CAPITAINS LOG NUMBER 0002.
This will be the first of a series of registers about the events that led the great me up until now. I shall leave these past events registered on this diary log for future generations to inspire themselves. So, let me start from where it all began, 44 years ago, when I was only a young (19 years old) Bas with a dream.
The day I went to the local army joint the sky was clear, as if the heavens were happy for the events that were happening. With my backpack fully packed with all the essentials, I headed inside the building. The army joint back at my home planet was only a medium sized installation. From the front, you would be faced with a 3 store high blue and purple building that compensated its low height with its length.
It was recruitment day, and the place was packing with youngsters such as myself going inside either by their own will or because of the forced draft imposed on all races after a certain age. In my case, it was completely voluntary. I couldn't wait to make a name for myself and earn the respect and fear of those who dared to ridicule me, but that is a story for another day.
"What a day. What a fine day!", I said standing in front of the building. After saying that I felt as if there was something missing on that phrase. Like I should have said it differently, maybe used lovely. Whatever, it’s not as if it's a famous quote. Anyway, holding firmly on my backpack I went inside only to face my first challenge in the army. The line. There were so many recruitees in the place that it took roughly 2 hours until it was finally my turn. Just as I went inside, I was put through a series of exams. Most of them were okay, but the one where I had to keep running on a treadmill for 10 minutes was exhausting. I almost puked at the doctor back then.
Sometime after all of the exams came the results. As an exemplary member of my race, I was ready to be drafted at a high position, but to my surprise, the result showed foot soldier. The whole world went blank for a second at that moment. Foot soldier? FOOT SOLDIER?! They had to be kidding me! Those incompetent buffoons couldn't see the raw gemstone they had in their hands! The following events are still a bit fuzzy in my mind, probably due to all the adrenaline that rushed me, but I can vaguely remember arguing with the doctors, then throwing stuff at them with my psychic powers, then all I remember is that I felt something tingling in my body and passed out. I probably just set loose some electricity cable and didn't notice it due to my rage back then. I definitely wasn't stunned by the security. Definitely!
So, after some time, I woke up in a cell. It was understandable, even great beings are capable of making mistakes and I now accept that I may had overreacted a bit when I said I was going to kill the doctor by strangling him with his own intestines. Anyway, now I was in prison for my blunder and it hit me that my current situation was a direct result of my actions. As such I made what any sane person would do, I wrote the name of the doctor so that I could fulfill my promise when no one was watching.
As I finished writing the name on my arm I noticed that I wasn’t alone in the cell. Sitting on the corner was an Apule, his pale blue skin contrasting against the grey wall. The guy was immobile, staring straight at me with those white reptile eyes. He had this hungry expression, as if he was looking at a possible meal. At that point I felt that he would jump at me at any second, trying to take my life in order to satiate his hunger.
Those few seconds felt like days, months. Both of us staring at each other, just waiting for a signal, a chance to attack. After what felt like an eternity it came, a loud noise followed by the movement of his mouse. The noise took me by surprise, setting my mind in a confused state. At that moment, the noise that I heard, I was certain. That was a snore.
The guy was actually sleeping. How the hell could he sleep with his eyes open and while making that expression??? Almost gave me a heart attack! As weird as it was, he was definitely sleeping in the corner of the cell. Just as I was thinking what to do he starts waking up. “Uuwaah. That was a nice nap!”, he said while stretching himself. As he woke up he noticed my presence and came saying that it was nice to have some company at the cell.
The guy was a weirdo, and nearly gave me a heart attack, but was actually kind of nice. We had nothing to do at that place, so most of the time was spent chatting. His name was Flam and he joined the army two months ago. He was caught trying to leave last night without authorization and was sent to jail for a day. He wouldn’t say why he tried to leave, simply stating that it was important.
On the next day both of us were set free and when I say that I mean that we were put with the other newbies on our way to boot camp. The camp was a 3 hour march under the scorching sun. It would be fine if the planet didn’t have two freaking suns! When we finally got to our destination, I was having a severe case of dehydration but that was soon solved when the instructor put us through the training course, and that included some water related exercises, like trying not to drown in rapid waters or having to craw on the mud. At least the mud was good for my skin. What? I need to take care of my appearance.
That night all the trainees were exhausted and most simply passed out as soon as we got to bed. I stayed awoke until everyone else was sleeping. I didn’t want no one knowing what I was going to do. Unfortunately what I didn’t notice was that Flam was still awake and saw everything that I did at that moment.
Oh crap the space for the log is ending. I better leave the rest of the story for the next log.
