Jammin~
Music was blaring loudly out the speakers with the most kick you could probably get out of them for their size. Six 14-inch laid out in a radial panel behind the two seats in the custom mini-L.A.D.D hovercraft. A red and black custom model with flame vinyl on the sides. It was a small-sized craft, having a cockpit with only a couple of seats in it. The set of dual-thrusters in the back were made by herself. Flare was nodding her head to the music while piloting the craft with the roof retracted and letting her hair flow wildly behind her. The large bag in the passenger seat was flapping around as well, but whatever was in it weighed enough to not move around and risk being taken by the rushing air. She was going particularly far, even for open space above the wastes. Where she was going...? She didn't even particularly know. Flare was just out, having a little fun exploring while simultaneously looking for her former master.
The song was near its midpoint when something came popping out of the sack next to her, beeping loud enough to outshine both the winds and speaker pumping out music. "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee-"
"AHH!" Flare jumped in her seat and almost sent the Ladd in a full barrel roll. To avoid anything bad from happening her instincts were to stabilize the craft and promptly stop it. Too hard. Her head, along with the small beeper that popped out of the bag, smacked lightly against the dash of the craft. She would recoil quickly just from adrenaline and give a good wide-eyed look at the suspect- It was a small robot.
"You stopped." The little robot spoke mechanically as it climbed its way out of the bag and proceeded to sit on top of it. "Are you okay?" Flare frowned a bit at the fact the little bugger managed to startle her. Before it became a problem she went ahead and turned the music down to a soft background noise.
"Oh, Jax… Yeah, yeah. You just fucking gave me a heart attack." She tried waving that off quickly. "What are you doing coming out of sleep mode like that?" The small robot looked around the ship for a moment. Almost as to confirm something. He leaned forward a bit and pointed towards thhe front of the Ladd.
"Well, my sensors indicated that a bulbs inside the L.A.D.D-" He sounded out each letter with a slight pause in between. "- were malfunctioning and would require immediate maintenance for safe flight." The elemi narrowed her eyes on the aide robot. A slight bit of flames collecting off her head.
"Bulbs?! But I just replaced them last week!- You're still bugged, little man. There’s no way." Jax scratched the side of his head as he considered it; Flare was no master engineer. She screwed up so bad on the first version of Jax that he practically thought he was in love with everyone. "If you're going to stay out of the bag, buckle up so you don't get lifted out the seat. Otherwise, go ahead and crawl back in." She was still teaching the A.I. common sense and more social cues. The robot decided of the two options to start buckling itself up as soon as a large pop came from under the hood of the idle Ladd. Flare looked out in front of her and sighed.
"Bulbs?" The Ladd gave out a whimper as it powered down and shut off.
"Most certainly." Jax confirmed before the whole thing starting falling out of the air.
________
Flare yelped and instantly unbuckled herself to climb out of the craft. She scooped up Jax and the bag from the Ladd before it started plummeting. She threw the robot into the bag with a rushed swipe and went to catch up to the vehicle. Grabbing the door's handle she slowed its descent. Letting it drop with a soft thud after they safely reached the grounds of the wasteland. The bag was placed down too as she kneeled to ruffle through it.
Jax was set out of the bag first, then she started going through the bag with a bunch of metallic clanks sounding from it. There she got a few tools out and set them aside the bag. Jax watched closely. "You're attempting repair here?" The robot inquired as Flare took a wrench.
"Nothing permanent. I'll keep her flying long enough to be put in a garage while we take a tour of the city." She gave the robot a proud look as she popped the hood. "I'm so glad you weren't broken! Means I didn't mess up a second time!" She seemed ecstatic that the robot was able to detect malfunctions... Even though she ended up not listening to them sooner. "I didn't think linking you to the Ladd would work." She started working on clearing area under the hood, leaning in to loosen items. Jax was watching from near the bag, patiently awaiting an order. Eventually Flare took out the busted bulb and tossed it out in an offset direction, wiping her forehead of sweat. The heat was certainly more notable when you weren't flying around in a hover car.
"Jax, can you hand me a 3/8th?" She called out, reaching behind herself with an open hand and wiping sweat with another. The little robot looked through the bag and pulled out the said size wrench. He stumbled on over to hand it to Flare, who takes it and give the little guy a pat on the head. Like someone would a child. "Good boy."
"You persist on calling me by 'male' pronouns but as a non-organic robot, I'm of no gender or sex." Jax seemed almost confused by the constant pet calling. This is actually the second time the robot has said something of the sort. It wheeled her out of her fixing trance for a moment as she lurched back away from her work, hands and part of her forehead dirtied. She set her hands on her hips as she looked down at the little robot.
"Well, you're MY boy. Besides, your voice card is masculine." Flare tossed the wrench off to the side now with the other tools she gathered and walked on over to the bag. "Unless you want to have a more feminine model, Jax. Now come on, hop in." She pointed at the Ladd's open hood. The robot blinked and hobbled over as commanded. Being a little too small to see all of what she had rigged inside the engine's space. Almost abruptly the Elemi came up behind Jax and tossed him in, grabbing a ratchet from her pile.
"What are you doing, Flare?" Jax fumbled next to the engine.
"You're my new bulb!~" She jumped up excitedly as she took a wrench back from her pile and started forcefully rigging the robot to the machine. “Simple conversion to make your hollow stomach-region act as a vacuum! It'll trick the systems and unlock itself. Remind me to check your circuits after this is done, if you even can.”
“I have made a note of that. Also, I do not think that this will result in safe flight. Actually, there is a high probability that this will not work at all.” Jax pointed one of his wide fingers up like he knew what he was talking about. Flare shrugged at him as a result.
“We’re about to find out then, huh?” She said as she was getting finished with fastening him properly. With the rig in place the idle car resumed into idle mode with a low hum. The thing could be started again. Flare smiled wide at herself and slammed the roof shut. She banged on it a few times with a fist. “This won’t be a long trip, just stay still.” Just then the humming stopped from the car, and it locked itself up again on the ground. Flare rapidly slammed at the hood again, denting it in a good few inches. She got furious for just a second, lighting up.
“THAT DOESN’T MEAN GO INTO SLEEP MODE. WAKE UP.” And as quickly as it went down it came back up. She sighed to herself and gathered her things back into the bag and tossed them into the Ladd. “I swear sometimes my crap won’t stay together. Anyways, TALLY HO!!!” The Elemi revved it up and shot off dangerously into the skies again. Continuing on after that little accident, she set sights on West City.
But… after a few minutes up in the skies, a loud boom shook the whole Ladd, and Flare was quick to look around. Was someone pursuing her? Shooting up from somewhere? She couldn’t quite tell. She was getting livid. “Oh come on, I’m not even done with the car yet, why does someone have to go and start sh-”
“Flare, the rig you made has become defunct, and the systems are expected to shut down again.” Jax had sat beside her again, out of the constraints Flare put him in. Flare’s eyes shot wide open as she looked at him, to the front of the car, and back at him. The little guy somehow managed to get his way out of the craft just to naively warn her.
“JAX. I WONDER WHY IT’S DEFUNCT.”
“It would seem the rig was destroyed.”
