Komatsu had many things to do before his fight with this unknown captain. First and foremost, he needed to make sure that his grandmother was alright, he needed to see how these apprentices of hers were actually doing with their repairs.
However, instead of heading to the hospital right away, Komatsu made a detour to Kyuri’s room. If he had learned anything from his grandmother was that you never left your real research readily available to be found. So there was no way he’d find anything in her lab. No it had to be here somewhere.
He started flipping her room inside out, lifting the mattresses, looking behind paintings and pictures, going through her dressers and closet however, he didn’t find anything. He would huff as he sat back on the messy bed and brought his hand up to his chin. It had to be here… but the places he looked were too obvious right? If anyone was actually looking for it after disabling her… then she had to make it extremely hard for them to find.
As he thought over all the possible places he could think of, Komatsu spotted one of the pictures he had looked over earlier. It was a family picture taken when Komatsu was about 6 years old. His parent’s were in the picture with Nasu standing next to their father and Tomo leaning over to hug little Koma and forcing him to look at the camera. He smiled softly as he looked at the picture, his fingers tracing the images of his parents before it stopped on his dad.
“Didn’t dad wear the alliance logo on the left?”
He whispered softly as he opened the frame and took out the picture. He looked behind it to see if anything was there, but there was nothing. There was no way his mind was playing tricks on him… the Alliance symbol was always emblazoned on the left.
His eyes narrowed on the picture as he stood back up and walked out of Kyuri’s room, leaving it looking like a ridiculous mess. He didn’t care though, his grandmother was more important than a little mess! He was quick to run out of the house with the picture in hand. Once he was outside he would take to the skies of planet Natto and fly towards his grand mothers research facility.
It took him only a few minutes to reach it and he flew directly through the front doors and passed the guard that was standing there, looking bewildered as the kid by passed him all together. He didn’t even have time to tell him to stop. Komatsu was already inside, running through the hallways like a bat outta hell. He passed several researchers who only stuck to the sides of the walls to let this little red blurr run passed them.
The only time Komatsu reached some resistance was when he reached the door to his grandmother’s personal research lab. The door was sealed shut and it looked like it needed her codes to get in. He cursed loudly as he started entering several old codes she had used. None of them seemed to work!
“Damn it… come on! You couldn’t have made it this damned hard… Think Koma!”
He spoke to himself as he stood staring at the lock, his hand hovering over the buttons. His frustration quickly grew however as none of the codes he could think of would work.
“You’re really fast kid, but this is the end of the line. Who are you and what are you doing here! This area is strictly off limits to everyone but personnel!”
A saiyan male in his mid 20’s finally appeared behind Komatsu, blocking his way back out. The male was huge! bulked out to the nine! Strangely enough though he wasn’t wearing any armour, instead he looked pretty casual wearing a muscle shirt along with a slack pait of pants and strange boots. However if he would ever turn around you would see Kyuri’s lab’s logo emblazoned on the back of his shirt.
“Shut it old man. I need to get into her lab if anyone’s going to reactivate her.”
Komatsu stated as he lifted the family picture so that the saiyan man could see it.
The man looked at the picture with a raised eyebrow. He would instantly recognize Tomoroko and Natto, as well as their new Overseer, but the second child in that picture hadn’t been seen in years. That’s when the man looked back to the kid holding up the picture and a surprised expression crossed his face.
“Really? You’re little Komatsu?”
He said as the surprise was was clear on his face. The more he looked at the kid though, the more he could see the resemblance to the kid in the picture. Obviously he had aged but he doubted he’d ever see the Overseer’s youngest ever again. Well, the previous Overseers.
“Yeah, I am! Now can you open this door or not? It’s important.”
komatsu said a little more relaxed now that it looked like the man wasn’t going to try and arrest him or anything. The man gave a short nod as he walked over to the keypad, putting in his own code and the doors slid open with a hiss of air.
“You find something? Her student’s have had no luck reactivating her, it’s been one hell of a job to figure out.”
He stated only to earn a nod from Komatsu who darted inside. Man, his grandmother was a slob! There were all sorts of parts lying across the floor, a flurry of papers all over the place almost making it look like someone had raided her lab. Though, he remembered that she had always been this way, especially when on the edge of a breakthrough.
He levitated off of the ground so that he wouldn’t trip over anything and flew over to the central computer his grandmother had installed there many years ago. He searched for some sort of scanner, and as soon as he found it, he put the picture onto it and closed it.
It took several minutes for the computer to analyze the picture but, as soon as it was done, several pages of code and schematics appeared on the screen, causing Komatsu to grin widely as he laughed.
“Wow, you managed to fit this much data in a photograph! Go grandma!”
He said excitedly as he turned back to the saiyan man who continued to look surprised by the child.
“Well, don’t just stand there! Can you go and get her? Bring her in here, there’s no reason she should stay in the hospital anymore right?”
He said, shooing the man away with one hand as he looked over the information on the screen. Most of the data looked like gibberish, he didn’t understand it as he read it, but subconsciously, his mind was slowly putting things together.
It took about an hour for the saiyan man to return with Kyuri in tow. The saiyaness was still lying on a hospital stretcher unconscious. The whole in her chest had been repaired though and all that remained was to fix the internal hardware and to reactivate her. Behind them, two of her students came walking in, both of them were female, and one of them obviously a hybrid as her skin was a deep green colour, her hair was a lighter green and her tail matched that. Komatsu couldn’t help but frown as she reminded him of the blue hybrid bastard.
“We’re here to help too little Koma, you found her schematics?”
The pure saiyaness stated and Komatsu glared at her, huffing before he spoke.
“Don’t call me that, actually, it’s Captain Komatsu now. So Captain, or Komatsu.”
He corrected causing the girl to recoil slightly for fear that this kid was just like his older brother. This caused Komatsu to sigh as he turned to the data on the computer.
“Yes, I found her schematics. Do you two mind getting these tools ready?”
He said as he pointed up to the list on the screen. The girls nodded before they went about the room gathering the supplies listed above.
Meanwhile, Komatsu moved over to his grandmothers stretcher and looked into her closed eyes with a sad expression on his face. They could repair her right..? He was starting to have doubts as he looked at her, afraid that he would lose her too. However, as the two girls came back over with the equipment in hand, they started to look over the schematics and began to open up Kyuri’s chest piece to begin work.
“Man she’s really made this complicated…”
The hybrid muttered as she would look from the schematic back down to the mechanical system in Kyrui’s body.
Something clicked within Komatsu as he watched them attempt to follow the schematics. He stepped forward as he glanced inside of her chest cavity and to him, it seemed like the areas that needed to be fixed were glowing. He would slowly, subconsciously take over, pushing the other two girls away from the area as he worked on Kyuri silently.
It was almost as if the blueprints had been imprinted on him as he read them. Everything seemed so easy, so straightforward, as if he and been practicing this his whole life. The two girls would watch him work in awe, surprised that the kid even knew what he was doing. They would cross check what he was doing with the schematics and found that he was doing everything correctly, something that would have taken them much longer to figure out.
It took about 3 hours of constant tinkering, opening up this panel and that one to fix all of the damaged systems in her body. However, when he finally closed her up he looked back to the schematics to find out how to activate her and his face went a very deep red.
“Right… well… I’ll let you guys do that.”
Komatsu said as he finally stepped away from the stretcher, moving his hand up to his head as he tried to figure out just how it was he knew what to do.
The saiyaness laughed as she saw the activation key and Komatsu’s reaction to it. She stepped towards Kyuri and began following the sequence indicated on the screen. It didn’t take long to work, as Kyuri suddenly gasped for air, sitting straight up with a confused look on her face.
She would look at her two apprentices with a raised eyebrow. Had they really been able to repair her? Had they been the one’s to figure it out? She had gone through great lengths to protect that data. However, her eyes then landed on the spikey mess of hair that was currently turned away from her.
“Koma?”
She said lowly, and Komatsu turned around to face her finally. His blush disappeared and his face lit up as he looked at his grandmother. There was a silence between the two that lasted only a moment before Kyuri pushed herself off of the stretcher as she tried to dart towards Komatsu. Just then, Komatsu darted towards her too. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and Kyuri did the same, petting his hair as she hugged her grandson tightly.
“Where the hell have you been Komatsu! I thought that you died… Oh it doesn’t matter, you’re home now.”
She said as she looked down to the boy who had hid his face against her. She could only assume that the boy was crying as he wasn’t saying anything, but when Komatsu pulled his face away from her, his eyes were… somewhat dry.
Komatsu had fought hard not to let himself cry, the only indication that he might was the watery look to his eyes as he looked at her. Even as he worked on his grandmother, he had been so scared that she would die…
“Yeah, I’m home… grandma… I don’t know how I knew what to do… but your schematics were so easy…”
Komatsu stated as they both pulled out of the hug, bright smiles on both of their faces. Kyuri chuckled at his comment as she reached forward, her hand touching his right ear. Something felt oddly strange as she did that, and when Kyuri pulled her hand away, he could just barely make out the tiny spec that was in her hand.
“A nanobot, I programmed it with all the data of my body. It’s meant to analyze the damage and teach it’s host the skills needed to fix any abnormalities. You must of pulled your family picture from my room right? It was hiding on the Alliance emblem.”
She stated with a smirk. Komatsu on the other hand huffed. He had a tiny robot in his brain telling him how to do those things? The last time he had anything like that in his body he forcefully cut it out using a broken part of a spacepod. Thankfully he didn’t know about it sooner or he may have tried to cut it out of his own head.
“That’s… really cool grandma… but please don’t but any more robots in my head. I don’t want to start cutting things out of me again.”
He stated, and Kyuri’s eyes shifted to the scar on his neck. She reached up to trace it gently, causing Komatsu to look away from her as if he was ashamed of it.
“Sorry kiddo. I won’t do that again. Promise. but don’t you be ashamed of this. Every scar on a saiyan’s body tells a story. Looks like yours has a pretty big one to tell. Come on, let’s go home and you can tell me all about it alright?”
She asked him and Komatsu nodded gently. With that, both of them started to walk outside of the lab, leaving behind the two forgotten students who opted to clean their teachers lab while she left to recover.
