The sun would shine bright upon the sandy dunes of the Wastelands. Merchants would rush to the city center in hope of finding guards for their caravans. Sand storms had been hitting the merchants hard, causing them to lose a lot of their merchandise and this was without including the frequent bandit raids. For Meridia however it simply meant better business as she didn't have to travel anywhere to find jobs and they would simply come to her. Even with how much this all helped her, her job also became harder as she had to constantly be wary of the bandit's paths. Some merchants would also decide to go against her advice causing them to fall into the most simple of traps. She tried her best to lead them and keep them aware of the various dangers of the wastelands but some just seemed to want to fall into those traps. A group of foreign merchants would approach the archer asking for her prices. "Whatever you can afford." she said in a strict tone looking at the merchants. They looked at each other and nodded giving her a generous amount of money. "This is half of the amount we are willing to give you, we will hand over the other half once we reach destination safely." the merchants informed her. "Fair to me but we will do this on my rules and you will have to follow what I say, for your own safety of course. That is if you wish to get to destination with your friends still alive and your merchandise intact." The merchants would nod, accepting her terms. Meridia reached out, shaking the merchant's hand to seal the deal. "This might be a long trip, please make sure you bring enough resources to even complete it, we will be leaving tomorrow at sun rise. Please meet me here, I will be waiting for your party."
The night would be quite long. No storms or trouble around, the simple notion of time and nothingness would be the only things keeping company to the mercenary. She remained awake for the entirety of the night, thinking about the journey she would have to go through in the morning. The pay was good but the merchant’s destination was so far it might take a week to reach it. She sighed to herself and got up from her usual seating spot. Taking a midnight stroll around the desert city she couldn’t help but feel lonely as she had lived and worked around the wastelands for over a year now. She missed the feeling of the soft morning breeze coming from the sea. Missing home but what was home to her now, she hadn’t really had a place to call home since her parent’s disappearance. She would feel lonely quite often but most of the time she simply shrugged it off, continuing her lonesome life as a caravan guard. She shook her head dismissing the feelings for a moment but ended up simply sitting upon a rock, staring at the moon. Pondering upon the feelings that she had she held her knees against her chest and wished upon the moon to one day find a new home. Nodding to herself she got up and walked around the quiet city. Looking around herself she could only imagine the happiness that the families inside those houses would feel. She held onto her chest placing her hand against her heart as she felt a sharp pain go through her. Meridia walked to the center of the city, sitting against the well. The area that would normally be visited by hundreds of people would be completely deserted in the darkness of the night. She stared at the well, the bright light of the moon reflecting directly against the well’s waters. She stared deeply into the waters, reflecting on her own past. “Life sure is a mysterious thing… things happening for no specific reasons and yet the affect everything so much.” She told herself quietly. Noticing tears dropping from her cheeks and landing into the calm stagnant waters of the well. She wiped her cheeks and giggled. “Ah... crying now of any time…and for what reason?” she questioned herself shaking her head unable to help her emotions. Meridia would sit her back against the well and hid her face against her knees. She would spend the rest of the night in this position, waiting until the sun would begin rising to stand up and regain her composure to look as professional as possible.
The center of the city would already be crowded, the sun still rising in the sky. The Merchants would arrive at the demanded time, they all seemed quite prepared as they carried large packs onto the mules. Meridia herself would carry her backpack containing the same things as always, mostly food and water for herself. The group began their trips inside the wastelands, planning to traverse the entire region. This would be the usual job Meridia had to go through if it wasn’t for the fact that they wanted to go through the entire region without stopping by cities. The feat wouldn’t be too hard for her to achieve but it was still an unusual job. The merchants seemed more willing to cooperate and listen to her advices when it came to the trip, letting her ration their food and water to make sure there was no waste or that they didn’t use it too quickly. The trip would go fairly well for the first day, they made a stop for the night once the sun was gone, leaving the wastelands quite dark. The only light shining upon them being the bright light of the moon reflecting upon the seas of sand around them. The sand seemed to expand endlessly, covering what looked like weeks of land. “What a beautiful sky we have tonight...” she whispered to herself quietly, leaving the merchants to their chatter as she stood guard for the night while they rested.
