Immediately after getting his hand on the scroll of his father’s school, Nasu flew back to the cavern he used as home on Paprika Wasteland. During all his way there, he could barely hold the anxiety of reading the first basic teachings of the impressive martial arts school from the Alliance. ”Damn! I really wish I could just fly faster!! I can’t wait to read this… What are the secret teachings I’ve got to master?!” he kept on wondering as he scratched the crimson skies of Earth during the dusk hours. With nightfall, Nasu also arrived on his cavern and he quickly heads towards his old damaged spacepod; it could still make some light, enough for him to start reading it. The young saiyan warrior didn’t waste any time. As soon as he got near his spacepod, he turned on the light and unwrapped the old yellowish scroll and started reading. ”Okay dad, let’s see what you say…” he nodded to himself.”Soy School of Martial Arts.
Reborn Saiyan Alliance Fighting Style.
First and foremost, I’m writing these scrolls as a memento of this school. I feel like I need to tell a bit of the origins of the Soy School, in order for the students – especially both my sons – to understand what it really means to train this martial art.
I was raised as a soldier to the wicked Saiyan Empire, and due to my low power level, I was only considered a middle-class warrior. Vegeta’s military society sends the saiyans born into elite tier to train under the best instructors of the Vegetean Fighting Academy, while the others are sent abroad to conquer planets with nothing but their spacepod, battle suit and instincts. Many of us die, no wonder the saiyan race isn’t really numerous, but this – for the Empire’s standards – serve as a sort of “natural selection”. You can either survive this intense test and bring profit back to the Empire, or die trying; another saiyan will come to fill your place and maybe succeed where you fail, and you won’t be even on the records.
It’s a rough society, a society of ruthless, almost brainless warriors, and I was never quite fit into it. Ever since my birth I was kinder than most, and had the luck of being sent to a planet called Felucia, where the sentient species was kind and caring. I was adopted by a native and, luckily, they knew some sort of fighting technique that involved quite a lot of grappling. This is where I’ve learned the basic for my lariat skills.
Then, after the accident, where I killed all of the felucians, I was back on Vegeta, where I stayed for a year. On this short period of time I had the opportunity to spend some time with my father, and he trained me further, to develop a more saiyan-like fighting style. My father was also a middle-class, self-taught warrior, but far more seasoned than I was, and he also had learned quite a lot with my mother, who was the leader of their platoon, and one of the fiercest middle-class warriors of all the planet. Their technique, as I see now, wasn’t really refined, but they knew where to hit and how hard to hit, just needed some intense polishing, but I have to admit, my father’s training was crucial for my survival on my next planet, Argavat.
On Argavat, the population was cruel and bloodthirsty and they tried to kill me plenty of times, even when I tried approaching them with a diplomatic posture. The struggle I suffered when I was there allowed me to refine the skills I had learned with both the felucians and my father, and with a little bit of luck into the mix, I’ve managed to survive and conquer that second and last planet in my résumé. When I was back to Vegeta again, I was almost an adult, and I’ve met a man named Aspa, who would’ve become my best friend and comrade. He was an elite warrior and had a very consistent fighting style – which I took many of its principles into the creation of the Soy School. Aspa was also extremely disciplined, and with him I’ve learned that in order to become better, one has to master the very first virtue of the Soy School: Discipline.
To become a true martial artist, you must first have a strong mental discipline that will allow you to follow the intense training and keep on going even when your body is on the point of breaking down. But that’s not just it. The body is the first one to give up! The mind is the real problem! A true martial artist must have a complete discipline over their mind! They have to develop the ability to understand their own feelings and use them as fuel for accomplishing what they want! Those emotions can never truly control the martial artist, since they are tools, not the wheel.
Therefore, the first training is to develop mental discipline. My proposition to the one reading this scroll is: go to a desolated area, a forest or something, and rest under a tree, after a rainfall. Place your head under a leaf that constantly drops water and wait for it to stop. You must not move at all and keep on getting hit by the drop of water on the very same place for as long as it’s needed. You will fill anger, you will feel desperation, but your mind must have enough discipline to go on. If you fail, rest for an hour and try again until you succeed.
That’s the first lesson: Mental Discipline.
Grand-Master Natto.
Nasu had to read it another couple times, and with every time he read it, he narrowed his eyes further. ”You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me… This is the training?! Goddammit, dad!! Call something annoying and it won’t even compare to this!!” he snorted and threw the scroll to the side of the cavern, getting up and walking across it, snorting a couple more times, with his hand on his waist. He was pissed off with the training, but he knew he would have to endure it. There was no way he could trick the computer his grandmother made and claim he had dominated the Mental Discipline. And after he thought about that, he deeply sighed and shrugged. ”And, fuck… If I don’t have enough discipline, all of this will be completely pointless… So… I may just swallow my anger and do as he says… If my father and mother managed to dominate such skill, being as hot headed as they were, I’m pretty damn sure I can do it too! Better!” Nasu smirked with the corner of his mouth, feeling rather confident and excited with the idea that had just crossed his mind. ”I will freaking dominate this damn skill in a single day! And that stupid hologram will have to recognize my greatness! Hahahaha!” he said to himself, chuckling quite a lot. Then, it was decided, he would start this training on the following day, as he was already too tired. ”Part of me wants to do it right away, but this is a patience test and I’m already too tired and slightly irritated to undertake such a trail… I’ve gotta be smart in order to harvest all of my potential. A night of sleep will do more good than harm!” he said to himself, as he entered his spacepod, to sleep in the comfort of his seat.
The young saiyan warrior woke up early on the following day and quickly eat something and drank enough water so that he could endure the day worth of training. – Okay now… Searching for a rain! – he nodded to himself, and quickly flared his ghostly-white ki aura around his body, flying away from his cavern. Nasu stared at the sky and he saw some dark clouds gathering a little further to the west, around a forest area he knew about. – Now this is just perfect! Seems like fate is on my side! Hahaha!! – he said to himself, feeling like butterflies had just taken over his stomach. After about ten minutes, Nasu was already on the forest area and the rain was already stopping which only made things even more perfect. The young saiyan landed swiftly on the wet grassy ground and walked in search of a perfect tree. After a short while, he found a big maple tree with plenty of leaves dropping water constantly. Nasu nodded to himself twice in a quick motion and chose a particular one that was really close to the trunk, so he could lean his back on it and have a less annoying time. ”Well... Guess it’s about time to start this damn training…” he said to himself and afterwards he sit underneath the drops of water, leaning his back on the trunk. The drops kept on hitting the top of his head quickly and he didn’t really care at first. ”Really? It’s just this? Seems like piece of cake, but there’s got to be some sort of trick into it… It wouldn’t be that easy, right?” he wondered, but then, unable to reach an answer, he shrugged and waited there, feeling every single drop of water hitting his head without any bother.
However, after about ten minutes there, the drops of water felt like they were a finger constantly poking him on the same spot, like an irritating younger sibling. Nasu had folded his arms and closes his eyes, trying to remain calm, and he accomplished that for a little while, until another ten minutes passed. ”Fuck this shit! This is endless!!” he muttered to himself, as he felt the annoying drops over and over again, as they became somehow stronger and more irritating. A vein had already popped out on his left temple, and he was getting really stressed with that. Then, another ten minutes had passed, and Nasu had two large veins popping out on both his temples, his eyes were wide open and clearly irritated, and he would growl every now and then. After other ten minutes, the young saiyan was with his hands on his legs in a tight grip that was making his legs sore. His eyes were already red with the blood on the veins, as he felt like someone was hammering his head constantly; he had a terrible headache now and wanted to blow everything to dust. – SHIT!!! IS THIS FUCKING TRAINING EVER GONNA END?!?! HOW FUCKED UP IS A PERSON TO COME UP WITH SUCH BULLSHIT?! MENTAL DISCIPLINE MY ASS!!! THIS IS FUCKING TORTURE!!!! – he screamed with all his lungs, while his spirit fought against the burning desire to leave everything behind and drop the training. To be completely honest, Nasu had no idea how he managed not to drop the training at that point, but his sheer determination to follow on his father’s footsteps, the man he admired the most, along with the constant humiliation he had been suffering on the hands of the albino saiyan every time they faced each other helped him find enough resolve to keep on pushing himself towards his very limit. Then, after resisting for more half an hour, the rate of the dropping reduced and it started to feel less annoying. His terrible headache was almost leaving him unconscious, but the sudden relief made him wake from his almost suspended animation state. – Uhn? It’s… Becoming less annoying.. – the curiosity of such thing made him capable of resisting more and more, and, with time, his mind began to ignore the nuisances of the water hitting on top of his head, until he wasn’t really caring anymore. Nasu had found peace among his deep fury; it wasn’t easy, but he did that and, after another twenty minutes, the water was finally gone.
Since he had got used to that, it took him about two minutes to realize that. ”Wait, what?” Nasu stopped and arched one of his eyebrows, feeling rather puzzled as he focused his sensations on his head; and there was nothing. He put his right hand there just to make sure of it, and it was confirmed: the water was gone. An immense sense of relief took over his heart, which was quickly substituted by an uncanny excitement! He had finished the very first step of his training on the Soy School, and now he was ready for the second part. ”HAHAHA! I DID IT!!!” he celebrated with a loud laugh as he got back on his feet. – I told you, father!! I would accomplish this annoying training in a single day!!! Just you wait and see! In a matter of months I will be the new master of the Soy School!!! I will make a name for myself and honor your memory by becoming even stronger than you ever were!! Watch me! Hahahaha! – he announced with a proud tone.
Nasu had just finished mastering the first discipline, but there was still a long road ahead of him.
