined meeting with Shira altered the course of her life.
Shira frowned on the inside of his armor plate as the girl suddenly tensed up around him. Was the armor a bit much? He hoped he wasn’t being too intimidating behind the thing. He did suppose it was a little much. Suddenly the face part of the helmet would pop off, revealing his red eyes and more gentle features. “Whew… It’s much easier to breathe when you don’t have to do it through a filter in a compressed space. Haha,” he said with a laugh, hoping it would ease her obvious nervousness.
She managed to get out her name at the very least, and it was a pretty one. It was also eerily familiar. Where had he heard it before? Oh… it was on the list that Holly’s family left him for the Omega Project… But she was a child. She was the same age as-...
He couldn’t think about her.
His face softened a bit. He was clearly taken off guard here. “You… wanna join the Red Ribbon Army?” he said, almost concerned with her statement. He was apprehensive about it. I mean.. She was even younger than she was! And it was a hassle to get the people of Earth to feel comfortable with someone like him leading their military. If it wasn’t for his suit of armor, he was pretty sure that they’d have dismissed him entirely.
“You’re so young, Shiori… How old are you? Are you sure this is what you want? You still have so much of life left to live, and well.. Our lives are going to be pretty dangerous. We’ll be soldiers fighting against the dangers that lurk out there in the cosmos…,” he would explain, though he felt she knew what she was signing up for.
Still. He had to hear her answer. He needed to be convinced. This was a bit much for him. Even though he could use the volunteers.
Shiori watched transfixed as his helmet opened up. Even though he was less intimidating than before, one could still see the tension in her body. A part of her knew how illogical it was. Holly had recommends going to this guy, so he had to be trustworthy. But her nervousness and paranoia had been getting the better of her as of late. Still… he looked and sounded like a nice guy. Shiori looked him, clasping her hands together to keep them from trembling. The past that haunted her always brought out the worst of her fears.
“I’m only fifteen. That will makes you uncomfortable, and I’m sorry for that. But we’re all in constant danger now, with what’s out there. I can’t live a normal life knowing that it could end at any moment. I want to protect others and make sure they live normal lives.”
Shiori stared up at Shira, her resolve holding firm. With her white hair and pained expression, she looked like an old woman on the brink of death. Yet her eyes told a different story. There was resolve in them that pushed passed the weakness she seemed to display. She had made up her mind long before she got here.
Shira’s eyes subtly gazed at her trembling hands. This girl was frightened, despite the fact that nothing bad was happening. She was clearly traumatized by recent events. She wanted the strength to move on and to feel safe. She wanted him to help her feel safe, to trust in her own ability. It was clear, and he wanted to help her. But he was a bit cautious of this. Was he doing the right thing by helping her? Or only making her problems that much worse? He wasn’t sure what to do here.
“That’s a noble goal. But what about your life? You’ll be a soldier. Once you sign up you’ll be committed. This isn’t something that can just be undone. My programs will change you forever…,” he said, trying to warn her and discourage her.
“What does your family think? Are they content with letting you pursue this path?” the Commander would ask.
Her resolve was firm, and he was impressed by that. But he wouldn’t be a responsible commander if he didn’t make absolutely certain that this was okay. That he wasn’t making a mistake here. For himself and more importantly for her. If he rushed into this decision, then she would resent him for it in the future if he was wrong. And he couldn’t bear to have that on his conscience.
Even more so if she were to die because of him. Because he relented without making sure. “Are you even certain that you could handle it? You won’t stop trembling, and all you’re doing is talking to me. Would you be able to handle the battlefield, a very scary place?” he asked, continuing what basically amounted to an interrogation at this point.
He wasn’t pushing his punches. Because he couldn’t. It was all for her sake.
“I need to change! I can’t be the way I am right now! I can't…”
Shiori broke off, forcing herself to look into Shira's eyes. She wasn't herself at all. Or rather, this was how she was these days. She hated how broken she had become. But she forced herself to talk as normally as she could.
“I'm sorry… I…” Shiori took a deep breath, trying to keep her nerves together for as long as she could.
“Everything is terrifying to me now. There isn't a moment where I'm not scared anymore. I can't live in fear like this: I want to be able to do something and make a difference. My family understands my decision.”
That wasn't entirely true. While they knew she was special, they wouldn't likely understand what she was setting out to do. Granted she didn't fully know what it meant either, even though she thought she got the gist of it all. But she would in due time.
Shira was surprised by her reaction, his eyes widening as his arms softened at his sides. She was shaking, she was so scared. Even though this wasn’t the best display or proof that she was fit for his program, Shira still felt something for the girl. Something inside of him that told him he had to help her. This was what she needed. And he wasn’t going to refuse that to her. He couldn’t bear to do something so cruel. “Alright,” he said.
He didn’t say anything else. He took a brief silence, feeling the air through his nostrils and releasing it from his mouth in a calm yet rather forceful exhale. He hoped he wouldn’t regret this.
“Welcome to the team, kiddo,” he said with a smile on his face. He patted her head. “You’re part of the Red Ribbon Army now, so you’ll address me as ‘Commander’. Now follow along. We’ve got work to do. We’ve gotta train your body before we can even think of trying to put you in a suit~” he said with a laugh. It took great fitness regimens to help people tap into their inner ki. She would need to break her human limits if she was to wield the immense technology of his exosuits.
Six Months Later…~
“Alright, Shiori! Show us that you’re ready! Put on the suit and go through the simulation! If you can pass this test, you’ll officially be a Lieutenant in the Red Ribbon Army! The same goes for the rest of you! I expect good results here!” the young Commander shouted from atop the ledge where he oversaw the examinations. Shiroi was paired with a squad of other potential soldiers-in-training. She was so far proving to be the best among her class. But this test would test her physical AND mental faculties.
Suddenly the war-torn Earth was shown, with the horde of Demons rushing to claim their lives…
As young as she was, Shiori couldn't help but pick up on his reluctancy. A tinge of fear prodded the back of her head: what if he ultimately refused her? Her fears became invalid the moment he pat her head. A tinge of pink appeared on her face, giving her soon to be superior a nervous smile.
“Thank you… commander!”
Half a year passed in the blink of an eye. Shiori was surprised that she had progressed the furthest out of the trainees here. Somehow the Queen had seen this potential within her just by meeting her once. No, she must have seen much more: that's why she suggested her to come to this training program in the first place.
Shiori glanced up at Shira as he laid out the information on the training exercise. Ahe gave him a small smile, snappijg her feet together at attention and giving him a salute. Most of the group was disciplined enough to not comment, although a few of them muttered under their breath to each other.
It was no secret that Shiori was rather close to the commander. That didn't mean she didn't work hard, mind you. But it was easy to be resentful when another trainee had an established relationship with a high ranking commander.
Shiori put on her suit, and the test began. At first things went exactly how their training had dictated. Shiori and the others managed to take down their targets as a unit. It was tough, but manageable. Suddenly an orange light glowed from above her. She charged an energy beam and prepared to fire it, only to freeze when she saw what it was.
A demon was charging a glowing, orange sphere in the sky. Shiori stopped where she was, completely frozen as the scene changed before her. The blue sky and ruined city banished to be replaced by saek, cloudy skies. Snow rained around her, and the shelter where her family was staying in was behind her. A Kold demon leered down at her from above, grinning wickedly at her. It was a face that had haunted her all this time, even after she had gotten back to Earth.
"I let you live and this is all you can muster? You're still just a foolish girl trying to take vengeance you can't hope to obtain. You and the rest of your race need to learn their place!"[/color]
Shiori tried raising her arm, flying forward, anything. But her body wouldn't move. She shuddered as she tried to will herself to fly though the air, but she wouldn't budge. She was as powerless as a video game character with no controller plugged in. All she could do was watch as the energy ball grew bigger and bigger.
