Munch. Munch. Chomp. Chomp.
It turns out, the man had taken her back into the village, and checked themselves into some hotel. The place wasn't as nice as the one she had been staying at with Haruto-kun and his family, but it wasn't run-down either. There just wasn't anything special about the place.
Minus the vending machines outside their room, of course. He had bought her a couple of chocolate bars, since she had lost all of her money in the incident. Although, the candy came at a cost. She had to pay him back at one point, which she didn't hesitate in agreeing to.
The amount of money he spent on these chocolates, must have been nowhere near the cost of their room. He didn't add that part into her debt, but her parents once told her not to let a favor go without being repaid. Something about it all eventually piling up, and the other person eventually owing her a favor. But personally, she didn't mind. She was pretty happy right now, and Masato didn't seem like he was that bad of a person.
He did seem to get easily agitated though. Like when she couldn't decide which candy to get, and he just offered to buy them all, instead of just the one she was supposed to have. But it was funny, and took her mind off of things. Maybe recovering wouldn't take that long after all.
"Masato? Where are we going anyway?"
It was late. At least, late for her. She had seen the clock in their room, and usually around this time, she would be asleep. But here she was, following him down the hall, and it looks like they were going out somewhere.
"We're leaving. And we're not coming back."
"Eh? But Masato...it's late. Saeko needs to sleep."
"The hell are you talking about? You just woke up."
"Saeko needs 8 hours though."
"Tch. You can sleep as long as you want when we're done."
He had a point. Whatever he needed to take care of, couldn't take that long, could it? Still, being out past her bed time felt weird. Like she was doing something she wasn't supposed to, even though she was the one who chose to sleep around this time. And if they weren't coming back to the hotel later, then where were they going to sleep? She didn't ask, he was already riled up. That would at least help keep her busy enough from falling asleep.
When they got down to the lobby, the receptionist at the counter flinched, when he had seen them. Masato walked up to the counter, and said a few words to the other man. She had gone and looked elsewhere, paying no mind to what he was saying. It was a private conversation after all.
Though whatever they were talking about, he sounded pretty angry. Which reminded her, how was Haruto-kun doing? He called a couple of times after their conversation, but she hadn't answered. Then Masato had gotten fed up, and just blocked the calls. Maybe if they passed by the hotel, she could stop by.
"Come on."
Oh. Looks like he was done talking. He waved at her to follow him, before leaving the hotel. Although she didn't think he would actually leave without her, she didn't want to keep him waiting, after one final wave to the receptionist. He seemed a bit more relaxed after Masato left.
"So where are we going now?"
"We're going to find someone."
"Then can Saeko visit her friend after?"
He didn't answer her right away. It took another moment or so, before he shrugged.
"The one who kept calling? If he'll be awake."
That was all he needed to say. If she could see Haruto again before her recovery, it'll be worth staying up past her bedtime. Masato led her around the village, where during the night, most of the stores were closed. Even so, she was still interested in looking inside the glass windows.
She had only been in the village for a day or two, before the incident happened. So there were still plenty of sights she hadn't yet seen. It was the bars and night clubs that they actually went into, and would be open for awhile. The former had some places she wasn't comfortable going into.
These places were old, and the people that hung around didn't look really friendly. She had to actually fly and wait ontop of a roof until he had finished. While the latter, had more pleasant visits. It wasn't unusual seeing some high schoolers here, and they were clearly having fun.
But whether it was a bar or a club they had gone to, they hadn't stayed there for long. This person they were looking for, must have liked partying and drinking, if they were visiting so many bars and clubs. Occasionally, he would also look at apartments, only to frown a moment later.
Things didn't seem to be going well for him. She could tell he was getting all tensed. After leaving yet another bar without the person they were looking for, he was already starting to head down another street. However, she had stopped him dead in his tracks, by doing something he didn't expect.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Masato...maybe we should take a little break?"
She was carefully rubbing his shoulders, trying to get him to relax. Haruto-kun always liked it when she did this, ever since the first time he had gotten anxious about some test. The same seemed to be happening to Masato. Although it was kinda hard since he was so tall.
They stayed like this for a couple of minutes, before she had stopped. Her hands were starting to get tired. He turned back to face her after, his face red, and his arms crossed. Haruto had done the same thing. Was this one of those guy things? She wasn't sure, but she was glad he wasn't tensed anymore.
"Fine. We'll stop and go visit your friend."
"Really? Thank you!"
Now it was her turn to lead him around. She had gone off down the street he had been heading towards, and looked around. Although she had only explored the twice, not counting this, she was sure she could locate the hotel her friend was staying at, if she had actually tried.
The way she had learned to remember most things, was assigning some kind of image in her head, to the place in question. This hotel they were now looking for, was located near this billboard, and a couple of stores. The billboard was advertising some Capsule Corp item, while the stores had these cute clothes.
If her memory was right, she just had to go down this street. Turn around this corner. And then go here. She had finally stop on one street, with the hotel she was looking for, being right across. It was much fancier than the one Masato had checked them into, and what probably made him stop frowning when he had caught up to her. Haruto's parents were lucky they were friends with people who could book them a place like this.
"This is the place your friend is staying at?"
After seeing her nod, he had pulled out his phone, before handing it to her a moment or so later. She was amazed. How did he know she was going to ask him for his phone? Her eyes turned down to the object, where she went and typed down Haruto's number, after unblocking it. Unlike what happened before when she had first called, it took a couple of more rings before it was answered. He must have been sleeping.
"Saeko? Ive tried to call you like three times after you hung up."
"Saeko wanted to make sure Haruto-kun calmed down."
He really had been sleeping. She could hear it in his voice, and what sounded like a yawn from the other end.
"I told you it's Haru. And I am, but don't hang up yet."
"Saeko won't."
She was smiling now. He had corrected his name this time. It was weird not hearing him do it before.
"Who are you with right now? I want to talk to them."
"How did you know Saeko was with someone?"
"You didn't buy a new phone did you?"
"No."
"That's how."
Right. She had forgot about that. Her eyes turned back to Masato, who had been listening in on the conversation the whole time. After handing it to him, he took the phone from her, and started talking to Haruto. She still couldn't really bring herself to listen in on someone else's conversation.
So while they were talking, she had went and looked somewhere else. Now that her friend wasn't mad at her anymore, she could focus on following Masato along, until she was well enough to fight for her freedom. It had been a long night, and she was ready to go to sleep.
When Masato had turned back around with a grin on his face, he found that's exactly what she had did. Gravity was causing her head to fall, and reflex brought it back up again. All of this while she was standing too.
"Yeah, she fell asleep."
It turns out, the man had taken her back into the village, and checked themselves into some hotel. The place wasn't as nice as the one she had been staying at with Haruto-kun and his family, but it wasn't run-down either. There just wasn't anything special about the place.
