How easy would it have been to just conquer this planet?
It was a question she asked herself, time and time again. An idea that she played with in her mind, outlining the pieces of what could work, and what wouldn't. For one, she was rather uncertain on just how much strength those who considered themselves the guardians of this planet, actually held.
There was that one swordsman whose power was a bit more than her own back then, but as someone who appeared to be human, she doubted it was the same now. They had an extent that they could handle when it came to training, unlike she and most of her nonhuman forces. But that could only be blamed on genes.
Even without knowing the extent of their power, she could at least reasonably estimate it would likely be within the millions. Earth had survived many battles since the time of the Briefs family, looking at all their past records and the like. There always seemed to be someone here on earth, strong enough to combat any threat that could have imposed themselves onto the city. To have her own forces fight off such a power, would very likely result in death.
Her own reputation, no matter what power she could gain as time went on, would be forever tarnished on this planet. The laws and the like structured here, made that rather certain to do. She and those involved with her, if not facing death, were likely to be exiled. Shown a lack of trust from there on out.
It was too problematic to be seen that way. Not what she had envisioned for herself, or those under her care. And yet, there was always someone who so adamantly believed that she would actually do such a thing. Never would she have denied that it wouldn't have been possible. There were many reasons to play the role of a Villain, like blaming the world for a life that was lost. The most typical in her eyes however, had to have been the self-fulfilling prophecy.
One who was encouraged through accusation that they were a Villain, and thus, were maddened enough to delude themselves into believing that it was true. That so could have easily fit her, just as much as conquering the world for losing those she cared for. It was suffering, after all, to deal with either.
Whether she had succeeded or not, each and every time she had thought about trying to conquer the planet, she had always concluded it would have been easy. Buildings and the like would be destroyed by the time reinforcements arrived, which was really the point in attacking the area in the first place.
To cause those who lived in the area to spend money repairing such an infrastructure, then preparing to ward off those trying to stop such a thing. It would always be a losing battle, for the amount of evil in the world, was too suppressed to really see a difference in the favor of anyone trying to conquer.
Yes, it would have been a waste to conquer. At least, this particular planet. Earth was too well noted among other life, to just go and attack. Her own forces could never be enough. For the life that she had envisioned, it would be far more simplistic instead, to go and conquer some planet in space.
There was value in going in such a direction, but not the kind that she sought. Whether that would continue to matter in her eyes, once she and the others had become Antediluvians, was what would be questioned later on. All she knew was certain now, was that it wasn't necessary to rush her plans.
They would come to fruition when the opportunity had came. It was better to focus on other prospects until then, rather than continuing to dwell in temptations and what could be. The mechanical whirring of the drill she was using, echoed in her ears along with the occasional sound that came, looking over blueprints. She still didn't have all the tools and materials she wanted, especially back here in her mansion, but it would suffice.
Project Android she found to be rather simple, although quite aware of its controversy. With how easily humans were likely to go extinct, given that they were practically a canvas for other properties to make them better, it was easier to wipe the base out, and convert them into Androids.
One which would to the best of the data it was given, be able to replicate what it was meant to replace. The problem with doing so in terms of a mass production, was depleting her own kin on what blood it would have to feast on, in regards to this particular planet. They would wind up having to move, by the time such a project was finished, but that was just a cost she was willing to impose on her kind, if it meant making use of the canvas here.
Besides, with the few she was already in the process of making, there was no harm at the moment, really. Some people simply couldn't move on from those they had lost. This was to serve as a replacement. The hardest and most difficult part, was perfecting the eye coordination other scientists had achieved.
She had seen so many old records which had guided her into starting the base of this endeavor, in the first place. But the focus in those documents were more concerned with the personality, and how to make the body feel lifelike. Rather necessary factors for sure, but still an annoyance in her eyes.
"Beginning eye coordination testing."
Pressing down the top of their head, exposing the circuitry within, the Android had blinked itself awake. It had such a resemblance to the human blonde that she knew in her more personal life, yet, testing out its eyes with a rather thin flashlight, that stare just didn't capture what she had knew.
The Android and what 'will' it was supposed to carry, didn't seem as if it was strong enough to go against its internal programming either. She wanted to see it act without her prompting, and invoke the same kind of emotion she envisioned the project was supposed to bring to the table.
But it was unsurprisingly difficult to carry out the work of a scientist on her own. What she had already done to it so far, was more mimicking what was demonstrated to her, than anything else. The difficulty came with understanding what she had wanted the thing to do, and surpass what others couldn't.
"Subject still displays failure in capturing likeness. The one holding the appearance it takes after was known for her closed eye smiles from the moment she saw someone she knew."
A sigh had escaped her, as she looked elsewhere in her room, which furniture had to be pushed aside here and there, just to fit what she was performing. Her mind held the slightest bit of hope that it would rise from the table on its own, though turning back to it, she found that it had remained still.
"I can't help but be reminded of his lifeless projects, and his seeming satisfaction of not breaking away from their serious demeanors."
Her business partner for that shipping company that she had invested in, came to mind looking at its lying body. He was the scientist that had helped her start her own, as difficult as it was to even get him to. Surpassing his work was the thing she so desired to do the most, when it came to this prospect.
He had more knowledge than she did with these things, and possibly could give her own employees at Capsule Corp a rough time as well. She had not the slightest doubt he could do what she was looking for, but to go and ask him for more help, she was as willing to do as simply handing her position over.
Her stake in the corporation, what with all the countermeasures she so meticulously continued to establish, was something she would have to give up on her own will. Simple measures like threatening the life of those she knew, wouldn't certainly matter, with both what faith she had in them, and this project here itself. They could be replaced given the time. The reason why she had stopped herself from worrying too much about her parents and other family.
There were those who would disagree with such a thing, and the likeness of this Android, which was only one of a handful, had even agreed it was odd. Something she couldn't really go and deny. But she absolutely refused to go the easier route of simply converting a human into an Android.
People could have an issue with this project of hers all they wanted, but they couldn't say she was doing what they might have expected. Artificial intelligence could be perfected in something completely mechanical. She knew it could. She just couldn't yet figure it all out. She needed more time.
"Beginning testing of personality construction."
"Yo! Watcha got here?"
The machine had gotten up by her command, hopping off the gurney that it was lying on, and raising its hand the way she was familiar with, before glancing around. Despite the fluid movements it had performed, it had stopped and turned back towards her after the simple line, ignoring the continued lack of emotion in its eyes. Blinking still wasn't anything she had been able to have it produce either. Matters she was aware could be solved with help.
But one of the things about being a Matriarch, was this longing to do this kind of work on her own. Perhaps because it involved creation, that she found the matter so appealing, rather than being as disinterested as she would with any other thing. The reason she continued to find herself disappointed.
"Subject continues to remain silent after the command, proving it still relies on trigger words, rather than lie on true conversation."
She had moved towards it, leaning her face over, and satisfyingly watched as it moved back as it should have. Invading its space, wasn't particularly accurate to the one it got its likeness from, but at this stage in her work, she preferred not to have the thing be too trusting around others.
"Beginning to measure hazard level."
"H-hey, what are you doing?"
She was fine with failing how to get it to properly invoke mimic emotions in its eyes, and failing to hold a conversation. But if there was one thing she knew she had gotten right with her lack of knowledge on mechanics, it was having this thing defend itself to the best of its ability.
Trying, wasn't something she would say she had done, when she had aimed a punch at it, and found the Android had caught her fist. She could feel it pushing it back, despite her not adding more pressure into the strike, though it was still severely weaker than even the others who were around the mansion.
"Subject shows a hazard level of 1.0 with the threat of being assaulted."
"Dude, what are you doing?!"
Letting its attempt to push her fist away succeed, the Android had silently moved back, and with the slightest twitch of a smile, she had moved forward. The room blurred around her as she had aimed a strike at it in two different places. One retesting her first attempt with more power behind the strike, while the other aimed at its gut. The tone in its voice, which had no issues replicating the original, grew more desperate, and with it had its own power.
"Hazard level seems to have jumped to 1.2, with steady increases."
Still nowhere near her own, but it was at least trying. Pushing back one of its attempts to defend itself to the side, the Android stumbled and was forced to change its posture to even keep from falling over. The grip it had on her other hand had loosened because of it, allowing her to actually hit the machine. Keeling over seemed to have worked from being hit, and so had continuing to defend itself, as she found it gripping onto her for a shove.
"Can't we talk about this?"
That was what it had at least felt like in her eyes, though something it failed to do, as she flared not even a fraction of her power. It gave up, and simply distanced itself from her, which also wasn't accurate to the original, but appropriate for what she wanted of it. The more she heard it regurgitate line after line of what the original would have said, the more she had wondered just how close she was in perfecting its dialogue options.
She was certainly closer in having its eyes actually invoke emotion, that was for sure. The Android had remained still, not seeing her move, which was a problem she so wanted to fix of it. though for now, she had gone and seen what she had wanted to see. Further testing wasn't something that was necessary.
"Testing finished."
The machine had walked itself back and onto the gurney, where it lied with its eyes closed, deactivating itself. If there was one of many disappointments about Androids, it was that she could only determine what its power was, from feeling its blows alone, rather than being able to sense it.
"Subject has the potential to reach a hazard level of 3.0, where it's expected to reach fluidity on its own. Whether it will have an identity crisis at that point or not, shall be determined, as it currently shows inaccuracies of the original's personality."
But what she couldn't sense of it, would prove to be an advantage, should she ever use these things for combat. She doubted they would ever go beyond what her expected projections when it came to growth. The thing about machines, or rather growth in general, is that emotion was usually involved with power.
These things could fake it all they wanted, but it just wouldn't be the same. Everyone had some sort of resolve that kept them going, and a machine couldn't have possibly be able to grasp that. It could think that it did, and she knew very likely it would delude itself into believing it as well.
"You still working on that creepy project of yours?"
Proving it wrong was just one of the things in life she wouldn't have mind, even knowing it would pain her, to take out a creation of her own. The sound of footsteps, and the familiar ki signature approaching from behind her, came well before the voice of her cousin had popped in and greeted her.
It was starting to become routine than it ever had, with the girl being the one to check up on her, instead of the other way around that it used to be. That was one of the downfalls she found that came with being a Matriarch. Her attachment towards humans, even one related to her, was practically nonexistent.
But she suppressed what she could of the urge to dull out the red-head's voice, and smiled at the comment the way she knew she would have. Her cousin was never the one to really old back what she had thought of things. Even if they had all changed as the year had went by, this had still remained.
"Just finished actually. And it's still hard to say how long before it gets to where I want it to."
"I wouldn't even rush it. Like, seriously."
Her cousin had moved past her, and over to the Android resembling the girl that they both knew, who was alive like everyone else she had instructed to hide in the bunkers, back when the earth was under attacked. The original had made a similar comment, though it was more encouraged than anything else.
That was just how the girl always had been. Supportive and seeing things as amazing, rather than scary. This likeness had merely been something her friend had seen as a twin of sorts, rather than the kind of replacement others would have alluded to, seeing what her project was even consisting of.
"Still don't want to know what this stuff is, making it feel pretty real."
The red-head had brushed a finger across the deactivated Android's cheeks, and briefly even pulled at it. Giving it synthetic skin alone, was likely the easiest thing she could have done, when it came to making these machines. The technology was there and capable. It was really putting the rest together.
Turning back to her after wiping off her hand, her cousin had eyed her, the scowl normally on the girl's face, only briefly leaving as she was inspected. If memory served her right, it was just the girl's measure of reading her body language. Apparently, it was pretty easy for her cousin to read her.
"So talk to me. We both know it's weird for you to stay in here longer than 15 minutes."
"Yeah, I'm coming."
With the assumption that she was right, the girl had walked past her, gesturing with her hand to follow along. If it had been any other human, she would have easily been insulted. Wouldn't have tried as hard as she currently was, trying to stop herself from being disinterested in the girl offering a listening ear. But while her mind was disagreeing about her cousin's importance, she couldn't bring herself into questioning that the red-head wasn't.
The conflict would hopefully pass, as more power came to her.
