Sinthe "just once I would like it to not be demons"
|
Personality
Hedonist | Sealed Badass in a Can | Asshole
You would think an old as dirt demi-deity like this one would have more patience and you would be totally wrong. Brash, violent and somewhat pompous in his demeanor, Sinthe has been dropped into a universe which he no longer really understands and seems to no longer have any need of him. Having lost the might which he considered to be his definitive attribute he regularly struggles to identify or even empathize with the world around him and almost single-mindedly pursues the recovery of his strength seemingly lacking in any wider agenda.
One thing which hasn't changed is his tendency to speak candidly, blunt to the point of out-and-out rudeness he has no problem sharing his opinion even where it is not requested nor desired. So used is he to simply speaking his mind he does so in situations which are wildly unfavorable to him and where another being might waiver.
In spite of past disagreements Sinthe holds the dignity of the gods in high esteem, being despite his ingrained mistrust of Kaioshin and he will not often tolerate the lower races to impugn their honour or disrespect their names whatever he may think of the beings themselves. As such he holds the nominal servants of the powers to high standards and will be more than happy to tell them how they're doing their job wrong and why they suck at it, but critical attention is probably better than the ennui he treats most people with, caring not a jot if those around him live or die. He is, for now, content to move among them as he ever has, dropping in to their lives like a hurricane or else breezing through to find something more interesting.
There are things he's nostalgic and sentimental about though and this can be most readily observed in his treatment of children, while he would happily wipe out an entire world filled with a species' young he will, without fail come to the aid of a child under threat and obliterate anyone who assaults a youngster in his presence. He generally has more patience and warmth when dealing with them and he very much enjoys helping them grow in strength on their own.
Backstory
Sinthe was one of very few Anubians to be born naturally in distant eons before the present era, the maternal grandson of the Hakaishin Beerus through his daughter Poteia and her mate Cyd. The family lived for a time in about as much peace as a trio of destructive creatures with poor impulse control might. It became apparent early on that Sinthe had inherited his forebears' powerful appetite for destruction and the prodigious strength which so often went along with it. To say he was spoiled would be largely untrue but perhaps due to the overwhelming powers of his direct family his childish mischief was tolerated and when one was born strong enough to bust planets the word mischief took on a whole new meaning. “Boys and their toys,” his mother would always say, for there was no malice in his actions only innocence and perhaps childish ignorance.
That all started to change when his father was sent away on an errand of Godly import, leaving Sinthe to contemplate why creatures so powerful as they could not simply do as they pleased. His mother tried to explain to him from early on that they served the balance of the Universe same as the Kaioshin but that never seemed justification enough for him. He swore then that wherever he went n life he would endeavor always to remain free and it was this compulsion as much as anything else that sealed his eventual fate.
As he grew older Sinthe began to take a more active role in balancing the universe, trimming its fat and expelling the wicked and the wanton from its underbelly. Well, that was the plan anyway. More often than not he found that he rather liked the supposedly irredeemable a right sight more than the zealous and irascible Kaioshin that were his closest allies. In one instance, early on, when he was meant to fell the so-called 'Demon-Goddess' Penumbra who had used her powerful magic to enslave the populace of a dozen or so words, he liked the wicked and wanton so much that he straight up married her. While, as one might have reasonably expected were they not a world-ending fuzzy manchild, that didn't go over especially well. It was perhaps only the prospect that the grandson of Beerus would be unable to procreate if mated with someone of mortal descent for which Sinthe's actions were tolerated in the first place. Regardless, he pitied the man who would try to separate hi from his Angel of the Night.
As it happened Sinthe would still know the joys of fatherhood, only it would not be a child of his own blood, but he had already decided that Penumbra's blood was as good as his own. Her daughter Lux, still only young in the years of Demons was somewhat afraid of him at first and he had to soften his manner significantly before she would open up to him. Despite his blissful upbringing and fierce love of his mother whom Sinthe loved and admired above all others, it was Penumbra and Lux who instilled in him the notion of a family proper. Another nail in the coffin.
It was another world, another mission that Sinthe would acquire the last. At the time it seemed to be such a superb blessing, to find on a primitive, backwater world no more important than the reeking pond which its lowly denizens had sprung from a warrior who not only would not bow to him but could not in point of fact be bowed. To think that he had never heard of a Super Saiyan before. The two of them would blaze a trail across the stars in a battle the likes of which had never been seen before, worlds crumbling in their wake whenever and wherever they met. To stand so high above others, to have it be but a fact of one's own body and soul, in this Super Saiyan, Sinthe believed he had finally found a mortal whom he could understand and who could understand him given time. Mortals though, even those blessed with strength, or wisdom, or power are seldom so blessed as to have the luxury of time and so a scant few decades after their first meeting the Super Saiyan finally died. The fight that had become Sinthe's everything was left unfinished and he had naught but a few new scars and some gaudy jewelry to console him.
The experience though made him look again at the mortals he had previously derided almost without exception, he saw their struggles in a new light and they seemed less unsightly to him now and more noble in their nature. The Anubian who had stood so far above the world at large now wished to be a greater presence in it, to seek out such mortals as could compare to himself and bring them together in the hopes that doing so would make them all so much the stronger for having the experience. It didn't just worked, it worked superbly and from then on whenever Sinthe would overthrow those whom he was bidden he offered them a simple choice: service or destruction. To join with him in maintaining a balance while the God of Destruction was at their rest, or to simply cease. Thus the Wild Hunt was born, a group of warriors fierce as they were ruthless who would render evil unto evil wherever they went and leave only destruction in their wake.
These three things: freedom, family, comrades. These were the things which would ultimately destroy the destroyer of worlds.
For the time being though, he was significantly less of a problem, in his dozen or so decades of cat nap the universe would enjoy a respite from the scourge that was Sinthe and his huntsmen. Little did he know while slipping off into this blissful slumber that he would awake to a world much changed. Decades hence he woke to the sight of Penumbra, tears in her eyes, there to tell her that his mother had been killed in an encounter with an unknown alien. The thing which had been born from the heart of a dark nebula was like nothing else they had seem before, but perhaps worse it was no longer amongst the living for Sinthe to mete out his revenge on. He never really forgave Lagerus for stealing away his chance at vengeance and though he had previously always wished to one day surpass her he renewed that wish as a vow upon his mother's bones, as though proving he could have taken revenge himself would be the same thing. With no better way to vent his frustration the young destroyer burned the nebula and every planet that lay within to ashes, there would be no further surprises from there.
Poteia's death was instrumental in changing Sinthe's mind and making him more aggressive. Whereas before he lacked malice almost entirely he became bitter and cursed the misfortune of having such expansive power without the opportunity to defend or even avenge those he loved. More often now he would destroy his enemies without a second thought rather than risk them become a threat later on, though he kept the Wild Hunt close at hand since he already considered them as his own.
Seldom had the Kaioshin seen such sustained ferocity even from the God of Destruction, that an ordinary Anubian would relentlessly tear across space concerned them and in his grief they feared that the Demons and mortals with whom he consorted had corrupted him from his purpose. Penumbra in particular they believed had her claws in him and as tension mounted it appeared as though all out war would reign between the upper and lower realms. In desperation and quiet acceptance of her fate, Penumbra asked Sinthe for just one thing, that if she must die he protect Lux for her. Though he swore to it without hesitation that practicality of such a vow vexed him in the extreme. The universe was wild, unpredictable, this he knew. It had been why he loved it once upon a time but where it giveth Super Saiyans it had taken something far more precious from him.
There was only one thing to be done.
Soon after Penumbra had been killed Sinthe and his Wild Hunt began to rage across the Universe, destroying and subjugating anything that lay in their path. In the final battle Sinthe was sealed away and his most loyal Huntsmen Geki, Izz and Rune were all killed. Those that were left lived on as outlaws and looked for him afterwards but were unable to find even the merest trace of him, within a generation The Wild Hunt had become naught more than a myth which streaked over the skies of a thousand worlds as an omen of war. The truth was to remain locked away forever with Sinthe, though the Kaioshin were unable to devise a method of killing him that was not to say they could not destroy him. Sinthe was imprisoned within a jail of pure katchin with enchantments upon enchantments layered over it so that no one would ever find him, the prison would hide in plain sight, hung in the heavens as a star powered by the vast reserves of ki which it leeched out of him until nothing of his former might would remain. So with neither power, nor choice, nor even simple diversion, Sinthe waited. With a heart full of nervous energy and a body of unrivaled power it was a novelty he had never had time for previously.
He hated it.
He hated it so much that finally slipping off in to the darkened dreams of eternity was preferable. He expected and finally accepted that he would not be waking up. Then of course, thousands of years removed from anyone who had even the faintest idea of who Sinthe the Scourge was, he did.
