It was a pretty quiet day on Earth, which was something that you’d never expect considering all the amount of crap that happened most of the times on the blue marble. Cornatto talked from experience considering he had been born there in the first place and had been there around the era of the Saiyan invasion in the first place even if, considering how much time had passed, was only an old nightmare that Cornatto himself had somewhat forgotten about, it had been like what? More than twenty or thirty years ago?. More or less, considering it had been one of the reasons that involved him with the Alliance-- or well, it was the very same thing that caused the Alliance to be born in the first place.
Speaking of the Alliance, it had been a while since the Earthling Saiyan got in touch with any of them. He couldn’t tell how some of the people there had taken his absence; pretty sure some considered him a coward for having left after that stuff with the war and all, but Cornatto had his own reasons about that. He didn’t really feel like hanging around would have helped him at all, not to mention that the loss of a good friend and also mentor had hit him too. He needed some time away, but that break also hit his strength that had somewhat decreased his battle power; he was rusty, but he could easily find a solution. Or rather, bring himself back to shape if he wanted. It felt like all he needed was a little push, that was all he felt missing.
Or, well. They could as well have thought that he had died, but thankfully it didn’t happen yet. Even if he wondered what happened after one's death at times; would one’s soul just get lost? It was definitely a good question!
He guessed that he would have found out the day he’d die himself-- even if it wasn’t really the greatest of things to think about, nor did he really have any rush to die. On the other hand, he wanted to live for as much as time as he had left!
Cornatto was legitimately doing the weirdest of things at the moment; he was sitting on a boat made out of wood, in the middle of the ocean. The Earthling Saiyan had always been the kind of person that preferred the wonders of mother nature herself instead of the civilization, and for some reason, he thought that meditating in the middle of nothing would have an innovative way to meditate. However, there was one little issue.
“I… I’m hungry…” - he whined under his breath, biting his lower lip as all sorts of noises were audible from his stomach. He hadn’t thought this through; else he’d have likely expected this to happen.
The Earthling Saiyan’s eyes were firmly closed, trying to ignore the hunger that was taunting him; he wanted to keep it up at least for a little while, without having to fly off the boat just to go look for food. It could as well be considered some sort of… hunger resistance training? No, that was impossible. A Saiyan’s metabolism could never resist much without food anyways, no matter what.
However, something caught him off guard as he suddenly heard a huge thud that forced him to open his eyes. His boat suddenly halted, as if something suddenly stopped it from moving, and the momentum pushed the Saiyan over the edge of the boat as he suddenly fell on the ground.
The man grunted, laying there for a few moments before he lifted himself up and opened his eyes, the first thing he took note of was the sand below his boots, and all over his attire. “Uh… am I on a beach?” - he thought to himself while shaking the dust off his clothes.
“Well, I guess this is the end to the whole boat stuff.” - he said to himself and lifted up his gaze to have a look around; glancing around only made him realize that he had apparently found some sort of island in the middle of nowhere; it was average-sized but it wasn’t really that big at all. However, it looked like someone lived there considering there was a little pink house that the owner had apparently named ‘Kame House’, or at least that was what he could see on its front.
“Huh. Wonder who would ever live here…” - he muttered under his breath.
“I do!”
Cornatto had thought that he was alone on the island, so the man obviously jumped when he heard someone’s voice, widening his eyes as he looked for whoever had spoken up. It was an animal-looking person who wore a pair of sunglasses and traditional dress, who was laying down on some recliner while holding a book with his hands. And whatever he was reading, it seemed pretty much interesting considering he didn’t even look at the Saiyan.
“Oh. Yo! Hehe, I admit you’ve kinda taken me by surprise. I didn’t notice ya.” - said the man, as to which the old rat replied with a nod of his head.
“You look like a determined one, what’s a fella like you doing all the way out here?”
Cornatto cracked a faint grin, rubbing her back of his neck in slight embarrassment.
“Well, ya see… I was just tryin’ something out with my boat, and I ended up here. --Oh, also! Do ya have something to eat? I’m kinda thirsty right now, hehe.”
And it was that then old rat focused his gaze on the Saiyan, apparently discarding his so precious magazine or whatever it was and stood up, staring at the man intently.
“Hmmm. How about this. If you can manage to land at least three hits on me, I’ll let you eat something.”
The Earthling Saiyan's eyebrow rose, and his grin grew into a huge smirk, launching his fist against his other’s palm as he cracked his knuckles. “That’s all? Haha, all right then. I’m in!”
“However! If I hit you three times, you’ll get off my island… by swimming.”
Cornatto was somewhat taken by surprise from the old man’s request, but he guessed that he had no other choice than agreeing to his deal, after all there was little chance that he was going to lose that quickly. Although he had to say, that the idea of swimming for about twelve kilometers or so wasn’t that appealing at all.
“Ready?”
Both fighters lowered down in their respective fighting stances; the old man’s was unknown to the Saiyan, who instead was using the traditional posture of the Soy Arts.
“Ready!”
After that, the old rat rushed at superhuman speed towards the Earthling Saiyan, who was impressed but yet he wasn't quick enough for him not see through his movements.
“Jan Ken!”
The old man suddenly launched a fist at the taller man who, did nothing else other than responding with his own fist, intercepting the Zoanthrophe’s with ease. “Gu!” - exclaimed the animal before he rose from the ground and attempted to strike the black-haired man in the eyes with his fingers, but ultimately failed as Cornatto’s head turned and dodged the pair of fingers. “Chyoki!”
Cornatto was somewhat confused as to what the old man was up to, but then he felt a stinging pain on his face as the rat’s palm opened and hit the Saiyan’s face. “Pa!!”
The Earthling Saiyan took a few steps back, holding his face with his hands for a brief moment while he mumbled under his breath.
“Auch auch… I didn’t see that one coming.”
The old rat let out a faint chuckle, shaking his head slowly. “No good. That was only one hit out of three. But, it's still more than what you’ve done as of now.”
Cornatto took his hands off his face, revealing a little smile that was slowly cracking its way on the man’s face. “Hehe, I didn’t see that one coming! You’re not bad at all, old man. But now…”
The Earthling Saiyan switched once more to his fighting stance; his hand half-clenched and placed close to the face, his knees and elbows bent a little, but most importantly his other arm was bent at a 90° angle and placed close to his hips. The man held this stance only for a brief moment before he charged forward at the old rat, whose speed wasn’t enough to keep up for the Saiyan as the man replicated the move he had used earlier.
“Jan Ken-- Gu!”
Despite the man’s speed, the Zoan managed to block the punch that the Saiyan threw at him, however he was suddenly struck in the eyes by his two fingers. “Chyoki!” - exclaimed the man before pushing the old rat away as he hit him with his palm right in the face. “Pa!!”
The palm strike pushed the old rodent away, and this one time he looked more painful than the Saiyan was earlier. On the other hand, Cornatto cracked a grin as he placed his hands on his hips.
“Hehe! I win. So, where’s my food?”
The Zoanthrophe rubbed his face with his little hands for a brief moment before lowering his hands back down to his hips and stared at the Earthling Saiyan intently through his sunglasses.
“Hmmm… you’ve got some talent there, my friend. I wouldn’t have ever expected that you were going to use my move against this old man, tehehe. Well done. I guess you do deserve the access to my fridge. But…”
The Earthling Saiyan blinked, frowning a little bit. “C’mon, don’t tell me I gotta do something else now…”
“No, no… Say, have you ever considered bringing out your latent skills through martial arts?”
Cornatto tilted his head slightly, folding his arms over his chest. “My… latent skills? Uhh, I’m pretty sure I did that already. I mean, I had learned the Soy Arts a long time ago!”
The old man raised an eyebrow, staring at him in the eyes through his sunglasses.
“Soy Arts? Hmmm, I’ve never heard of anything like that around here.”
Cornatto was not surprised; after all its mentor resided on Planet Natto, not to mention that this old man lived in the middle of nowhere. But, he had somewhat caught his interest; whoever this old timer was, he felt slightly stronger than the average humans, and his technique seemed pretty good too.
“Err, who would you ever be?”
The old rat smirked, his eyes gleaming with confidence under his sunglasses.
“Tehehe, well I’m no one else other than the legendary Kamesennin, my friend.”
The Earthling Saiyan stared at him blankly, evidently not realizing what was so unique about his title or whatever it was supposed to be.
“Kamesennin?... What is that? You look after turtles?”
The man’s comment immediately struck the old rat’s confidence, who almost felt like falling to the ground. The Zoanthrophe raised his voice in disbelief, frowning at the Saiyan.
“W-wait! Do you mean that you’ve never heard of the legendary Turtle Hermit?!”
Cornatto shook his head slowly in response to his question, to which the old rat reacted to with a sigh.
“Good grief… youngsters nowadays have no idea of what martial arts are anymore. The Turtle School is one of the eldest schools ever formed on Earth and has formed some of the strongest fighters that ever existed.”
Cornatto widened his eyes as he listened intently to the old man’s speech, evidently interested about the matter. He had never considered the option of investigating about any precise fighting style on Earth-- or well, not at all. He didn’t think it’d have helped him more than so back then, until Natto offered his support time ago when he was still part of the Alliance. And he had to say, that the idea of giving this Turtle School a try was definitely tempting.
“Ooh, sounds interesting! Please, show me what you can do, Kamesennin!” - exclaimed the man, both his fists curled into excitement.
The Zoan grinned, turning his back on the Saiyan as he walked to the edge of the beach. Cornatto eyed him curiously, rather unsure whether he was going to show him anything or just stare at literally nothing but the ocean. Then, all of a sudden the old rat put his hands together and focused his ki all in one point, a blue ki orb glowing in his hands as Cornatto watched in awe.
“Kamehameha!!” - cried out the rat as he launched his hands forward and shot a powerful ki wave, causing the waters to split for a brief moment-- or to be precise until the ki wave faded away.
“Woah, that was cool! What was that?”
The old rat turned around, bursting out in a faint laughter. “It seems I’m still not that old after all. Well, my friend, that was the Kamehameha. It’s an ancient technique developed by the creator of the school Muten Roshi, who’s then passed on to Master Krillin and so on until I became the Kamesennin. I tell you, though, this one technique took me fifty or so years to learn! So you’ll-- hey, are you listening to me?!”
“Kaaaa...meee…”
Despite the old man’s warning, the Earthling Saiyan had already joined the old man to the edge of the beach, he bent his knees slightly and drew back his arms. The man cupped his palms together, charging up the ki in his hands. “Haaaa...meee… HAAAAAHHH!!!”
Then, the man thrust his hands forward and unleashed a bright, and wide wave of energy that made the waters completely tear apart.
“W-WHAAAAT!?!” - exclaimed the old rat in awe, watching the man executing the technique he had worked so much for in literally a matter of seconds. And that was more or less the amount of time that passed until the ki wave faded away.
“So… you do it like that, right?” - asked the man, cracking a faint grin as he looked at the Kamesennin who had frozen on spot. He couldn’t believe that the man had literally just managed to use the Kamehameha without much of a lesson other than watching him doing it.
“Hey?... Are ya there, Kamesennin?” - he asked, tilting his head as he eyed the Zoanthrophe.
The Kamesennin cleared his throat, looking up at the taller man. “Tehehe… well, I didn’t see that one coming. At this point, it’s only fair that I train you… but don’t be way too enthusiastic about this! You still have much to learn if you want to get nowhere in my school.” - he said, trying to sound somewhat severe to the Saiyan who immediately replied to with a nod.
“Thanks, Kamesennin!”
“Well, guess I owe you lunch then.” - The rat offered a nod of his head before turning around, walking towards the small habitation, however before stepping inside, the rat passed by the seat the man had found him laying onto earlier and lifted up the book, tossing him in Cornatto’s way-- who immediately caught it with his hand.
“Here. Have that in the meanwhile.”
“Huh… what is this? Is it about martial arts?”
The rat chuckled, shaking his head slowly. “More or less.” - he said, stepping inside the house as he went to make lunch.
Cornatto blinked, eyeing the magazine for a brief moment before opening it as he found… material that one couldn’t read unless they were of legal age. The Earthling Saiyan’s cheeks immediately lit up before he threw the object away, evidently flustered from the images he had just seen.
“C’mon… that's terrible, old geezer!”
He could swear that he heard him burst out in a huge laughter that was audible even from the outside. And that was only the beginning of his training.
