Hwa-Jae stood atop the hikui bird Koge, her gloves gently yet firmly holding onto his thick feathers as he walked through the outer limits of West City. As they made their way through the urban metropolis, the two stared in wonder of it all. The tall skyscrapers stood like distance mountains looming overhead, while vehicles both on the ground and in the sky raced by them to wherever their drivers ushered them to. Large bulbous structures stood dotted amongst the buildings, while machinery of all types operated around her. Even during the day time, the bright lights and loud noises of West City seemed to send Hwa-Jae into sensory overload.
As they made their way closer to the downtown core, Hwa-Jae began to notice the people and they, in turn, noticed her. The vast majority of them wore clean clothes which made Hwa-Jae feel slightly bothered. Her cheongsam uniform was in tatters having taken damage by her own hand to make a breathing mask and from the lava from Mount Kiwi. She thought of changing to her spare uniform, but those clothes were covered in ash and dust from Mount Kiwi's eruption. Not only that, but Hwa-Jae did not find a suitable river to wash everything in.
So she looked like a dirty vagaband riding on top of a large talking hikui bird. Surely the people of West City saw stranger things than that? The quizzical expressions on the citizens of the city gave her plenty of answers to that question. Still, no one stopped her. Or talked to her. Or even said good morning.
"So this is West City," Hwa-Jae muttered as she looked around, "Not exactly what I thought it would be. I could see the city skyline from one of the Kasai guard towers, but was forbidden to come here. Wonder what we'll find here."
"You've never been here?" Koge asked, "I thought all humans lived in cities like these. I thought they were like giant nests, but it looks more like a big ant hill. A big, noisy, annoying ant hill. And this ground is hurting my feet."
"Oh simmer down," Hwa-Jae said, tossing a fireball into the hikui's mouth, "This isn't so bad. We just have to find a place to wash my clothes and pick up some food. How hard can it be? Just act natural."
"I am natural, I'm a bird!"
As they finally entered downtown, the sound of sirens in the distance stopped Koge in his tracks as a police car emerged from behind a building and hovered over them. As it set down, two officers jumped out of the vehicle and looked over Hwa-Jae and Koge with stern expressions. One of the officers approached Hwa-Jae and flashed her his badge.
"West City Police," he said in an authoritative tone. "Miss, do you have a permit for this pet of yours?"
Hwa-Jae blinked in surprise. "A permit?"
"This animal needs to have a permit to be in city limits, or else we'll have to give you a fine," the second officer explained, "Pets also need to be on leashes."
"I am not a pet!" Koge shouted in protest. "I am Koge! I am her friend! If this is how you treat guests, you are quite rude!"
Everyone from the police to random passers-by looked at Koge in shock. They likely never saw a bird like Koge before. The two police officers looked at each other in shock and then back to Hwa-Jae.
"An unusual zoanthrope," said the first officer, "All right, you don't need a permit. Just don't break any laws during your visit to West City, like making sure your bird friend doesn't defecate on property or we'll have to come back with much harsher fines and punishments."
The two police officers went back to their hover car and sped away. While Koge seemed proud of himself, Hwa-Jae pressed a hand against her forehead. "This is going to be a long day."
Galen’s time on the Lookout wasn’t being as fruitious as he had hoped; seemed like he had bad timing and that was starting to make him feel rather sad and useless. Ever since the saiyans attacked the Earth again, or so he had heard since he couldn’t even feel energy and stuff, Arion had left the planet and Atsuko, the Kami, had disappeared. Seemed like she had been kidnapped by some demon queen and that now the saiyans would be helping Cambia and Bernael to rescue her but Galen didn’t know for sure. Ayami also went missing and that just made him sad. On top of it all, Christopher and Gouken had died at the hands of a man named Jarvis, who seemed to be an old friend of them that turned evil somehow.
”All these bad things happening… I wonder why… I should be fighting this evil along with them, but… I’m too weak to make a difference… But I can’t allow this feeling to drag me down, otherwise I will be into some serious trouble. I need to use it to get motivated, to get angered by my own powerlessness!” the Lone Swordsman would think to himself as he walked across the streets of West City; he needed some time away from the now empty lookout, to put his own thoughts in order and straighten his heart. He needed distraction and seemed like fate was on his side as, after less than an hour there, he watched an odd scene. Two policemen approached a red-haired woman and a large bird, saying she needed permit to have him there, but then the bird started speaking and that seemed to solve the situation, as that would categorize him as a zoan, and not a pure animal. Galen scratched the back of his head, a little confused with the scene, but continued to approach nonetheless.
The duo seemed somehow lost and being on their position plenty of times during his travels in the past years, Galen could relate to that feeling, and that made him smile subtly and giggled a bit. This scene was enough to lighten his heart of most of its concerns. – Don’t worry, they just get anxious over anything that is different. Can’t really blame them, right? It’s not every day they see someone like you, mister bird! – he said in a gentle and respectful tone.

"Heyyy!!! Well if it isn't Valentine. I'd know that redheaded bastard from anyone. Hey asshole! Don't you hear us speaking to you?" By us he obviously meant the rather large group of common thugs with him and once upon a time they would have been a major threat but Valentine didn't even need his senses to know how inferior these men were. So instead of taking their bait; he'd allow the predator to turn himself into unsuspecting prey. He had been walking an alley-way on the way to check up on his old hiding spot/apartment when he'd gotten heckled by these wanna-bees.
But it probably wasn't there fault at all, they simply suffered from a rather deadly case of ignorance. Valentine's back remained facing them as he refused to give such trash the time of day as he stood there stoically. You see, Valentine eyes were finally open to the universe and space beyond. He's seen gods battle before him leaving him helpless and ultimately in the way as his new friend Houri sacrificed himself in the name of peace. The group of thugs began to walk closer towards Valentine's current location but he remained still with his back turned towards them. "Word on the street is. . you've given up you're little Empire and thus you're only protection. I told you I was going to catch you slippin on day. Come on boys."
Like a herd of sheep; his thugs followed him to the slaughter as they seemingly struck Valentine in the back of the head. But the boss quickly realized that he felt nothing through-out the whole punch and now felt a weight on his head. Valentine in all his arrogance stood on top of the main thug's head with only one foot to balance. Valentine laughed before allowing the man to feel his full weight and a light hint of power that sent him crumbling to the ground. Valentine felt good after taking an ass whooping by the hands of his current teacher Saki and then by the Anubian Weiser. But the joy was only short-lived as he knew that he gained nothing for playing with children.
Unsheathing his katana in a lighting flash motion before sealing it back up with in it's sheath. Every man in the group lost their right arm and luckily for them that he did not choose their heads. The cut was so clean that it took a moment before blood being rushing out their respective arms as the collapsed on the ground in pain. "Yes writhe like the worms you are and I better not ever see your faces again." Valentine would then seemingly disappear but truthfully he was simply moving too fast for them to see but he ended up about to crash into Galen as he wasn't paying attention and could only slow down enough not to harm the young boy. However, if Valentine did actually crash into Galen; he'd feel like he ran into a wall thanks to Galen's immense ki presence. But either way, Valentine had already reverted back to his stoner/happy go lucky persona while apologizing profusely.
"Sorry. I honestly wasn't paying attention to where I was going!"

Hwa-Jae looked around as the crowd that they attracted seemed to disperse and was grateful for it. She did not want to get into trouble with the local law enforcement simple because she walked into the city with a hikui bird. Thankfully the police accepted Koge's sentience and moved on with little more than a warning. That she could live with. Now she needed to plan their stay in West City and make it a short one. The next destination after Mount Kiwi was Mount Frappe, the highest point in the Cold Regions. If she was going to survive the trek up the mountain, she would need plenty of food and warm clothes as well.
While Hwa-Jae planned their West City activities, Koge blinked as he heard someone address him. He craned his neck and stared at the young man who addressed him. "They shouldn't get too nervous," Koge said to the man, "I'm just travelling with my friend here. It's not like I'm going to eat any of them, I just enjoy a nice snack of fire."
"Hey, Hwa-Jae!" Koge said as he poked her with his beak, "There's this other human looking guy here, and he knows how to show proper respect to a distinguished hikui bird like myself. From now on I want to be 'Mister Koge of Mount Kiwi the Distinguished.'"
"No." Hwa-Jae leapt off of Koge's back and landed in front of the man who wore a sword strapped to his back. With hands clasped in front of her, she bowed to him in greetings. "My name is Seuta Hwa-Jae, novice of the Kasai Hato Katachi Temple, and this is my travelling companion, Koge the hikui bird. It is a pleasure to meet you."
She studied him a little closer and took note that he did not appear to be a typical city dweller. The sword was a dead give away for starters. Not many citizens of West City travelled with large arms in their sheaths on their back. His dress was also different from what she had seen when first arriving in town. Perhaps he was a traveller much like her? There was also the fact that he carried a strong amount of ki within his body, far more than the average person. His disposition was friendly enough though. Maybe the would get along; Hwa-Jae certainly would like that. Koge seemed to like him due to the flattery, at least.
"Are you from around West City at all?" she asked, hoping to get some directions so she could find proper supplies for Mount Frappe. "I'm looking for a place to get plenty of food and warmer clothes as I plan to head north towards the mountains."
Before she could get an answer, another man approached them by almost crashing into Galen, apparently quite confused about where he was going or who he was walking to.. There was something about the man that bothered her though. A smell in the air that came from him. A faint smell of blood.
It would not do to make accusations, so she merely kept her distance, clasped her hands in greetings and bowed. "Hello sir," she said, "I am Seuta Hwa-Jae. I was just asking Galen if he was a resident of West City. Are you one? I am looking for directions to buy provisions for my journey to the northern mountain range."
Galen giggled a bit when the bird spoke to him, saying they had no reason to be afraid. The swordsman shrugged a bit and shook his head. – Sometimes such things can’t be explained. Differences are sometimes feared. – he said and, although he didn’t like the way most humans behaved, he had to admit it. Then, he spoke to the red-haired woman, saying he appreciated the way Galen addressed to him and that made the human blush and chuckle a bit, scratching the back of his head, a little embarrassed, but also happy he had contributed to improve the mood there. Even if he didn’t mean to, the bird ended up introducing himself and Galen took a mental note of his name so that he knew how to address to him later if he needed to. Following Koge, the woman introduced herself by name and position. Galen couldn’t help but feel nostalgic when she said that she helped in a temple and he immediately remembered his time training at the Orin Temple.
– Nice to meet you, miss Seuta. I’m Galen, a swordsman from the East. I was also trained in a temple a long time ago! Orin Temple. – he paused briefly. – Don’t know if you ever heard about it. – he said. He also blushed a bit more when she was analyzing him, which also made him gulp. ”Is anything wrong with me? She is looking at me like… Like if she is bothered by something…” he thought, feeling slightly nervous. Still, when she spoke again was to ask him if he was from West City and adding that she wanted to buy supplies for a trip. Galen’s nervous expression gave its place to a much more relieved and happy expression and he quickly cleared his throat to speak again.
– I’m not from here, but I’ve travelled all across the world, so I can help you find a good place to buy things! I’m experienced with that. If you want to go buy it, then let’s… Wow! – before he could even finish speaking, a guy coming out of nowhere crashed onto him, sending Galen to the ground, where he landed on top of his butt. The human swordsman grimaced a bit. – Ouch! – he groaned. The red-haired man who crashed onto him apologized and Galen shook his head as he got back to his feet. – It’s fine… Just be careful! You could’ve hit an old person or a child. – once back up, he tapped his clothes to clean them from the dust of the ground, and then the smile returned to his face. – Are you alright, mister? Why are you in such a hurry? – he asked.
Valentine couldn't help but curse himself as he realized that this situation would only further delay him. But perhaps feigning as if he'd been with this group the whole time would help him blend in; just in case someone happened to stumble upon those injured men before Valentine could completely disappear. Worst came to worse; Valentine now knew flight and was confident he could out fly any jet or helicopter for that matter. Now whether these two would let him evade capture were another thing and as Valentine gazed at the both of them; he couldn't help but note their squeaky clean look.
While it was possible both of them also held pasts drenched in darkness; Valentine was willing to bet that they were as 'goodie goodie' as he thought. He also didn't particularly know what type of game the guy he managed to run into was playing at. He could feel that this man was leagues away from him in terms of strength in even her base form. However, he allowed himself to be knocked down by Valentine or had Valentine truly surprised the man? This would be something new to Valentine who thought one couldn't be taken by surprise after a certain level of power.
When Hwa-Jae began to speak; Valentine was kind of caught of guard because he'd never expected such formality and honor from a stranger. Valentine has lived most of his life as a drug dealer and generally living around some of the most brutal killers who had not yet discovered their talent for ki. And as such; though he's been graced by more than a few spoiled and beautiful women in his life, Valentine was moved by this seemingly simple gesture. Valentine found himself about to return her bow for a second before stopping himself by reminding himself who he was.
Gritting his teeth for a moment before placing his mask of being a carefree stoner back in place. A hand went up to scratch his head while forcing an equally easy going smile on his face as he answered Hwa-Jae's question. "Actually, you could say I was raised in this area kinda. Ah that depends on what type of provisions you speak of? Simple food and water or that and to restock any weapons you may have? I can help you find either of course." It was around this time that Galen asked Valentine about why he was in a hurry.
Without missing a beat, Valentine coughed before saying "I'd ran into a rather unsavory part of my past and wished to avoid any further problems." See Valentine existed within shades of grey that sometimes threatened darkness but other times boasted a blinding light. He had not way of knowing whether Galen had some sort of lie detector ability so he told the truth without having to truly tell the full truth. Still, Valentine attempted to change the subject by glancing at the bird floating rather close to the group now that Valentine had time to pay attention. "Hey, I'm guessing the little one is a friend of you guys?"
Hwa-Jae kept her smile for Galen as he got her name wrong. It was a common mistake with the way she introduced herself to people. "No no," she said, "Seuta is my family name. My personal name is Hwa-Jae. I guess I'm just used to the old fashioned method of introductions. I'm not exactly one for formalities in regards to my name, so go ahead and call me Hwa-Jae. My parents taught me this and it stuck with me for years. "As far as the Orin Temple, I've never heard of it. I'd like to see it when I have the time to do so. Right now, finding supplies for my journey is my main priority."
Thankfully, Galen appeared to know his way around, as did the individual who bumped into him. Hwa-Jae was still rather uncertain about that man and the smell that came off him. When the man suggested that she could find provisions for herself and to restock her weapons, Hwa-Jae raised a hand. "I'm just looking to get some food and warm clothes for when I go to the Northern Regions. I don't like weapons. If I have to fight, I use my hands. I can control them and the damage they dole out."
When the man asked about Koge and called him "little", the hikui bird stood up to his full ostrich-like height. He looked at the man with the odd smell and peered at him with a critical eye. "Who are you calling 'little', human?" He said, "I am a hikui bird of great stature! If you think I'm small, then how about my beak?"
"Koge, that's enough," Hwa-Jae scolded. She inclined her head to the man. "Sorry, my friend Koge is a bit, shall we say, proud of his appearance. He's really quite harmless and a good friend. Anyway, I didn't catch your name, but you mentioned something about a dark past following you? Are you in trouble?"
Hwa-Jae then peered at the two as they both revealed they knew a thing or two about West City. This was good for her. "You two know how to get around West City? That's great. I'd like to get plenty of food and clothes for my journey. We can travel together. Maybe we can help you against the ones who can't seem to leave you alone?"
The bird seemed less than pleased when the hasty boy called him “little”, and Galen just blinked twice, still trying to proper comprehend the situation, without saying a word for that while. Then, when Hwa-Jae spoke to him, saying that Seuta was her family name, he made a nod. – Oh, I’ve noticed that… I just… Well, my parents always told me to treat everyone in a polite fashion and it became part of me, miss Seuta! – he said, before she continued to say that she didn’t know the Orin temple, which was a shame; Galen really wanted to know how the monks were doing after so many years. Then, as an answer to the boy who crashed onto Galen, she explained that she required only provisions, since her hands were all the weapon she needed, making Galen stare with the corner of his dark eyes to his sword and giggle a bit.
– Call him mister Koge. It’s better this way! Politeness is never enough! – Galen said in a kind and helpful tone before Hwa-Jae asked about this dark past of his. She even offered to help him dealing with the situation and Galen nodded in agreement. – I would be more than happy to be of assistance to the both of you. Anyway, as for the clothes, if you don’t care about fancy things and are short on money, the salvation army has some decent piece of used clothes at a fair price! As for the food, we could go to the market and buy you some travel rations! They aren’t tasty, but they last long and they are really healthy! – the human swordsman said.
