CAPTAIN'S LOG NUMBER 0004.
It’s another boring day in the space. Last time we had some exciting events and ended up getting even more recruits. The squadron is finally at a decent size, but let’s not stick to that, after all that is recorded in the previous log. Instead, I think it’s time to continue my story from when I joined the army.
As I stated before, after a long day of arduous training, the instructor finally let us rest. It was already getting pretty late and we had but a few time to organize our stuff before going to bed. Just like every other recruitee there, I unpacked my bag in the few drawers available for each person, leaving some stuff in the bag.
As the darkness took over the dormitory I proceeded to rummage through the rest of my bag. There stood my most precious possession. My dear sweet Konnani.

As the darkness took over the dormitory I proceeded to rummage through the rest of my bag. There stood my most precious possession. My dear sweet Konnani.
It was a shame that I could only bring one of them, but the risk of them getting damaged was far too high. Even so, I couldn’t even think of going through the rash training without my little Konnani-chan to cheer me up.
- I’m sorry Konnani-chan, but you’ll have to stay hidden in there for a while. But don’t you worry. Daddy will come visit you again tomorrow.
Hiding my precious figurine inside my bag, I went to sleep. Now that my batteries were recharged I could easily face another day of training, but what I didn’t notice back then was that I wasn’t the only one still awake.
The following day started as early as you can imagine. Neither of the two suns had risen when we were forced to get up and start the drill. Just like the previous day, the training was rigorous and, as were to be expected, full of demeaning comments made by our instructor. When the interval for lunch finally came I took the chance to slip by the dormitories and check if my stuff were all right, but what I saw took me by surprise.
As I opened my bag the first thing I saw was Konnani-chan. I was sure that when I put her back last night I took the precaution of storing her inside a small wooden box under some clothes. Even so there she was, right on top of everything. And, as if to confirm my suspicions, there was a piece of paper right under her. The short message was enough to send chills down my spine as I read it. “You should watch your surroundings better. If you don’t want your precious girl being endangered go behind the mess hall after lights out and bring her with you.”
Someone saw me last night! And what’s worse, they are threatening my poor Konnani-chan! The fact that she’s not where I left her just means that they can get to her anytime! I have to protect her, no matter what!
The rest of the day went by like a blur. I couldn’t focus my mind on anything else but Konnani-chan’s safety. Somehow, I had to put down whoever wrote that letter. I would teach them that no one mess with Odrog’s girls and what happens to those who dare to do so!
Just as the letter specified, I waited until lights out. After I was sure everyone else was sleeping, I took Konnani-chan, put her in the wooden box and proceeded to leave the dormitories as stealthy as possible. Getting from the dormitories to the back of the mess hall wasn’t as hard as I imagined it would be. Maybe this was all part of the trap, leading the target into a false sense of security before shooting him down. Be that as is may, I had no choice but to march forward. My girl was at risk and I would do anything to guarantee her safety.
The back of the mess hall was covered in darkness. The lights from the front didn’t reach out to the small corridor used to discard the thrash. As I reached my destination, I saw the one responsible for our night meeting. Ahead of me stood Flam, the shadows covering his stern expression. The man I thought to be a friend was revealing himself as the one big menace.
- Flam! It was you! How could you! I thought you were my friend!
I was ready to charge straight at him. The safety of Konnani-chan depended on my actions! Just as I was about to jump on him I noticed another person behind me. “So this is the one”, said the voice behind me as it’s owner slowly approached. I turned my head back cautiously to see who this new enemy was, but what I saw shocked me even more. On my side now stood our instructor, sergeant Pesto.
Sergeant Pesto was a large spikerian with purple skin. The man was in the army for more than two decades and was responsible for training the recruitees for at least 7 years. Before going to the army I researched about him and learned that he was renowned for being extremely harsh with those who lack discipline, but exceled in forming great soldiers who would follow any orders to the letter.
Now that man was on my side threatening Konnani-chan. I had to do something, but if I did anything to him, my career in the army would vanish. How could I escape this predicament? Was there any way to save Konnani-chan and my future career? My head was rushing through as many scenarios as I could when Pesto faced me. His actions at that moment made my mind blow.
In front of me stood sergeant Pesto, he removed his blazer revealing the shocking truth.

Under the military uniform was a Hatsune Miku shirt! The sight of Hatsune-chan covering the sergeant’s torso was so mindboggling that it left me speechless. It was only when Flam started talking that everything started to make sense. “It seems you understood something wrong my friend. I called you here because I was concerned about you and your lady”, in his hands now I could see that he was holding a figurine encased in a glass case.
“The army is not a safe place for our little friends here my man. That’s why we need to stick together”, said Pesto. What at first seemed like a threat now turned into one incredible opportunity.
Wow, look at the size of this log! Better continue another time.
