Rutaba had been focusing on his training for quite some time out in the western regions. Most of his time lately was entirely dedicated to it, always outside of his mothership so that he could easily access it to head back to Demalia's. He wasn't cut off of communication by any means, he always had his scouter on him ready to pick up any calls from his girlfriend or those that had need of him. But other than any course correction like those, this was his life. All of it done to rekindle the fighting style he once trained in.
"You take the lead this time, Rutaba?" the voice of a more relaxed Saiyan called out to Rutaba as they stood side by side, both in the stance of the Sadal Fighting Academy that they had been training in. "Sure, Azukai." the younger Rutaba returned in kind as they stood inside of the training facility facing down none other than their Captain, Tunnip.
"The two of you seem to be in perfect sync today. You deserve to fight alongside each other like this. Now come! Let's see if you two can finish the next step of training." Tunnip called out to the two boys, dropping into a much more refined and sturdy version of the same stance. He was far superior to the two of them for the time being but both boys sought to overcome that gap.
"Go!" Rutaba shouted as he kicked off his back foot, charging straight towards Tunnip. "Right behind you!" Azukai shouted back as he kept pace right alongside Rutaba. Both of their aura's lit fiercely as they collided with Tunnip, their different colored aura's both burning a bright yellow as their powers shot up dramatically from what they once were. At the time, they both boasted powers of around two-thousand, their blazing saiyan souls causing them to shoot up to an acceptable eight-thousand each. Tunnip still held the upper-hand in this fight, holding a steady eighteen-thousand power level without even powering up according to their scanning devices. The gap was still there to even overcome his base power, but both Saiyan's saw that as just a mountain to climb with one another.
The boys held a steady barrage against Tunnip as he countered each blow with a block from either hand. He was both strong enough, and fast enough, to keep up with their combined barrages side by side. Not a single strike deterred him from the defense, but what mattered was that he was being kept on it. "Good.... no, fantastic!" Tunnip spoke between blocks against the two boys. They were far above that of normal combatants in terms of how heavy their strikes landed, but Tunnip's would hit twice as hard even after closing the gap. Yet, he couldn't stop smiling. "At this rate, if the entire squad was here you'd definitely force me to power up! That'd be a first you know." their Captain continued on as he'd disengage from their barrage, giving them a single smirk.
"But you're not there yet!" he'd roar as he delivered a solid, ki-empowered kick directly to Rutaba's chest sending him flying backwards, Azukai being too stunned by seeing his friend get knocked away to even defend himself against a fierce punch directly to his stomach. The fight was far from theirs...
And hours passed with them losing ground...
Both boys were left entirely winded, hardly able to stand to look at their captain or even breath for that matter. "Pitiful! Saiyan's are known to fight for days on end without rest and you can't even last half a day?! Do you really expect to protect the galaxy, no, the universe if you pass out before even arriving?!" Tunnip barked at the boys as they could only listen while wallowing in defeat. "Where is your Saiyan Pride! Just because you're defenders of the people doesn't mean you can ever forget your Saiyan Pride! Get up and fight me!" he roared further on. Some people could consider this terrible teaching behavior for a captain to push upon his trainee's, but to them it was perfect. No ill will was carried by Tunnip's words, they were meant to inspire both boys who could only look towards each other and laugh softly.
They were Saiyans, members of the Sadal Defense Force!
Without even passing a statement to one another, both Rutaba and Azukai kicked off simultaneously to charge directly at their Captain. Both roared out as they arrived, both sending ki up their arms as they swung two rib breakers directly at Tunnip. He countered in kind, his power allowing him to counter both with one rib breaker each which caused both boys to groan in pain as their arms went limp with so much power shooting back into them.
Before either could competently get back on the offensive, Tunnip delivered a mighty blow to Azukai's stomach once again, causing him to roar out in pain and clutch his stomach. Rutaba was once more alone, causing him to grit his teeth before something would click. He had to bait out a counter attack of some sorts, something that Tunnip wouldn't expect. But with every bit of his mind burning on that subject... he remembered what Tunnip had told him about in a prior sparring session. Pain would forever be a part of combat, and no matter what they did they wouldn't be able to stop it. However, he was also informed that he had to train his body until it would never become a hindrance ever again. That was the Saiyan Pride that Tunnip was talking about, and why he was always aiming for these attacks that caused so much pain within the two boys. Being able to fight for days on end had nothing to do with being stronger than the opponent... it was about being able to be in overwhelming pain and ignore it just enough to keep fighting.
Rutaba had kept so much focus on Azukai during that thought process, his friend being so dutifully injured to come to a standstill in those moments. "You're wide open, Rutaba!" Tunnip roared as he aimed to deliver the same punch that he had hit Azukai with directly into Rutaba's stomach, who accepted it entirely with a large wince on his face.
To Tunnip's surprise, Rutaba stayed still, groaning but with a fire burning in his eyes. The distance between captain and trainee was closed as Tunnip was so focused on striking Rutaba. What would normally leave Rutaba open for a follow-up strike from keeling over in pain, instead allowed the young Saiyan to bring his arm back, sending a devastating blow of his own directly into Tunnip's stomach.
The Captain yelled out as he was struck so suddenly, causing him to stumble back a bit from how heavy the ki-infused punch was. "That was... the Final Blow... and you withstood my strike." Tunnip said weakly as he clutched at his stomach for a second before grinning. "The fight isn't over just yet, just because you've learned how to use the fighting style more efficiently doesn't mean you've moved up. Come, boys! THE FIGHT RAGES ON!" Tunnip roared once more as Azukai finally overcame his pain-induced stun to get back into position.
"It seems we're not that lucky... ready, partner?" Azukai said over to Rutaba with a smirk, causing the young Saiyan to return immediately. "You know I always am-"
"AZUKAIII!" Rutaba let out a bestial roar as he delivered a mighty punch to a boulder that was in the way of his training. The amount of ki that was burning through his arm in that moment, as well as the way it flew forward, had all the teachings of the Final Blow technique laid down. The boulder shattered immediately, crumbling into a pile of debris.
Rutaba had been training out here for so long, the sheer force of his punches started to wear on his attire and body to the point that he was in near constant pain until he took some time to relax. But the pain no longer slowed him down... all it did was remind him that he was alive. Digging up the past like this... to remember such things. That was a type of pain of its own. He remembered why he got so rusty with the fighting style that was dear to his people and his squad.
Tears slowly streamed down the Saiyan's face as his fists clenched tightly, digging in hard enough to draw blood. "Azukai, you bastard... why did you do it... I still don't... understand." the Saiyan spoke solely to himself. The memory of Azukai alone caused him intense grief. Tunnip was gone because of that man... the rest of his squad too... all because of the one he once considered a partner. Why did he have to be such a big part of his memories?
That was enough training for the day, though. Rutaba had caught up all the teaching he really needed for the time being, so he turned to his mothership and walked back inside to pack up and go back to Demalia's place. He was too focused on his past to continue doing anything useful for himself. He had to look to the present and future to feel better.
