Was this building worth putting in the extra work to make? The Saiyan hybrid certainly hoped it was. Tomina was sitting down on the floor with her legs crossed. Her feet were bare and her eyes were closed. Her brow furrowed, a her body quivering as she did her best to get to a calm state.
Tomina had constructed the dojo not too long after the Saiyans had settled on Yasai. It was a very traditional design. At least that was what she was told anyway. It's wooden floors were polished, gleaming in the light. Various training equipment were neatly arranged against the far ends of the dojo. The symbol of her school, a sword with flames around it, hung on the wall behind the altar atop the raised platform.
Tomina knew that a threat was on the horizon. Hasenya had told her that sometime between now and 2 decades into the future, a being with vast power would destroy everything in its path. So she was doing all that she could to change that. She was not only training to get stronger, but was also trying to amass any advantage she could. This was where this dojo came in.
Tomina had to approach some things in a different manner then she normally would. One of those methods was training in a style she would have used in Hasenya timeline. The tournament of power never occurred at her end, so she knew that the other Tomina wouldn't have been able to encounter the source of inspiration. She was trying to get into a similar mindframe to him, but…
“Urrrgh!”
Tomina hopped to her feet, her bare feet thumping against the wooden floor. Being patient really wasn't her forte. She rubbed her head with both hands in frustration. The door creaked open, a familiar voice calling out to her.
“Tomina, being calm and deliberate was never your forte. Why are you putting yourself through this?”
Tomina looked up to see Karen striding into the dojo, her footsteps echoing in the large space. Tomina put her hands on her hips, letting out a exasperated sigh.
“If I’m ever going to control my ki to the degree that I want to, then I need more discipline and concentration. The point of developing this new fighting style is to be able to dish out punishment while causing as little collateral damage as possible.”
“I get that part. You don't want to hurt innocent bystanders and risk lowering the mortal level further. But why a sword style? You like punching and kicking things like every other Saiyan.”
Tomina chuckled, shaking her head back and forth. She beckoned with her finger, walking over to a wooden dummy. Karen followed her, curious as to what she was going to. Tomina closed her eyes, one hand reaching down and grasping the hilt of her sword. The stillness felt tense, like a rope about to snap. Then suddenly, Tomina’s eyes snapped open.
With a moment almost too fast to see, the practice dummy in front of her was diassembled. The air itself seemed to be cutting them up. First the arms and then the head. The parts flee off, landing on the floor with a resounding thud. Tomina’s hand left the hilt of her sword. With a cry, her fist slammed against the wooden dummy, sending it flying against the fall wall. Karen watched in awe as it splintered into seemingly thousands of pieces.
“Incredible! You’ve managed to find a way to combine a sword style with your more traditional Saiyan fighting style. No one but you would have thought of something this crazy.”
“Hah! Crazy good! Sis, this will allow me to use a unique style that I’ll employ when I have to. I’ll be able to switch strategies in the blink of an eye. I have to be ready for all kinds of situations.”
Tomina moved onto other dummies. She let out a war cry whenever she switched targets. Legs were cut apart. wooden arms cluttered around the floor, splintering into thousands of pieces. Tomina seemed to have little regard for the mess she was going to have to clean up later though. Right now she was just focused on refining her technique. She twirled her sword and sheathed it when she was done.
“Well, I’ve got myself a good foundation to a sword style. It’s only going to get harder from here on out though. You can get far with fundamentals, but it’s going to take more than that to become stronger.”
Karen felt a sense of dread as her sister said those words. There was something underlining in those words. Tomina had told her about a threat that they were going to have to inevitably deal with. Still, her sister had been very vague in explaining it. She presumed there must have been some reason for her to be so discrete about it, even with her. The timid sister reached up, rubbing the back of her head with her hand.
“So… Could you teach me how to fight properly?”
It was a question that would have huge implications for the future to come. Tomina didn’t want her sister to battle and put her life at risk. Especially after everything she had done to bring her back. But could she really let Karen remain virtually defenseless?
