(Thread PL: 74,067. Or at least it should be. Not updated yet.)
Jie Shan stood across from Carota. The two found themselves in Jie Shan’s gravity chamber, preparing for some rather intense training: thirty times the Earth's gravity. And not only that, but Jie Shan was wearing his weighted armor as well. He’d received many a lecture on going without it, so for now he deigned it prudent to keep wearing it. Besides, he certainly enjoyed the strength it developed for him.
“Alright, guys,” called out Rudieri’s voice from some hidden room, “I'm turning the gravity on! Brace yourselves, because it might get a bit rough!”
Jie Shan buckled slightly beneath the gravity. That and his armor made his body feel heavy, as if he were made from stone. And Jie Shan moved as if he was made from it as well. Jie Shan bent to touch his toes, and he found it hard. His body dropped like a rock and it was hard to bring it back up. And Carota seemed to be having even more trouble. The fulblood reached for his own toes, but quickly fell to the ground, wriggling like mad, trying to bring himself up again. Jie Shan sighed and shook his head. At least, thought Jie Shan, his friend was not wearing damnable armor like he was. But Hell, thought Jie Shan, it would make him stronger.
And, not to mention, it would provide Jie Shan with the handicap he needed to fight Carota on fair terms. Well, he thought, slightly more fair terms. Jie Shan stared at the goofy fullblood. He was not the strongest of fighters, but he was definitely the biggest party animal. The man was more concerned with booze and women, more than fighting. But Jie Shan could scarcely blame the fullblood. Jie Shan liked the same things. But at least the halfblood could buckle down and train. It was only fitting for a newly minted captain. Carota, on the other hand, had to be lured into training with the promise of post-work out bar crawls, yet again.
In truth, Carota was one of his best friends. Jie Shan trusted the party animal and quite liked him. The fullblood was the life of any party, and he always showed Jie Shan a good time, whether Jie Shan wanted one or not. But, truth be told, Carota was not his first choice of a training partner. Nor was he his second. Or his third. Or his fourth. Come to think of it, if Jie Shan had drawn a physical list, the list would likely stretch out and down the hall for meters and meters before one would find Carota’s name. But, he thought with a small mental sigh, friends had to stick together. And maybe Jie Shan could finally whip his friend into shape. He doubted it, of course, but nothing was impossible! But, thought Jie Shan, his friend was still on the ground, trying to struggle to his feet. Well, he told himself, perhaps some things were impossible.
“Hey, Jie Shan,” groaned Carota, “Can I get a little help here, buddy? I really can’t get up!”
Jie Shan waddled over to his friend and extended a hand, attempting to pull his friend up through the gravity. “Damn, Carota,” grunted Jie Shan, “It feels like you’ve put on a few pounds. Maybe it’s a good thing we’re training.”
“Haha,” mocked Carota, “It’s just the gravity, man. I thought you were used to this kind of crap. Don’t you do this all the time?”
“No,” growled Jie Shan as he finally pulled his friend to his feet, “I don’t. If I did this all the time, I’d be at one hundred times gravity instead of thirty. And maybe I would have a real training partner instead of some guy who can barely stand up. Were you hitting the bottle before you came over, Carota?”
“Hey, man, that hurts. I’ll have you know, I haven’t done any drinking today. Though, I won’t say I wasn’t nursing a hangover for a while there,” said Carota with a grin.
“You know,” sighed Jie Shan, “I would be more concerned if you weren’t. But come on, let’s get to training, Carota. We need to be serious.
“Why?” Demanded Carota, “Is it because you’re a captain now? Gotta be all serious and shit now that you’re part of the brass? Man, what happened to the Jie Shan who was on our squad?”
Jie Shan frowned. “Look, Carota, I-”
“Man, do you remember the planet with the giant lizard things? How we snuck away from camp in the night to go ride them? We got a little drunk and tried to convince Potana to come with us, but she was all bitchy and was like ‘that’s dereliction of duty’ and all that shit,” Carota said with a sneer as he crudely imitated Potana’s voice, “She missed out on a great time. We nearly got eaten, but damn! We managed to get them to let us ride them. Now that was a great time!”
Jie Shan frowned. He was not keen on Cartoa’s mockery of Potana, but he did have to admit: the lizard planet had been a good time. Though his memory of that night was more than a little fuzzy, he remembered it, for what he could, fondly.
Jie Shan continued to warm up, trying to think of a way how to explain his stance to Carota. “Carota, look. You’re my friend and all, but I need to get stronger,” he explained as he began to do a few jumping jacks.
“But why, man?” Asked Carota, “You’re like one of the strongest people on Planet Natto! Aren’t you strong enough?”
Jie Shan sighed. Carota was a nice enough guy, but he was definitely the poster child for what Cornel said about the younger generations of Saiyans getting soft. Carota simply lacked the drive and ambition for power that others of his kind had. He liked to fight and to be strong, but the fullblood liked the more hedonistic things in life.
“Look, Carota. I’m strong, yeah, but I’ve fought people way stronger,” explained Jie Shan, “You know, just the other day, I fought a Super Saiyan. And even though I tried my hardest, I could barely touch him. I only managed to hurt him once. And that’s scary. Like, it’s so weird to be so helpless against such a powerful. Exciting, but kind of frustrating at the same time. So, I need to get stronger so I can fight people like that on even ground.”
Carota stared at Jie Shan for a solid moment. And then he shook his head, chuckling to himself. “You know, I don’t expect anything different from you,” laughed Carota, “You never were satisfied with anything. And you know what? I missed you, Jie Shan. A shame that your ass of a dad got your pulled out of our squad.”
Jie Shan frowned at the mention of his father. Why did people always have to bring him up? Jie Shan liked to think that he was his own person, but it seemed that people still defined him by his father.
“Yeah,” said Jie Shan quietly, “So, can we train or what?”
“Sure! I’ve got a new technique I’ve been working! I want to try it out on you,” exclaimed Carota.
“You? You developed a new technique? I find that hard to believe, you know,” smirked Jie Shan, relieved to just finally be training.
“Hold on, trust me! I’ll show you, just give me a second!” Insisted Carota.
“Okay,” said Jie Shan with a shake of his head and a small smile, “But I won’t make it easy for you to hit me!”
“I don’t expect anything less from you, Jie Shan!” Shouted Carota. And with that, Carota raised a hand and began to gather ki in the palm of his hand. Well, thought Jie Shan, it seemed that his friend had been working on his ki techniques after all. Perhaps this one would not be so easy to dodge after all. Unless, Jie Shan told himself, he used the Rapid Movement technique. But then he realized: even that might not be enough. As he focused on the technique his friend was forming, Jie Shan realized just how much power the fullblood was putting out. It must be the concentration of all Carota’s power. Jie Shan would need to further beyond if he wanted to dodge this.
As Carota continued to charge his attack, Jie Shan was preparing for his own move. Already, he was beginning to flood his body with ki, even more so than the rapid movement technique required. It was almost like the bulking technique, in the way that all his body filled with ki. But instead of growing, this ki flooding was focused on providing him with a burst of speed. He was on edge. The feeling of the ki growing in his friend… Jie Shan did not think that Carota was capable of such serious effort. But Jie Shan knew that he himself was. And he’d not let Carota score an easy hit on him. It was an odd feeling. The gravity weighed down on him, but his body felt ecstatic, ready to burst. It was almost as if he could feel the speed in him.
Finally, Carota launched his attack. A dark blue orb of energy flew towards Jie Shan, speeding like a bullet. But Jie Shan was ready. As soon as the orb came close to him, Jie Shan was moving. His ki-infused body moved like lightning, despite the gravity and weighted armor. His surroundings seemed to blur together and he was moving with such incredible speed… And then he came to a stop, meters from where he had started. He looked back just in time to see the orb passing through an afterimage of his body. Perfect, thought Jie Shan, just as he had hoped.
But at the same time, it seemed to dash Carota’s hopes. “Bullshit!” Cried Carota, “I put everything I had into that attack and you dodged it like it was nothing! How did you get so damn fast? And in this gravity and in that freaking weighted armor of yours! Bullshit!”
Jie Shan shrugged and smirked. “What can I say?” He beamed, “Maybe if you trained more, you could match my speed.”
“Yeah, maybe! But I’m more of a bar guy than a weight room guy. Speaking of which… Can we hit the town now?” Asked Carota excitedly. And Jie Shan only frowned in response.
“Are you kidding me? We’re just getting started, Carota! I’m gonna make you work for your liquor!” Jie Shan exclaimed as he rushed his friend, fists held high. And he damn well meant it. If he so desired, Jie Shan could keep this up for awhile. Though the gravity and his weights were harsh, Jie Shan knew what he had to do. He had to best a Super Saiyan.
Second gravity thread for this week! Attempting to learn (ST-2) Afterimage. Also, I'll take PL with my gravity modifier, my heavy weights modifier, LMB, half-Elemi bonus, and my house bonus, if applicable. Thank you!
